ROSS HERBERT BUDDENHAGEN

Colonie, N.Y. - Ross Herbert Buddenhagen of Colonie, died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at the Inn of Community Hospice at St. Peter's Hospital after a brief illness. He was 62. He was born February 7, 1942 in Callicoon and was the son of the late Herbert and Kathleen Davenport Buddenhagen. Ross was a graduate of the Delaware Valley Central Schools and SUNY at Oneonta. He was a resident of Colonie since 1965 and began his teaching career that same year at Colonie Village School. His teaching career spanned 32 years in the South Colonie School District at Saddlewood, Sand Creek and Lisha Kill Schools. Ross was very active with the South Colonie Teachers Association where he held many offices, including Executive Committee and longtime negotiator. Ross was recognized as Teacher of the Year in 1985 and honored by Who's Who among American Teachers. He was a proud member of the Town of Colonie Zoning Board of Appeals and the town's Youth Advisory Board. Ross was former member of his hometown's Hortonville Volunteer Fire Dept. He was a longtime officer of the Midway Fire Department in Colonie serving in numerous capacities and offices. He was Chief of the Department District from 1975 through 1978. Ross was currently Commissioner with the Midway Fire District and past Commissioner of Stanford Heights Fire District. He was a member of the Albany County Recruitment and Retention Committee and Operations Car Officer for the town. He was a member of several local and State Fire District Associations, the Electric City Chorus and Tamarack Hunting Club in Callicoon. Ross enjoyed gardening, collecting fire memorabilia, and was an avid sport fan, especially of New York Giants football. He was a valuable trusted treasure to his community. Ross will always be remembered for his passion for the youth of Colonie, for his dedication and devotion to the Midway Fire District and his genuine and sincere desire to help others. He was a true mentor and father figure to many people in Colonie and beyond. Ross is survived by his best friend and true love, Kim Purdy of Colonie; he is the beloved brother of Mary Etta Hornicek and her husband, Charles, of Hortonville, Kathleen Moran and her husband, William, of Hortonville, Ginny Guglielmone and her husband, Tito, of Callicoon, and Daniel Buddenhagen and his wife, Jane, of Hortonville; he is also survived by two aunts, Mrs. Leona Buddenhagen and Mrs. Frances Buddenhagen, both of Hortonville; and many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his beloved feline friends, Max and D.C. Calling hours will be Friday, July 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155, south of Central Ave.). Funeral services with Departmental Honors will be Saturday morning, July 17 at 11 a.m. at the NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home. Calling hours will also be held on Sunday, July 18 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Callicoon. Firematic services will be at 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 19 at the Hortonville Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Allan Dampman and the Rev. Veronica Ostrowska officiating. Burial will be in the Hortonville cemetery, Hortonville. JOSEPH G. WEBERS

Middletown, N.Y. - Joseph G. Webers of Middletown, formerly of Pearl River, and New Port Richey, FL, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at his home. He was 81. Mr. Webers was born November 11, 1922 in Brooklyn to Anthony Webers and Agnes Cannon. Mr. Webers worked as a police officer for the New York City Police Dept. for 33 years before retiring in 1978 to New Port Richey, FL. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. He is survived by his children, Gerard M. Webers of Goshen, James A. Webers of Middletown, and JoAnn Webers of Middletown; and brother, Robert Webers; and four grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Theresa M. Webers. Visiting will be Friday, July 23 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc., Pearl River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 24 at St. Margaret's Roman Catholic Church, Pearl River. Cremation will be private.

RONALD JOHN LAKE JR.

Warwick, N.Y. - Ronald John Lake Jr. of Warwick, died July 20, 2004 at him home. He was 41. Born on May 19, 1963 in Middletown, NY, he was the son of Ronald Lake Sr. and Sharon Rich Lake. Mr. Lake was a Machinist and Designer with Equibal Co. in Unionville, N.Y. A family statement read: "A designer and builder he could fix anything. He loved nature and the wilderness. He helped everyone he came in contact with whether it be a friend or and animal in need." He is survived by his loving wife, Normajean Fusco Lake; three children: Ronald Arthur Lake, Kelly Lake and Kevin Lake; his mother and father; brother, Michael Lake; sisters: Sheri Lee and Kie Lake; his paternal grandfather, Henry Grusz Sr. and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday, July 23 at the Lazear-Smith Funeral Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick, NY. Services will be held at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Cremation will be private. JOSEPH A. ANGELONE

