EMILIO A. BRANDI

Cortlandt Manor, N.Y. - Emilio A. Brandi, 77, of Cortlandt Manor, formerly of Bronx, NY, passed away on June 12, 2004 in him home surrounded by his family. Emilio was born on February 3, 1927 in Genova, Italy to Agostino Brandi and Angelo Scrivani. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lillian, in 1993. They were married for 43 years. Emilio is survived by his three children: Nanette Youngblood of Otisville, N.Y., Michele Brandi of Brooklyn, NY and Scott Brandi of Glens Falls, NY. He was blessed with six grandchildren. His two brothers Gene and Joe and his sister Flora Casazza predeceased him. He served in the 88th Infantry Division in WWII in Italy. Emilio worked for 36 years with the NYC Transit Authority and retired as supervisor in 1984. Emilio lived to spend time at home working on his property and swimming in his pool. He enjoyed his neighbors and friends and valued his Italian Heritage. Interment Tuesday, June 15, 2004, Mt. Hope cemetery. Clark Funeral Home, Inc., 2104 Saw Mil River, Yorktown Heights, NY.

GEORGE C. DUFFY

Fair Lawn, NJ - George C. Duffy of Fair Lawn, died June 11, 2004 at him home in Fair Lawn, after a long illness. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 20, 1923. Mr. Duffy was a WWII Veteran, who served the Pacific Theater. He was an electronic technician retiring from Bendix Corp. in 1986 after 32 years. While at Bendix he participated in the production of the guidance systems used in the NASA space program. George was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 281, Fair Lawn, NJ. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marguerite (nee Spinelli) Duffy; his children: daughter, Deborah Backle of Larkspur, CO; son, George J. Duffy of Cambria, CA, daughter, Mary Ann Flatley of Warwick, NY, daughter, Marguerite D. Duffy of Clifton, NY, son, John J. Duffy of Rockaway, NJ and son, James A. Duffy of Fair Lawn, NJ; sister, Mary Stalb of Danbury, CT and eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by son, Stacy Duffy in 2004. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, June 17, 2004 at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony R.C. Church, 276 Diamond Bridge Ave., Hawthorne, NJ. Interment will be in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus, NJ. Visiting will be Wednesday, June 16, 2004 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Vander Plaat Colonial Home, 13-31 Saddle River Road in Fair Lawn.

JAVIER RAMOS

Plattekill, N.Y. - Javier Ramos, of Plattekill, a former furniture maker in Brooklyn and long time area resident, entered into rest Saturday, June 12, 2004 at home. He was 79. Son of the late Mr. Ramos and Maria Correa, Javier was born March 14, 1925 in Puerto Rico. Survivors include his wife, Esther Colon Ramos, at home; stepdaughter Madeline Gonzalez and her husband Frank of Long Island; brother, Raul Mora of Pa; and four grandchildren: Madeline, Esther, Amparo and Franscine Gonzalez. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., June 14 at the Brooks-DiDonato Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 15, at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Plattekill. Burial will follow in St. Charles cemetery, Gardiner.

RUTH SMITH

Smithville Flats, N.Y. - Ruth Smith, 81, died June 11, 2004 at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich. She was born April 9, 1929 in Ellenville, the daughter of the late Ralph and Jennie Smith. She was married to the late William Smith who predeceased her in 1992. She was a former member of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Napanoch. Surviving are two sons: William Smith and his wife Colleen of Clovis, N.M. and Ernest Smith and his wife Kathy of Smithville Flats; three daughters: Vivian Mahoney and her husband John of Gatlinburg, TN, Jane Smith and her husband Larry of Napanoch and Marion Coppola of Whitestone, N.Y.; twenty seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. She was predeceased by three sisters and one brother. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday June 15, 2004 at H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, Inc. 30 Forty Second St., Kerhonkson. Burial will be in Cherrytown cemetery. Family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, Kerhonkson.

