SEYMOUR "DADDY" WOHL

Lauderhill, FL - Seymour "Daddy" Wohl, 78 of Lauderhill FL, died Monday, February 9, 2004 in the warm and tender care of Hospice by the Sea in Hollywood. Seymour was born on March 24, 1925 in South Fallsburg, NY. He married Janet in November, 1949 and built a life and family in the Catskills while being a successful restaurateur and concessionaire. Seymour was a loving husband, father of four, grandfather of seven and a dear friend to all who ever met him. He is survived by his wife Janet, his daughters: Bonnie and Anne; sons: Kevin and Russell and his sister Edith. He is also survived by grandchildren, ages 24 to 2: Carin, Jeff, Jason, Marni, Spencer, Caroline and Robby. Memorial Service are being held Wednesday at 2:15 PM at Star of David cemetery and Funeral Home, 7701 Bailey Rd., North Lauderhill, FL. The family will be sitting Shiva Wednesday through Friday at the family home in Lauderhill. In Lieu of flowers and gift baskets the family would appreciate that donations be sent to Hospice by the Sea, Inc. 1531 West Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, FL 33486.

METTY CHRZANKOWSKI

Middletown, N.Y. - Metty Chrzankowski, a retired laborer with Austin Nichols Liquor Company, Brooklyn died peacefully February 9, 2004 at his home in Middletown. He was 83. The son of Joseph and Frances Chrzankowski, he was born August 25, 1924 in Brooklyn. He served with the Army in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II and was a Prisoner of War. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church. Survivors include his loving wife Sadie Nelson Chrzankowski at home, his daughter Patty Josefovitz and her husband Ed, grandson Eddie Josefovitz, granddaughter Dawn Josefovitz and his sister Sophie Chrzankowski all of Middletown. He was predeceased by his son Bobby Chrzankowski. A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday February 11 at 11 AM in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, Euclid Ave, Middletown. Cremation will follow in Oxford Hills Crematory, Chester, NY. Arrangements are under the supervision of Louis W. Morse: Morse Funeral Home Inc., Middletown, NY.

EMILIA KOSENKOV

Glen Spey, N.Y. - Emilia Kosenkov, a retired housekeeper for Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis, and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis. She was 86. The daughter of the late Josef and Maria Michalska Herbko, she was born in Rega, Latvia, of February 16, 1917. She was the widow of Mitrofan Kosenkov, who passed away June 27, 2002. Survivors include one son, Valentino Kosenkov of Shohola, Pa.; three grandchildren, Mikhail, Kristine and Marya Kosenkov; and several cousins in Latvia. Friends may call on Wednesday, February 11 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 E. Main St., Port Jervis. The Vigil Wake service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. with Father Thomas Petro officiating. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 12 at 9 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Shohola, Pa. The Rev. Thomas Petro will officiate. Burial will be in Glen Spey cemetery, Glen Spey. Funeral arrangements by Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Inc., Port Jervis.

WILLIAM LEONARD FRANCOIS

Summitville, N.Y. - William Leonard Francois, a retired Hide Selector for Chester Hide and Skin, died Thursday, February 5, 2004 at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He was 66. The son of William and Catherine Pleickhardt Francois, he was born October 3, 1937 in Goshen, NY. William was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and a lifelong member and former chief of the Summitville Fire Department. Survivors include: his beloved wife of 43 years, Beverly Jane Ashley Francois, at home; three sons: Leonard, Stephen and Chester Francois; two daughters: Renee Anastasi and Cheryl Buttari; four brothers: Kevin, Ricky, Jack and Kenny; three sisters: Ruby, Rosie and Lorraine; 14 grandchildren: Brandy, Anna, Staci, Aschley Carey, Kyle, Dakota, Devin, Abrial, Alexis, Chad, Tyler, Jordan and Mara; one great-grandchild, Rachelle, and his mother-in-law, Pauline Ashley. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2004 at 11:00 am at the Phillipsport United Methodist Church, with Rev. Randy Yerkes officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Summitville Fire Department Auxiliary, POB 296, Summitville, NY 12781 or the Summitville United Methodist Church. THOMAS F. CULLEN

Bloomingburg, N.Y. - Thomas F. Cullen of Bloomingburg, a retired Sheet Metal Worker in New York City and a 14 year resident of the area, died Monday, February 9, 2004 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern. He was 76. The son of Elizabeth Cullen he was born January 14, 1928 in Manhattan, NY. He is the husband of June Cunniffe Cullen. Mr. Cullen was a member of Our Lady of The Assumption Church in Bloomingburg; a former Usher in the Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Middletown. Survivors include: his beloved wife, June at home; two loving sons: A. Thomas Hahne of Apalachin, NY and Edward T. Hahne of Pembroke Lakes, FL; one loving daughter, Clare Farrell of Bloomingburg and three grandchildren. Visitation will be on Friday, February 13 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 PM at the William M. Gagan Funeral Home, 1525 Burlingham Rd., Pine Bush, NY. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 13, 2004 at 8:30 PM at the Funeral Home with Father Raymond Bagdonis, O. Carm officiating. HARRIET KAPLAN

