EDMOND F. SIEWERD

Port Jervis, N.Y. - Edmond F. Siewerd, a retired Lic. Practical Nurse and life-long resident of Port Jervis, died Sunday, June 27, 2004 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, NY. He was 61. The son of the late Edward Siewerd and Regina Flynn Siewerd, he was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 14, 1943. Mr. Siewerd attended Drew United Methodist Church and was a volunteer for the Food Pantry of the church. Survivors include one brother, George Siewerd and his wife Debra of Long Beach, CA; his closest friends: Cheryl and Daniel Leonard of Port Jervis, NY and their children: Daniel Jr., Saverio, Maretta, Samantha, Sherrie and Tamara. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place at Mount Calvary cemetery, Butler, NJ. MURIEL G. MATTHEWS

Marlboro, N.Y. - Muriel G. Matthews, a housewife, and a resident of Marlboro/Milton for 70 years, died June 30, 2004 at Elante Nursing Home, Goshen. She was 90. The daughter of the late Charles Allaire and Mabel Rhode, she was born March 12, 1914 in Bayonne, N.J. She was the widow of Peter V. Matthews Sr; whom died October 18, 1983. Survivors include her son, Peter Matthews Jr. of Yonkers; daughters, Maryann Conde of New Paltz, Jean Woodward of Marlboro, and Linda Coupart of Marlboro; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Harry Allaire of Sedona, Ariz. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 2 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at The DiDonato Funeral Home, 1290 Rt 9W, Marlboro. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 3 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Rt 9W, Marlboro, with Father Edward Bader officiating. Burial will take place Saturday in St. Mary's cemetery, Marlboro. JOSEPH PENNINGS

Warwick, N.Y. - Joseph Pennings, 78, of Warwick, passed away June 30, 2004 at Schervier Pavilion, Warwick. The son of the late Simon and Marie Van Leeuwen Pennings, he was born February 27, 1926 in Noordwykerhout, Holland. Mr. Pennings was a member of St. Stephen's Church, Warwick, and the Knights of Columbus Chapter 4952. He was a retired dairy farmer and active in Meals on Wheels. He was a Dutch Army veteran serving in Indonesia. A family statement reads "Dad was a dedicated loving husband, father and Opa, who enjoyed his retirement, vacationing, golfing, working in his garden and spending time with his grandchildren." He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jacoba Van Duynhoven Pennings; four children, Simon Penning and his wife, Lisa, of Greenville, John Pennings and his wife, Rose, of Walden, Marie Ewanciw and her husband, Peter, of Greenville and Joseph Penning of Middletown; daughter-in-law, Karen; seven grandchildren, Lauren, Zachary, Rachel, Katie, Nicholas, Jared and Mark; sister, Joanna Vandenberg of Howell, Mich.; brothers, Jacob Penning of Milford, Pa., Cees Penning, William Pennings, Piet Pennings and Siem Pennings, all of Holland; and several nieces and nephews. CATHERINE "DOTTY" BLAUT

Barryville, N.Y. - Catherine "Dotty" Blaut, of Barryville, NY, a housewife and longtime resident of the area died Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, FL. She was 83. She was the daughter of Arthur Amrein and Edna Heley Amrein and the step daughter of Molley Humphrey Amrein. She was born September 21, 1920 in Passaic, NJ. She was married to the late Clarence Blaut Sr. Catherine was a member of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Yulan, NY. A family statement reads: "Nanni loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as her pug "Bozo". She loved to feed the deer, turkey and occasionally a bear. She enjoyed her friends and bowling. She is going to be missed by all that loved her." Survivors include three sons: Clarence "Sailor" Blaut Jr. and his wife Elaine of Barryville, Barry R. Blaut and his wife Joan of Barryville, and Dale Blaut and his wife Connie of Amarillo, TX; one sister, Gertrude Schneider of Sarasota, FL; one step-brother, Bill Humphrey; nine grandchildren: Kathleen, Bryan, Kristine, Cassie, Barry, Brandon, Keith, Karin and Stacie, also seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Kim Blaut and a sister, Edna May Pharo. HARRIET LEDINA

