COREL UNIQUE EVANS

Newburgh, N.Y. - Corel Unique Evans, infant, of Newburgh, died May 31, 2004 at Westchester Medical Center. The son of Corey Evans and Tynisa Woody, he was born April 20, 2004 at Westchester Medical Center. A family statement reads, "He was sent to us as an Angel in disguise to forever watch over us. Now he has gone home to God where he can be at peace. The time spent will be forever cherished and Corel will be forever loved." Survivors include his father and mother of Newburgh; two grandmothers, Sheila Brunson and Jannie Evans; grandfathers, Calvin Woody and George Benjamin; great-great grandparents, Willie and Sallie Brunson and Alvin and Marvetta Woody; three aunts, Artava Williamson, Shaquan Melvin and Ashley Woody; two uncles, Calvin Woody and Caelin Woody. Services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Brutus W. Hodge Funeral Home, 13 Chambers St., Newburgh. Elder Jeffery Woody will officiate. Burial will be at Cedar Hill cemetery in Middlehope. Arrangements by Brutus W. Hodge Funeral Home.

ROBERT J. CAVALUZZI JR.

New Windsor, N.Y. - Robert J. Cavaluzzi, Jr., passed away Thursday, May 20, 2004, while vacationing in Florida. He was born in the Bronx, New York, on June 6, 1945, to Robert and Christine Cavaluzzi. Bob graduated from Fordham Prep. and then went on to Fordham University where he received BA and MA degrees in English. Bob was a dedicated teacher of English at Ramapo High School and Spring Valley Senior High School for more than 30 years. He also taught English at Rockland Community College as an adjunct professor for a number of years. Bob lived in Rockland County for many years where he was very active in the community as a volunteer, mediator, and community activist. He moved to Orange County later in life, where he enjoyed the natural beauty and many activites available there. He is survived by his 2 sons, Andy and Todd, and his life-partner Annie Quintiliani. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in the name of Robert J. HOWARD E. PUGH

New Windor, N.Y. - Howard E. Pugh, a retired truck driver for Tobin Packing New Windsor, N.Y., passed away on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at Horton Regional Medical Center. He was 78. He was born on March 31, 1926 in Albany, NY to the later Robert Rosia and Ester Hirsch. Howard served in the Navy during WWII and he was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints. Howard was a devoted husband and father whose family was his greatest pride and joy. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis Pugh at Home. Three sons Robert Pugh and his wife Summer of Draper, Utah, Jeffrey Pugh and his wife Cindy of Seminole, FL, and Brian Pugh and his wife Melisa of Las Vegas, NV. Two daughtersDale Hein and husband William of New Windsor, NY. And Sandra Johnson and husband West of Brooklyn, NY. Twenty grandchildren and Eight great grandchildren. His funeral service will be held on Saturday June 5, 2004 at 10 a.m. at Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Mauseleum.

MELVIN B. MORGAN

Newburgh, N.Y. - Melvin B. Morgan, retired truck driver for A.M. Kennedy, Inc. and longtime resident of the area, died Sunday, May 30, 2004 at Westchester Medical Center. He was 67. The son of the late Martez and Esther Duckett Morgan, he was born December 8, 1936 in Canton, North Carolina. He was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah Witness, Old Little Britain Road in Newburgh. He was the husband of Joanne Rutkevicz Morgan. Survivors include his wife Joanne at home; sons: Douglas Morgan of Edinburg, Va., Todd Morgan of Tampa, FL and Scott Morgan of Myrtle Beach, SC; daughter, Susan Lewis of Rock Tavern; brother Gerald Morgan of Canton, NC; sister, Janice Morgan of Canton, NC, as well as eight grandchildren and nieces and nephews. There will be no visitation. A memorial talk will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at Kingdom Hall, Old Little Britain Rd., Town of Newburgh. Cremation will be in Cedar Hill Crematory. JACLYN M. LASKOWSKI

Middletown, N.Y. - Jaclyn M. Laskowski died suddenly on her 23rd birthday at home in Spring Glen NY. The daughter of Michael and Georgette Juresic Laskowski, Jaclyn was born on June 1, 1981 in Goshen, NY. Jaclyn grew up in the Middletown area. She attended Middletown High School and later Orange County Community College. Jaclyn will be remembered by her family as an artist who loved to draw. She enjoyed animals, especially horses. She was a warm-hearted person who will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Jaclyn is survived by her parents, Michael and Georgette, one sister, Adrienne Liskowski of Otisville, an aunt, Mildred Petrinic of Alpine, NJ, and several cousins and many friends. Friends and family may call on Thursday, June 3, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, NY. NORMA AUDREY SCHMITT