Highland Mills, N.Y. - Joseph A. Angelone, a retired head carpenter and builder for Mastic Tile in Newburgh, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital, Newburgh. He was 85. He was born to the late Ponfilo Angelone and the late Felicetta DeFelice on February 20, 1919 in Newburgh. He was very proud of his wife, Jenny, who was a realtor and broker in Highland Mills, he also built many important buildings in Westchester. Survivors include his wife, Jenny Angelone of Highland Mills; two brothers, Frank Angelone of Newburgh and Carmen Angelone of Milton; two sisters, Elaine Duda of Highland and Annie Halverson of Florida; and many nieces and nephews. The family will be present to receive friends and relatives on Friday, July 23 at Coloni Funeral Home, 3001 Rt. 9W, New Windsor from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Church, Newburgh, on Saturday, July 24 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary cemetery, New Windsor.

MARJORIE ROY

Newburgh, N.Y. - Marjorie Roy of Newburgh, NY, a retired Federal Employee of West Point, died July 20, 2004 at her residence. She was 84. Born March 9, 1920 in Newburgh, she was daughter of the Late John and Elizabeth Heeney. She was the wife of the late Lester Roy. Mrs. Roy was a member of St. Mary's Parish, the Newburgh Country Club, the Southern Duchess Country Club and the Lady Bachelor's Club. Survivors include one sister, Frances Guadagno of Florida, two nephews: John Jeeney and his wife Caren of Newburgh and Mike Guadagno of Florida; five great nieces: Lisa, Kristy, Jessica, Lauren and Jaclyn. ROSELIA R. HUERTA

Hollywood, FL - Roselia R. Huerta of Hollywood, FL, a former resident of Loch Sheldrake and Hurleyville, NY, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at her home. She was 84. The daughter of the late Luis and Josefa G. Pelaez Escalona, she was born August 30, 1919 in Campechuela, Cuba. Roselia had been a teacher with the Ellenville School system for over thirty years. She moved to Florida eight years ago. Survivors include a son, Julian B. Huerta and his wife Marlene of Fairbanks, Alaska; five sisters: Isabel Parra, Florangel Gonzalez, Edelmira Gutierrez, Maria Martinez and Blanca Bertot; a granddaughter, Nicole Persson and her husband Mark of San Rafael, CA; two great grandsons: Ian and Adam, also several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Julian F. Huerta in 1996 and her daughter Rosalia Walter in 1972. Visitation and services will be private. Monsignor Edward Straub will officiate. Burial will be in the Hurleyville cemetery, Hurleyville, NY. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

NELLIE CYPERT

Woodbourne, N.Y. - Nellie Cypert a lifetime resident of Woodbourne, died on Tuesday, July 21, 2004 at Catskill Regional Medical Center. She was 97. The daughter of John and Elizabeth Ertz Hodge, she was born on June 28, 1907 in Loch Sheldrake, New York. She was the widow of Daniel B. Cypert to whom she was married for 43 years when he passed away in 1970. Nellie was a devoted parishioner of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Woodbourne. Nellie was also one of the founders of the AARP in Grahamsville and helped organize it as well. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2004 at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, 396 Main Street, Woodbourne from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 23, 2004 at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Woodbourne at 10 a.m. Father John Lynch will officiate. JESSE "MIKE" BEEMER

Matamoras, Pa. - Jesse "Mike" Beemer, a retired carman for the Erie-Lackawana RR, Port Jervis and lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at the Ellen Memorial Home, Honesdale, Pa. He was 89. The son of the late John H. Beemer and Catherine E. Johnson Beemer, he was born July 31, 1915 in Mast Hope, Pa. He was a member of St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Matamoras, Pa.; a veteran of WW II, US Army; member of the Brotherhood of RR Carman. Survivors include his wife, Claire Bishop Beemer at home; one son, Michael Beemer and his wife Janet of Westminster, Colo.; one daughter, Claire Belcher of Montague, N.J.; five grandchildren, Julia Marie Hutchinson, James M. Beemer, Jon M. Beemer, Kevin M. Beemer, Elizabeth Ann Hawke; four great-grandchildren, Harris, Bennet, Justin and Grace; one nephew, Gene Lewis and his wife Sharon. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Lewis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 23 at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Matamoras, Pa. The Rev. GLADYS ELIZABETH McCULLOUGH

