June Kathryn Finkle
November 16, 2006
June Kathryn Finkle of Summitville, a homemaker and longtime resident of the area, died Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at the ORMC, Horton Campus in Middletown. She was 80.
The daughter of the late Harry E. Miller and Margaret Mitchell Miller, she was born May 27, 1926 in Ulster County, NY. She was the widow of Walter Loren Finkle who predeceased her August 1979.
Mrs. Finkle was a lifelong member of the Summitville Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. She also worked for DUSO Foods in Ellenville and was a member of the SUNY New Paltz Alumni Association.
She is survived by two daughters: Maureen Seitter & her husband Clifford of Summitville, and Judy Henderson of Vermont; one son: Walt Finkle & his wife Judy of Summitville; three grandchildren: Gregory Frost, Margaret Henderson & Katey Henderson; and two great grandchildren: Elizabeth & Caroline Frost.
She was also predeceased by her companion of 12 years: Paul McCall of Hudson, FL.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 25 at 10:00am at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Rev. Camille Regholec will officiate. Interment of her ashes will follow in the Fantinekill cemetery in Ellenville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 5005 LBJ Fwy., Ste. 250, Dallas, TX 75244

Kenneth Patrick Bastone
November 11, 2006
Kenneth Patrick Bastone of Monticello died unexpectedly in the Town of Thompson on Saturday, November 11, 2006 as a result of a motorcycle accident. He was 24.
The son of Dennis Joseph Bastone and Marilyn Somers Bastone, he was born February 22, 1982 in Port Jervis.
Employed as a heavy equipment mechanic for H.O. Penn in Bloomingburg, Kenny was a member of Operating Engineers Local 825. He also worked for Vino Restaurant in Monticello and was a former firefighter for the Monticello Fire Dept.
He is survived by his parents: Dennis & Marilyn Bastone of Monticello; a brother: Joseph Bastone & his wife Sharon of Greensboro, NC; a sister: Susan Bastone & her fiancé Isaac Williams of Washington, DC; his paternal grandparents: Frank & Jean Bastone of Monticello; a niece: Julia Bastone; his girlfriend: Ashley Bishop of Monticello; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 14 from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc., 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 15 at 10:00am at the funeral home with Fr. Robert Ginel officiating. Cremation will be held at the Cedar Hill Crematory in Newburgh.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.

Madeline V. Hanka
November 10, 2006
Madeline V. Hanka, 85, a resident of Rock Hill since 1980 and previously of LaGrange for 30 years, died on Friday, November 10, 2006 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Queens on January 11, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Oscar Low and Mabel Faustmann Low.
Mrs. Hanka worked in personnel for several companies in New York City and then devoted her time to being a wife, mother and homemaker. She was an accomplished seamstress, quilter and needle worker, and she loved sharing her talents by instructing others, especially children.
On May 23, 1943, Madeline married William B. Hanka who survives at home. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: Linda Freisitzer & her husband Norbert of Hyde Park, Bruce Hanka & his wife Catherine of Rhinebeck, and Craig Hanka & his wife Santha Cooke of Salt Point; a stepson: Ralph Grieco & his wife Kristy of Atlanta, GA; two granddaughters: Elizabeth & Rachel Hanka; a niece; several nephews; and two step grandchildren.
She was predeceased by two brothers: Clifford & Wilbur Low; and a sister: Dorothy Low.
Madeline was an active member of the Freedom Plains Presbyterian Church for 30 years and a member of the First Church of Monticello, Presbyterian since 1981; she belonged to Home Extension for over 50 years and to the Embroider’s Guild since 1979. Madeline had also served as Girl Scout leader for 15 years and with her husband Bill, had been Youth Group leaders at Freedom Plains Presbyterian Church. She loved to travel and she was an avid reader, generous with her time and talents. A member of the Wanaksink Lake Club, she was always ready to lend a helping hand to family, friends or community groups. Madeline was a devoted wife, and loving mother, stepmother, grandmother and friend.
Visitation will be will be held on Sunday, November 12 from 2-4pm and on Monday, November 13 from 7-9pm at VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc., 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 14 at 11:00am at First Church Of Monticello, Presbyterian, Jones Street, Monticello with Rev. Dr. Robert McLeod officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Hill cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.