Rock Hill, N.Y. - Harriet Ledina of Rock Hill, New York passed away peacefully on June 30, 2004. The daughter of the late Samuel and Rose Jaffe Jarcho, Harriet was born on June 29, 1941 in the Bronx, New York and grew up in Waterbury, CT. She graduated from Crosby High School and Syracuse University School of Speech and Dramatic Arts and School of Education with degrees in Speech Pathology and Audiology and Education. She also pursued graduate studies at Hunter College in New York City. Harriet began her teaching career in elementary education at PS 130 in the South Bronx. She later taught at the Cooke and Rutherford Schools in Monticello for many years. After which she pursued a career in social services, working for the Sullivan County Department of Family Services as a foster care caseworker; an investigator in child protective services; and retiring as a supervisor in foster care and transportation services. She was the first Head Start teacher employed in the Sullivan County Head Start Program when it began in the 1960's. She was a member of Temple Sholom, the Landfield Avenue Synagogue and Hadassah. She is survived by her husband, Burton Ledina; two daughters: Michelle Kelson and her husband Zachary, and Andrea deLange and her husband David; one son, David (DJ) Ledina and his wife Pia; five grandchildren: Julie and Sarah deLange, Ronald Kelson and Ethan and Anika Ledina; nieces: Gayle Rose and her husband Paul, Shelley Fox and her husband Ben, and Lynn Jarcho; nephews: Larry and Scott Ledina; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Harriet and Berny Becker, and Susan and Michael Ledina; also a wide circle of cousins, extended family and dear friends. Harriet was predeceased by her parents, Samuel and Rose Jarcho, and her brother, David L. Jarcho. Funeral Services for Harriet will be held today, Friday, July 2, 2004 at 11am at the Joseph N. Garlick Funeral Home Inc. 388 (186) Broadway, Monticello, NY. Rabbi Ben Zion Chanowitz will officiate. Burial will be in the Landfield Ave cemetery Monticello. MRS. HELEN C. "NANNY" FLORKIEWICZ

Greenville Township, N.Y. - Mrs. Helen Caroline "Nanny" Florkiewicz of Greenville Township, NY entered through the Heavenly Gates on June 30th to be reunited with her loving husband of 53 years the late Theodore Florkiewicz for eternity. She was 78. She was the youngest of six children born August 29, 1925 in Republic, PA, the daughter of the late Albert and the late Stefania Fechek Wiecezak. She moved to Brooklyn, NY where she later met and married Theodore Florkiewicz. Together they built a house in Greenville to retire to. She was a Charter Member of Greenville VFW Memorial Post # 3175 Ladies Auxillary. Helen was a former employee of Andmore Sportswear. Helen was a Member of St. Mary's R.C. Church, Port Jervis. A family statement read: "Mom was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt. She was a strong woman. She never let things keep her down. The more that was put in her way the harder she tried. She taught us to never give up. She gave us strong morals and values to live by. She will be sadly missed but will live on forever in our hearts. Surviving are her daughter, Christine Cozik & Her husband Anton of Brooklyn, NY; son, Richard Florkiewicz & his wife Jean of Warwick, NY; daughter, Janet Gibbs & her Husband Jerry, of Greenville Township, NY; sister, Julia Moger of South Hackensack, NJ; 11 grandchidren: Laura, Sawyer, Garrett & Travis Cozik; Katie, Ryan, Erin & Steven Florkiewicz; Carla Zellmer & her husband Bryan; Theodore Gibbs & his Fiance Sarah Decker & Gerald Gibbs & his girlfriend Erica DiMarsico; 1 great grandson, Devin Alexander Zellmer. Rockland County, N.Y. - Albert Mazza was born in 1920, the son of Alphonse and Regina Mazza. Al was a self employed business man and a lifelong resident of Rockland County. Albert Mazza was the beloved husband of Lillian Lopez Mazza; father, friend and hero to Albert Michael, Lisa, Alison, Cathy, Christine and family; grandfather to Demitrianna, Craig, Ray, Robert, Griffin, Nicole, Vanessa and John; and great-grandfather to Ryan and Nicco. ANDREW MCGANN

