Debra Mae Prokosch
April 23, 2006
A gentle, loving angel, Debra Mae Prokosch, was called home to Heaven on Sunday, April 23, 2006 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 44.
The daughter of Raymond Prokosch and Virginia Cherry Prokosch, she was born December 3, 1961 in Monticello.
DeeDee graduated Monticello High School in 1980 and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints in Monticello. She was a special person who loved being with her little sisters, nieces & nephew – they were her life. She cherished every minute with them.
She is survived by her mother and father: Virginia & Raymond Prokosch of Monticello; her grandmother: Lydia Prokosch of Monticello; three sisters: Mary Ann VanPelt of Hurleyville, Chassidy Prokosch and Selena Prokosch, both of Monticello; three nieces: Desirae Schubert of Monticello, Frances VanPelt and Jeanne VanPelt, both of Hurleyville; one nephew: Justin Schubert of Monticello; her very special love, her Honey Bunny Charles Decker, Jr. of Hurleyville; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
She was predeceased by her grandparents: Frances & Phillip Vandervort, and Raymond Prokosch; two uncles: William Cherry & Douglas Prokosch.
The family would also like to thank Minnie Paramore for the years she took good care of DeeDee.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 28 from 9:00am to 10:00am at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00am at the funeral home.
Burial will be held in Pine Hill cemetery in Sparrowbush.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Friends of Rachel & Jake Meddaugh Fund for the benefit of Cystic Fibrosis.

Arlene R. Sadler
April 23, 2006
Arlene Robin Sadler, an administrative assistant originally from Elmont, died Sunday, April 23, 2006 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 68.
The daughter of the late Edward J. Colvell and Anna Irene Baresich Colvell, she was born January 22, 1938 in Brooklyn.
Arlene was a devout Catholic and member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Forestburgh. She was a loving mother who raised three fine sons. She was also a caring person, in her later years giving love and care to her own mother until her death just four years ago. Most of all, we know she would like to be remembered as a genuinely good person, loved by her family and friends in the community.
She is survived by her three sons Eric J. Sadler & his wife Kristi of Plainview, Mark G. Sadler & his wife Nancy of Little Rock, AR and Christopher J. Sadler of East Boston, Mass.; a brother: Edward J. Colvell of Dayton, OH; a sister: Lois Ann Moroney of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ; two grandchildren: John Patrick & Tabitha Ann; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister: Kathryn T. Gerke.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 26 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 27 at 2:00pm at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Forestburgh. Fr. Ivan Csete will officiate.
Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Forestburgh, NY 12777 or to the charity of one’s choice.

Anne E. Carney
April 23, 2006
Anne E. Carney, a retired clerical supervisor for Commercial Credit Co. in New York City, died Sunday, April 23, 2006 at her home in Wurtsboro surrounded by her family. She was 95.
The daughter of the late Hermann Schlarb and Karolina Hess Schlarb, she was born March 7, 1911 in Gollheim, Germany.
Anne was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Wurtsboro and was the widow of James P. Carney who predeceased her in 1962.
She is survived by her daughter: Eileen A. Carney of Wurtsboro; a son: James K. Carney of Wurtsboro; two grandchildren: Kurt W. Carney & his wife Maryvonne of Middletown and Debra A. Schulz of Wurtsboro; two great grandsons: Julien & James.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers: Kurt Schlarb, Hermann Schlarb & Herbert Schlarb.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 26 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 27 at 10:30am at St. Joseph’s Church, Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Her nephew, Rev. Peter Madori will officiate.
Burial will be held in Gate of Heaven cemetery in Hawthorne.

Ronald Dale Walden
April 22, 2006
Ronald Dale Walden, a former security guard for the Concord Resort Hotel and the Raleigh Hotel, died Saturday, April 22, 2006 at his home in Monticello. He was 52.
The son of the late Carl & Opal Walden, he was born May 4, 1953 in Alameda, CA.
Ronald served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his son: Kevin Walden & his fiancé Danielle Lewis; a daughter: Racquel Wolochuk & her fiancé Alexander Norwood; 4 grandchildren: Tyreke, Tia, Ariel & Alexandria; and a sister Carla of California;
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 28 from 2:00 to 4:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
Burial will follow the visitation at the Sullivan Co. Veterans cemetery in Liberty.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.