Lewisville, Texas - Gladys Elizabeth McCullough, beloved mother and nana, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on July 17, 2004 at the age of 87 in Lewisville, Texas. Gladys was born to William and Mathilda Heston on January 9, 1917 in Bellaire, Ohio. On December 22, 1934, she married Raymond Hyatt. Gladys was a bookkeeper for over thirty years in her family owned business, Hyatt's Body Shop in Port Jervis, NY, and retired from Kolmar Laboratories in 1982. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Raymond Hyatt, George McCullough, her four siblings, Jack, William, Eva, and Grace, and her parents. She is survived by one son, Gerald Hyatt and his wife, Elizabeth of Brooksville, FL, and two daughters; Sally Malzahn, and her husband Vince of Sparrowbush, NY, and Rae Riordan and her husband John of The Colony, TX. Her nine grandchildren: Gerry Ellen Force, Brett Hyatt, Andrew Hyatt, David Malzahn, Laurie Osowick, John Malzahn, Bill Malzahn, Amy Malecki, and Samantha Riordan. Her nineteen great-grandchildren: Shaun, Nicole, Ryan, Courtney, Blake, Kyle, Jessica, David, Mitchell, Emily, Thomas, Nicholas, Chelsea, Vinnie, Michael, Casey, Jacob, Allison, and Nicole. One great­great-grandchild, Shaun. Nanny will be remembered and deeply missed by those who love her dearly. Her ashes will rest in Rural Valley cemetery in Cuddebackeville, NY.

JAMES RAYFORD ARMSTRONG SR.

Newburgh, N.Y. - James Rayford Armstrong Sr., a 38-year resident of Newburgh, and a laborer for the United States Military Academy, West Point, died Saturday, July 17, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital, Newburgh. He was 50. The son of the late John Henry Armstrong and Luecressi Newkirk Armstrong, he was born July 2, 1954 in Clinton, N.C. Survivors include longtime companion, Nadine Johnson of Newburgh; four sons, James Junior Armstrong, Tishawn and Tishae Harris, all of Newburgh, Andrew Edwards of Albany; five sisters, Althea Williams and husband, Clarence, Melissa Armstrong and Yolanda Armstrong, all of Newburgh, Jackie Wilson of Florida, Marcella Washington and husband, Christopher, of Detroit, Mich; one brother, Willie Newkirk of Patterson, N.J.; one sister, Flora Armwood of Newburgh; 15 grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other relatives and many friends. He was predeceased by Reginald TroubleField Jr.; son, James Rayford Armstrong Jr.; daughter, Morticia Armstrong, and two brothers, John Henry and Oscar Lee Armstrong. ROBINETTA BERTHIAUME

Highland, N.Y. - Robinetta Berthiaume, accounting supervisor, Department of Social Services, Poughkeepsie where she worked for 20 years and four-year area resident, died July 20, 2004. She was 59. The daughter of Edwin T. Newman and Isabel Haicott, she was born March 4, 1945 in Ossining. She was fomerly of Beacon. Robinetta was a member of the Adirondack Mountain Club, for which she was an avid hiker. She was of the Roman Catholic Faith and a graduate of Dutchess Community College (1981). She married Don R. Berthiaume on December 9, 1962 in Irvington. Survivors include her husband of Beacon; three daughters, Leanne and Errol Foschini of New Windsor, Lori and Mark Sugg of Burke, N.Y., Linda and Kevin Crusie of Beacon; one son, Don R. Jr. and Cynthia Berthiaume; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Darlene and Carl Seemer of Yonkers, Sandra and Robert Dean of Croton-on-Hudson; four brothers, Lawrence and Fran Newman of Peekskill, Thomas and Mary Newman of Fishkill, James Newman of Buchanan, Daniel and Margaret Newman of Margaretville. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday at the Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Homes Inc., 1028 Main St., Fishkill. WILLIE JAMES PREVO

