MARION BARCLAY

Newburgh, N.Y. - Marion Barclay, a retired bookkeeper for Wasserman Optical, died Sunday, November 30, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital. She was 72. Born March 2, 1931 in Ardonia, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Nora Rappleyea Barclay. She was a former member of the Newburgh Camera Club. She is survived by her brothers, George, Burton and Richard Barclay all of the town of Newburgh and Clayton Barclay of Maine; sisters, Jean Fox of Macedon, N.Y. and Frances Dowling of Denver, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday, December 5 from 9 to 11 a.m. at White and Venuto Funeral Home, 188 N. Plank Road, Newburgh. Funeral services will commence at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lee Gangaware officiating. Cremation will take place after the funeral service at Cedar Hill Crematory. Funeral arrangements under the direction of White and Venuto Funeral Home.

EVA H. FOX

Union Springs, N.Y. - Eva H. Fox, 91, of Union Springs, N.Y., died Thursday, November 27, 2003 in Getzville, N.Y. Mrs. Fox was born in Highview, N.Y., the daughter of the late William E. and Anna Lewis Hultslander and has resided in Union Springs, N.Y. since 1954. Surviving are her husband, Earl E. Fox; three sons, John W. Fox and his wife Donna of Albion, N.Y., Rev. Douglas E. Fox, Baltimore, Md., Kenneth E. Fox, Port Angeles, Wash.; two daughters, Janet Siulc and her husband Lawrence of Derby, N.Y., Dorothy Doherty, Boston, Mass.; 15 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Fox was predeceased by her brother Charles E. Hultslander and two sisters Ethel Viering and Anna Belle Bishop; one grandchild Leah Fox. A service was held December 1 in Union Springs. Interment was in Chestnut Hill cemetery, Union Springs. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Memorial Fund of Trinity United Church of Christ, Union Springs, NY 13160.

JENNIE C. DUDEK

Middletown, N.Y. - Jennie C. Dudek, an activities leader for the Orange County Residential Health Care Facility in Goshen and lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at the Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus in Middletown. She was 64. The daughter of Alex Dudek and Veronica Sadecki Dudek, she was born June 25, 1939 in Patterson, N.J. Survivors include her two sisters, Carolyn Chain and husband Gene of Campbell Hall, Patty DeJong and husband Joe of Bullville; seven nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Dudek. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, December 5 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 82 South Church St., Goshen. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 6 at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 71 Murray Ave., Goshen. Interment will be in St. John's cemetery, Goshen. ERNEST LEE DICKENS SR.

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Ernest Lee Dickens Sr., of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., passed away on Monday, December 1, 2003 at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie. He was 68. The son of the late Joe Lee Dickens and Selma Lanchester Dickens, he was born in Whitakers, North Carolina on December 8, 1934. He was married to the former Josephine Newball and was a therapy aide at the Hudson River State Hospital, Poughkeepsie. He is survived by his wife, Josephine N. Dickens, at home; son Ernest Dickens, Jr., Poughkeepsie; daughter, Brenda Smith, Middle Island, New York; one grandchild, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Lanchester; a sister, Mae Frances; and an aunt, Louise Bellamy. Visitation will be on Saturday, December 6 from 9 to 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Rhodes Funeral Home, 59 Montgomery Street, Poughkeepsie, New York. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Donald Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Poughkeepsie Rural cemetery. JOHN ALFRED WHITE

Warwick, N.Y. - John Alfred White, of Warwick, a retired Bus Driver for NJ Transit passed away on December 2, 2003, at St. Anthony Hospital Warwick. He was 74. The son of the late Alfred and Mary Blancato White, he was born November 1, 1929 in Port Chester, NY. Mr. White was member of St. Stephen RC Church Warwick, the American Legion Post No. 214 Warwick and the Lehigh & Hudson Rail Road Retirees. He also was a Navy and Air Force Veteran serving during WWII and the Korean Conflict. A family statement read, "He was loved and will be deeply missed by his family". He is survived by his wife Antoinette (nee Manno) White of Warwick; one daughter Debra Mc Cabe of Easton, MA; and a son Darren David White of San Marcos, CA. Also surviving is his brother Albert White of Hoosick Falls, NY and four grandchildren Gregory, Lauren, Jake, and Mitchell. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, December 5 at the Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. MARY TOWLES

