EARL F. BENNETT

Walden, N.Y. - Earl F. Bennett, of Walden, a retired conductor for the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad and a lifelong resident of the area, died Sunday, April 6, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital, Newburgh. He was 81. The son of Edward and Maude LaForge Bennett, she was born April 13, 1921 in New Paltz, N.Y. He was a member of the Wallkill Masonic Lodge #627, Walden, a life member of the Wallkill Rod and Gun Club, Wallkill, N.Y., member of the New Paltz Elks Lodge #2568, a member of the Maybrook Railroad Historical Society, the Ulster County Chapter AARP #975, the Walden Senior Citizens, a life member of the United Transportation Union and an Honorary member of the VFW Post #2946, Walden. He was the husband of Shirley Beardsley Bennett. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Bennett at home; two sons, Earl E. Bennett and his wife, Sally, of Catskill, N.Y., David S. Bennett and his wife, Seanna, of Davenport, Fla.; two daughters, Donna J. Rouillier of Inglis, Fla., Kathleen T. Thomas and her husband, LaMont, of Gardiner; four stepsons, Jack Weller of Walden, Jeffrey Weller of Denton, N.C., Jay Weller of Montgomery and Lynn Weller of Warwick; one stepdaughter, Laurie Gesso of Montgomery; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Trine Bennett, a daughter, Elaine Bennett and a grandson, Kevin Pryor. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 10, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Masonic services will be held on Wednesday evening, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Wallkill Valley cemetery, Walden. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. CAROLINE LATINO

Whitehall, N.Y. - Mrs. Caroline Latino, of Whitehall, and St. Petersburg, Florida, died Monday, April 7, 2003 at Hudson Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Highland, N.Y. on her 103rd Birthday. The daughter of Gerardo and Guiseppa Beraducci Voccia, she was born April 7, 1900 in Fondi, Italy. She was married to Constantino Latino on July 11, 1920 in Whitehall, N.Y., but was pre-deceased by him in March 1968. She was employed at Silk Mill and Coat Factory in Whitehall, N.Y. before retiring. Caroline was a member of St. Mary's Choir, St. Petersburg, Florida and Sunshine Committee in St. Petersburg, Florida. In 1995 she received St. Mary's Parish Award for Outstanding Parishioner and City of St. Petersburg Award for Dedicated Service to the Community. She was also a member of Our Lady of Angels, Whitehall, N.Y. Survivors include one daughter, Minnie Mylott of Buffalo, N.Y.; two daugters-in-law, Eloise Latino of Oneida, N.Y., Louise Latino of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; grandchildren, Paul Latino of Wappingers Falls, John Latino of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Mary Latino of Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y., Kathy Latino of Nyack, N.Y., Joseph Mylotte of Buffalo, N.Y., Gary Mylott of Leeds, N.Y., Virginia Drake of Oneida, N.Y., Janet Passineau of New Milford, Conn., Judy Paluck of Oneida, N.Y., Robert Latino of Northport, N.Y.; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her two sons, Joseph and Ralph Latino. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9 at Jillison Funeral Home, Inc., 46 Williams St., Whitehall. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 10 at Our Lady of Hope Church, Skene St., Whitehall, with Fr. David LeFort officiating. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels cemetery, Whitehall at a later date. Local arrangements under the direction of Straub Funeral Home, Inc., Wappingers Falls.

MILDRED MATHIS

Monticello, N.Y. - Mildred Mathis, of Monticello, a homemaker, died Thursday, April 3, 2003 at the Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla. She was 63. The daughter of Lee Postell Lawrence and the late Richard Lawrence, she was born March 16, 1940 in Wilmington, N.C. Mildred was the oldest of nine children and was an avid bingo player. She attended PS68 in Manhattan and relocated to Monticello, N.Y. where she attended the Monticello Central School District. She was also a presser for Ellery's Dry Cleaners for over 10 years. A family statement reads, "Mildred was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister and a friend to many. She will be deeply missed by all." She leaves to mourn, her mother, Lee Lawrence of Monticello; her children, Veronica Jones, Christina Samuels, Steven Lawrence and his wife, Gloria, Robert Mathis Jr. and his wife, Cindy, Ramona Mathis and her companion, Collins, all of Monticello, Harry Mathis and his wife, Kim, of Damascus, Md.; her former husband, Robert Mathis of Sanford, Florida. She also leaves to cherish her memory her four sisters, Joyce Baker and her husband, James, of Stockton, Ala, Doris Lawrence of San Carlos, Calif., Ann Young and her husband, Eric, Semmie Johnson and her husband, James, all of Monticello; her brothers, Harry Lawrence and Otha Lawrence, both of Monticello; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 24 nieces and nephews; host of cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Shirley Ann Lawrence; a sister, Naomi; and a brother, Richard. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenney, Inc. Funeral Home, 195 Broadway, Monticello. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 10 at 1 p.m. at the Bethlehem Temple Church, Fairground Rd. Monticello, with the Rev. JOHN J. BARKLEY

