William J. Conway, Sr.
August 19, 2006
Mr. William J. "Bill" Conway Sr., a retired driver for the Local #445, Rupp Southern Tier Trucking Corp, and a longtime resident of the area, died Saturday, August 19, 2006 at the Dove Health Care Center in Lake Wales, Fla. He was 78.
The son of the late John J. Conway & Mary Murran Conway, he was born January 30, 1928 in Monticello. Bill spent much of his life in the Rock Hill area until he moved to Lake Wales, Fla 13 years ago. He was a member of St. Peter’s Church of Monticello; a former member of the Monticello Fire Dept; a past chief and 50+year charter member of the Rock Hill Fire Department; Teamster Local #445 member; B.P.O.E. Elk’s Lodge #1544, Monticello; Saddlebag, Fla. Men’s Club; as well as a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Lake Wales, Fla.
He is survived by his loving wife: Madeline Bernius Conway, at home; his two sons: William "Chuck" Conway Jr. & his wife Kathryn of Monticello and Michael Conway & his wife Kim of Rock Hill; his beloved daughter: Patricia Vickers & her husband Joe of West Palm Beach, Fla; six grandchildren: Michael Jr. of Cuddebackville, Daniel & Samantha Jacobs of West Palm Beach, Fla, and Christopher, James & Amy Conway of Monticello; and a great-granddaughter: Arianna.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 24 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
His funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 25 at 12:00 noon at St. Peter’s Church, Broadway & Liberty Street in Monticello. Fr. Robert Ginel will officiate.
Burial will follow in the St. Peter’s cemetery, Monticello.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.

Ida Mae Finn
August 17, 2006
Ida Mae Finn of Monticello, a retired cook and longtime resident of the area, died Thursday, August 17, 2006 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 85.
The daughter of the late Richard Davis & Allie Warren Davis, she was born April 4, 1921 in Franklinton, Louisiana.
Mrs. Finn was a member of the Bethlehem Temple Church in Monticello and a member of the Sullivan County Branch of the NAACP. She was the widow of Solomon Buster Finn.
She is survived by her two daughters: Gladys Walker & her husband James Madison Walker, and the Hon. Josephine V. Finn, all of Monticello; two grandchildren: Todd Jay Walker & Nicole Jamie Walker, both of Los Angeles, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son: Solomon Finn, Jr; and her siblings: Luther Davis, Oscar Davis, Mattie Hart, Hattie Magee, Artis Davis, BJ Davis, William Davis, Clara Mae Taylor, Maurice Davis, Curley Davis, Olevia Davis, Willie J. Davis & Alton Davis.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 22 from 10:00am to 11:00am at the Bethlehem Temple Church, Fairground Road in Monticello. Her funeral service will follow at 11:00am at the church. Rev. Mervin Armstead will officiate.
Interment will be held in the Rock Ridge cemetery in Monticello.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Bethlehem Temple Church Missionary Dept, P.O. Box 178, Monticello, NY 12701.

Bernice Decker Masten
August 14, 2006
Bernice Decker Masten has entered into Heaven on Monday, August 14, 2006 at the age of 75. She fought her illness bravely form her home with family and friends by her side.
The daughter of the late Charles Decker & May Frey Decker, she was born March 8, 1931 in Liberty.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years: John L. Masten Sr. at home; a son: John L. Masten Jr. & his wife Laurie and their children Annalise & John III; her son-in-law: Robert Jahrling & his sons: Bobby & Brian; a great granddaughter: Alexis; and numerous nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter: Barbara Ann Masten Jahrling; a sister: Bertha Meininger; and a brother: Clarence Decker.
Bernice was well known for her love of the history of Sullivan County, her Native American Ancestry and her dedication to helping others search for their ancestral background. She was also a major factor in the opening and running of the Mamakating Historical Society and her 15-year involvement in the Sullivan County Historical Society and Museum. But most of all Bernice loved her family – those that have passed and those still here. May you enter Heaven in peace and know that you will always be missed by everyone that has known you, but most of all by your family whom you have shown an endless love.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 17 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Her funeral service will be held Thursday evening at 8:00pm at the funeral home. Burial of her ashes will be held at the convenience of the family in the Sylvan cemetery, Wurtsboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Mamakating Historical Society, P.O. Box 163, Summitville, NY 12781.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Wurtsboro.