Newburgh, N.Y. - Mary Towles, a homemaker, died Saturday, November 29, 2003 at the Newburgh Campus of St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital. She was 79. The daughter of the late Henry Banks and Fannie Williams Banks, she was born June 11, 1924 in Orange, Va. She was the widow of Herman Towles. She was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church; Senior Choir and Golden Years' Ministry. Survivors include her sons, John Banks and his wife Romaller and Howard Towles all of Baltimore, Md. and Louis Banks Sr. and his wife Ella of Newburgh; daughters, Helen Towles and Doris Edouard and her husband Antoine all of Newburgh; 14 grandchildren, Brenda, Jennie, Marian, Oscar, Harry, Nellie, Louis Jr., Mary, Eugene, Latasha, Antoine III, Jon, Darryl and Ella; and other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by two brothers, Elijah and James Banks; and three sisters, Jennie Willis, Florence Bryant and Ida Denmark. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Thursday, December 4 in the Ebenezer Baptist Church, 76 First Street, Newburgh. The funeral will begin at noon with the pastor, the Reverend George H. JEANETTE J. PONTIER (nee: HOOGENHUIS)

Goshen, N.Y. - Jeanette J. (nee Hoogenhuis), age 81, died Tuesday, December 2, 2003. Net was born in Midland Park, N.J. on June 29, 1922. She lived there and in Wyckoff before moving to Goshen, N.Y. 14 years ago. She was also a summer resident of Lake Pleasant, N.Y. for many years. Net was a member of the Goshen Christian Reformed Church and the Senior Bible Class of the Church. A former member of the Wyckoff Garden Club, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Christian Health Care Center. In her early career she was secretary to the director of the Christian Health Care Center before her retirement in 1965. Surviving is her beloved husband of 38 years Anthony G. Pontier; her children, Ruth and John Husselman of Midland Park, N.J., Lorraine and James White of McDowell, VA., Virginia and Robert Kuilema of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Bruce and Barbara Pontier of Lacombe, La.; 14 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; her brother George Hoogenhuis of Mahwah, N.J.; and sister Marie King of Middletown, N.Y. Funeral services will be held Saturday 10:30 a.m. at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Avenue Wyckoff, N.J. Interment will follow in the George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. MAGDALINE "HELEN" WOODRUFF

Littleton, N.H., Formerly of Middletown, N.Y. - Magdaline "Helen" Woodruff, a former resident of Middletown, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2003 at the Littleton Regional Hospital, Littleton, NH. The daughter of the late Emil and Elizabeth Ruppert Hornberger, she was born on November 9, 1910 in Fair Oaks, NY. She attended schools and worked in Middletown, NY where she resided until her retirement in 1975. Shortly after her retirement, she and her family moved to New Hampshire. A family statement reads: "Our Mom enjoyed gardening, crafts, and making things with her hands. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Littleton Senior Center where she was well known for the twinkle in her eye and always having a joke to share. She will be sadly missed by all who had the opportunity to know her." She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Markle and her husband, David of Bethlehem, NH; one granddaughter, Stacy Markle of Newton, MA; one sister, Elizabeth Kostya of the State of Florida. Her husband, William Alfred Woodruff predeceased her in 1980. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 5th at 10 AM in Our Lady Mt. Carmel Church, 90 Euclid Drive, Middletown. Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's cemetery, Middletown. EDWARD J. WUELFING SR.

Walden, N.Y. - Edward J. Wuelfing Sr., of Walden, N.Y., a retired Manager for the Commissary at the United States Military Academy at West Point and lifelong resident of the area, died December 3, 2003, Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. He was 62. The son of the late Fred P. and Eleanor Walther Wuelfing, he was born July 30, 1941 in Newburgh, New York. He served in the Army during the Vietnam Era. Edward was a loving father and grandfather and was an avid horseshoe player and bowler. Survivors include two sons, Edward J. Wuelfing, Jr. and wife Barbara of Maybrook; Fred Wuelfing and wife Jan of Walden; one daughter Rosemarie York-Smith and husband Dean of Pine Bush; five grandchildren, Craig York, Britney York, Amanda Wuelfing, Eddie Wuelfing and Jonathan York-Smith; two brothers, Lee Wuelfing and wife Barbara of Wallkill; Frederick Wuelfing of New Windsor; three sisters, Margaret Hadden and husband Ted of Scotchtown; Louise Parant and husband Ed of New Paltz; and Liz Wuelfing of the Town of Newburgh; plus several nieces and nephews. JACQUELINE "JACKIE" BARROWS SCHOONMAKER

