SHIRLEY KNIFFEN

Newburgh, N.Y. - Shirley Kniffen of Newburgh, a lifelong area resident, and a homemaker, died June 11, 2004 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. She was 81. The daughter of the late Frank and Flora Smith McDermott, she was born March 17, 1923 in Newburgh. She was the widow of Joseph Kniffen who died August 23, 1994. She was a member of Gardnertown United Methodist Church. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Eleanor McDermott of Beacon; niece, Mary Anne Hunter of Beacon; nephew, Michael McDermott of Florida; great nieces and nephews; one great-great nephew; and many good friends. She was predeceased by one sister, Rose Reynolds and one brother Frank McDermott. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Gardnertown United Methodist Church, 1191 Union Ave., Newburgh. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 14 at 10 a.m. at the church with the Rev. John Capen officiating. Burial will be in Highland cemetery, Newburgh. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Gardnertown United Methodist Church, Organ Fund, 1191 Union Ave., Newburgh, NY 12550. Arrangements are by White & Venuto Funeral Home, Newburgh.

JEANNE M. LEE

New Windsor, N.Y. - Jeanne M. Lee, passed away on Thursday, June 10, 2004 in Highland Falls. She was 43. She was born on November 14, 1960 to Robert Keeler and Joan Masse in Brooklyn. She was married to Alan Lee. She was a former US Coast Guard, she helped children with rehabilitation programs in Massachusetts for 10 years, and worked for Aeroflex for 12 years. She is survived by her husband Alan Lee in New Windsor; her mother Joan Masse of Stony Point; her father Robert Keeler of Spring Hill, Fla. and step mother Rose Keeler of Spring Hill, Fla.; two stepsons, Matthew and Alex Lee of England; a god daughter Alana Rose Bosland of Cornwall; three sisters, Diane and Bruce Hanlon of Cornwall, Roseanne and Mike Roberts of Palm Beach, Fla. and Lisa Linarza of Spring Hill, Fla.; four brothers, Edward Keeler of Cornwall, Robert Keeler of Long Island, Kevin Keeler of Florida and James Keeler of Staten Island; and several nieces and nephews. Family will be present to receive friends and relatives on Sunday, June 13 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coloni Funeral Home, 3001 Rt 9 W, New Windsor. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 14 at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, New Windsor.

ROSE F. DAMIANO

New Windsor, N.Y. - Rose F. Damiano, a retired nurses aide for St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh for 20 years, passed away at home on June 11, 2004 with her family by her side. She was 93. She was born on March 9, 1911 in Newburgh to the late Dominick Moresco and Angelina Santorine. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at St. Luke's for 50 years, a volunteer for Sacred Heart Bingo for 50 years, a member of the Pastime Ministral Variety Show, she was inducted to the Hall of Fame Newburgh Softball, and she received the National Library of Poetry "Editor's Choice Award." She is survived by her daughter, Angelina F. Coloni of New Windsor; two brothers, Fred Moresco of Newburgh and Vincent Moresco of Newburgh; one sister Fannie Muratore of Newburgh; four grandchildren Richard Brian Coloni and wife Mary Kay, Gina Marie Coloni, Margaret "Mia-Rose" Coloni-Maeang, Paula Coloni; and five great-grandchildren, Tenni Fer, Traci and Dominick Coloni, Megan and Raymond Maeang; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, Adolph Moresco, George "Toppy" Moresco, Harry T. Moresco and Sam Moresco; two sisters, Mary "Chicky" Cubito and Jo-Marie Laratonda; one grandson, Raymond Coloni. The family will be present to receive friends and relatives on Sunday, June 13 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coloni Funeral Home, 3001 Rt 9W, New Windsor. Her funeral service will be held on Monday, June 14 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Newburgh. The burial will follow in Calvary cemetery in New Windsor in the family plot.