Phyllis A. Yoho
April 20, 2006
Phyllis A. Yoho, a retired Spanish teacher at the Monticello High School, died Thursday, April 20, 2006 at her home in Kiamesha Lake. She was 72.
The daughter of the late Dr. Charles E. Yoho and Ethel Bell Yoho, she was born August 8, 1933 in Seattle, Washington.
Phyllis performed her undergraduate studies at Penn State and went on to receive her Master’s Degree from the University of Rochester in Linguistics. She also did some graduate work in Linguistics at Harvard University; She taught in Aruba for Standard Oil; in Middletown, CT and Brockport, NY; She taught Spanish at Monticello High School from 1967 until her retirement in 1999. Phyllis was an active member of the Monticello Teachers Union and a member of the Sullivan County Retired Teachers; a member of the First Church of Monticello, Presbyterian where she was active in the choir and bell choir; she was also a member of the Literacy Volunteers of America and assisted with the Monticello Foreign Language Festival.
She is survived by her brother: Dr. Robert Miller Yoho & his wife Jean of Clarion, PA; a sister: Agnes M.Y. Malloy of Kiamesha Lake; a niece: Jeanne Yoho Miller & her husband Peter of Nesquehoning, PA; a nephew: Franklin Hess Yoho & his wife Jan of Gastonia, NC; and great niece & nephews: Rachel Kerr, John Miller & Miller Yoho.
There will be no visitation.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 22 at 11:00am at the First Church of Monticello, Presbyterian, Jones Street in Monticello. Rev. Dr. Robert McLeod will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a scholarship in Phyllis’ memory in care of Eileen Motl, P.O. Box 1166, Monticello, NY 12701.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.

Dorris Taggart
April 20, 2006
Dorris Taggart of Monticello, a homemaker and lifelong resident of the area, died Thursday, April 20, 2006 at Achieve Rehab and Nursing Facility in Liberty. She was 71.
The daughter of the late Walter Strickland and Ida Bivins Strickland, she was born April 2, 1935 in Monticello.
She is survived by two sons: Robert Taggart and his wife Jeanette of Rock Hill and Glenn Taggart and his wife Alice of Menifee, CA; a sister: Ruth DeSimone of Monticello; five grandchildren: Robert, Nicole, Maria, Kyle and Brandon; her companion: John Whitlock; and her loving and devoted pets: Willow and Pierro.
She was the widow of Robert Taggart who predeceased her on September 19, 1984.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 24 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 25 at 11:00am at the funeral home. Rev. Gene Smith will officiate.
Burial will be held in St. Peters cemetery in Monticello.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Greyhound Rescue of New York, P.O. Box 1527, Clifton Park, NY 12065.

Wayne Tyrone Wright
April 2, 2006
Wayne Tyrone Wright, a former self employed worker, entered into rest on Sunday April 2, 2006 at the Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus in Middletown. He was 67.
The son of the late Benjamin Wright and Jessie May Green Wright, he was born October 1, 1938 in Middletown.
He was a member of the Mamakating Conservation Club who loved fishing, hunting and crossword puzzles; and was quite a gambler.
Wayne is survived by his sweet sis: Marlene (Molly) Brasington and her husband Wayne; a niece: Marlene and her husband Joseph Cirone; two great nieces: Nicole and Cassandra; and a great nephew Cono. He was predeceased by two brothers: Victor and Benjamin.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday April 11, 2006 at 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. The Rev. Robert Pinto will officiate.
Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