New York City, N.Y. - Andrew McGann, a traditional Irish musician, and a resident of New York City, died on July 13, 2004. He was the beloved son of the late Andrew and Margaret (nee Dwyer) and he was predeceased by his wife, Marie (nee Murphy); son, Shane; and brother, John. He was the devoted husband of Pat (nee Collins); dear father of Mark, Kieran, Neal and Megan; cherished father-in-law of Eileen, Terry, and Debbie; beloved grandfather of Jennifer, Mariah, Colin, Shaun, Liam, Chelsea, Erin, Brian, Lindsay, Christopher and Kaitlyn; and is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. ALICE P. DUGAN-MUSILLO

Greenwood Lake, N.Y. - Alice P. Dugan-Musillo of Greenwood Lake, a homemaker and 35 year resident of the area, formerly of Manhattan, NY, died July 12, 2004 at St. Anthonys Community Hospital in Warwick. She was 69. The daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth McGoldrick Cunningham, she was born on March 4, 1935 in Manhattan, NY. She was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Church. Survivors include her children: Cornelious Dugan, Thomas Dugan, Patricia McQuade, Kevin Dugan and Richard Dugan. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren: Sean, Gregory, Jacqueline, Brian, Chrissy, Courtney, Lucia, Gianna and Nicholas. HELEN W. (SQUIRES) FINK

Liberty, N.Y. - Helen W. Fink of Liberty, formerly of Livingston Manor, died on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. She was 74. The daughter of Everett and Charlotte Gross Squires, she was born on August 25, 1929 in Peekville, NY. Helen was a member of the Livingston Manor Methodist Church and the Livingston Manor Fish & Game Club. Survivors include two sons: Scott and Floyd Fink both of Hancock, NY; five granddaughters; one grandson and one great grandchild. Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 17, 2004 from 11 to 1 PM at Herbert C. Bryant Funeral Home, 29 Pearl Street, Livingston Manor, NY. Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at the funeral home. Rev. Betty Beach will be officiating. Interment will be at the Beaverkill cemetery, Beaverikill, NY. IRENE ROTTER

North Port, FL - Irene Rotter, 102, of North Port, FL and formerly of Middletown, NY, died on Thursday, July 15, 2004 at Tandem Health Care of Port Charlotte, FL. She worked as a Psychiatric Aid at the Middletown State Hospital, Middletown, NY, until her retirement in 1967. She then became an active member of the Middletown Senior Citizen Group where she loved to play pinochle. Born August 25, 1901 in Brenzo, Czechoslovakia, she was the daughter of Samuel Golanecz and Anna Lepenyova. Irene married Stephen Rotter in 1920 and immigrated to the United States in 1928. Irene was predeceased by her husband, Stephen Rotter; her brother, Albert Golanec and her daughter, Mary Lukach. Survivors include her son, Robert Rotter of North Port, FL; son-in-law, Edward C. Lukach of Port Charlotte, FL; her sister, Margita Kubisova of Bratislava, Slovakian Republic; grandchildren: Irene Keyes of Hopewell Junction, NY; Edward W. Lukach of Middletown, NY, Tina Holt of Redlands, CA; Joy Rotter of Brunswick, GA; eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. There are no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Otisville cemetery.

