Greenville Township, N.Y. - Margaret P. Olah, of Port Jervis, died on Tuesday June 8, 2004 at Orange Regional Medical Center in Middletown, NY. She was 80. The daughter of the late Arthur Joseph and Elizabeth Reiner Pyka, she was born on December 30, 1923 in Manhattan. Margaret worked as a buyer for Sullivan's Dept. Store prior to her retirement. She was a member of Holy Cross Church in South Centerville, NY, and was the Treasurer of the George Smith Post 1607, Ladies Auxiliary in Unionville, NY. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Margaret E. Cooley of Yorba Linda, CA; her son, Arthur Olah and his wife, Rebecca of Johnson, NY; grandchildren: Timothy Cooley and his wife Pilar of Placentia, CA, Michelle Fenner and her husband Dave of Westtown, Cassandra Cooley of Sacramento, CA, David Olah of Staten Island and Thomas Cooley of Yorba Linda, CA; and great-grandchildren: Andrew and Adam Fenner. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Paul Olah in 1981. ALDA L. ZIEGLER

Wappingers Falls, N.Y. - Alda L. Ziegler, a homemaker and former registered nurse at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, died June 8, 2004 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was 82. The daughter of Watson and Bertha Whittaker Lewis, she was born April 25, 1922 in Saugerties. She was a 52-year resident of Wappingers Falls and was formerly of West Camp, N.Y. She was a graduate of Saugerties High School and received her RN from University of the State of New York, N.Y.C. She was married on July 6, 1944 to Harold R. Ziegler in West Camp. He passed away on Feb. 10, 1988. Survivors include her son, Doug H. Ziegler and his wife Harriet of Salt Point, N.Y.; three daughters, Donna S. Baxter and her husband Henry of Exton, Pa., Nadine L. Ziegler of Poughkeepsie, Marlene K. Nelson and her husband Len of Clinton Corners, N.Y.; daughter-in-law, Linda Ziegler of Poughkeepsie; son-in-law, Rob Johnston of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Rodney and Dianna Johnston, Christine Young, Kara Bohack, Jaclyn Tyler, Becky and Joe Baxter, Stephen and Keith Nelson; five great-grandchildren, Randy, Tyler and Madison Johnston, Kyle Bohack, Joclynn Tyler; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one daughter Jerilyn A. Johnston; one son, Richard L. Ziegler; three brothers, Ben, Vivian and Vince Lewis. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday at Straub Funeral Home Inc., 55 E. Main St., Wappingers Falls. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 11 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Fishkill Rural cemetery. ROBERTA MAY BERGHAHN

Lake Katrine, N.Y. - Roberta May Berghahn, formerly of Poughkeepsie, moving to this area in 1999 due to her illness, died Monday, June 7, 2004 at Ten Broeck Commons, Lake Katrine. She was 69. The daughter of the late Ernest Ford and Eleanor Smith Ford, she was born December 18, 1934 in Troy, N.Y. She was married on June 25, 1960 to Robert Otto Berghahn. She graduated in 1952 from Groton High School in Yonkers and from Springfield College, Springfield, Mass. in 1957 with a BS in Elementary Education. She was a teacher at Ardsley Elementary Schools in Ardsley and was an active member of the New Hackensack Reformed Church in Wappingers Falls, where she also taught Sunday School for nearly 30 years. She was a dedicated community volunteer for Meals on Wheels and was an accomplished gardner and baker. Survivors include her husband Robert Otto Berghahn of Saugerties; two daughters, Cynthia Sickler of Kingston and Catherine Berghahn of Nairobi, Kenya; two sons, Robert Berghahn of Poughquag and Richard Berghahn of Poughkeepsie; son-in-law, Kenneth Sickler; daughters-in-law, Katherine Berghahn and Lisa Berghahn; grandsons, Kenneth, Adam, and Aaron Sickler; granddaughters, Courtney, Allison, and Caroline Berghahn; grandsons, Robert, Lucas and Benjamin Berghahn. She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Welge and a twin brother, Robert Ford who died in infancy. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday at Keyser and Hamilton Funeral Service Inc., 326 Albany Avenue, Kingston. Interment will be private at the discretion of the family. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday. Goshen, N.Y. - Garland Young of Goshen, a retired Custodian for Gurda Farms, and a longtime resident of the area died Tuesday, June 08, 2004 in Goshen. He was 104. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Logger Young, he was born January 01, 1900 in Memphis, Tennessee. Graveside services will be Friday June 11, 2004 at 12:00 P.M. at Hillside cemetery, Middletown. Reverend Sue Wonderland will officiate. Arrangements were made by Millspaugh Funeral Directors.