Ogdensburg, N.Y. - John J. Barkley, a retired Security Hospital Treatment Assistant at the Mid Hudson Psych Center, and resident of Ogdensburg, died Thursday, April 4, 2003 at the Claxton Hepburn Medical Center. He was 66. The son of Murray and Pearl (Brontmire) Barkley, he was born on March 11, 1937 in Ogdensburg. He attended Lisbon High School for his education. He was married to Carol McGillituddy on August 19, 1967. John worked on his parents' farm early in his working career, then at the Lisbon Carigers Feed Store. During the 1950s he worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway, and construction work in the Orange County area before taking his position at the Mid Hudson Psych Center. He was a member of the Masons, the Port Jervis Elks and Moose Lodges, the Orange County Trappers Association, the NYS Trappers Association, The National Rifle Association, and Ducks Unlimited. He was an avid hunter and trapper who showed his accomplishments by displaying his prized trophies around his home. Survivors include his wife, Carole; his three sons, John Barkley and his wife, Valerie of Eagle River, Alaska, Stephen Barkley of Ogdensburg, Bruce Barkley of Texas; four daughters, Rebecca Martin of Ogdensburg, Mrs. Tony (Dorothy) McArthy of Watsonville, Calf., Lisa Matthews of San Antonio, Texas, Mrs. Vincent (Suzanne) Galligan of Cuddebackville; his stepdaughter, Mrs.Michael (Mary Helen) Bero of Massena; his two sisters, Mrs. Harold (Margaret) Morfred of Bloomingdale, Mrs. Carl (Betty) Morfred of Tuscon, Ariz.; along with several grandchildren; great grandchildren; step-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his two brothers, William and Lawrence Barkley; and his sister, Kathleen Farrell. There will be no public visitation. Graveside services will be held at the Sunnyside cemetery in Morristown with the Msgr. Harry K. Snow officiating at a time to be announced later. Memorial donations may be made in his name to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are with the Fox-McLellan Funeral Home.

MARYANN NEELY KILBRIDE

Liberty, N.Y. - MaryAnn Neely Kilbride, a longtime area resident and a homemaker, died Saturday, May 31, 2003 at her residence in Liberty after a long illness. She was 61. The daughter of the late Ira Franklin Switzer and Mary Gladdin Dempsy, she was born on August 19, 1941 in Summer Lee, W.Va. Survivors include a daughter, RoseAnna Neeley Hicks of Bradley, W.Va. She was predeceased by her husband, Ennis Kilbride in 2002. Funeral services will be held at Ramsay's Funeral Home, 275 South Main Street, Liberty on Wednesday, June 4 at 11 a.m. The Revs. David McCarthy, Harry Watson, and Kenneth Ford will officiate. Mrs. Kilbride will be buried next to her husband in West Virginia National cemetery in Grafton, W.Va. Funeral arrangements are by Ramsay's Funeral Homes, Inc., Liberty.

NIE'SA ROSE DENDY

Killeen, Texas - Nie'sa Rose Dendy was born and passed away Monday, May 26, 2003 at Darnell Army Hospital in Killeen, Texas. The daughter of Jason Thomas Dendy III and Jean Rose McCarthy Dendy, other survivors include her brother, Michael McCarthy of Killeen, Texas; paternal grandparents, Jason Thomas Dendy Jr and his wife, Marcelina, of Walden, Connie Riley of Wilson, N.C.; maternal grandparents, John McCarthy of New Windsor, Diana McKnight of Scotchtown; other playmates would be her uncles, Jeffrey Dendy of Walden, Paul Lopez of San Juan, Puerto Rico; aunts, Dashaunda Dendy of Wilson, N.C., Melanie McCarthy of San Antonio, Texas; and other loved ones. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3 in the Calvary cemetery, Routes 94 and 9W, New Windsor. Minister Robert Stoudemire will officiate. DEZSO SZECSI

