James J. Rodriguez
February 14, 2006
James Jacob Rodriguez, a retired dry cleaner and resident of the area for 36 years, died Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at his home in Wurtsboro Hills. He was 65 years old.
The son of the late Jacob & Mary Rodriguez, he was born February 26, 1940 in Puerto Rico.
He served in the United States Army 101st Airborne and was one of the founders of the Town of Wallkill Little League; a past member of the Circleville Volunteer Fire Company; and the Town of Wallkill Human Rights Commission.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 47 years: June Rodriguez, at home; two daughters: Debra Catizone and husband Frank of Kerhonkson & Patricia Kosik and her husband Alex of Wurtsboro; two sons: James B. Rodriguez and Robert P. Rodriguez, both of Wurtsboro; a brother: Mario Rodriguez and his wife Gabriella; and two sisters: Marilu Ortiz and her husband Peter, and Marisol Rodriguez, all of Puerto Rico; five grandchildren: Christy Medina and her husband Freddie, Frank and Jimmy Catizone, Helena and Paul Kosik; three great grandchildren: Julia, Alexandria and Antonio; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 16 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 17 at 10:00am at St. Joseph’s Church, Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Fr. Peter Madori will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Court, Newburgh, NY 12550.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Wurtsboro.

Louise M. Gale
February 13, 2006
Louise M. Gale of Monticello, an employee of the Concord Golf Course, died Monday, February 13, 2006 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 51.
The daughter of Marion Haas Mapes and the late Clifton Mapes, she was born October 30, 1954 in Monticello.
She is survived by her mother: Marion Mapes of Monticello; a daughter: Michelle Bauer & her husband Michael of Loch Sheldrake; three sisters: Susan Jahn & her husband Robert of Monticello, Patricia Bernhardt & her husband Wayne of Cochecton, and Ellen Price & her husband Richard of Monticello; a brother: Daniel Mapes of Monticello; four grandchildren: Damien, Ashley, Harley & Misty; her companion: Patrick Martin; and several nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 17 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 18 at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Rev. Paul Case will officiate.
Burial will be held in Mapes cemetery, Route 42 in Monticello.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 419 East Main Street, Suite 307B, Middletown, NY 10940.

Joseph T. Fattorusso
February 12, 2006
Joseph T. Fattorusso, a self employed plumber and carpenter, and longtime area resident, died on Sunday, February 12, 2006 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 74.
Joe was born in Brooklyn of October 12, 1931 the son of Joseph and Rose LaFemina Fattorusso. He loved hunting and fishing and the fellowship that went with it. He was also a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1952 to 1954.
He is survived by his loving wife Florence (Kotula) Fattorusso at home in Wurtsboro, his three sons; Joseph Jr. Fattorusso and his wife Aija of Teaneck, NJ, John Fattorusso and his wife Suzanne of Wurtsboro and James Fattorusso and his wife Laura of Wurtsboro his daughter; Gina Bockman and her husband Albee of Hurleyville, his three brothers; Lawrence Fattorusso of Brooklyn, NY, Albert Fattorusso and his wife Joy of Staten Island, and William Fattorusso and his wife Maureen of Brooklyn, and his one sister; Mildred Paola of NJ. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren; Anthony, Jennifer, Joseph, Melissa, Jamee, Emily, James and Nicole, and his one great grandchild Anthony Jr. and a host of nieces and nephews.
Joe was predeceased by three brothers; Ralph, Luis, and Ralph and one sister Amelia.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 14 from 7 to 9pm and on Wednesday, February 15 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro, NY.
Joe’s funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 16 at 10am at St. Joseph’s RC Church, Sullivan St. Wurtsboro with Father Peter Madori officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in St. Joseph’s cemetery Wurtsboro.

Lizzie M. Wilkerson
February 12, 2006
Lizzie M. Wilkerson, a long time area resident, died Sunday, February 12, 2006 at the Roscoe Community Nursing Home. She was 94 years old.
The daughter of the late Charles and Hattie Mae Yancey, she was born May 15, 1911 in North Carolina. She was the widow of the late Fouchain Wilkerson who predeceased her in 1979.
Survivors include her brother: Saul Yancey of West Haven, Connecticut; a grandson: Tony Wilkerson, currently serving in the military; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sons: Charles Henry and Willie Fouchain; and one daughter: Hattie Mae.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2006 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Pastor Mary E. Alli will officiate.
Burial will be in the Rock Ridge cemetery in Monticello.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.

John E. Washington
February 7, 2006
John E. Washington of Monticello, a councilman for the Town of Thompson, died Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. He was 58.
The son of Margaret Lane Washington and the late Ambrose “Slim” Washington, he was born October 3, 1947 in Monticello.
John was a mixologist extraordinaire for several area resorts and local establishments. He was also a former historian and deputy Town Clerk for the Town of Thompson; a member and Past President of the Monticello Fire Dept.; member of the Monticello Elk’s Lodge #1544; a former branch manager for the National Union Bank in Monticello; former owner of the Landfield Ave. Garage; former member of the Concord Wednesday night golf league. He also served in the United States Army Reserves.
John was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and his special pal, Riley. A lifelong resident of Sullivan County, he was proud to serve his community and was a tireless advocate for the underdog. John was a lover of Irish music and culture, and was blessed with a quick wit and the ability to put a smile on the face of everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years: Patricia Gregory Washington, at home; two sons: Vincent Washington of Charlotte, NC and Blake Washington & his fiancé Jennifer of Albany; a daughter: Kathleen Brawley & her husband Thomas “TJ” of Monticello; his mother: Margaret T. Washington; two brothers: Robert Washington & his wife Peggy of Liberty and Joseph Washington & his wife Frances of Mongaup Valley; a sister: Anastasia Robisch & her husband John of Longmont, CO; a granddaughter: Erin Mairead Brawley; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and area friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 10 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 11 at 11:00am at St. Peter’s Church, Broadway & Liberty Street in Monticello. Rev. Robert Ginel will officiate.
Burial will be held in St. Peter’s cemetery in Monticello.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Albany Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital, 315 So. Manning Blvd. Albany, NY 12208.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Monticello.