HELENE M. PERKINS

Laurelton, N.Y. and New Vernon, N.Y. - Helene M. Perkins of Laurelton and New Vernon, a 39-year area resident, and a homemaker, died Monday, June 7, 2004 in Laurelton. The daughter of Kenneth H. MacKay and Phyllis B. Everett MacKay, she was born February 23, 1929 in New York City. Helene was a graduate of Professional Children's School, New York City, where she served as secretary of her class and won the senior prize for excellence in French. She was a graduate of New York College of Music as a violin major and again as a piano major. She also studied at Radcliffe College, Hunter College, and the Metropolitan Opera School of Ballet. A violinist since the age of 3, she played in many orchestras and chamber groups including the National Orchestral Association, Young Peoples Opera, LaPuma Opera Company, Newport News Chamber Orchestra and the Norfolk Symphony. For many years she served as N.Y.S.S.M.A. Accompianist for Middletown School District. She enjoyed singing and sang solos in several area churches including the Shepherd's In, Otisville Community Church and the First Congregational Church. Survivors include her husband, James H. Perkins of Laurelton; and several cousins. She was predeceased by her son, Christopher H. Perkins; and brother, Christopher T. MacKay. There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 14 in the Pine Hill cemetery, Town of Wawayanda. The Rev. Steve Offringa will officiate. Interment will be in Pine Hill cemetery, Town of Wawayanda. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Cornelius, Dodd and Connell Funeral Home, Middletown.

ROBERT MICHAEL BIEBER

Montgomery, N.Y. - Robert M. Bieber, formerly of Harriman, N.Y., passed away peacefully at home with his wife and daughter by his side on Thursday, June 10, 2004. He was 90 years old. He was born in Quarryville, New York on September 15, 1913 to Mathilda Meyer Bieber and George Bieber. He was an office manager for Chester Valley Inc. for over 40 years. He served in the Army Air corps as an airplane mechanic during WWII. Survivors include his Wife Elizabeth (Viscardo) Bieber, one daughter, Patricia Misenti and her husband Robert of Montgomery, NY; three grandchildren, Scott Misenti and his wife Theresa of Austin, TX; Brian Misenti of Houston, TX; Beth D'Addio and her husband Michael of the town of Newburgh, NY. And one great-grandson, Hayden Nicholas of Austin, TX; one sister, Juliette Bieber of Florida; one brother Joseph Bieber & his wife Lorraine of Maine. Also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Josephine (Hawxhurst) Bieber; his daughter Mary Bieber; two sisters, Tillie Brock and Catherine Simins and two brothers George Bieber and Henry Bieber. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Montgomery, American Legion Post Harriman, NY and was an avid bowler. Visitation will be Sunday, June 13 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden. A funeral mass will be Monday, June 14 10:30 am at St. Mary's Church, 89 Union St., Montgomery. Fr. Joseph D. Sullivan will officiate. Burial will be in St. Anastasia cemetery in Harriman. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of ones choice. MILDRED R. STEELE BRASWELL

Livingston Manor, N.Y. - Mildred R. Steel Braswell of Livingston Manor, NY, a chambermaid for the former Tanzman Hotel and a lifelong area resident, died Thursday, June 10, 2004 in the Roscoe Community Nursing Home, Roscoe, NY. She was 96. The daughter of the late John and Mary Pellam Gorr, she was born June 20, 1907 in North Branch, NY. Mildred was a former member of the Livingston Manor United Methodist Church. She was known as Gramma and Aunt Mil to a great number of people and will be missed greatly by all. To know her was to surely love her. She is survived by a daughter, Marion Welton and her husband Charles of Cape Vincent, NY; two sons, Luther Steele and his wife Gen of Livingston Manor, NY and Robert Steele and his wife Sandy of Livingston Manor, NY; fourteen grandchildren; many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Theodore Steele in 1972 and later by James E. Braswell in 1997; two sons: Alfred "Doc" Steele and Raymond Steele and one daughter, Agnes Dreher. Visitation will be Friday, today, June 11, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Her grandson, The Rev. Duane Steele will officiate. RICHARD E. MAI

Westfall Township, Pa. - Richard E. Mai, of Westfall Township, Pa., a retired machinist at Kolmar Labs and 60-year resident of the area, died Friday, June 11, 2004 at home. He was 81. He was born January 10, 1923 in Englewood, N.J., the son of the late Paul L. and Martha Anna Sonntag Mai. He was a member of the Matamoras United Methodist Church and Westfall Fire Dept. where he served as 2nd assistant in 1969. He was president of the Milford Midget League 1969-1970 and was an umpire for the league in 1970. He was also a member of the Lenape Ledges Bowman Club. An Army veteran of WW II, he received several medals, including the WW II Victory Medal, American Service Medal, Asiatic- Pacific Service Medal and Philippines Liberation Ribbon with one star, Dick was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was also an avid golfer and outdoorsman. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Lois Williams Mai at home; son, Richard P. Mai and wife Lori of Westfall Township, Pa.; daughter, Linda Barnes and husband Neil of Westfall Township, Pa.; brother Paul Mai and wife Shirley of Merrimack, N.H.; sister, Marion Ayers of Milford, Pa.; granddaughters Jen, Kim and Amanda Mai all of Westfall Township, Pa.; grandson, Richard L. Mai of Westfall Township, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home, 100 E. JEANETTE ANNETTE SHAFFER

Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y. - Jeanette Annette Shaffer, an administrative assistant with the Jogues retreat Center in Cornwall-on-Hudson, died June 10, 2004 at home surrounded by her family. She was 65. The daughter of Arthur Call and Clara Barley Call, she was born April 23, 1929 in Newburgh. A family statement reads, "Her daughters lovingly cared for her throughout her illness, knowing they could not give back as much as she gave to them. Some of her last words were 'I have so much to give.' Her generosity and love were precious gifts to all who knew her. (At Jogues Retreat, they always said 'ask Jeanette.') The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the loving and compassionate care given to her by Hospice and the Cornwall Hospital." Survivors include her husband, Henry Shaffer at home; five daughters, Darlene Shaffer-McConkey, Lori Shaffer, Terri Milliken and husband Barry all of Cornwall- on-Hudson, Cindy Valiceti and husband Anthony of Cornwall, Tracy Shaffer and companion Michael Gessel of Cornwall-on- Hudson; two brothers, Henry Call of Sussex, N.J. and Clarence Call of Plattsburgh; two sisters, Harriet Worrell and husband Harry of Tampa, Fla., Margaret Burger and companion Russell of Walden; eight grandchildren, Michael Milliken and wife Alicia, Jennifer McCormick and husband Joseph, Amanda Milliken, Matthew Milliken, Joel McConkey, Brain Shaffer, Ashley Knaggs, John Knaggs; three great-grandchildren, Joshua Milliken, Dylan McCormick, Alaina Jeanette McCormick. KATHERINE "KAY" GORMAN

Warwick, N.Y. - Katherine "Kay" Gorman of Warwick, a 6-year resident at Mt. Alverno Adult Center, died Thursday, June 10, 2004 at Schevier Pavilion. She was 87. The daughter of John and Mary Mauro, she was born on April 8, 1917 in Spring Valley. She married George Gorman and they had a daughter, Judith Mary. She was very involved with St. Joseph's parish and school. She was a Brownie leader and cafeteria secretary, then president. She was a beautician and later, the owner of Gorman's Inn, a very popular Tavern and Restaurant in Spring Valley. She loved gardening and had her own greenhouses filled with prize-winning orchids, she made orchid corsages for all her friends. She was very active in charity work with Helen Hayes and Mrs. Joseph St. Lawrence. She helped raise money for medical equipment, the Cobalt Machine for Cancer for Good Samaritan Hospital. In 1978, she and her companion bought an estate in Slate Hill which was named "Kay's Acres". When the property she owned across the street was developed, the street was named after her. While living at Mt. Alverno, she was elected council president and has been for the last 5 years. Among some of her guest speakers at the monthly council meetings were our Mayor, Councilman, Assemblyman and Orange County District Attorneys. She is survived by her granddaughter, Yvonne DiDio of New Windsor; her niece, Edith R. Lifrieri of Wakefield, Rhode Island; her grand niece, Linda Mullins of Monroe; her great granddaughters, Kathleen Durma of Newburgh and Melissa Navitisky of Ellenville; as well as many cousins in Rockland County. She was predeceased by her husband, George Gorman; her companion, John A. Foley; her daughter, Judy Brady; and her grandson, George Brady. Visitation hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 13, 2004 at the Strong-Basile Funeral Home, 75 Main Street, Warwick. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 14, 2004 at St. Francis Chapel at the Mt. Alverno Adult Center. Burial will be in the family plot at St. Anthony cemetery in Nanuet. DR. DAVID J. MESSINEO

Shohola, PA - Dr. David J. Messineo, 45, of Twin Lakes, Shohola, PA, died at his home unexpectedly on Friday, June 11, 2004. Dr. Messineo was the Principle Organist at Princeton University, Princeton, NJ and a member of the American Guild of Organists. David was born in Hackensack, NJ on August 14, 1958 to Joseph and Emilie (Shadel) Messineo. Survivors include: his maternal grandmother, Emilie Shadel of Milford, PA; his mother and step-father, Raymond and Emilie Shadel-Weeks of Milford, PA; his father and step-mother, Joseph and Pat Messineo of Twin Lakes, PA; one brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Theresa Messineo of Glen Ridge, NJ; two nephews: Joseph and Thomas Messineo of Glen Ridge, NJ; one aunt Linda Shadel of Wall, NJ and one uncle William Shadel of West Paterson, NJ. ANTONIO J. MORALES SR.