WILLIAM JOSEPH POWELL

Ferndale, N.Y. - William Joseph Powell, formerly of Maspeth, N.Y., died June 10, 2004 in Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, N.Y. He was 89. He was born on September 2, 1914 to William and Jane (Eddington) Powell in Brooklyn, N.Y. He is survived by three sons: William R. Powell and his wife Barbara of Bellport, NY; Roger J. Powell and his wife Sharon of East Islip, NY and Dennis D. Powell and his wife Suzanne of Largo, FL; four daughters: Elaine M. Warren of Durham, NC, Patricia F. McCarthy of Cooperstown, NY, Carol A. Powell of Roswell, NM and Theresa Santoro and her husband Vincent of Ferndale, NY; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Powell of Ridgewood, NY; 25 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; two cousins and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Josephine Margaret (Weber) Powell, his beloved son, Thomas Joseph Powell and his beloved grandson, David James Warren. Family will be present to receive friends and relatives on Sunday, June 13th from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Werst Funeral Home, 71-41 Cooper Ave., Glendale, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 14th, 9:14 a.m. at St. Matthias Church, 58-15 Catalpa Ave., Glendale, NY. with Father Philip Pizzo officiating. Burial will follow in Lutheran All Faiths cemetery in Middle Village, N.Y. Arrangements were made by the director of Werst Funeral Home.

MARY HATALA

Formerly of Ellenville, N.Y. - Mary Hatala, 78, formerly of Ellenville, died in Daytona Beach, Fla. on May 24, 2004. She was born on July 20, 1925 in Garnerville, N.Y., the daughter of the late John and Theresa Kapshae Hatala. She served as an Army Nurse during WW II attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. She was employed as a radiologist for the former Ellenville Hospital and until her Veterans/retirement with the Ellenville Medical Group. She was a communicant of Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Daytona Beach. Surviving is her dear companion Kathleen Fanning of Daytona Beach; two brothers John Hatala of Tampa, Fla. and Charles Hatala of Garnerville; several nieces and nephews also survived. She was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and George Hatala and sister Theresa Hiedcamp. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated June 17, 2004 at St. Mary's and St. Andrew R.C. Church at 10 a.m. The Rev. Leo Fanning will officiate. Inurnment will be in Fantinekill cemetery in Ellenville. Arrangements by H.B. Humiston Funeral Home.

GIOVANNI GINO COSTANZO

Milton, N.Y. - Giovanni Gino Costanzo, a 44 year resident of Milton and Control at IBM Poughkeepsie Warehouse, died June 11, 2004. He was 75. The son of the late Michael Costanzo and Carmela Chirichella, he was born December 9, 1928 at Sala Consilino Province. He was the husband of Maria Castrataro. Mr. Costanzo was a member of Sons of Italy NP, Italian Center Mill Street Park, Lodge 238, Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife Maria Castrataro Costanzo; brother, Vincenzo Costanzo of Sal Consilina; sister, Josephine Vespoli Torino; cousins: Josephine Pape of Highland, Angelo Cavallo of Newburgh, Salvatore and Lucy Chirichella of Canada and Antonio and Josephina Chirichella of Canada, and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Friday at St. James Church at 11 a.m. with Father Fred Kempfirl officiating. Burial will take place in Italy. Vistitation will be Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the DiDonato Funeral Service, 1290 Rt 9W, Marlboro. Arrangements by The DiDonato Funeral Service, Inc. 1290 Rt 9W P.O. Box 537, Marlboro.

WILLIAM J. "BUDDY" MAXWELL

Thornwood, N.Y. - William J. "Buddy" Maxwell, a longtime resident of Thornwood, passed away quietly at home with his family close by. Born in Elmsford, N.Y. on May 18, 1923, he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Wehr Maxwell. He is also survived by his four children, James of Thornwood, John of Galway, N.Y., Jane of Sugar Loaf, N.Y. and Joan at the home address; and grandson Jay Maxwell of Thornwood. During WW II, he served in the 421st Rocket Battalion in the Pacific Theatre. He worked for many years as a land surveyor including such projects as the New York State Thruway, Route 17 and Robert Moses Power Project at Niagara Falls. Early in his career, he worked on surveying for the New York City Water Supply System. Reposing at Maher Funeral Home, visiting hours Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment immediately following at All Souls cemetery.