Swan Lake, N.Y. - Dezso Szecsi of Swan Lake, a retired machinist and a 15-year area resident, died Friday, May 30, 2003 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center at Harris. He was 62. The son of the late Ferenc and Erzsebet Kulya Szecsi, he was born on February 12, 1941 in Hungary. Dezso had been a blacksmith in Hungary, and had retired as a machinist with Sound Coat Corp. on Long Island. Survivors include a nephew, Ferenc Szecsi and his wife of Minnetonka, Minn.; four brothers; two sisters; and several nieces and nephews in Hungary. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, June 4 at 4 p.m. in the Harris Funeral Home, West Street, at Buckley, Liberty. Monsignor William Collins will officiate. Burial will be in Hungary. CAROL ANN MAELIA DELANEY

Mesa, Ariz. - Carol Ann Maelia Delaney, a homemaker, formerly of Middletown, died Friday, May 30, 2003 at home. She was 48. The daughter of William O. Maelia and Mary Henning Maelia, she was born on October 21, 1954 in Brooklyn. She was a resident of Mesa, Ariz. for the last 11 years, living in Middletown previously. Survivors include her husband, John Delaney at home; a brother, William T. Maelia and sister-in-law, Lynn, of Middletown; a sister, Maureen M. Kane and brother-in-law, James, of Middletown; three nephews, William, Thomas, Devin; one niece, Bridget; several aunts; uncles; and cousins. HENRY LAMPACK

Newburgh, N.Y. - Henry Lampack, the retired owner of Lampack's Store and Gas Station on Broadway and Mill Street in Newburgh, and a resident of Newburgh, entered into rest on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at Hudson Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Highland. He was 86. The son of the late Abraham and Pauline Ginzberg Lampack, he was born on August 8, 1916 in Newburgh. He was a member of Congregation Agudas Israel. Survivors include his devoted wife of many years, Marie; three daughters, Arlene Marie Jacewsky of Newton Square, Pa., Lily Bartels of Schenectady, Star Davison of Vista, Calif.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Mickey; sister-in-law, Evelyn Lampack of Newburgh; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 4 at 3 p.m. at Agudas Israel cemetery, New Windsor, Cantor Stamler officiating. Burial will be in Agudas Israel cemetery, New Windsor. MARGUERITE MAY EDWARDS

Newburgh, N.Y. - Marguerite May Edwards, a retired machinist for Western Publishing Company in Poughkeepsie, and a resident of Newburgh, died Saturday, May 31, 2003 at Newburgh Campus of St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital. She was 73. The daughter of the late Clarence West Sr. and Anna Campbell West, she was born on March 3, 1930 in Poughkeepsie. She was married to the late Edward B. Edwards; he preceded her in death on August 28, 1989. Survivors include a granddaughter, Marguerite McNeil and her husband, Joshua, of Newburgh; sister Ruth Jones and her husband, David, of Poughkeepsie; four great-grandchildren, Rosalyn Lewis, Karizma McNeil, Tayvon English, Havauntay English; several nieces; nephews; other relatives; and friends. She was predeceased by her daughter, Rosalyn Ann Hayes. There will be no visitation. There will be no services. Cremation was at the convenience of the family. Hackensack, N.J. - Charles D. "Good Time Charlie" Sylvestri passed away on Friday, May 30, 2003. He was 49. "He was at his happiest with family and friends around him and in his home. Respected and loved by many." The adored husband of Linda (nee) Jashembowski Sylvestri; beloved son to Carmela Sylvestri and the late Augie Sylvestri; loving father to Christina Provenzano and son-in-law, Carmelo Provenzano, of Paramus, N.J., and Jesse Sylvestri of Teterboro, N.J.; devoted brother to James Sylvestri of South Hackensack, N.J., and Michael Sylvestri of River Vale, N.J.; adored grandfather to Tianna and Bianca; also survived by in-laws, John and Ceclia Jashembowski of Middletown; cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews. MICHAEL JOHN KWINN III