Bloomingburg, N.Y. - Antonio J. Morales Sr. of Bloomingburg, retired from the Ford Motor Co., entered into eternal peace on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at ORMC Horton Campus, Middletown. He was 74. The son of the late Amalia Morales, he was born February 6, 1930 in PenueLas, Puerto Rico. He came to the United States at the age of 19. He was a loyal and dedicated lifelong fan of the NY Yankees. He is the husband of JoAnne Millsaps Morales. Survivors include his wife JoAnne Morales at home; sons: Antonio Morales Jr of Newburgh, Anibal Morales of Spring Hill, FL and Michael Morales of Bloomingburg; brother, Javier Toucet of Texas; sister, Virgenmina (Irma) Morales of Puerto Rico; grandchildren: Antonio III, Nicole, Jason, Renee and Michael Antonio Morales; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by a son Miguel and a brother Luis Anibal Morales. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY. Harriman, N.Y. - Irene Fowdem, a homemaker and 19 year area resident, died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Arden Hill Campus, Goshen, NY. She was 85. Born March 26, 1919 in New York City, NY, she was the daughter of David Geller and Dora Steckler Geller, both deceased. She is the loving wife of Henry Fowdem. Survivors include her husband Mr. Henry Fowdem; beloved mother of Mrs. Barbara Zerner of Harriman and Mrs. Lynne Kirschhioffer of Monroe; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Bernice Weinberger. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. in Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush, Inc. MARTHA (FAMIGLIETTI) DUFFY

Middletown, N.Y. - Martha (Martie) F. Duffy, a longtime area resident and a retired teacher, died Saturday, June 12, 2004 at St. Joseph's Medical Center, Yonkers, NY. She was 57 years old. The daughter of the late Ralph and Ruth George McCool, Martha was born on February 12, 1947 in Binghamton, NY. In 1964 Martie graduated from Ithaca College with her B.A. in education, and afterwards received her Masters Degree. She moved to Middletown and was a music teacher for Chester High School until her retirement. On July 20, 1996, Martie married John Duffy and lived part-time in Ft. McCoy, FL. A family statement reads: "Martie lived life to the fullest. She loved to ride motorcycles with her husband and was also a member of the U.S. International Skeet Team in 1998. She flew airplanes, rode quads through the woods, was great with a camera and was dedicated to animal rescue in Florida, where she was on the board of directors at Animal People, an animal rescue shelter in Ft. McCoy. Martie was born to teach, loved her family and her grandchildren especially". Martha is survived by her husband John and one son John C. Duffy and his wife Carel of Middletown; one daughter, JoAnn Mercurio and her husband Michael of Massapequa, NY and four grandchildren, Sara, Meghan, Ava and Samantha. Family and friends may visit on Monday, June 14, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm at Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc., 130 Highland Avenue, Middletown, where a Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held at 8pm, Fr. Warwick, N.Y. - Rose Famulari, 75, of Warwick, N.Y., formerly of Nanuet, passed away June 12, 2004 at Horton Medical Center. The daughter of the late Louis and Emma Lester DiLorenzo, she was born January 13, 1929 in New York City. She was the widow of Dominic Famulari. Mrs. Famulari was a retired County Clerk for Rockland County, she was Past President of the Rockland County Republican Club and a Congressional Aid for Ben Gilman. She is survived by her daughter Diane Mann of Warwick and Lucille Borden of Pomono, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at the Lazear-Smith Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Stephens Church, Warwick. Interment will be in Florida National cemetery, Bushnell, FL. Arrangements by Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, NY.

WILLARD G. WEYGANT JR.