Newburgh, N.Y. - Jacqueline Barrows Schoonmaker, a housewife, died December 1, 2003 in St. Luke's Hospital, Newburgh. She was 70. The daughter of the late Harold Barrows and Nellia Lora Pope, she was born September 6, 1933 in Springfield, Vt. Survivors include her daughters, Kendra and Jerry Brown of Cheektowaga, N.Y., Lynda and Gregory Giammarco of Newburgh, Donna and Edward Dorsey of E. Greenbush, N.Y.; brothers, Warren Barrows of the state of Florida, Wendell Barrows of Vermont, Harold Barrows of Vermont; 10 grandchildren, Mark Janeiro, Eric Brown, John Dorsey, Lora Dorsey, Paul Giammarco, Seth Giammarco, Jill Giammarco, Siji Schoonmaker, Kasi Schoonmaker, Kyle Schoonmaker; one great-grandchild, Kishaun Bell; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John "Jack" Schoonmaker; son, Kenneth Schoonmaker; daughter, Sheila Tuthill; sisters, Doris Wood, Rachel Childs, Shirley Sheehan, Bessie Childs. ADOLPH "AL" "SONNY" KOCH

Brooklyn, N.Y. - Adolph "Al" "Sonny" Koch of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Cape Vincent, N.Y., entered into rest Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at Castle Point V.A. Hospital, Castle Point, NY. The son of the late Arnold and Loretta Marks Koch, he was born June 13, 1918 in NY City, NY. He was 85 years old. Al was a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran and was married to the late Mary Koch for 56 years. Al retired in 1981 from Holmes Protective Services, a security firm. He also worked as an usher at Madison Square Garden since April 1937 for a total of 66 years of service. He was an active member of St. Sylvester Church, Brooklyn, St. Vincent of Paul Church, Cape Vincent, N.Y., an active Rosary and Adoration Society Member, and an Elks member. A family statement reads, "Al loved his family, hard work, a good meal and a scotch". Survivors include two sons Richard Koch and his wife Teresa of Warwick, Ronald Koch and his wife Mary of the State of Florida; one daughter Loretta Davis and her husband George of Warwick, seven grandchildren Katie and her husband Patrick Farley, Elizabeth Koch, Kevin Koch, Jennifer Koch, Scott Davis, Mary Prescott Davis, and Sean Davis. He was predeceased by one son Roger Koch and one sister Anne Tupper. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 6 at St. Stephens R.C. Church, Warwick. PETER E. BOLAND SR.