Monroe, N.Y. - Michael John Kwinn III of Monroe passed away Saturday morning, May 31, 2003, of complications related to his fight against a brain stem tumor. Michael was 14 years old, and in the 8th grade at Monroe Woodbury Middle School, where he attended since his family moved from Texas two years ago. Michael was an academically gifted child who always made the A honor roll, and he also excelled in football and basketball. Michael waged a 14 month long fight against the malignant brain tumor. A significant part of his fight was his efforts to raise money for The Brain Tumor Society. For the past two years, he raised money and then presented the donations at the Cassidy and Pinkard 5 K Run/Walk in Washington, D.C. For this year's run, which was held May 4th, Michael presented a check for $50, 002.11. Michael is survived by his father, Michael Jr.; his mother, Brigitte; and sister, Cheryl. In lieu of flowers or other gestures, please help continue Michael's fight and send donations to The Friends 4 Michael Foundation, c/o Hudson Valley Bank, 21 Scarsdale Road, Yonkers, NY 10707. WILLIAM JOSEPH DENICK

Newburgh, N.Y. - William Joseph Denick, a lifelong resident of the area, a retired construction worker, died Sunday, June 1, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh. He was 75. The son of the late Frank and Dorothy Hudig Denick, he was born on June 17, 1927 in New Windsor. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving in WWII. He attended St. Patrick's School and NFA. He was a former member of the Oblates of Our Lady of Hope. Survivors include his wife, Lucy Claudio Denick at home; one son, William Anthony Denick and his wife, Rene, of Rhinebeck; two daughters, Deborah Masloski and her husband, James, of Newburgh, Carol Sweed of Montgomery; one brother, Frank Denick of Florida; two sisters, Dorothy Dayton and Patricia Lybolt, both of Florida; eight grandchildren, William and Robert Sweed, Rebecca, Kaitlin, and William Denick, and Carol, James, and Joseph Masloski; one great-grandson, Vincent Nicholas; nieces; and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph, Kenneth, and Andrew Denick. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 4 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden. CHARLES NEWELL

Bloomingburg, N.Y. - Charles Newell, a lifelong resident of the area, died Monday, June 2, 2003 at home. HE was 65. The son of the late Frank A. and Ella L. Newell Stabler, Charles was born on February 10, 1938 in Middletown. Charles proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a truck driver for Checke Metal Fabricators in Middletown. He was also a member of the Bloomingburg Fire Department #1, and was currently their president, fire commissioner, fire police captain, and was a past chief as well. Charles enjoyed crafts and craft fairs, was an avid woodworker since 1985, and along with his wife, Jackie, did craft shows. Besides his wife, Jackie, at home; Charles is survived by his mother, Ella L. Newell Stabler of Middletown; three daughters, Jody Muldoon and her husband, Tom, of Spring Glen, Laura Karp and her husband, Gary, of Middletown, and Tammy Newell. His father, Frank A. Newell; stepfather, D. Cain Stabler; and a sister, Jane Louise Newell, predeceased Charles. Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, June 4 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown. A funeral service of remembrance will be held on Thursday, June 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Middletown, with the Rev. William Wolfe officiating. ANNA J. LAMOYA

Parksville, N.Y. - Anna J. Lamoya, a homemaker and 20 year area resident, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, June 1, 2003. She was 80. The daughter of the late William Horacio and Inocencia Nieva, she was born on March 23, 1923 in Puerto Rico. She was a member of St. Peter's Church, Liberty and was the widow of Fernando Lamoya who passed away on March 2, 1989. Survivors include a daughter, Irene Ramirez and her husband, Henry, of Parksville; two brothers, William Horacio of Leighigh Acres, Fla., Armando Horacio of the Bronx; two sisters, Elizabeth Westbrook of California, Lydia Lopez of the Bronx; seven grandchildren, Adam Ramirez, Donna Gil, Glenn Ramirez, Eric Ramirez, Audra Santillo, Tracey Barron, and Venus Nolan; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Linda Nolan. Woodridge, N.Y. - Dorothy Kaplan a co-owner and operator of K-Brand Farms in Woodridge entered into eternal rest on Sunday June 1, 2003 at Orange County Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus. She was 79. Dorothy was the daughter of Harry and Ida Usdan Goodstein, and was born on August 4, 1923 in Yonkers. She was a life member of Hadassah, and member of the Glen Wild women's club, and a member of the Sisterhood of Congregation Anshei Glen Wild. She is survived by her husband, Meyer, at home in Woodridge; her four sons, Robert Kaplan and his wife, Merryl, of Glen Wild, Bruce Kaplan and his wife, Sondra, of Haines City, Fla., Phil Kaplan and his wife, Anne, of Glen Wild, and Karl Kaplan and his wife, Ellen, of Clifton Park; two brothers, David Goodstein of Ellenville, and Morris Goodstein of Los Angles, Calf.; and her 11 grandchildren, Alan Kaplan and his wife, Dawn, Jamie, Edward, and Randi Kaplan, Heather Marin and her husband, Steve, Nicole and Rachel Feller, Heather Margolies and her husband, Alan, Matthew, Joshua Kaplan; and several nieces and nephews. DORIS ROSE CLARK