Newburgh, N.Y. - Willard G. Weygant Jr., of Newburgh, a long time area resident, entered into rest Saturday, June 12, 2004 in St. Luke's Hospital, Newburgh. He was 38. The son of Margaret Barnes Weygant and the late Willard G. Weygant, he was born April 22, 1966 in Suffern. Mr. Weygant was an employee for Qualamar Corp. in Newburgh. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and boater who enjoyed spending time on the river. He will be remembered as a caring and loving individual, and will be dearly missed. Survivors include his mother, Margaret Barnes Weygant of Wallkill; his fianc and high school sweetheart, Wanda Doty, at home; his children, Willard B. Weygant and Laura Marie Weygant, both at home; five sisters, Geraldine Weygant of Slate Hill, Margaret Copp of Walden, Sandra Weygant of Maybrook, Rose Weygant of Wallkill and Lori Weygant of Wurtsboro; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Willard G. Weygant and his daughter, Melissa Sue Weygant. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, June 15 at the Brooks-DiDonato Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16 at the funeral home. Cremation will be in Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh, with burial of ashes in Wallkill Valley cemetery, Walden. ANNE BIERONSKI

Accord, N.Y. - Anne Bieronski, 84, of Accord, died Saturday, June 12, 2004 at Benedictine Hospital. She was born June 7, 1920 in Ringwood, N.J., the daughter of the late Ivan and Catherine Iaromsewich. She was married to the late Louis J. Bieronski Sr., who predeceased her in 1992. Surviving are Louis J. Bieronski Jr., and his wife, Pamela, of Accord; two granddaughters, Luann Bieronski of Fort Montgomery and Tanya Cutaia and her husband, Christopher, of Fort Montgomery; a great-granddaughter, Gwen Cutaia; nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her daughter, Kathleen Ann Hulme. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at Pine Bush cemetery, Kerhonkson. Arrangements by H.B. MARY F. AFFUSO

Marlboro, N.Y. - Mary F. Affuso, a homemaker and long-time area resident, died June 14, 2004 at St. Francis Hospital, Poughkeepsie, NY. She was 87. Born January 22, 1917 in Astoria, Long Island, NY, she was the daughter of Frank Troncillito and Julia Salzano, both deceased. Mrs. Affuso was the widow of Joseph P. Affuso. Survivors include her brothers: Vincent Troncillito, Frank Troncillito and Thomas Troncillito, all of Marlboro; her sisters: Antoinette Cosman, Charlotte Troncillito and Beatrice Althiser, all of Marlboro, as well as several nieces and nephews and her companion, James Casaburo of Highland, NY. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph P. Affuso; one brother, Peter Troncillito and two sisters: Eleanor Crisci and Josephine Ciaccio. The funeral will be held at St. Mary's Church on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at 10 a.m. Father Edward Bader will officiate. Burial will take place in St. Mary's cemetery, Marlboro, NY. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 15, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DiDonato Funeral Home 1290, Rt 9W, Marlboro, N.Y. Arrangements by the DiDonato Funeral Service, Inc. 1290 Rt 9W P.m. WILLIAM J. COCKSHUTE

Napanoch, N.Y. - William J. Cockshute of Napanoch, a 30 year resident of the area and former employee of Hydro in Ellenville, died June 11, 2004 in Westchester Medical Center. He was 62. The son of William D. and Cora May Underwood Cockshute, Jr. he was born March 27, 1942 in Ossining. He served in the United States Marines during Viet Nam. Survivors include his wife Joanne Thomas Cockshute at home; three sons: William Cockshute of Neversink, John Thomas of Cornwall and Charles Cockshute of Kerhonkson; a daughter, Karen Cockshute of Napanoch; many grandchildren also survive. Cremation will be at the convenience of the family. Donations in his memory may be given to the Ellenville First Aid & Rescue Squad, Webster St., Ellenville, NY 12428. CRYSTAL LYNN KNAPP

Fayetteville, NC - Crystal Lynn Knapp, a long time area resident of Fayetteville, NC, died Thursday, June 10, 2004 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville, NC. She was 56. Born December 27, 1947 in Newburgh, NY, she was the daughter of Mildred Morrison and Homer White, both deceased. She is the wife of Richard A. Knapp, who survives at home. She was a devoted, loving mother and wife whose grandchildren filled her life. Mrs. Knapp was a homemaker and Volunteer at the Care Clinic in Fayetteville, NC. Survivors include: her children: Gary Ruff of Fayetteville, NC, Darrin Ruff of Fayetteville, NC, Kevin Ruff of Fayetteville, NC and William Knapp of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren: Dominick Ruff, Daniel Ruff, Kayla Ruff, Brittany Ruff, Alexis Ruff and Joshua Knapp; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother John White. Visting will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. under the direction of the Perrott-Berardinelli Home for Funerals, Inc. at the James F. Lulves Funeral Home, 9 Ave. A Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY, where services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery, New Windsor, NY. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Perrott-Berardinelli Home for Funerals, Inc.