ELIZABETH A. "BABA" UHELSKY

Monroe, N.Y. - Elizabeth A. "Baba" Uhelsky, a homemaker and lifelong area resident, died Monday, June 14, 2004 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Cornwall. She was 89. The daughter of the late Joseph Billy and Susan Birish Billy, she was born April 19, 1915 in Tuxedo. She was the widow of Michael G. Uhelsky. She was a member of the Tuxedo Senior Citizens, Tuxedo. Survivors include her sons, John A. Uhelsky of Monroe, Joseph M. Uhelsky of Onchiota, N.Y.; daughter, Elizabeth T. Reynolds-Florom of Monroe; sister, Ann Durkin of Stony Point; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Michael J. Uhelsky. Friends may call at the Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Inc. Funeral Home, 117 Maple Ave., Monroe from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 17. Prayer services will be held Thursday evening in the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, June 18 at the Chapel of the Sacred Heart, Stage Road, Monroe. The Rev. HAROLD C. BROWN SR. "REV"

New Windsor, N.Y. - Harold C. Brown Sr. "Rev", a retired auto mechanic, United States Military Academy, West Point, died Saturday, June 12, 2004 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh Campus. He was 82. The son of the late James Madison Brown and Lula Kilgore Brown, he was born June 18, 1921 in Hampton, Va. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 36 years, Jill Scruggs Brown; two sons, Howard C. Brown Jr. of San Francisco, Calif., David Brown of Newburgh; one daughter, Lisa Brown Newman and husband Bobby of Newburgh; one sister, Margaret Brown Smith of Hampton, Va.; three grandchildren Celia Walker Oscar of Manhattan, Kans., Laquise and Imani Newman both of Woodbridge, N.Y.; one great-grandchild, Carrington Jai Walker of Manhattan, Kans.; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by four brothers, George, David, Lawrence, Homer Brown and sister, Louise Brown Summerville. Visitation will be held at Rhodes Funeral Home, 259 Walsh Ave., New Windsor on Wednesday, June 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. Rhodes Funeral Home, entrusted with professional arrangements.

JUNE KRAWCYK

Goshen, N.Y. - June Krawcyk, of Goshen, a retired employee of Avon, Middletown, entered into rest on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Arden Hill Campus, Goshen. She was 69. The daughter of the late Joseph and Hazel Drew Hunt, she was born on June 19, 1934 in Warwick. She was a member of the Goshen United Methodist Church and Goshen Senior Citizens. Survivors include her husband Richard Krawcyk at home; two stepchildren, Richard L. Vogel and Suzanne Rowe; and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday June 17 at the T.S. Purta Funeral Home, 22 Glenmere Ave., Florida, N.Y. The Rev. Virginia Hoch will officiate. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, June 16 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Warwick cemetery in Warwick. VIRGINIA K. BODNER

Yulan, N.Y. - Virginia K. Bodner, of Yulan, NY, a retired teacher with the Eldred School District and longtime resident of the area, died Monday, June 14, 2004 at Schervier Pavillion Nursing Home in Warwick, NY. She was 72. The daughter of William F. and Catherine Moroney Kille, she was born March 15, 1933 in Honesdale, PA. Virginia was a member of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Yulan, NY as well as an organist there for many years. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a teacher's organization. Virginia was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling to Florida. Survivors include three daughters: Kathleen Frazier of Warwick, NY; Christina Crandall of Latham, NY and Jackie Bodner of Keokuk, IA; two sons: Gregory Bodner of Endicott, NY and Jeff Bodner of Leonardtown, MD as well as six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Yulan, NY. The Rev. Anthony Moore will officiate. Burial will be in St. Francis cemetery, Narrowsburg, NY. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, NY.

MILDRED E. MULLIN

Walden, N.Y. - Mildred E. Mullin, a homemaker and 10 year resident of Walden, entered into rest on Sunday, June 13, 2004 at ORMC Horton Campus, Middletown, NY. She was 75. The daughter of Harry and Edith Allen Dowling, she was born November 18, 1928 in Yonkers, NY. She is the wife of Richard W. Mullin. Survivors include her husband Richard W. Mullin at home; one son, Richard W. Mullin, Jr., of Walden, NY; three daughters: Linda DuBois and her husband Frank of Cranford, NJ, Kathleen Harris and her husband, William of Walden, and Laurie Garcia and her husband Tito of Yonkers, NY; one brother, Robert Dowling of Walden, NY; six grandchildren: Michelle, Eric, Melanie and her husband Anthony Sindaco, Kayla, Richard and Erica; two great grandchildren: Katlin and Justin, as well as nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at 7 p.m. at the St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Walden, NY with Rev. Yesupatham Duraikannu officiating. Naples, Fla. - George A. Smith, age 72, of Naples, Florida, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at Hospice of Naples. Mr. Smith was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to John and Kathleen (Collins) Smith. He moved to Naples from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 1998. George graduated from Saint Patrick's High School in Newburgh, then served in the United States Air Force at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 38 years as a letter carrier in Newburgh, N.Y. He is survived by a his loving wife Frances; sons, James and his wife Suzanne of East Green Bush, N.Y., Marc and his wife Maryann of Beacon Falls, Conn.; daughter, Gaynell Trimmer and her husband Carl Mitchell of Fayetteville, N.C.; brothers, John J. Smith of Bonita Springs, Fla., William Smith of Crestview, Fla.; sisters, Mary Kathryn Weidkam of Wallkill, N.Y., Jean Marie Garzon of Newburgh, N.Y.; 5 granddaughters and 1 grandson; Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his grandson, Michael Francis Trimmer and brother, Robert Smith. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 19, 2004 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. KARIN MUSE