Patricia A. Croci, of Wurtsboro, died February 6, 2006 at her home with her loving family at her side. A child from a family of 6 children, Patricia was born November 28, 1942 in Mahwah, NJ to the late Daisy DeGroat and William Croci. Funeral arrangements will remain private at the family's request.

William Earl DeFreese
February 6, 2006
William Earl DeFreese, a retired machinist for Chester Cable, died Monday, February 6, 2006 at the Castle Point VA Medical Center. He was 88.
The son of the late Charles L. DeFreese and Beatrice Elizabeth DeFreese, he was born February 15, 1917 in Ringwood, NJ.
Mr. DeFreese was the widow of Anna Gertrude Mann DeFreese and also served our country in the United States Army during World War II.
He is survived by two daughters: Charlotte Gannon of Westtown and Barbara Henderson of Liberty; 24 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Victor and a daughter, Gloria.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 10 from 9:00am to 11:00am at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
His funeral service will be held on Friday morning at 11:00 at the funeral home. Pastor Jim Gandy will officiate.
Burial with military honors will be held in the Sullivan Co. Veterans cemetery in Liberty.

Stanley Karas
February 4, 2006
Stanley Karas, a retired security officer for Banker's Trust in New York City and Horton Medical Center in Middletown, died Saturday, February 4, 2006 at his home in Wurtsboro. He was 87.
The son of the late Joseph Karas and Francesca Owczarski Karas, he was born July 6, 1918 in Poland.
Stanley & his wife met while both prisoners of war in Germany under Hitler during World War II. They both survived the tortuous forced labor in the mines, married soon thereafter and moved to the United States in 1955 to raise a family. They have lived in Wurtsboro for the past 30 years, where he was a member of St. Joseph's Church.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years: Lydia Wysoczyn Karas, at home; three daughters: Lucy Notarbartolo & her husband Arthur of Otisville, Irene Karas of Brooklyn and Helen Cabales of Orlando, FL; a brother: Walter Karas of Poland; three grandchildren: Arthur, Danielle & Anthony; two great grandchildren: Marissa and Michael, and several nieces & nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister: Stanislawa Jaworski.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 5 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro.
His funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday morning at 10:00 at St. Joseph’s Church, Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Fr. Peter Madori will officiate.
Burial will be held in the St. Joseph's cemetery in Wurtsboro.
Arrangements are by the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Wurtsboro.

Alberta H. Reynolds
January 29, 2006
Alberta H. Reynolds, a former employee of the Monticello Raceway, foster care provider and longtime resident of the area, died January 29, 2006 at her home with her family. She was 72.
The daughter of the late Ethel Dantzler and James Hilliard Sr., Alberta was born on May 20, 1933 in Orangeburg, S.C.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Felix Reynolds at home; 2 daughters, Georgianna H. Thomas of Monticello and Rosetta H. Dyes and her husband Richmond of Rochester, N.Y.; 2 brothers, James Hilliard, and Leroy Dantzler; 4 sisters, Geneva Dingle, Ida Mae Dantzler, Willie Mae Dantzler and Dorothy Lambert; her stepsons, Ronnie and Ricki Reynolds both of Norristown, Pa.; grandchildren, Brenton, Katori, Myya and Broderick; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Alberta was predeceased by her daughter, Alberta Elizabeth Hilliard and her three brothers, Isaac, Herbert Lee and Milton.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 1 from 5-8 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, Monticello.
Her Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 2 at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Liberty Street, Monticello, with the Rev. James Matthews officiating.
Burial will be held at a later date in the family plot in Hillcrest cemetery, Charleston, S.C.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Liberty Street, Monticello, NY 12701.
Out of town floral arrangements may be sent to the Glover Funeral Home, 113 Bryan St., Summerville, SC 29483.

Kenneth A. Gilger
January 27, 2006
Kenneth A. Gilger, a former tax preparer for Fleet Bank in Kingston and longtime resident of the area, died January 27, 2006 at his home in Wurtsboro. He was 42 years old.
The son of the Dorothy E. Bower and the late Arthur Gilger, Kenneth was born September 12, 1963 in Monticello.
Kenneth was a member of the Wurtsboro Fire Department as well as a past member of the Mamakating Conservation Club. He will be remembered most for his ability and willingness to lend a hand to anyone.
He is survived by his mother, Dorothy Gilger at home; his brother, Thomas Gilger at home; and his aunt, Catherine Yasa Cybulsky.
Kenneth was predeceased by his father, Arthur Gilger; and his aunt, Margaret Lake.
Arrangements are under the direction of the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home of Wurtsboro.