Milford, PA - Norma Audrey Schmitt, 85, of Milford, PA, died on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 in Fairlawn, NJ. She worked for many years at Selected Risk in Branchville and retired from the Pike County Area Agency of Aging in 2002 at the age of 84. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Milford, PA and the Milford Bridge Club who met at Best Western in Matamoras, PA. She was born in New York, NY on September 17, 1918 to George and Yvonne (Kotrobaty) Stewart. She was the widow of Charles Eugene Schmitt who predeceased her in 1987. Survivors include two daughters: Margaret Weinrich of Fairlawn, NJ and Mary Gelormino of Matamoras, PA; two sons: John and George Schmitt, both of Hemlock Farms, PA; one sister, Blanche Miller of San Diego, Ca; seven grandchildren: Paul, Donna, Eric, John II, Kaylan, Cianni and Emily as well as 8 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 4, 2004 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 111 E. High St., Milford, PA. The Rev. Gerald Mullally will officiate. E. MELLOR HARRIS

Newburgh, N.Y. - E. Mellor Harris, a retired manager for A&P; and lifetime area resident, entered into rest Thursday, May 27, 2004 in St. Luke's Hospital, Newburgh. He was 85. Son of the late Charles F. and Nedaline Rowley Harris, he was born March 19, 1919 in Newburgh. Mellor enjoyed fishing and was a devoted Yankee fan. He was a family man who loved his grandchildren immensely. He will be sadly missed. Survivors include his wife, Lena LaVecchia Harris, whom he married on September 29, 1962 in St. Patrick's Church, Newburgh; two daughters, Nedaline Spampinato and her husband Michael of Newburgh and Helena DeLessio and her husband Paul of Marlboro; his sister, Margaret Schuhle and her husband Harold of Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Mary Harris of North Carolina; his grandchildren, Nicole Spampinato, and Nicholas, Rebecca, Sara, Olivia and Alyssa DeLessio; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles and Harold Harris. A Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 4 at Our Lady of the Lake Church, Newburgh. Burial of ashes will be in Wallkill Valley cemetery, Walden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to St. Patrick's Church, 55 Grand St., Newburgh NY 12550 in memory of E. RICHARD W. HENRY

New York City, N.Y. - Richard W. Henry passed away on June 2, 2004 at Memorial Sloane Kettering Hospital in New York City. Born May 23, 1924 in Lyons, N.Y., Richard was the fourth of six children born to William and Bertha (Hilficker) Henry. He is survived by his loving wife Val Henry and their three children, Elizabeth Helene Zoba of Indianapolis, Ind., Joan Arlene Kuecken of Madison, Wisc. and William Richard Henry of Highland, N.Y.; sisters, Arlene Kilian of Fayettville, N.Y. and Elaine Harper of Golden, Colo.; brother, Pete Henry of Honeoye Falls, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Abigail, Emily and Caroline Zoba and Jonathan and Kristen Kuecken. Richard resided in Longboat Key, Fla. and in Madison, Wisc. He was the owner and president of R.W. Henry, Inc., a successful wholesale building materials business located on Jeanne Drive in Newburgh, N.Y. For many years, Richard and Val Henry resided in Mount Kisco, N.Y., where he was at one time President of the Mount Kisco Republican Party. Richard was a graduate of the Rochester business Institute, where he majored in accounting. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Hospital or to the American Cancer Society. A small family memorial service was held at the Nagel Funeral Home in New York City, and a memorial service to celebrate Richard Henry's life will be held this summer in Lake Placid, N.Y.