Middletown, N.Y. - Doris Rose Clark, a retired independent real estate broker, and long time resident of Middletown, died Sunday, June 1, 2003 at St. Teresa's Nursing Home in Middletown. She was 78. The daughter of Anthony Semento and Marian Toone Semento, she was born in Paterson, N.J. on May 4, 1925. She was married to William Elwood Clark, who predeceased her on May 18, 1986. She lived in Mahwah until moving to Middletown in 1961. She was a member of the Senior Citizens of Middletown, and formerly The Town of Wallkill Widow and Widowers. "Doris was very devoted to her family. She helped many people along her journey of life. She was independent many years before women became liberated, and worked hard to create her own lifestyle. Survivors include a son, William A. Clark and his wife, Elaine, of Middletown; a daughter, Marian R. Bloom and her husband, Barton, of Highland Mills; grandchildren, Maria Brennan and her husband, Patrick, Michael J. Cole and his wife, Lori; Craig L. Cole; great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Matthew Cole; devoted, long-time companion, Matthew Giaimo. She was predeceased by her grandson, Frank William Clark. Friends may call at the Cornelius, Dodd, and Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove Street, Middletown, on Friday, June 6 from 10 a.m. to noon, prior to services. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, June 6 at the funeral home, the Reverend Kenneth Wonderland will officiate. Cremation will take place at Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 149 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10016.

DAVID C. SIMMONS JR.

Port Jervis, N.Y. - David C. Simmons Jr., retired plant sup't for the NYS Department of Corrections at Mid-Orange Correctional Facility in Warwick, and a life-long resident of the area, died Monday, June 2, 2003 at St. Joseph's Place in Port Jervis. He was 81. The son of the late David C. Simmons Sr. and Edna Lawson Simmons, he was born on August 23, 1921 in Warwick. He was married to the late Kathryn E. Monahan. He was a member of the Most Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Port Jervis; a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #471, Port Jervis; a member of the Original Board of Directors for the Port Jervis Little League, and also Port Jervis Pop Warner Football; a former member of the Excelsior Engine Company #5, Port Jervis Fire Department. He was a veteran of WII US Army Air Forces, and a member of the 509th Experimental Group, the parent group of the ENOAL GAY, which was responsible for the dropping of the atomic bomb. He was an avid golfer and member of the Port Jervis Country Club. He was a volunteer marshall at the Augusta National Country Club for the Masters Tournament for over 20 years. He was a technical assistant for the Port Jervis Football team for nearly 40 years. Survivors include four sons, David C. Simmons and his wife, Carol, of Port Jervis, Dennis W. Simmons and his wife, Carla, of Port Jervis, Daniel L. Simmons of Yorktown Heights, Timothy J. Simmons of Port Jervis; one sister, Dorothy Meany of Matamoras, Pa.; five grandchildren, Kimberly Wortman, Tracy-Lynn Drew, Luke Simmons, Ryan and Matthew Simmons; four great-grandchildren, Ashley and Erick Wortman, Jordan and Justin Drew; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Lucretia Heater. Friends may call at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 East Main Street, Port Jervis, on Wednesday, June 4 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 5 at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Port Jervis. The Vigil Wake Service will be held on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Port Jervis. Contributions may be made to The Kathryn E. Simmons Memorial Fund, c/o Orange-Ulster Boces, Gibson Road, Goshen, NY 10924. Funeral arrangements by Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Inc., Port Jervis.
