Vincent J. Poveromo
October 16, 2005
Vincent J. Poveromo of Bloomingburg, a retired truck driver for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, died Sunday, October 16, 2005 at the Hudson Valley Hospital in Peekskill. He was 85.
The son of the late Giuseppe Joseph Poveromo and Domenica Maggie Poggio Poveromo, he was born August 30, 1920 in the Bronx.
Vinny was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army where he received the American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He later returned to the United States on the ship U.S.S. General Harry Taylor which sailed from Marseille, France on September 3, 1945, and went on to be honorably discharged from the Army. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #161, Port Jervis and the Disabled American Veterans.
He was the widow of Inez Mammarrello Poveromo, and in addition to his wife, was predeceased by a son, Michael.
He is survived by many area friends.
There will be no visitation.
Graveside services and burial with military honors will be held on Friday, October 21 at 2:00pm at the Sullivan County Veterans cemetery, Sunset Lake Road in Liberty.
Vinny was an avid cat lover and it is requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Animal Rights Alliance, Inc. (TARA), Route 209, P.O. Box 346, Westbrookville, NY 12785. (845) 754-7100.

Roberta S. Stanton
October 4, 2005
Roberta S. Stanton, a bank teller for Community Bank of Sullivan County in Liberty, died Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at the Sullivan Co. Adult Care Center in Liberty surrounded by her family. She was 60.
The daughter of the late Louis L. Ornoff and Dora Gershon Ornoff, she was born December 30, 1944 in Norfolk, VA.
Roberta had a love for decorating and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 15 years: John O. “Jack” Stanton, at home; a son: Lynn D. Barry & his fiancé Pam Knapp of Yulan; a daughter: Wendy M. Rosenblum & her husband Matthew of Rock Hill; a brother: Melvin Ornoff of Portsmouth, VA; four grandchildren: Christopher Barry, Ryan Rosenblum, Colin Rosenblum & Jordan Barry; and several nieces and nephews;
She was predeceased by a son: Clair “Zeke” Barry; and a brother: Richard Ornoff.
Her funeral service will be held on Friday, October 7 at 11:00am at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Judge Robert C. Williams will officiate.
Burial will be held in Rock Ridge cemetery in Monticello.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 419 East Main Street, Suite 307B, Middletown, NY 10940.

Grace A. Godfrey
September 27, 2005
Grace A. Godfrey of Bloomingburg, a retired schoolteacher and longtime resident of the area, went to be home with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 after a short illness. She was 93.
The daughter of the late Charles Ferris and Nellie Breen Ferris, she was born May 23, 1912 in Lake Placid. She was the widow of V. Kenneth Godfrey who predeceased her on October 29, 1990.
Grace was a schoolteacher for 25 years at the Bloomingburg Union Free School, which later became the Pine Bush Central School District. She was a member of the Church of Christ at Middletown; Retired Teacher’s Assoc.; Ladies Auxiliary of the Bloomingburg Fire Dept.; Bloomingburg Grange; a former member of the Bloomingburg Methodist Church; and a former village clerk for the Village of Bloomingburg.
She is survived by her two twin daughters: Jane A. Godfrey and Ruth E. Puckhaber, both of Bloomingburg; Several nieces & nephews; and many loving friends.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother: Charles “Chuck” Ferris; and a sister: Muriel Kelly.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 30 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 1 at 11:00am at the funeral home. Michael Egan will officiate.
Burial will be held in New Vernon cemetery, Town of Mamakating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of Christ at Middletown, P.O. Box 4713, Middletown, NY 10941.

Jean Domingo
September 22, 2005
Jean Domingo, a beloved mother & grandmother, died Thursday, September 22, 2005 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 76.
The daughter of the late Samuel Kunitsky and Anastasia Nellie Bedzik Kunitsky, she was born January 25, 1929 in Brooklyn. She was the widow of Nick Domingo who predeceased her on August 2, 2002.
She is survived by her two children: Steven J. Domingo & his wife Christina of Pittsford, and Nick Domingo & his wife Gale of Massapequa; a sister: Frances Colon of the state of Florida; five grandchildren: Jason, Ashley, Joseph, Ana & William; Several nieces, nephews and neighbors of Bethel, NY.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 25 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
Her funeral service will be held on Monday, September 26 at 10:00am at the funeral home.
Burial will be held in Luna cemetery in Rock Hill.