Monticello & Lake Worth, FL - Harriet Kaplan, a longtime resident of Monticello with a winter home in Lake Worth, Florida, and a retired manager of the former Kaplan's Delicatessen in Monticello, died Sunday, February 8, 2004, at the Wellington Hospital in Florida. She was 83 years of age. The daughter of the late Charles and Bertha Kuntz, she was born October 17, 1920, in the Bronx. Mrs. Kaplan is survived by her husband, Ben Kaplan, a columnist for the Sullivan County Democrat, at home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sari and Joel Mittleer and Ricki and Steven Lacy; four granddaughters, Tracey Daniels and her husband, Jason of Queens, Mara Epstein and her husband Eric, of Manhattan, and Emma and Carly Rothfeld, both of Boston, Mass.; four sisters-in-law, Ellen Kaplan of Bardonia, Temmy Kaplan of Margate, Fla., Irene Fritsch and her husband, Robert, of Sarasota, Fla., and Rebecca Kaplan of Monticello; and six nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Bernard Kuntz. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2004 at 1PM at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home, 186 Broadway, Monticello. PURVIS L. DAMMS

Ellenville, N.Y. - Purvis L. Damms of Ellenville, died on Monday, February 9, 2004 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. He was 62. The son of Purvis L. Sr. and Evelyn Hoff Damms, he was born on May 13, 1941 in Ellenville. Purvis was an avid fisherman and loved nature. Survivors include his wife, Christine (Tina) Lakin Damms, at home; one daughter, Patricia Bennett and her husband, Kevin, of Ulster Heights; one son, Michael Damms and his wife, Tracy, of Kerhonkson; seven grandchildren; six great granchildren; five brothers, Howard Damms and his wife, Kate, of Napanoch, Philip Damms and his wife, Miriam, of Florida, John Damms of New Paltz, John Klugh, and Robert Damms and his wife, Renee, of Ellenville; four sisters, Hazel Damms and her companion, James, of Ellenville, Robin Torrez and her husband, David, of Ellenville, Alice Freeman and her husband, Terry, of Greenfield Park and Annie of Ellenville. He was predeceased by one brother, Raymond Damms. Family will receive friends on Saturday, February 14, 2004 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 21 Canal Street, Ellenville. HAROLD F. BUSH

Kerhonkson, N.Y. - Harold F. Bush, 87, of Kyserike Rd., died Monday, February 9, 2004 at his home. The son of the late Frend and Orpha Silkworth Bush, he was born August 3, 1916 in the Clove, Town of Rochester. He was an Air Corp. and Army Veteran of WWII. Attaining the rank of Sergeant, he was awarded the American Service Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the WWII victory Medal. He had been employed as Chef at Mohonk Mt. House for many years. He was a trustee of the Benton Bar cemetery Assoc.; a member of the town of Rochester Democratic Club and served as a Democratic Committeeman. Surviving are two sisters: Marion Van Aken of Stone Ridge and Evelyn Davis of Accord; a brother, Wayne Bush of Stone Ridge; a sister-in-law, Ruth Bush and a dear friend, David Lounsbury. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by five brothers and one sister. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Thursday, February 12, 2004 at the H. B. Humiston Funeral Home, Inc., 30 Forty-second St. Kerhonkson, N.Y. with the Rev. Arlene Dawber officiating. Burial will be in Benton Bar cemetery, Kyserike, N.Y. RONALD J. BROLA Durham, N.C.

Formally of Middletown, N.Y. - Ronald Joseph Brola, a former Middletown resident, died unexpectedly on Sunday, February 8, 2004 at his home in Durham, N.C. He was 59. The son of the late Robert John and Augusta Dermeulen Brola, Ronald was born on February 23, 1944 in Cornwall. Ronald retired from the Ford Motor Company and moved to Durham in 1994 and became a landscaper. He loved working outdoors and volunteered at the Caring House in Durham. A family statement reads: "Ronald was always willing to lend a hand or just talk". He is survived by his wife at home, Lisbeth Galli Brola; one daughter, Jaqueline Kanan of Middletown; one step-son, Jordan Dropkin of Ashville, N.C.; one step-daughter, Evan Dropkin of Atlanta. GA.; two sisters, Lilly Arnott of Florida, N.Y. and Hazel Brandt of Windsor; two grandaughters and one grandson. One son, Ronald Joseph Brola Jr. predeceased him in 1987. BERNARD T. "BERNIE" CAREY SR.