Highland Falls, N.Y. - Peter Edward Boland Sr. ("Husky"), a lifelong resident of Highland Falls, entered into rest on Monday, December 1, 2003 at the home of his son in Oakwood, Georgia, after a long illness. The son of Helen T. Gorry and Peter Joseph Boland, he was born on October 15, 1917 in Highland Falls. He was 86. He was predeceased by his wife of 20 years, the former Olive May Buley, who was an elementary school teacher with the Newburgh City School District at the time of her death. Peter was in the U.S. Army-Air Force during World War II where he served in the European Campaign. He took part in the D-Day invasion at Normandy. On June 23, 2003, he was one of the local veterans to receive his honorary high school diploma from Highland Falls High School. He was a retired civil service worker at Stewart Air Force Base and the Highland Falls School District where he worked as a painter. A member of Sacred Heart Church, he also belonged to the American Legion O'Connor-Doyle Post and was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 515 both of Highland Falls. As an avid golfer, he was a regular fixture at the West Point Golf Course where he was the proud owner of two Hole-in-One awards. In his later years, he worked as a golf marshall there. Peter leaves behind four children Patricia Florence Caldara and her husband Steven of New Windsor, New York, Mary Ellen Riggins and her husband Ralph of Newman, Georgia; two sons, Peter Edward Boland, Jr. and his wife Sondra of Oakwood, Georgia and Michael Shaun Boland and his wife Jamie of Newburgh, New York. Sadly missing him will be his 13 grandchildren Steven Caldara, Jr. and his wife Shannon, Jeffrey and Daniel Caldara, Marcie Lynn Mixon and her husband Shane, Pamela Lovitt, Derek and Traci Riggins, Shaun Manning, Kyle and Katie Boland, and Ryan, Matthew and Zachary Boland. He also leaves 3 great grandchildren; Joseph Caldara, Paige Manning and Trey Lovitt. A family statement reads, "Husky touched many people's lives, always had a smile on his face & will be dearly missed by all who knew him." Vails Gate, N.Y. - John E. Reed Jr. of Vails Gate, formerly of Walden and a former employee for NELCO, died Thursday, February 5, 2004 at Wingate at St. Francis at Beacon. He was 74. The son of John E. Sr. and Elizabeth A. Reed, he was born May 10, 1929 in New Castle, PA. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for over 30 years; a US Army Veteran during the Korean War; taught college courses at Napanoch and was a part time instructor in Biology. He is survived by one cousin, Helen Marie Kish of Elizabeth, PA. Memorial services will be on Sunday, February 15, 2004 at 1:00 pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Rt 208 Walden, NY. The daughter of the late Harry and Mary Campbell Decker she was born on December 31, 1939 in Harriman, NY. She was the widow of Leslie Edwards. Survivors include her son Peter Edwards and his companion Julie of Chester; her grandchildren Erica of Middletown and Joshua, Austin and Stephanie of Chester. Her great-grandson, Tyler and several nieces and nephews. Walden, N.Y. - Rae E. DeGroat of Walden, NY, a retired Science Teacher at Cornwall High School and a longtime resident of the area, died Sunday, February 8, 2004 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Cornwall. She was 83. The daughter of R.E. and Edith Koehler Tanner, she was born July 28, 1920 in Queens, NY. Rae is the widow of the late Ralph L. DeGroat. She was a former volunteer at Cornwall Hospital. Survivors include: her daughter, Pamela Cunningham and her husband Allan of Walden and three grandchildren: Lori Horaz and her companion, Joseph Fedor of Montgomery, Kristy Horaz of Walden and Michael Horaz and his wife SueLynn of Cornwall. ROBERT C. DARNELL

Ferndale, N.Y. - Robert C. Darnell, a 20 year resident of the area, died suddenly on Friday Feb. 6, 2004 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 56. He was employed by Liberty Pest Control as a Pet Management Specialist. He was an Army Veteran having served his country from 1965 to 1970. Survivors include his loving wife, Theresa "Terry" Witkowski Darnell, who he married on Dec. 20, 1969 in Brooklyn, NY; 2 daughters, Linda Darnell of Liberty and Ann Roth and her husband Charles of Swan Lake; 4 sisters, Phyllis Willard of Elkhart, Indiana; Connie Darnell of Michigan, June Frain of Waterloo, Indiana and Jean Stingel of Warsaw Indiana and 2 grandchildren, Connor and Ally Roth. The Darnell family will receive friends at their residence on Sunday Feb. 15, 2004 from 1 - 3 PM. Cremation took place at the convenience of the family at Cedar Hill Crematory in Middle Hope, NY. RUBIN FELLER

WHITE LAKE, N.Y. - Rubin Feller, a retired self employed Electrolux vacuum cleaner salesman, and longtime White Lake resident, died on Monday, February 9, 2004 in Del Ray Medical Center Del Ray Beach, Fla. He was 91. Rubin was born on September 28, 1912 in Manhattan, the son of Hyman and Gertrude Weinstein Feller. He was a World War Veteran. He was a longtime member of the Temple Beth-El, in Kauneonga Lake. He is survived by his wife, Blanche Garber Feller, at home; his two sons, Richard Feller and his wife, Kathleen, of Forestburg, and Henry Feller and his wife, Renee, of Baltimore, Md.; his five grandchildren, Kelly, Ross, Tara, Eliza, and Jason; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. in the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc., 186 Broadway Monticello. Rabbi Irwin Tenenbaum will officiate.