SHIRLEY MAY SMITH MURPHY SCOTT

Newburgh, N.Y. - Shirley May Smith Murphy Scott, of Newburgh, a lifetime area resident, entered into rest Tuesday, July 13, 2004 in St. Luke's Hospital, Newburgh. She was 69. The daughter of John M. and Edna Brown Smith, she was born May 11, 1935 in Newburgh. She was married to the late William F. Murphy and the late Randolph L. Scott. Shirley worked as a school guard for the City of Newburgh School District, and a Bank Courier for Bank of New York. She was a parishioner of Gardnertown United Methodist Church in Newburgh. She is survived by her children: Adele Smith of Cornwall, Joan Heter of Houston, TX, Thomas Murphy of Modena, Randi Scott of Highland Falls and April Underwood of Atoka, TN; stepdaughters: Joyce Blass of Spencer, NY and Wilma Pettine of New Windsor; 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 16 at the Brooks-DiDonatio Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, NY. A Funeral Service will be offered at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 17 at Gardnertown United Methodist Church, Newburgh. Burial will follow in Woodlawn cemetery, New Windsor.

JOY LENORE VALENZA

Wallkill, N.Y. - Joy Lenore Valenza, a life long resident of the area and a homemaker, died July 14, 2004 at St. Lukes Hospital, Newburgh, NY. She was 61. The daughter of Clifford Graham and Eleanor Benedict, both deceased, she was born April 12, 1943. She is the wife of Frank P. Valenza. Joy and Frank married at St. Mary's Church, Newburgh, NY on August 21, 1965. They have been married for 38 years. Mrs. Valenza was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church and Catholic Daughters of America. Survivors include her husband, Frank P. Valenza at home; her son, Mark P. Valenza of Wallkill, NY; brother, Donald and Cathy Graham of Town of Newburgh; sisters: April Graham of Newburgh and Lynn Andersen of Florida. Also several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at Our Lady of Fatima, Saturday, July 17, 2004 at 10 a.m. Father John Jaume will officiate. Beacon, N.Y. - Mary Belle Wilkins, 86, 47 year resident of Beacon, NY and an HIP Technician- IBM Fishkill, NY, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at Victory Lake Nursing Center, Hyde Park, NY. Born May 1, 1918 in Brodnax, VA, she is the daughter of the late William Walker and Mary Dugger Walker. She was a member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church Wappingers Falls, NY. Survivors include one son, John Henry Wilkins, Jr. and wife Eleanor of Beacon, NY; Four daughters: Marie "Cooky" Milligan and husband Murray of Beacon, NY, Barbara Lamor and husband Rudalph and Deborah Wilkins Flippin and husband Paul both of Newburgh, NY, Shirley Wilkins of Brodnax, VA; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren. Also her best friend Marie Hayspell for more than 60 years. Several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, other relatives and many friends. She was predeceased by husband John Henry Wilkins; six brothers: John Aster Walker, William Stewart Walker, Ernest Lee Walker, Walter Jackson Walker, Eddie Randolph Walker, Alzie Francis Walker; four sisters: Agnes Bugg, Rebecca Evans, Virginia Jacobs, Marion Odell Winsette. Highland, N.Y. - Bettyann Winfield of Highland, NY, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 at Westchester Medical Center. She was 51. The daughter of Willard Winfield and the late Sylvia Smith Winfield, she was born on December 6, 1952 in Newburgh, NY. She is survived by her father, Willard Winfield and step-mother, Phyllis Winfield, both of Newburgh; one son, Howard Winfield and his wife Tina Casholle Winfield of Free Hold, NY; one daughter, Jeannie Terwilliger and her husband Henry Casholle of Highland, NY; five brothers, William Lowers and his wife Christine of Newburgh, Stanley Lowers of Middletown, NY, Harry Terwilliger of Newburgh, Paul Winfield of New Hampshire and Edward Windfield of Queens, NY; six sisters: Charlene Terwilliger of Buffalo, NY, Maryann Diviesti and her husband Harry of Highland, NY, Rose Sheehan and her husband Steven of Newburgh, Annie Winfield and Diane Anair, both of New Hampshire, Cindy Winfield of South Fallsburgh; six grandchildren: Howard, Scott, Thomas, Jennifer, Christopher, Dominique and many nieces and nephews. CECILIA M. RUIZ BAYONA