Central Valley, N.Y. - Bernard T. "Bernie" Carey Sr., a senior area line supervisor for Orange and Rockland Utilities, Blooming Grove, and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, February 9, 2004 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Goshen. He was 54. The son of the late Peter A. Carey and Mary R. Boyce Carey, he was born August 8, 1949 in Goshen. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post #8858, Harriman, a member, former president and past assistant chief of Harriman Engine Company #1, Harriman, past fire commissioner for the Town of Woodbury Fire District, and former member of the American Legion Mulligan Eden Post # 1573, Harriman. He was the first Eagle Scout of Boy Scouts of America from Harriman. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during Vietnam. Survivors include his wife, Linda L. Brush Carey of Central Valley; son, Bernard T. Carey Jr. of Central Valley; daughter, Barbara L. Zubach and her husband, Joseph, of Harriman; sisters, Kathleen Behringer of Monroe, and Mary Ruff of Monroe; and several nieces and nephews. FRANCIS P. GROSSI

Pine Bush, N.Y. - Francis P. Grossi of Pine Bush, a retired Welder Specialist for Nepera Inc., Harriman, NY and a lifetime resident of the area, died Monday, February 9, 2004 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Arden Hill Campus, Goshen. He was 87. The son of Michelangelo Grossi and Pasqualina Ferrara Grossi, he was born January 19, 1917 in Brooklyn, NY. Mr. Grossi was a WWII Army Veteran; a member of the VFW Memorial Post 5492, Pine Bush; a member of the Walker Valley Sportsman Club, Wallkill Rod and Gun Club, and Montgomery Sportsman Club. He was also a member of the Walker Valley Senior Citizens. He was Past Commander of the VFW Post 5492 and currently the Chaplain. He was the husband of Ruth Shay Grossi, they were married for 62 years. A family statement read: "Francis was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed bowling for many years along with hunting and fishing. Francis enjoyed vacations with his family at the beach." Survivors include his beloved wife Ruth at home; his loving son, Joseph R. Grossi and his wife Lois of Pine Bush; his loving daughter, Ruth M. Miller and her husband Gerald of Pine Bush; one granddaughter, Judith Yannantuono of Pine Bush; four grandsons: Joseph T. Grossi of Montgomery, Gerald Miller Jr. of Manhattan, Scott Miller of Slate Hill and Jeffrey Miller of Pine Bush; one great grandson, Bryan Yannantuono of Pine Bush; two brothers: Dominick Grossi of Pine Bush and Thomas Grossi of Pine Bush, as well as several nieces and nephews. RICHARD L. HESS

Highland Falls, N.Y., Formerly of Middletown, N.Y. - Richard L. Hess, a retired real estate appraiser of Newburgh, and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, February 9, 2004 at home. He was 77. The son of the late George E. Hess and Pauline Lawrence Hess, Richard was born May 27, 1926 in Middletown. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1944 and Mohawk College, SUNY after the war. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific, including Okinawa and Guam, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, American Theater, World War II victory and survivor's medals. He was past president of Highland Falls Lions Club, member of West Point Lodge No. 877 F&AM;, former member of Hoffman Lodge, Middletown, American Legion Post, Highland Falls and Post 151, Middletown, having served as past commander. He was a Little League and Senior (Youth) League Coach and official in both communities, Cubmaster for Pack 24, Town of Highlands, and actively assisted in Youth Hockey Programs at West Point and Bear Mountain. Professionally he was a certified Real Estate appraiser, M.A.S. and held a NYS Insurance Broker's License. Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Nancy Roosa Hess of Highland Falls; sons, Richard L. Hess II of Albuquerque, N.M., Paul R. Hess of Albuquerque, N.M., and Ronald R. Hess of Highland Falls; brother, Dr. William J. Hess and his wife, Betsy, of Monterey, Tenn.; grandchildren, Angela, Joshua, Christopher, Ronald, Matthew, Richard L. III, and Michael; great granddaughter, Nadia; and brother-in-law, Rev. Edgar Roosa and wife, Linda, of Center Valley, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. LORETTA SCHUSTER JOHNSON BURNS