Felix Reynolds
August 13, 2006
Felix Reynolds, a retired local labor union worker at Local 17and area resident for 50 years died Sunday, August 13, 2006 at his home in Monticello.
The son of the late Elmer Reynolds & Mahilia King Reynolds, he was born January 24, 1931 in Camden, NJ.
Mr. Reynolds was a member of the International Benevolent and Protective Order of Elk Lodge #1612, Monticello and attended the First Baptist Church of Monticello, NY. He was the widow of Alberta H. Reynolds who predeceased him on January 29, 2006.
He is survived by his two daughters: Georgianna H. Thomas of Monticello and Rosetta H. Dyes (Richmond) of Rochester; two sons: Ricky & Ronald Reynolds of Morris, PA; four grandchildren: Brenton C. Walker (Abby), Katori E. Walker, Myya R. Dyes & Broderick R. Dyes; Sisters-in-law: Sylvia Goldman Reynolds, Geneva Dingle (Frank), Dorothy Lambert, Ida Mae Oduola & Willie Mae Redd; Brothers-in-law: Leroy Dantzler & James Hilliard; Nieces: Darlene Wilcox-Bickham (John), Tamera Reynolds-Zwerling (Mylo), Carolyn Reynolds & Helen Reynolds; Nephews: Randall Reynolds (Kathy) & David Reynolds, Jr; along with a host of great nieces & nephews.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by a daughter: Alberta E. Hilliard and two brothers: Ellery Reynolds & David Reynolds.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 17 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral service will be held on Friday, August 18 at 1:00pm at the First Baptist Church of Monticello, Liberty Street in Monticello. Rev. James Matthews.
Burial will follow in the Rock Ridge cemetery in Monticello.

Raymond Prokosch
August 11, 2006
Raymond "Skippy" Prokosch, entered into Heaven on Friday, August 11, 2006, at the age of 66. He fought his illness bravely from his home with family and friends by his side.
The son of Lydia Coney Prokosch and the late Raymond Prokosch, he was born September 26, 1939, in Monticello.
Skippy served in the United States Marine Corps in 1958. He lived in Monticello his whole life and aside from his 20 year job at Sleepy Hollow as an assistant superintendent, he did a great deal of volunteer work. "Poppy's" love for his children and grandchildren kept him very active in Glory to God Christian High School and Light and Life School in Liberty. Because of his love for his family, he was an avid skater and worked at Skater's World Roller Rink in Ferndale. This enabled "Poppy" to be a part of the kid’s fun times.
He was a volunteer fireman for Forestburgh Fire Department; a lifelong member of First Church of Monticello-Presbyterian; and attended the Willowemoc Baptist Church, where his best friend Pastor William Lamb officiates.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 46 years, Virginia Cherry Prokosch; his three beautiful daughters Mary Ann VanPelt and Chassidy and Selena Prokosch, all at home; also at home, his four wonderful grandchildren, Desirae & Justin Schubert and Frances & Jeanne VanPelt. He is also survived by his mother, Lydia Prokosch of Monticello; two sisters Joyce Bullock and her husband Richard of Accord; and Jeanette Hamilton and her husband Fred of Newfoundland, PA; a brother-in-law, Charles Cherry and his wife Audrey of Monticello; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition he will be greatly missed by his dear friends Tiffany and Gregg Pitula, who were like children to him, and MaKayla Jahn, Christopher Pitula, and Joshua Boyles, who were like grandchildren to him.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a daughter, Debra Mae Prokosch, and a brother, Douglas Prokosch.
A memorial service in honor of his life will be held on Sunday, August 20 at 2:00 p.m., at the First Church of Monticello-Presbyterian, Jones Street in Monticello.
Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.