GILBERTO "CHOLO" OCHOA

Newburgh, N.Y. - Gilberto "Cholo" Ochoa, of Newburgh, son of Eusebio and Florinda Ochoa, joined the Angels in Heaven on Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at home with his family by his side. He was 6 years old. Gilberto was born on January 2, 1998 in Westchester. Cholo was a student at Meadow Hill School, a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church, and a member of Mission Guadalupana. The family would like to give thanks to all who have helped them through their pain and difficult times, with a special thanks to Monsignor John Budwick. Survivors include his parents, at home; three sisters, Stephanie, Jacqueline and Giselle Ochoa, at home; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 12 at Brooks-DiDonato Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. LINA DOSCH

Formerly of Jeffersonville, N.Y. - Lina Dosch, a homemaker, formerly of Jeffersonville, NY. died Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at Carollon Nursing home in Huntington, NY. Born September 12, 1907 in Germany, she was the daughter of Ludwig and Emma Woerner Reiser. She was the devoted wife of the late Alfons Dosch who was also born in Germany. Mr Dosch died November 26, 1993. Mrs. Dosch was a member of St. Georges Roman Catholic Church, Jeffersonville, NY and the Jeffersonville Senior Citizens. She was the loving mother of one son, Ludwig Dosch and his wife Judith of North Babylon, NY and one daughter Ellen Joyce and her husband Edmund of East Northport, NY. She was a dear grandmother to eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. JOHN C. DEYOUNG JR

White Sulphur Springs, N.Y. - John C. DeYoung Jr., a resident of White Sulphur Springs, and a disabled former truck driver, died June 8, 2004 at home. He was 48. The son of John C. DeYoung Sr. and Shirley H. Lauber DeYoung, he was born December 28, 1955 in Liberty. "He was a loving husband and beloved father. He will be deeply loved and missed." John is survived by his mother, Shirley DeYoung of Iuka, Mass.;his loving wife of 11 years, Patricia Conklin DeYoung of White Sulphur Springs; loving daughter, Heidi DeYoung and his future son-in-law, John Moore of Hurleyville; two sisters, Barbara and James Provenzano of Fla., and Kathy Morgan of Iuka Mass.; his grandmother, Katherine DeYoung of Frayeszburg, Ohio; his step-daughter, Beatrice Hamilton of Shokan; a large loving road family; and several nieces and several great-nephews. DR. ALLEN DAVID SHAPIRO

Newburgh, N.Y. - Dr. Allen David Shapiro, a lifelong resident of the area, formerly of Newburgh, and a retired Pediatrician and Allergist, passed away on Saturday, April 3, 2004 in Massachusetts. He was 86. The son of the late Jacob Shapiro and Sadye Levinson Shapiro, he was born on May 10, 1917 in Newburgh. He was married to Estelle Ordover. He attended the Newburgh Public Schools, Cornell University, Long Island College of Medicine and the New York Medical College. He was a World War II veteran and served in the medical corp. between 1943 and 1946. He was a past president of Temple Beth Jacob, past president of Orange County Medical Society, a member of American Academy of Pediatrics and Phi Betta Kappa. He practiced Pediatrics and Allergies from 1948 until his retirement in 1983 when he became the school physician for the Newburgh School District. Survivors include his widow, Estelle Shapiro; daughter, Lois Shapiro Antonucci of Watertown, Mass.; and two grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 13 at Temple Beth Jacob. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. Highland Falls, N.Y. - Ruby J. Crill-Cruz of Highland Falls, a housewife and a lifelong area resident, formerly of Newburgh and Winnsboro, S.C., died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh. She was 57. The daughter of the late John J. Jones and Ruby P. Hull Jones, she was born July 19, 1946 in Cornwall. Survivors include her husband, Jose Cruz of Winnsboro, S.C.; sons, Howard Crill and his wife, Colleen of Winnsboro, S.C. and Jason Reynolds of Rock Hill S.C.; daughters, Jacque Perkowski and her husband, Steve, of Port Jervis, Tammy Stevens and her husband, Jack, of Highland Falls, Susan Pulido and her husband, Pablo, of Highland Falls, and Kathleen Aguilar of Highland Falls; sisters, Donna Reynolds and her late husband, Pete, of Greenville, S.C., and Jacque Empey and her husband, Kenneth, of Richfield Springs; 14 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Newburgh, N.Y. - Jubert Billings, a resident of Newburgh, and a retired Cadet Mess Supervisor for the United States Military Academy, West Point, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at home. He was 60. The son of the late Elman Billings and Maude Foster, he was born September 29, 1943 in Jamaica, West Indies. Survivors include two sons, Clifford Billings of Jamaica, West Indies and Vincent Williams of Newburgh; three stepsons, Rodney and Terry Johnson and Kevin Blanks, all of Newburgh; three daughters, Juliet Billings of Newburgh, Taslyn and Marica Billings, both of Jamaica, West Indies; one stepdaughter, Sabrina Johnson of Temple, Texas; seven brothers, Basao, Alfred, Ted, Patrick and Diddy Billings, all of Jamaica, West Indies, Lloyd and Samford Billings, both of England; five sisters, Lily, Kay and Rose Billings, Clarea Richard and Gerza Moore, all of Jamaica, West Indies; 20 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. EDWIN J. KLEIN JR.