KATHERINE M. HARFORD

Port Jervis, N.Y. - Katherine M. Harford of Port Jervis, now resting in the arms of Jesus, died peacefully Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Bon Secours Community Hospital. She was retired from Kolmar Labs and was a resident of the area for most of her life. She was 87. She was born April 13, 1917 in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late Henry and Meta Lullman Borsdam. She was married to the late Floyd Harford; he died April 9, 1967. Survivors include four sons, Keith Harford and his wife, Pat, of Costa Mesa, Calif., Ray Harford of Port Jervis, James Harford of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Louis Harford and his wife, Judy, of Modena; three daughters, Ruth Kurtz and her husband, John, of Port Jervis, Carol Tufano and her husband, Joe, of Port Jervis, and Diane Graham and her husband, Jim, of Port Jervis; 18 grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 East Main Street, Port Jervis on Friday, June 4, 2004 from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 4 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Eileen Perreault officiating. STELLA C. SEARS

Punxsutawney, Pa. - Stella C. Sears of Punxsutawney, Pa., died June 1, 2004 at Punxsutawney Area Hospital. She was 86. The daughter of Vincent Lapaglia and Sarah Oddo, she was born July 13, 1917 in Pittsburgh, Pa. She was married Kenneth A. Sears in November of 1943; he died October 23, 1990. She was a member of Dayton United Methodist Church and of the United Methodist Women. Survivors include two sons and four daughters; Raymond Sears of Stump Creek, Pa., William Sears of Punxsy, Pa., Dee Sears of New York, Roseann Goble of Punxutawney, Pa., Sandra Merry and her husband, Dean, of Pine Bush, and Ginny Dimsey and her husband, Gary, of Pine Bush; 24 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and three sisters, Ginny Volpe of Wilkinsburg, Pa., Mary Affatigato of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Minnie Mastrilli of Las Vegas, Nev. She was predeceased by her husband; son, Kenneth; three brothers, Charles Lapaglia, Joseph Lapaglia, and Vincent Lapaglia; and three sisters, Sarah Sacamango, Josephine Lapaglia, and Rosie Mastrlia. Friends will be received in the Deeley Funeral Home, 33 Hillcrest Drive, Punxsutawney, Pa., from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, June 2 and from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 3. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. from the Dayton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Howard officiating. Burial will be in Emory Chapel cemetery, Dayton, Pa.

MARY FRANCES BUTTERFIELD

Exeter, N.H. - Mary Frances "Mif" Butterfield, of 2 Brentwood Road, died Monday, May 31, 2004 on her 69th birthday at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born May 31, 1935 in Kingston, NY the daughter of Thelma (DePuy) Hoornbeek Marl of Kingston and the late John C. Hoornbeek. She was a 1953 graduate of Dana Hall in Wellesley, MA. In 1957 she received her Bachelor's Degree in dietary science from The University of Syracuse in New York, where she met her husband of 46 years, Norman A. Butterfield, of Exeter. She had resided in Exeter since 1975 coming from Sidney, NY. Mrs. Butterfield worked for 25 years as office manager at Philbrick's Sales and Service in North Hampton, NH, retiring last year. Of the utmost importance to her were her friends and family. In addition to her mother and husband, family members include two daughters, Jill A. Butterfield and her partner Mike Leary, of Dover, NH, Gretchen G. Wolfe and her husband Michael, of Pittsfield, NH; a son, Norman J. "Jack" Butterfield and his wife Naomi Notman, of Denver, CO; two grandsons, Tucker and Casey Jack Wolfe; two sisters, Lesley Andersen and Tracey Connor, both of Cragsmoor, NY; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 200 High Street, Hampton, NH, Saturday, June 5, 2004 at 10 A.M. BRIAN G. MICHAUD

Cornwall, N.Y. - Brian G. Michaud, 5 year resident of Cornwall and a Cook for Storm King School, Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Cornwall, NY. He was 56. The son of George Michaud, deceased, and Elaine Bowden, he was born in Nashua, New Hampshire on March 28, 1948. He was married to Deborah A. Martin. He was a member of Lighthouse Christian Assembly, Highland Falls, NY and member of the Worship Team for Lighthouse Christian Assembly. A family statement reads: "His passion was his music and a good game of golf." Survivors include his wife Deborah A. Michaud at home; mother Elaine Bowden of Chester, CA; daughters: Suzanne Parks and husband Chris of San Jose, CA and Cynthia McCallion and husband Kenneth of Blooming Grove, NY; brothers: Daniel Michaud of Chester, CA, Steven Michaud of Chico, Ca and Anthony Cushing, Milwaukie, OR; sisters: Kim Duffy, Meridian, CA and Sandra Smith of Chester, CA; great aunt, Irene Patterson of Brewster, MA; grandson, Elijah Parks, as well as several nieces and nephews. ELEANOR S. SIEGEL