Dr. Henry J. Kent
August 9, 2006
Dr. Henry J. Kent, a research fellow for International Paper in Sterling Forest died Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at his home in Bloomingburg. He was 53.
The son of Fredrick Kent & Margaret Wurzinger Kent, he was born February 2, 1953 in Plymouth, England.
Henry was a Research Fellow at International Paper in Sterling Forest NY from 1986 until 2004. His research included mathematical modeling of coatings and led a group of scientists in the design of novel instrumentation to characterize fundamental properties of paper. His published works include three papers in the Royal Society in London England, as well as numerous other contributions to the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry (TAPPI) in the United States. He held numerous United States Patents for his instrumentation. Recently he had been consulting for a number of companies in the U.S. and Europe. He was actively involved in the Save the Children programs.
He is survived by his wife: Patricia A. Reitemeyer Kent, at home; his parents of Austria; a son: Gene Kent of England; a daughter: Candice Kent of England; two stepsons: Keith Durchanek of Greenwood Lake and Christopher Durchanek of Bel Air, MD; and a granddaughter: Caitlyn.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 14 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. A memorial service will be held on Monday evening at 8:00 at he funeral home.
Interment will be held in the family plot in Kindberg, Austria at a later date.

Sean Johnson
August 4, 2006
Sean Johnson, loving son and brother, died suddenly on August 4, 2006, in Florida. He was 23.
The son of Lee Iarusso Johnson and the late Paul Johnson he was born on February 22, 1983 in Queens, NY.
Sean is survived by his mother of Florida; and a sister Brittany also of Florida; his Paternal Grandfather William Johnson of Wurtsboro; Maternal Grandmother Lorraine Iarusso of Florida; his Uncles Richie Iarusso and his wife Gina of CT., and John Iarusso and his wife Donna also of Ct., an Aunt; Anita Kientzler and husband Jeff of Wurtsboro and several Cousins.
He was predeceased by his Father, Paul and his brother Eric, along with his Paternal Grandmother Mary Johnson and Maternal Grandfather Jerry Iarusso.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 from 3:00pm to 8:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street, Wurtsboro, NY. Funeral Services will be held Thursday at 1:00PM, August 10, 2006 at Our Lady of the Assumption RC Church, Bloomingburg with Father Raymond Bagdonis, O.Carm officiating. Burial will follow in the Sylvan cemetery, Wurtsboro, NY.