Beacon and Newburgh, N.Y. - Willie James Prevo, a resident of Beacon and Newburgh, and a retired laborer for Tuck Tape Industries, Middletown, died Friday, July 16, 2004 at Victory Lake Nursing Home, Hyde Park. He was 73. The son of the late Hardy Prevo Sr. and Alberta Prevo, he was born September 2, 1930 in Montgomery, Ala. He was a member of AME Zion Church where he served as a trustee and was a faithful member until the church closed in Beacon. He was also a member of AME Zion Church, Newburgh. Survivors include one sister; three brothers-in-law, the Rev. Eddie Blanch Moss and wife, Nora Moss and three children, Alberta, Patricia and Johnny, all of Montgomery, Ala., Stanley King of Newburgh, and Ashahed El Chaim of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Thompson of Beacon, Arlena King of Newburgh and Mattie Grant of Pleasant Valley; nephew, Marco Torrelli and wife, Janet, of Windsor, Conn.; niece, Mildred Grant of Sylvester, Ga. whom he called his children. An additional host of nieces and nephews who affectionately referred to him as "Uncle Willie" also survive him. He will be missed by a wide variety of relatives and friends throughout the Hudson Valley. He was predeceased by wife, Gerladine King. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 22 from 10 to 11 a.m. at AM Zion Church, 111 Washington St., Newburgh. Services will be held at 11 a.m. at the church. The Rev. ROSEANN CAMPAGNOLA

Monroe, N.Y. - Roseann Campagnola a Daycare Provider and a 5-year resident of Monroe died Sunday, July 18, 2004 at Orange Regional Medical Center at Arden Hill Campus, Goshen, New York. Roseann was 42 years of age. Roseann was the daughter of the late Sadie Carlson; Roseann was born December 05, 1961 in Queens, New York. Family statement read, Roseann was a beloved wife, adoring mother, cherished sister, a favorite niece, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, and friend. Her beloved husband Roger Campagnola and her adoring children Dean Nunez, Brittany Nunez and Autumn Campagnola of Monroe, NY and Daniel Campagnola of New Paltz survive Roseann. Three brothers John, Patrick and Brian Carlson, also survive Roseann. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and Thursday, July 22, 2004 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers 139 Stage Road, Monroe, New York 10950. Cornwall-On-Hudson, N.Y. - Charles Milich, of Cornwall-On-Hudson, retired Laborer for Local 754 Laborers Union, Newburgh, a lifelong area resident, a WWII Army Veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at the Cornwall Hospital. He was 84. The son of the late James and Josephine Zummo Milich, he was born February 24, 1920 in Cornwall-On-Hudson and was married to Mary Ellen Collins Milich. He was a member of St. Thomas of Canterbury Church and a member of Local 754 Laborers Union, Newburgh. Survivors include his widow, at home; two sons: Charles Milich Jr. and his wife Peggy of New Windsor, Dennis Milich and his wife Kathleen of Cornwall; a brother, Louis Milich and his wife Elizabeth of New Windsor; grandchildren, Kerry Natkiel and her husband Marc of New Windsor, Kristen Costain and her husband Kevin of New Windsor, Kasey Milich of New Windsor, Kate Milich of New Windsor and Daniel and Matthew Milich of Cornwall; great grandchildren: Sydney and Sarah Natkiel and Nicholas Vesely all of New Windsor, also several nieces and nephews. JOYCE M. MODESTO

Franklin, Ga. - Joyce M. Modesto, a homemaker, former resident of Monroe, died Friday, July 16, 2004 in Cottonwood, Ariz. She was 65. The daughter of the late of Lester Alexander and Edna Dagion Alexander, she was born October 2, 1938 in Goshen. A family statement reads, "Joyce was so much more than a few words can describe. She touched everyone's heart she knew by just being herself. She was a mother to all, not just her children. She will be sadly missed by everyone she touched. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and mostly a loving friend to all." AMY EILEEN DELAVALLE-WINTERS