Jacob Julius Houman
March 31, 2006
Jacob Julius Houman of Monticello died Friday, March 31, 2006 at his daughter’s home in Hudson, FL under the care of Hernando Pasco Hospice. He was 76.
The son of the late Jacob Houman & Adeline Rynearson Houman, he was born February 16, 1936 in Forest City, PA.
Jacob was a 46 year resident of Monticello, where he was cook for 25 years at the Old Homestead Restaurant in Bridgeville. He was a member of the First Church of Monticello, Presbyterian; a 13-year veteran of the United States Air Force and a 3-year veteran of the United States Army. He was also a past Commander of the American Legion Post 73, Monticello; a member of the Monticello Elks Lodge #1544 for 8 years; and the Odd Fellows of the VFW Post in Monticello.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Cellie Hendrix Houman; a daughter: Glenda McIntosh; two sons: Larry Houman & Michael Houman; two brothers: William Houman & Ronald Houman; two sisters: Elsie Guzick & Cindy Degma; 19 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces& nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 7 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 8 at 11:00am at the First Church of Monticello, Presbyterian, Jones Street in Monticello. Rev. Dr. Robert McLeod will officiate.
Burial with military honors will be held in the Sullivan County Veterans cemetery in Liberty.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Hernando-Pasco Hospice, 12107 Majestic Blvd, Hudson, FL 34667.

Claire Morgan
March 26, 2006
Claire Morgan, retired Library Aide for the Monticello High School a former resident of Monticello for over 55 years, died Sunday, March 26, 2006 at the Northern Metropolitan Nursing Home. She was 84.
The daughter of the late Walter Van Dunk & Lillian Conklin Van Dunk, she was born October 25, 1921 in Hillburn, NY.
She was the widow of Howard E. Morgan, a former Monticello Police Sergeant and civic leader.
Claire touched many young lives working as an aide in the classroom and the library of the Monticello High School for 22 years. Many of her former students and colleagues remained in touch with her after her retirement in 1987.
She was an active member of the First Church of Monticello Presbyterian, serving as an elder, deacon and teacher of religion. She was a deeply religious woman who captured hearts with her goodness. She gave much of her energy to others but also found time to pursue her love of painting. Her deep sense of spirituality showed in her lovely landscapes. She tried to show the beauty and the purity of the world that God has made and her paintings instill this tranquility in the viewer. She had received considerable recognition as one of Sullivan County’s finest artists. She was honored as “Artist of the Month” by the SC Office for the aging, in July 1984. She was featured in a calendar of “Women Who Make a Difference” by the same organization. She was the president and Vice Pres. Of the “China Painters Guild” in Liberty. Her deep appreciation of life has blessed her with a loving family and an abundance of true friends.
She is survived by two daughters; Karen Martin and her husband Charles of Nanuet, NY
and Naomi Morgan of Suffern, NY; Three sons: Dr. Fredric C. Morgan and his wife Linda of San Leandro, CA; Stephen M. Morgan and his wife Linda of Liberty, NY, and Timothy J. Morgan of Lynn Haven Fl: Two brothers Walter Van Dunk and his wife Merika of Stroudsburg, Pa and John T. Van Dunk and his wife Delores of Middletown, NY: Two sister in laws Winifred Clayter of Hillburn, NY and Madeline Van Dunk of Mahwah, NJ.: Seven grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her brothers: Arnold Lee Van Dunk and Robert Van Dunk.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 30 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday, March 31 at 11:00am at the First Church of Monticello Presbyterian Jones Street in Monticello with the Rev. James O’Roarke and Rev. Robert McLeod officiating.
Burial will be held in Rock Ridge cemetery in Monticello.

Frederick Rickan

Monticello, NY - Frederick Rickan, a retired horse trainer for the Monticello Harness Association, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at the Achieve Rehab & Nursing Facility in Liberty. He was 71.
The son of the late Arthur Rickan & Lula Knight Rickan, he was born January 3, 1935 in Detroit, MI. He was the widower of Audrey Rickan.
Fred was a member of the B.P.O. E. Elk’s Lodge #1544 in Monticello where he served as Past Exalted Ruler.
He is survived by his daughter: Nancy Hadley & her husband Gary of Monticello; three grandchildren: Tennille Callaghan, Casey Unger & Rachel Hadley, all of Monticello; and four great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2006 at 2:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Monticello Elk’s Lodge #1544, North Street, Monticello, NY 12701.