Harry A. Martin
November 9, 2006
Harry Alfred Martin of Wurtsboro passed away Thursday, November 9, 2006 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris after a long illness. He was 53.
The son of the late Edward E. Martin, Sr. and Carolyn M. York Martin, he was born January 15, 1953 in Bloomingburg.
Harry is survived by his three daughters: Christina, Valorie, and Jamie; three sisters: Pearl E. Bader & her husband John of Circleville, Jeanette H. Barrett of Bloomingburg, Carol L. Sams & her husband Larry of Lucas, OH; three brothers: Edward E. Martin, Jr. & his wife Beverly of Bloomingburg, John A. Martin of Wurtsboro, and Paul R. Martin of Bloomingburg; and several grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters: Ruth A. Cram and Gloria J. Carlew; and a brother: Walter H. Martin.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 12 at 2:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro with Rev. Peter Johnson officiating.

Virginia G. Lord
November 7, 2006
Virginia G. Lord, a retired licensed practical nurse at the Hamilton Avenue Hospital in Monticello, died Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at her home in Rock Hill. She was 88.
Mrs. Lord was born March 29, 1918 in Brooklyn, NY and was the widow of Lee Lord who predeceased her on October 7, 1976.
If you go through life and have had contact with someone who possessed mom’s loving heart, her compassion for everyone, humor, giving nature and integrity, consider yourself a very fortunate individual. She passed away peacefully in the arms of her loving son, Gregory Lawson Garcia.
Other members of her diverse family include Carole Kearnes, Arlene Pope, Stanley Garcia, Anja Durgmann, a number of grandchildren & great grandchildren, and her dear friends including Ada. We lost David Garcia on September 11, 2001, Tower One, 97th Floor.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Rita Allien Thompson
November 1, 2006
Rita Allien Thompson, a retired income maintenance specialist for the New York City Dept. of Social Services, died Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at her home in Monticello.
The daughter of the late Clifford George Hunt and the late Louise Evelyn Payne Hunt, she was born September 17, 1924 in the Bronx. She was the widow of Daniel Melvin Thompson who predeceased her on October 9, 1989.
Mrs. Thompson was a woman with a quiet, gentle strength who cared for many of the neighborhood children and families who were in need. She was also a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses for over 67 years.
She is survived by a son: Joel David Thompson, Sr. & his wife Shirley of Monticello; a daughter: Donna Elizabeth Thompson of the Bronx; a brother: Floyd Stedman Hunt of Syracuse; a brother-in-law: Paul Thompson of the Bronx; fourteen grandchildren: Joel D. Thompson, Jr. & his wife Vanessa, Samuel M. Thompson & his wife Erika, Ladawn Jackson, Benjamin J. Thompson & his wife Rhonda, Keisha L. McKinney, Robert W. McKinney, Darryl Grice, Jaret Hewitt, Hope Ford, Vaughn Jackson, Julius Jackson, Andrew Jackson, Tyler Jackson & Tarelle Jackson; five great grandchildren: Dajour, Kiera, Maya, Jasmine & Ezekiel; a special cousin: Patricia Culmer of Buie, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews & cousins.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter: Michele Louise McKinney; and a sister: Thelma Louise Hunt.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 5 at 4:30pm at the Kingdom Hall Of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 174 Park Avenue in Monticello. Minister Todd Matthew Jordan will officiate.

Mary Esther Mann
October 22, 2006
Mary Esther Mann, a homemaker and longtime resident of the area, died Sunday, October 22, 2006 at her home in Monticello. She was 69.
The daughter of the late William DeGraw and the late Bertha DeGroat DeGraw, she was born April 5, 1937 in Spring Valley. She was the widow of Lawrence C. Mann who predeceased her on December 31, 2004.
She was a good wife, mother & grandmother who will be sadly missed and forever loved.
She is survived by her four children: Richard Mann & his wife Jody of Lumberland, Angela Tester of Monticello, Lawrence Mann & his wife Betty of Cuddebackville and Lucas Mann & his wife Andrea of Bloomingburg; her grandchildren: Kimberly Tester (and her children: Christopher Stein & Erica Stein), Jessica, Larry, Lucas, Janeene, Joann, Robert, Esther, Nichole, Thomas, Chad, Gerod, Philip, Lawrence, Crystal and Michael; five great grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother: Elmer DeGraw.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 25 from 9:00am to 11:00 am at VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Her funeral service will follow at 11:00am at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Bloomingburg Rural cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made to the family would be appreciated.