Williamsburg, Va. - Edwin J. Klein Jr., a bank officer at Safra Bank, NY, NY, died Saturday, June 5, 2004 in Williamsburg, Va. He was 61. The son of the late Edwin J.R. Klein and Ann Crep Klein, he was born June 29, 1942 in New York City, N.Y. He was a bank officer at Safra National Bank, New York, N.Y. He served with the US Army in Alabama during the Vietnam Era. A family statement reads, "Brett and Courtney will always remember their beloved and thoughtful uncle and times spent together at their home in Gardiner and wonderful trips to his home in Long Island, N.Y. Ed, you will always remain in our hearts. Our memory of Ed will never be forgotten." Survivors include his brother Vincent and his wife Jacqueline Klein of Gardiner; nephew, Brett Klein of Boston, Mass.; niece, Courtney Klein of Gardiner; partner, Craig Alston of Williamsburg, Va.; aunt, Mary Tresnak of Wurtsboro; and uncle and aunt Clarence and M. MILDRED R. STEELE BRASWELL

Livingston Manor, N.Y. - Mildred R. Steel Braswell of Livingston Manor, NY, a chambermaid for the former Tanzman Hotel and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, June 10, 2004 in the Roscoe Community Nursing Home, Roscoe, NY. She was 96. The daughter of the late John and Mary Pellam Gorr, she was born June 20, 1907 in North Branch, NY. Mildred was a former member of the Livingston Manor United Methodist Church. She was known as Gramma and Aunt Mil to a great number of people and will be missed greatly by all. To know her was to surely love her. She is survived by a daughter, Marion Welton and her husband Charles of Cape Vincent, NY; two sons, Luther Steele and his wife Gen of Livingston Manor, NY and Robert Steele and his wife Sandy of Livingston Manor, NY; fourteen grandchildren; many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Theodore Steele in 1972 and later by James E. Braswell in 1997; two sons: Alfred "Doc" Steele and Raymond Steele and one daughter, Agnes Dreher. Newburgh, N.Y. - Elaine Hesse, retired Loan Officer for Fleet Bank in Newburgh, formerly employed by Key Bank and longtime area resident, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. She was 70. The daughter of the late Elias and Mary Alfieri Anastasis, she was born October 11, 1933 in Newburgh. She was an active member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Newburgh, singing in the church choir and active in the Ladies Club. Survivors include her son, Francis Hesse and his wife Amy of Los Angeles, Ca; daughters: Elian McCready and her husband Scott of Newburgh, Lia Steffy and her husband Benton of Newburgh and Angelyn Galati and her husband Gregg of Newburgh; grandchildren: Daemien Espindola, Aislynn Espindola, Conor McCready, J.B. Steffy, Ryan Steffy, Kyle Steffy, Jackson Galati, Sage Galati and Eric Hesse; and one great grandchild, Maya Espindola. HELEN E. STRATTON

Port Jervis, N.Y. - Helen E. Stratton, life-long resident of Port Jervis, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at Belle Reve, Milford, PA; this was a true celebration for Helen. She was 96. Born November 29, 1907 in Middletown, NY, she was the daughter of Oscar and Bertha Wallace Terhune. She is the widow of Clyde F. Stratton; they were married October 20, 1932. Mrs. Stratton was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church, Port Jervis; member St. Anne's Guild of the Church; St. Francis Hosp. Auxiliary and Century Club, member of the National AARP. The Stratton family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Hospice St. John of Pittston, PA for the loving care given to their mother. Survivors include one son, C. Fred Stratton and his wife Jean of Wolf Lake, Wurtsboro, NY; four daughters: Mary Gregory and her husband G. ALBERT "POPPY" JAMES NELSEN