Warwick, N.Y. - Karin Muse, 57, a dedicated servant of her God Jehovah for over 45 years, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2004. She was a one year resident of Pottstown and a former resident of Warwick, NY for 25 years. She was born on June 21, 1946 to Jeanetta and Charles Messineo in Passaic General Hospital, Passaic, NJ. She was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and mother-in-law, who loved to spend time with her family, especially her granddaughter. Her joy and skill of quilting will always be remembered. She was a member of the Pottstown Coventry Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses until her death. She is survived by her four children: Robert Muse of Monocacy Station, PA, Melissa Bode and her husband William Bode of Bethpage, NY, Stephanie Takach and her husband Joshua Takach of Monocacy Station, PA and David Muse of Warwick, NY; granddaughter, Karissa Linnea Takach; parents: Jeanetta and Charles Messineo of Brownsburg, IN; sister, Charlotte Van Buiten and her husband John of Indianapolis, IN; and two nieces: Carla Kraus of Noblesville, IN and Jonelle Van Buiten of Indianapolis, IN; cousins: Madelynne Drake of Oakland, NJ and Barbara Bazalo of Newburgh, NY. MILDRED M. KURSA

Roscoe, N.Y. - Mildred M. Kursa of Roscoe, NY, a retired clerk at the Little Store in Roscoe and a long time area resident, died Sunday, June 13, 2004 in the Roscoe Community Nursing Home, Roscoe, NY. She was 77. The daughter of the late Robert A. and Lucy M. Smith Parker, she was born November 23, 1926 in Brass Castle County, NJ. Millie was a life member of the Roscoe-Rockland Vol. Ambulance Corp., a member of the Roscoe-Rockland Senior Citizens and a former member of the Co-op Extension. She is survived by her husband, Alfred W. Kursa, at home; a daughter, Linda Curtis of Sacramento, CA; a brother, Dale Parker and his wife Fran of Dumont, NJ; a sister, Virginia Fleming and her husband Romulus of Flemington, NY; two grandsons: Peter B. Curtis and Matthew B. Curtis. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Parker, Jr. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening (today) June 16, 2004 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave., Roscoe, NY. DONALD H. BUCKNER SR.

Woodridge, N.Y. - Donald H. Buckner Sr., of Woodridge, died on June 14, 2004 at home. He was 66. The son of James and Florence Buckner, he was born on October 6, 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland. Donald was predeceased by his wife, Doris Cleo Buckner. He served his country in the United States Army, he attended Services at the First Baptist Church in So. Fallsburg and was a retired employee of the Town of Fallsburg's Department of Water and Sewer where he worked for over 30 years, as well as being an avid sports fan. A Family Statement Read: "The memories we have of Donald will always remain dear in our hearts. He was an avid sports fan - baseball being his favorite. On any given day Donald could be seen doing what he enjoyed best; walking, wearing a baseball cap and greeting anyone he met with a "Hey, What's Up?" Donald always carried such a warm smile and everyone in the neighborhood, especially the children knew him as "Pop Pop." Survivors include his two daughters, Theresa Corley and her husband Edward; Stacey Buckner and her companion, Marcus; one son, Donald Buckner Jr. and his wife, Letise; one sister, Florence Wilson, and her husband, Ellerson; nine grandchildren, Corey, Alaina, Justin, Shannon, Sean, Tyrell, Cherron, Darius, and Alicia, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 17 at the First Baptist Church in So. Fallsburg, Main Street, from 12 to 2 p.m Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 17 at 2 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Anthony Black, officiating. Interment will follow at the Rock Ridge cemetery in Monticello. Arrangements are under the direction of Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 Main Street, Woodbourne, NY 12788.