Middletown, N.Y. - Cecilia M. Ruiz Bayona of Middletown NY, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Tuesday July 13 in Warwick. She was 47. The daughter of Gladys Bayona and the late Reinaldo Ruiz, she was born on September 14, 1956 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Cecilia worked as a Corrections Officer at Goshen Secure Center in Goshen, NY. She was a friend of Bill W's. A family statement reads: "A mother of three by the age of 20, Cecilia was able to beat the odds and prosper through hardwork and determination. She was a longtime resident of Greenville, where she raised her three daughters for 20 years. She was funny, kind and loving. She adored her dog "Bebe" and enjoyed planting flowers and yard sales on the weekends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her." Cecilia is survived by her mother Gladys Bayona; her dog, "Bebe Myson Ruiz"; three daughters: Damaris C. Cardinal Ruiz, Lynette M. Barreras Ruiz and Audris Y. Mendez; two sisters: Gladys Ruiz and Maribel Bayona and two grandchildren: Devonna Danaen Barreras and Gavn Skylxr Werring Mendez. Montgomery, N.Y. - Daniel Schmitt MD of Montgomery, NY, formerly of Old Greenwich, CT, a retired physician, died July 13, 2004 at ORMC Horton Campus, Middletown, NY. He was 79. The son of Dr. R.L. and Ruth O'Brien Schmitt, he was born March 10, 1925 in Middletown, NY. He graduated from Columbia College and Columbia P & S Medical School. He interned and did residency at St. Luke's Hospital, N.Y.C. After being a practicing physician affiliated with Greenwich Hospital for 35 years, he retired 12 years ago and moved to the family farm in Montgomery, NY. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich, a former Member of the Riverside Yacht Club and former member of the Greenwich Medical Society. He served in the U.S. Navy as a pharmacist mate in the Pacific. His hobbies include sailing, skiing, fly fishing and building canoes. He is the husband of Patricia Anderson Schmitt. Survivors include his wife Patricia Schmitt of Montgomery; four sons: Peter Schmitt of Montgomery, Robert Schmitt and his wife Sonia of Greenwich, CT, Jon Schmitt and his wife Jackie of Norwalk, CT and Michael Schmitt of Wellsboro, PA; one daughter, Mary Jane Liu and her husband Tom of Westport, CT; one brother, Robert Schmitt of Silverthorne, CO; seven grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Memorial funeral service will be held on July 29, 2004 at 4 p.m. at First Congregational Church, Sound Beach Ave., Old Greenwich, Ct. Cremation will be in Cedar Hill Crematory, Newburgh. Memorial contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the American Diabetes Assoc. Arrangements were made by the Gridley-Horan Funeral Home, Inc., 39 Orchard St., Walden, NY.

RICHARD "RT" TRAVIS

Newburgh, N.Y. - Richard "R.T." Travis, of Newburgh, a lifetime area resident, entered into rest Wednesday, July 14, 2004 in Westchester Medical Center after a brief illness. He was 56. Son of the late John Henry and Lucy Cybert Travis, he was born June 1, 1948 in Middletown. Mr. Travis proudly served his country in the US Navy. Most recently he was Operations Manger for Cousin's Paintball in Plattekill for the past 15 years. Affectionately known as "RT", Richard gained great respect within the world of paintball sporting events. As Captain and Field General, he led teams to multiple world championships, titles, and numerous local tournament championships. He eventually became recognized as MVP of 2002 Skirmish USA in Pennsylvania. He was a former member of Teamster's Local #445, former member of the Newburgh Yacht Club and Newburgh Country Club, and was an avid golfer. Survivors include his wife, Anna H. McKnight Travis, at home; four children, Anthony DiViesti of Latham, Shirley DiViesti of Clarks Summit, PA, Debbie Flynn of Tucson, AZ, and Michael DiViesti of Newburgh; a brother, Les Ellis and his wife Marcy of Poughkeepsie; four grandchildren, Jerel and David DiViesti, Jonathan Dixon and Kelli Jo Flynn; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Ellis. The family will receive their friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 18 at the Brooks-DiDonato Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 19 at St. Patrick's Church, Newburgh. Burial will follow in Calvary cemetery, New Windsor. .