Hopewell Junction, N.Y. - Amy Eileen DeLavalle-Winters, a loving and caring wife and mother, died Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie after a year and a half long battle with pancreatic cancer. Amy was born August 4, 1965 in Hudson, to Anthony DeLavalle and Nancy Goodman. She attended Coleman High School and was a graduate of Florida Dental College. A 20-year resident of Dutchess County, she had previously resided in Pompano Beach, Fla. and Ulster County. Amy was employed by Family Dental Center, Wappingers Falls for over 18 years as a dental assistant. She was a dedicated mother to her 12 year old son, Andrew and was a den mother for his cub scout troop, as well as an enthusiastic cheering section for his youth soccer, baseball and roller hockey teams. Amy is the beloved wife of Keith Winters whom she married on June 12, 1988 in Millbrook, and the loving mother of Andrew. She is also survived by her father, Anthony and his girlfriend, Gert Kaiser of Samsonville; her mother and stepfather, Nancy and Anthony Perry of Hallandale, Fla.; her brothers, John DeLavalle and his wife, Cynthia of Rock Tavern, and Jeffrey DeLavalle and his wife, Lisa, of Samsonville, as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, extended family, and countless friends. Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 23 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be at 12 p.m. with Cantor Rena Shapiro officiating. Burial will follow in the Fishkill Rural cemetery in Fishkill. Memorial donations may be made to the Dyson Center, Vassar Brothers Medical Center, 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

HOWARD ERNEST "SWAMPY" MANCE JR

Pine Bush, N.Y. - Howard E. Mance Jr., of Pine Bush, a WWII Veteran, retired farmer, teacher, and employee of the New York State Thruway, entered peacefully into his final rest on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at Orange Regional Medical Center's Horton Campus in Middletown. He was 80. The son of Howard E. Mance Sr. and Lovina Mance, he was born on April 4, 1924 in Pine Bush. He is survived by his loving wife Martha of Pine Bush; sons: Howard III of Pine Bush, David of Ballston Spa, NY, Paul of Hamburg, NY, James of Rome, NY and daughter Gail Mance-Rios of Barrington RI; brothers: Lester and Robert Sr. of Pine Bush; sisters: Gloria Wood, Constance Hornbeck and Grace Hlavacek of Pine Bush; grandsons: Howard IV of Colorado Springs, CO and Michael of Queens, NY; granddaughters: Martha Torres of Oklahoma City, OK., Katherine Johnson of Louisville, KY, Kathryn Higgins of Saratoga, N.Y., Elizabeth Mance and Jamie Mance of Rome, N.Y.; great-grandson, James Messenger of Oklahoma City, OK; and many nieces and nephews. Howard served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was highly decorated for flying over 70 combat missions as a gunner and bombardier in the B-26 medium-level bomber over the European Theater. After returning from England, he married Martha and they worked his dairy farm, first in Galeville, then in Pine Bush until 1953 when they moved upstate. They lived in Tribes Hill (Montgomery County) for many years while he continued his agricultural pursuits as a dealer for Surge Milking Machines and a cattle breeder for the New York State Artificial Breeders Co-OP. During the blizzard of '58, it was his wartime experience, coupled with his intimate knowledge who and where all the farm families were, that enable him to fly as a volunteer navigator with National Guard Helicopters delivering emergency supplies to many rural homes in the Montgomery and Fulton county areas. In the early 1960s, Howard began his twenty-year service with the New York State Thruway Authority, first as toll collector, then as a radio dispatcher and later as a heavy equipment operator in the maintenance division. In 1969 Howard moved the family back to the Pine Bush area where he was part owner/operator of the Colonial Inn 1776 in Dwarkill until the mid-1970's. During this period, he continued his education at New Paltz State Teachers, finally getting the teaching certificate and working also as an instructor in Building Maintenance for the New York State Department of Corrections at the Fishkill facility. Howard was an avid sportsman, a Charter Member of the Walker Valley Sportsmen's Association, and he especially loved fishing and hunting. He believed firmly in contributing to the community wherever he was: he was a volunteer firefighter and adult leader for many years in Tribes Hill, and an active member of the Town of Shawangunk Republican Committee. He was a Life Member of the VFW and the American Legion, and a member of the Moose and Redman Lodge organizations. A Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated at the Church of the Infant Savior, Pine Bush, at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 24, 2004, following a private family ceremony for interment in the family plot at the Walker Valley cemetery. The location for the reception will be announced after the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Walker Valley Sportmen's Association (Walker Valley, NY 12558) or to your local volunteer Fire or Ambulance company. Arrangements handled by DeWitt Funeral Home, 64 Center St., Pine Bush.