Middletown, N.Y. - Eleanor S. Siegel, a retired secretary and 10-year area resident, died Monday, May 31, 2004 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus. She was 83. The daughter of the late Phillip and Dorothy Pfieffer Hertling, Eleanor was born on July 17, 1920 in Queens. She was a secretary for Paramount Pictures in New York City and moved to Middletown in 1993 where she was a parishioner of Bread of Life Church in Bullville. A family statement reads: "She was the matriach of the family and a employee of Paramount Pictures until her retirement. She was always there for her family and friends, often driving her church family to appointments, taking care of the grandchildren after school and guiding her family in the right direction. No matter how bad the situation, she always had a good laugh standing by. She is finally where she wants to be, but we will miss her dearly." Eleanor is survived by one daughter, Louis McGuinness of Middletown; one sister, Dorothy Spannagel of Middletown; two grandaughters, Joan McCoy of Middletown and Jennifer LoFrese and her husband Steven of Queens and five great grandchildren; Christa, Rachel, Brittany, Christopher and Nicholas. Family and friends may visit on Friday, June 4, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown. SUSAN C. JOHNSON

Orlando, FL - Formerly of Bloomingburg, NY Susan Carey Johnson, formerly of Bloomingburg, died Monday, May 31, 2004 in Orlando, FL. She was 92. She was born in New York City on November 21, 1911 to the late Fred Evans Wood and Grace Caveney Wood and was married to Earnest J. Johnson who predeceased her on May 15, 1986. She was a member and past president of the Bloomingburg Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, member of the Bloomingburg United Methodist Church, as well as the Orlando United Methodist Church. She will be dearly missed by many. Susan is survived by her brother John Wood, of Bronx, NY; sister, Grace Marburger of Kingston; four sons: George M. Johnson and his wife Julia, Frank F. Johnson and his wife Linda, Russell E. Johnson all of Bloomingburg and Benjamin B. Johnson and his wife Judy of Kissimmee, FL; 14 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother, Fred Wood; sister, Pat Gallagher, daughter-in-laws, Kathleen A. Johnson and Elizabeth Johnson; and her foster son Wayne M. Arnold. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan St. Wurtsboro, NY. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday morning, June 5 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Betty Beach officiating. Burial will follow in the Bloomingburg Rural cemetery, Bloomingburg. BERNHARDINE M. GAGE

Walden, N.Y. - Bernhardine M. Gage of Westminster, Colo., a retired teacher for Valley Central Schools, and an area resident for most of her life, died May 27, 2004 in Westminster, Colo. She was 89. The daughter of Warren Morse and Emma Pimm Morse, she was born December 21, 1914 in Newburgh. With her late husband, Herbert L. Gage, whom she married on June 27, 1942 in Tacoma, Wash., she founded the Gage Agency Inc. in Walden, later moved to Middletown. She received her teaching degree from State University at New Paltz and bachelor degree from New York University. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Walden, United Methodist Women, Walden Woman's Club, and New York State Association of Retired Teachers. She enjoyed bridge playing and was a world-wide traveler following her retirement. Survivors include her son, Herbert L. Gage Jr. and his wife, Claire, of Middletown; daughter, Jeanne G. Downes of Denver, Colo.; grandchildren, Wesley Downes, Anna Downes, Stephanie Gage, Dennis Leskanic, and Brian Leskanic; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Elizabeth, Brianna, Benjamin and Avery. She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert L. Gage; brother, Warren Morse; and sister, Gertrude Morse. Visitation will be Friday, June 4 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank Street, Walden. Funeral will be Saturday, June 5 at 10 a.m. at Millspaugh Funeral Home. The Reverend Kent Jackson will officiate. Burial will be in Wallkill Valley cemetery in Walden. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The United Methodist Church of Walden. LOUIS V. DIANA