Louis J. Smerak
October 8, 2006
Louis J. Smerak, a retired Vice President for the Caravan Products Co, of Totowa, NJ died on October 8, 2006 at the Franciscan Oaks Health Care, Denville, NJ. He was 84.
The son of the late Frank Smerak and Antonie Gross Smerak, he was born on June 20, 1922 in NYC. Louis was a member of the Our Lady of the Valley Church in Wayne, NJ, a long time member
of Rotary, member of the A.A.C.C., and the I.F.T.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Soellner Smerak, at home; 2 sons, Lance and Mark, both of New Jersey; 4 grandchildren, Brent, Keith, Heather, and Amanda; and one Great Grandson, William. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 10, from 3pm-6pm, at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan St, Wurtsboro, NY 12790. A mass of christian burial will be held on Wednesday Morning, October 11, at 11:00am at the St. Joseph's Church of
Wurtsboro with the Rev. Peter Madori Officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph's cemetery.

Brian James Foss
October 3, 2006
Brian James Foss of Monticello passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle collision on September 7, 2006. He was 39.
The son of Darrel Foss and Linda Smith, he was born November 22, 1966 in Monticello.
A devoted husband & father, Brian was employed by Hydro Aluminum in Ellenville as a Supervisor; He volunteered & coached for the local AYSO Soccer League and the Monticello T-ball League, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with his family. He was also a good friend, a loving son and brother whose life revolved around his family. His sons were the light of his life and there was nothing he loved more than teaching them crafts, gardening and life’s lessons.
He is survived by his wife: Ann-Marie Porter Foss and two sons: Kyle Darren Foss and Connor James Foss, all at home; his father Darrel Foss & his wife Sharon of Hernando Beach, FL; his mother Linda Smith & her companion Guy Baker of Liberty; a brother: Brendan Pavese & his wife Heidi of Woodbourne; and a sister: Shanna Drwiega & her husband Jack of Tampa, FL; his mother-in-law: Carola McNutt of Monticello; a sister-in-law: Laura Foss of Monticello; Paternal grandparents: Gil & Gerry Foss of Zephyr Hills, FL; nieces & nephews: Dustin, Deara, Taylor & Brendan, Jr.; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was predeceased by a brother: Darren Foss; his father-in-law: James McNutt; and his maternal grandparents: Walt & Claire Smith.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 5 from 2-4 and 6-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
His funeral service will be held on Friday, October 6 at 11:00am at the United Methodist Church, 445 Broaday in Monticello. Rev. Gene Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in the Rock Ridge cemetery in Monticello.
In honor of his two children, memorial contributions can be made to the Homestead School Building Fund, 428 Hollow Road, Glen Spey, NY 12737.

Jack Brust
September 24, 2006
Jack Brust of White Lake, died Sunday, September 24, 2006 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 56.
The son of the late Louis and Florence Boss Brust, he was born March 27, 1950 in Oceanside, NY.
Jack was a photographer most of his life in New Hyde Park and was later employed at the Recovery Center in Monticello prior to his illness.
He is survived by his wife: Tara Gaffney Brust at home; two sons: Travis of Williamsburg, VA and Devin at home in White Lake; two daughters: Courtney and Kylie, at home; two brothers: Kenneth Brust & Janice McCann of Warrensburg, NY and Bruce Brust & his wife Sharon Brust of Florida; one sister: Joan Deters & her husband Richard of Eatens Neck, Long Island; 22 nieces and nephews; 10 grand nieces & nephews; his dearest friends: Pokey & Roe Romano of Monticello; and his longtime companions: Shadow, Cruiser and Latte.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 from 2 –4 pm and 7 –9 pm at the VanInwegen Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Services will be held at 8:00 on Wednesday evening at the funeral home with the Rev. David Coon officiating. Burial will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Recovery Center of Sullivan County, 17 Hamilton Avenue, Monticello, NY 12701.
