Ashton G. Cleaver, 76, of Webster, formerly of Auburn, died Friday. Born in Lockport, he lived 25 years in West Seneca and 30 years in Auburn before moving to Webster in 1986. He retired in 1986 as a foreman after 40 years with NYSEG in Auburn and West Seneca. He was a former member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Auburn, and the Auburn Elks Club. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. His wife, the former Alice Schellenger, died in 1974.Survivors: Two daughters, Donna M. Hatch of Henrietta and Karen Wygal of Irondequoit; two sons, Gary D. of Auburn and Bruce S. of Webster; a sister, Frances Anderson of Orchard Park; a brother, Donald of Raleigh, N.C.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Farrell's Funeral Service. Burial, Fort Hill Cemetery. Calling hours, 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, 84 South St., Auburn. Contributions: Any local hospice.

Susie M. Coombe

Susie May Millier Coombe, 99, of Jordan Road, Skaneateles, died Thursday. She was born in Mottville. She was the oldest living member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, formerly Mottville Methodist Church, having joined in 1916. She was a 61-year member of Order of the Eastern Star Skaneateles/Morningside Chapters and the last surviving charter member of the Mottville Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Her husband of 71 years, Willis J., died in 1992.Survivors: A son, Ronald W. of Skaneateles. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday in Burrows Memorial Chapel, Lakeview Cemetery, Skaneateles. No calling hours. W. Howard Cowan

W. Howard Cowan, 94, of Camillus died Thursday at Van Duyn Home & Hospital. Born in Hobart, he received a bachelor's degree from Colgate University in 1930 and a master's degree from Syracuse University in 1936. He was an educator for 36 years. He retired in 1969 after five years as a guidance counselor at West Genesee Senior High School, was a social studies teacher 16 years at Solvay High School and taught at North Junior High School, Watertown. He also operated a day camp in Watertown for 10 years. He was a member of Sigma Nu.Survivors: His wife of 65 years, the former Isabelle Bingham; three daughters, Judith C. Chaimson of Spotsylvania, Va., Polly C. Little of Newton, Pa., and Sarah E. Cowan of New York City; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild. Services: Noon Tuesday in Camillus First United Methodist Church. Burial, Maplewood Cemetery, Camillus. A reception in the church's fellowship hall will follow the service. B.L. Eva M. Besig Curtis, 82, of Baldwinsville died Friday. Born in Syracuse, she lived 48 years in Baldwinsville. She retired in 1978 after 29 years as an inspector at Rollway Bearing. Ines Chivino Ganio, 98, of Camillus died Tuesday. Born in Lyon, France, she lived in Turin, Italy, and New York City before moving to Camillus in 1976. She was a seamstress in New York City for more than 30 years. She was a former member of a senior citizens group in Italy. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church. Her husband, Lorenzo, died in 1976.Survivors: A daughter, Yvonne D'Amico of Camillus; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph's Church. Samuel G.  Johnson Sr.

Samuel G.  Johnson Sr., 70, of 6497 Randall Road, DeWitt, died Thursday. Born in Adah, Pa., he lived most of his life in Camillus before moving to DeWitt in 1996. He graduated from Syracuse University. He retired in 2000 as district manager for Blaw Knox Inc., Mattoon, Ill., and previously worked 20 years for Syracuse Supply. He was a member of the Lettermen's Club and the Varsity Club at Syracuse University. He was an Army veteran.Survivors: His wife, the former Eleanor Troxell; three daughters, Jane McHale of Los Angeles, Helen  Johnson of Camillus and Judy Soper of Fresno,  Calif.; three sons, Sam Jr. of Mahwah, N.J., Paul of  Texas and Robert of Camillus; a stepdaughter, Maria Matthews of DeWitt; three sisters, Kathy Cohen and Sara Jean Rukus, both of Uniontown, Pa., and Joyce Dranbauer of Baltimore; a brother, Frank of Uniontown; 14 grandchildren. He was in the petroleum industry more than 35 years, retiring as division manager for Sun Oil Co. and previously working for Atlantic Richfield. Gertrude Mary Coughlin Osborne, 87, of West Genesee Street Road, Skaneateles, died Friday. Born in Syracuse, she graduated from Most Holy Rosary High School and attended Syracuse University. In 1936, she won the Central New York Singles Women's Tennis Championship. For nearly 50 years, she was a communicant of St. Mary's of the Lake Church, Skaneateles, where she was a member of the choir. She was a 30-year member of the Crazy Eights Tennis Group and a member of the Syracuse Breast Cancer Survivors Group.Survivors: Her husband of 61 years, William W. Sr.; a daughter, Catherine Osborne Thurston of Savoy, Ill.; two sons, William W. He graduated in 1954 from Roosevelt High School, Hyde Park, and in 1958 from Pratt Institute of Technology, Brooklyn. He retired in 2000 after 20 years as advertising manager for Oswego County Weeklies, Mexico, and was art director of the West Point Alumni Magazine. He had worked at Arax Photographic Studio, Poughkeepsie. He was a former member and officer of the Roosevelt and Pleasant Valley volunteer fire departments.Survivors: His wife, the former Janice Crusius; a daughter, Kristina Hefti of Mexico; two sons, Douglas of Mannsville and Andrew of Pulaski; six grandchildren.