Middletown, N.Y. - Louis V. Diana, a lifetime resident of Middletown died June 2, 2004 in Orange Regional Medical Center at Horton. He was 81. The son of Vincent and Rose Catizone Diana, he was born October 9, 1922 in Middletown. He was the widower of Margaret R. Kummer Diana He retired as a Letter Carrier with Middletown Post Office and then delivered parts for Sisco Auto Parts, Middletown, he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of Middletown Elk Lodge #1097. Louie enjoyed life, especially the time that he spent with his family, usually trying to feed them. He always made us laugh, even when he wasn't trying to. He'll be missed by his children, grandchildren, sister and other family members and his many friends. He'll be especially missed by his devoted poodle, Maggie. He is survived by his son Louis J. Diana and his wife Dawn, three daughters Denise Rogers and her husband Chet, Bonnie Bernaski and her husband Rich “Butch” all of Middletown and Sharon Therriault and her husband Tom of Schenectady, his sister Mary Kanoff of Middletown, eight grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Salvatore Diana. Friends may call from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. Friday June 4 at Morse Funeral Home, Inc., 33 Railroad Ave., Middletown with ELK services at 7:30 p.m. and prayer services at 8 p.m. A Mass of The Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday June 5 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 149 Cottage St., Middletown. JOHN EDWARD CALLAHAN

Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y. - John Edward Callahan, of Cornwall-on-Hudson, died suddenly on May 31, 2004 in Olney, Md. The son of William J. and Mary Carney Callahan, he was born on Feb. 22, 1923 in Winfield, Queens, N.Y. He was 81. He was a US Army Air Corps veteran of World War II; US Air Force veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars and retired from the US Air Force Reserves. He worked as a civilian superintendent of maintenance at Mitchel Air Force Base, Lond Island and Stewart Air Force Base, Newburgh. He was a member and for many years an usher at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion and a former Boy Scout Troop leader for Troop 21. He was an avid coin collecter and widely traveled. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Aileen Fullam Callahan at home; a daughter, Mary Ann of New York City; and four sons, John E. Jr. and his wife Maggie of Charlotte, N.C., James G. and his wife Lisa of Fairfield, Conn., Thomas J. and his wife Dorothy of Olney, Md. and Kevin R. and his wife Anne of Temecula, Calif.; grandchildren include Thomas J. and Michele Elizabeth of Olney, Md., Katherine Louise, Caroline Mary and Robert John of Fairfield, Conn. and Aidan Galvin of Temecula, Calif.; another granddaughter, Catherine predeceased him. Friends may call at the James F. Lulves Funeral Home, 9 Avenue A., Cornwall- on-Hudson on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church, Cornwall-on-Hudson on Friday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Bernard Heter will officiate. Buiral will be at St. Thomas of Canterbury cemetery, Cornwall. SIGMUND N. AUERBACH

Ellenville, N.Y. - Sigmund N. Auerbach, longtime Ellenville resident, passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2004 in Ellenville Community Hospital, Ellenville, NY. He was 87. Sig was born in San Antonio, Texas on July 21, 1916, the son of the late Harry and Bessie Auerbach. He spent the greater part of his youth growing up in New York City. He was a graduate of James Madison High School and went on to serve under General George Patton in the Fourth Armored Division. He was a decorated war hero having spent considerable time in the European Theater and retired from the US Army with the rank of Master Sergeant. Sig married Rose Weiss on May 5, 1942 in New York City and moved to Ellenville after being honorable discharged from the U.S. Army. Along with his wife, Rose, Sig owned and operated Ace Hardware Co. from 1948 until 1999. He was a fixture in the community for the past fifty ears and served on many civic and fraternal organizations. He was the Chairman of the Ellenville Zoning Board of Appeals for over three decades. He was a director of Congregation Anshe Tzaydik and a member of Congregation Ezrath Israel. Sig was a director in the Ellenville Credit Union, a member of the Gotham Lodge F & AM and the Royal Arch Masons in Ellenville. Sig was a past Commander of the Jewish War Veterans, and a member of the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife of over sixty-two years Rose; his two sons Dr. Jeffrey Auerbach and his wife Chana of Port Jervis and Elliott Auerbach and his wife Judi of Ellenville; his six grandchildren Andrew and his wife Lauren, Evan, Gregory, Corey, Karen and Kim; and his two great- grandchildren Brooke and Brian. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 4, 2004 at 11 a.m. in Congregation Anshe Tzaydik Synagogue, 186 Canal Street, Ellenville, NY. Rabbi Moshe Frank will officiate. Burial will be in Congregation Anshe Tzaydik cemetery, Route 209, Wawarsing, NY. Funeral Arrangements by Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc. Ellenville, NY.