Congers, N.Y. - Albert "Poppy" James Nelsen, a lifetime resident of Rockland County, died Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern. He was 83. Mr. Nelsen was born June 16, 1920 in Brooklyn to Albert Nelsen and Anna Markey. He graduated from the old Congers High School in 1938. From 1939 to 1942 he worked for Robert Gair Co. in Piermont as a printer. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving time as a radioman in Alaska and the Aleutian Islands during W.W. II. He was honorably discharged in November 1945. At this time he married the absolute love of his life, Mary, who was his caregiver and constant strength for 59 years. Albert went back to work at Robert Gair (Continental Can) after the war and became president of the printers union. In 1958 he was diagnosed with Polio, one of 15 cases in Rockland County that year. He went to college, received a degree with honors and went to work for the N.Y. State Tax Department in White Plains. His last employment before further disabilities forced him to retire was regional director of the N.Y.S. Lottery. Albert was our family's "Rock" and was always "UP" during all of his medical hardships. He is loved and will be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife, Mary, at home; son, Thomas J. Nelsen and his wife, Kathryn B., of Highland Mills; son, Robert B. Nelsen and his wife, Denna, of Bowling Green, Ky.; son, Albert J. Nelsen Jr. and his companion, Alice, of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; daughter, Pamela Nelsen Craigie and her husband, Kevin, of Flaggstaff, Ariz.; a brother, John and his wife, Loretta, of Siolneg; a sister, Jean and her husband, George Marsilio, of Florida; eight grandchildren, Kelly Nelsen Fosstveit, Thomas J. Nelsen Jr., Tara Bridget Nelsen, Alexandra Nelsen, Vannesa Nelsen, Rachael Craigie, Emily Craigie, and Benjamin Craigie; four great-grandchildren, Kelsey Nelsen Fosstveit, Erik Martin Fosstveit, Lans Patrick Fosstveit and Maura Gately Nelsen; and many nieces and nephews. Hershey, Pa. - Anna R. King, a resident of Hershey, Pa., died Thursday, June 10, 2004 in Pottsville, Pa. She was 87. The daughter of the late Robert and Anna Greiner Rosenberger, she was born on June 14, 1916 in Brooklyn. She moved to the Hershey area in 1981. Anna is survived by her son, Theodore Coccia and his wife, Linda, of Middletown; one granddaughter, Sabrina Coccia; one brother George Brust and his wife, Agnes, of Seldon, L.I.; and one sister, Catherine Brust of Bayside, Queens. DOMENIC F. VELLANTI

Milford, Pa. - Domenic F. Vellanti, 84, of Milford, Pa., died on Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Bon Secours Community Hospital, Port Jervis. He was born in Brooklyn on December 16, 1917 to Domenic and Frances (Jacona) Vellanti. He was married to Mary (Greenas) Vellanti on November 20, 1954. He was a retired laborer for the Department of Water Supply, Brooklyn. Mr. Vellanti was a WWII Army veteran and one of the last Pearl Harbor survivors, a member of Mt. Friends may call on Sunday, June 13, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Stroyan Funeral Home, 405 W. Harford St., Milford, Pa. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 14, 2004 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 111 E. High St., Milford, Pa. The Rev. Gerald Mullally will officiate. Burial will take place in The cemetery of The Resurrection, Staten Island.

JOSEPH C. SCHOONMAKER

Napanoch, N.Y. - Joseph C. Schoonmaker, 47, died June 10, 2004 at the home of his beloved sister, Lucy Goodchild in Wappingers Falls, N.Y. after a long illness. He was born September 13, 1956 in Ellenville, the son of the late Thelma Waruch Schoonmkaer and Carlton Schoonmaker. He was a graduate of Rondout Valley High School. He was involved in auto sound system installation in Kingston. He was an avid car enthusiast, camper and music lover. He was employed as a correction officer at Eastern Correctional Facility in Napanoch. Surviving, besides his father Carlton of Kerhonkson are a son, Justin Schoonmaker of Delanco, N.J.; two sisters, Carla Vel-MacLeod of Brooklyn, Lucy Ruhle-Goodchild of Wappingers Falls; a brother Thomas Schoonmaker of Sharon, Conn.; nieces Tanya Amato, Melissa MacLeod, Katharine Ruhle and nephew Kevin Ruhle; several grandnieces and grandnephews; aunts and uncles also survive. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday June 14 at the H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, Inc., 30 Forty Second St., Kerhonkson. The Rev. Arlene Dawber will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Bush cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