Miami, Fla. - Loretta Burns, a mother and homemaker, died on Wednesday, January 28, 2004 in Miami, Fla., where she had wintered for many years. She was 83 and a native of Highland Falls. Born to Arthur Schuster Johnson and Loretta Berry Johnson, she lived all of her years in Highland Falls, most of them with her loving husband, Carlos Burns, who predeceased her. Since public service was very important to her, she gave much time, effort, and tremendous vitality to her community. Among her many positions, she was president of the Highland Falls Central School Parents Club, a committee member for the local Girl Scout Troop, Trustee of the Highland Falls Public Library, member of the Town Planning Board, chairperson and committee member for the Town Fourth of July Celebration, Democratic Committee member, and member of the Highland Falls Homemakers. She was also a great source of local history concerning Highland Falls and West Point, especially the history of the Tenth Cavalry in this area. An active and lifelong Episcopalian, Loretta was a member of the Church of the Holy Innocents, where she was christened and confirmed. She served on the vestry, the alter guild, and search committee. She is survived by her sister, Frances Johnson Davis, of Alexandria, Va.; her daughters, Lori Burks of Louisville, Ky., and Carla Burns of Highland Falls; her sons, Carlos Burns and his wife, Beatrice, of Miami, Fla. and Russell Burns and his wife, Linda, of Teaneck, N.J.; grandchildren, Renee Nelson and her husband, Kenneth, of Elkins Park, Pa., Jeremy Burns of Miami, Fla., Wallis Burks of Louisville, Ky., and Louis Burns and Dorien Burns of Teaneck, N.J.; niece, Dolly Davis of Brooklyn; nephews, Ernest Davis Jr. of New York City and Robert Davis of Albuquerque, N.M.; as well as cousins, Gladys Schuster Carter of Chesapeake, Va., Sylvia Schuster Banks of Yonkers and Wendell Jones, Bertram Jones and Loretta Jones Hatchett, all of St. Louis, Mo. A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 12 at The Church of the Holy Innocents, 401 Main St., in Highland Falls. Memorial contributions can be made to the Church of the Holy Innocents Stained Glass Window Fund and The Highland Falls Public Library. The entire Burns family expresses gratitude to the staff at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the Vitas Hospice Unit of Adventura Hospital in Miami, for their compassionate, competent care and support. Hudson, Fla. - William F. Kloeber, a resident of Hudson, Fla., passed away Friday, May 28, 2004 at the Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Center. He was 85. Born in Westchester, he moved to the State of Florida 15 years ago from Forest Nolls, Greenwood Lake. He was a restaurant owner and Catholic by faith. A family statement reads: "His family was his life." Survivors include his wife, Gladys; one son, Bart; and one daughter, Valerie, both from Greenwood Lake; and one brother, Leonard of Upper Saddle River, N.J. Plattsburgh, N.Y. - Linda (Crawford) Friedman of Plattsburgh, NY, died Saturday, May 29, 2004 at CVPH Medical Center. She was born October 6, 1944 in Newburgh, NY. She was predeceased by her parents, Inez (Larkin) Crawford and Kenneth E. Crawford. Linda is survived by her husband, Albert Friedman; son, Adam (Crawford) Friedman and his wife, Melissa and their four children; two sisters: Patricia (Crawford) Landolfa of Newburgh and Nancy (Crawford) Davis of Florence, AL, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Local arrangements were made by Brooks-DiDonato Funeral Home.

Newburgh, N.Y. - Mary S. Bowman, a homemaker, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2004 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital Newburgh, NY. He was 77. She was born on June 25, 1926 in Newburgh, N.Y. to the late Peter Matagora and Frances Altopedi. She was married to the late Arthur Bowman in 1974. She is survived by her two sons Arthur Rivers of Mt. Vernon, NY and Edward Bowman of Newburgh, NY. One brother Edward Matagora of Arlington, TX. Sacramento, CA - Bernice Stevenson passed away May 27, 2004 at the Kaiser Hospital in Sacramento. She has lived in Sacramento for the past 24 years, prior to that she lived in the Newburgh area where she was born on September 17, 1929 and grew up and worked in the clothing manufacture business as a Seamstress. She was a daughter of Harvey Burger and Emma Cristen Burger. Mother to Juanita Leonard, Wesley Burger, Clarence Stevenson Jr. and Sherry Bolden. Sister of Veester Brown and Harvey J. Burger. Grandmother of 9 and great grandmother of 4. Funeral services will be held in the Macedonia Baptist Church, 700 Benton Ave., Sacramento, CA on Thursday, June 3, 2004 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be the evening before until 8 p.m. in the Nightingale-Gilmore Funeral Chapel, Sacramento, CA and interment will be made in the Sylvan cemetery, Citrus Heights, CA.

NAREEN P. DeWITT

Bullville, N.Y. - Nareen P. DeWitt, of Bullville, a retired hairdresser and a 75-year resident of the area, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at the Orange County Residential Health Care Facility in Goshen. She was 75. The daughter of Henry and Julia Schmidt Muller, she was born on July 29, 1928 in Middletown. She was a member of the Bullville Fire Department Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Robert DeWitt; her sons, Kenneth DeWitt of Middletown and Allan DeWitt of Bloomingburg; her daughter, Judy DeWitt-Levitas of Middletown; grandchildren, Brent, Jon and Jason DeWitt. Visitation hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, June 4 at DeWitt Funeral Home, 64 Center Street, Pine Bush. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 5 at the funeral home. Pastor Robert Hewitt will officiate. Burial will be at Bullville cemetery, Bullville. Arrangements by DeWitt Funeral Home.