Mariah Anne Merando
August 3, 2006
Mariah A Merando, a student entering the sixth grade at the Hamilton Bicentennial School in Port Jervis, died Thursday, August 3, at the Westchester Medical Center, she was 10 ˝ years old.
The daughter of William J. and Patricia A. Wolfe Merando, Emmy was born on December 20, 1995 in Glens Falls, NY.
She is survived by her beloved parents, William and Patricia, at home; her beloved brother, Jacob, also at home; her grandparents; Hildora Wolfe, of Wurtsboro, Patricia Merando, of Williamsport, PA, and “Nana” Sywyk, of Wurtsboro; Great-Grandparents, Hazel Merando, William Merando, Sr. and Tina Merando, all of Cold Spring, NY; her loving aunts, Carole Forte and Donna Centeno, both of Wurtsboro, and Laurie Wolfe of Wappingers Falls; her aunts and uncles, Gia and Matt West, of Fishkill, Melissa and Ronald Irwin, of Ft. Edward, NY, Renatë and Paul Wolfe, of Fishkill, Natasha and Scott Merando, of Williamsport, PA, Gail and Tim Cotter, of Beacon, and her beloved uncle Gabe Merando, of Fishkill; Cousins, Jinay, Mia, Matthew, Alyssa, Shayne, Mayra, Antonio, Marisol, Corey, Nathan, Ryan, and Olivia; her best friends, Ashley Smith, Janeen Carter, Tony Joey and Amanda Capaci, Cady Robles, Magen Sargent, Blaze VanDermark, and Michael Edward Atkins; and her extended family, Joyce O’dell and family, Kim and Frank Capaci, and Debbie and Ed Sargent, the Harrington Family, and the Seviers Family.
She was predeceased by her Great grandfather, Phillip Merando, Sr “POP POP”, grandfather, Chester Wolfe, Uncles Michael Wolfe and Anthony Forte, and her aunt, Terri Merando.
A family statement reads, “Our sunshine entered our lives on December 20, 1995 and was aptly named Mariah, like the wind, but to those closest to her she was Emmy. With her flowing golden hair and bright blue eyes flashing, she was always busy. High spirited, always smiling, with a giving and generous sprit. She cared for everyone and her family ties were strong. Whether watching La Luna or roasting perfect marshmallows, she did it with zest. She played in her school orchestra and was athletic, she danced both tap and ballet. She will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her forever. Em was the sunshine of many lives. Loyal, loving, and kind, she brought us adventure and chaos, but mostly a tremendous amount of spirit and joy. She was our “Emmy Sunshine” and now is our guardian angel.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 6 at from 1pm-4pm and again on Monday, August 7 from 10am-12pm, at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan St. Wurtsboro. A funeral service for Emmy will be held at the funeral home, following the Monday visitation at 12:00pm with the Rev. Peter Madori officiating.
Memorial contributions in Emmy’s name may be made to The Ronald McDonald House Charities, One Kroc Drive, Oak Brook, IL 60523, or the Children’s Hospital Foundation at WMC, 1 Kids Corner, Valhalla, NY 10595-1644. Mariah cared so much for children’s charities throughout her life, even participating in the Locks For Love Program.

Frederick W. Bliss
July 31, 2006
Frederick Bliss, retired employee of the Middletown Psychiatric Center, died on July 31, 2006 at the Valley View Center for Nursing Care, Goshen, NY. He was 74.
The son of the late George Windsor and Rita Watts Bliss he was born on September 4, 1931 in Middletown, NY.
Frederick is survived by his children : Debra Bliss of Middletown, Ralph Bliss and his wife Pamela of Niskayuna, NY. and Dawn Loechner and her husband Richard of Pine Bush; His brothers Carl Nielsen and wife Margaret of West Virginia, and Chris Nielsen and wife Charlotte of Florida and Three Grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 4, 2006 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street, Wurtsboro, NY. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home on Saturday at 10 am, August 4, 2006. Burial will follow in the Bloomingburg Rural cemetery, Bloomingburg, NY.

Marjorie “Sis” Lee Price
July 26, 2006
Marjorie “Sis” Lee Price, a lifetime resident of Monticello, entered into rest at home with her family on Wednesday, July 26, 2006. She was 60.
The daughter of Cornelius and Margaret Hulse Avery, she was born in Monticello on June 8, 1946.
Survivors include her two sons; Thomas Price and his wife Christine of Monticello and Neil Price and his wife Ellen of Monticello, her sister; Ruth Price and her husband John, her two brother; Neil Avery and his wife Elaine, and David Avery and his wife Debbie, her grandchildren; Kristi, Courtney, Joshua and Nicholas as well as one great-grandchild; Amiah and several nieces & nephews and cousins.
Sis was predeceased by her husband, Richard Thomas Price in 2003, whom she married on September 28, 1963.
“A special Thank You, to all of the family and friends, who participated in the care of this loving woman”
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 31, 2006 from 4 till 8pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home 401 Broadway Monticello. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at 11am at the funeral home. Rev Paul Case will officiate. Burial will be in the Budd cemetery Route 42 Monticello.