Lorraine E. Bou
September 19, 2005
Lorraine E. Bou of Phillipsport, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Monday, September 19, 2005 in Middletown surrounded by her family. She was 59.
The daughter of the late Victor Heggelund & Esther Firland Heggelund, she was born November 28, 1945 in Brooklyn. She was dedicated to her children by helping them when they needed her help no matter what the outcome would be. Her family was the most important thing in her life, her husband being the most important because she loved him so their marriage survived 40 years. She lived, loved and sacrificed for her children.
She is survived by her husband: Ismael Bou, Sr. at home; three sons: Ismael Bou, Jr., Jason Bou and Francisco Bou; two daughters: Desiree Vadi and Donna Moody; her grandchildren: Dawn, Jay, Tiffany, Irelis, Christian, Kayla, Steven, Tony, Donny, Vanessa, John, Christopher, Christina, Victoria, Kamiah, Erin, Justin, Keona, Susan, Kelsey, Dakota, Noemi, Lilliana, Elijah and Noah;
She was predeceased by a son, John Bou.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 20 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 21 at 10:00am at the funeral home. Rev. Robert Pinto will officiate.
Burial will be held in Bloomingburg Rural cemetery.

Rupert M. Alexander
September 15, 2005
Rupert M. Alexander, of Trinidad, a retired machinist entered into sunset on September 15, 2005 peacefully at home in Monticello, N.Y. surrounded by his loving family. He was 75. The son of the late Harry & Hilda Alexander, he was born on August 11, 1930 in Trinidad, W.I. "The family will surely and sadly miss his humor. Our father was an inspiration to all of us. By his example he instilled a strong work ethic, devotion to family and the treasure and gift of life. For his gentle, kind ways, strength of character and persevering spirit we know that God will reward him." He is survived by his wife Joyce Alexander of Trinidad, his three sons Brian Alexander and his wife Margaret of Trinidad, Lester Alexander and his wife Alethia of Toronto, Canada and Derek Alexander and his wife Melanie of London, England, his four daughters Allison A. Jack and her husband Andy Jack of Trinidad, Jacqueline A. Lynch and her husband Learie of Trinidad, Sherma A. Williams and her husband Leonard of Monticello and Wendy Thomas McCullough and her husband Leon of Monticello. He is also survived by his three brothers Roy Alexander and his wife Ann of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Frank & Ewart Alexander of Trinidad, his sister Grace Alexander James of Trinidad, his sisters-in-law Patsy Walters of Monticello and Phyllis Edward of Monticello, brother-in-law Cecil Walters and his wife Ann Marie, his thirteen grandchildren including Corey, Tishanna and Tristian McCullough of Monticello, Shane McCullough of Port Charlotte, Florida and Jahda A. Williams of Monticello and nine others in Trinidad, his great-grandchild Jahir McCullough of Monticello and a host of nieces & nephews in the US and Trinidad. Rupert was predeceased by his parents Hilda & Harry Alexander, his brothers Saville, Nevile, Garfield and Henry Alexander and sisters Eliane and Helen Alexander. Friends may call on Sunday, September 18, 2005 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc Funeral Home, 401 Broadway, Monticello, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 19, 2005 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's R.C. Church, Broadway, Monticello. The Rev. Stanislaus Ogbonua will officiate. Billy Truman Pugh
September 9, 2005
Billy Truman Pugh, a corrections officer for Woodbourne Correctional Facility and longtime resident of the area, died Friday, September 9, 2005 at his home in Monticello. He was 56.
The son of the late Irving Calvin Pugh and Ambretta Ward Pugh, he was born February 1, 1949 in Winton, NC.
Billy attended Bethlehem Temple Church in Monticello; was a member of the Bethany Masonic Lodge #101; and was also a bus driver for the Monticello Central Schools. He was a great husband and father who was loved by everyone.
He is survived by his wife: Judy Walker Pugh, at home; a son: DJ Pugh of Monticello; a granddaughter: Izabella; his beloved mother-in-law: Estella Walker of Monticello; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 14 from 6:00 to 9:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 15 at 1:00pm at the Bethlehem Temple Church, Fairground Road in Monticello. Rev. Mervin Armstead will officiate.
Burial will be held in the Rock Ridge cemetery in Monticello.
Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Orange & Sullivan Counties, American Cancer Society or Bethlehem Temple Church.

Anthony “Tony” Bastone
September 9, 2005
Anthony “Tony” Bastone of Rock Hill, the owner and operator of El Monaco Restaurant in White Lake, died Friday, September 9, 2005 at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center in Johnson City. He was 79.
The son of the late Giovanni Bastone and Erminia Merenda Bastone, he was born July 8, 1926 in Calabria, Italy.
Survivors include his loving wife: Rosaria Merenda Bastone, at home; two sons: John Bastone & his wife Jeanne of Midland, GA and Anthony Bastone & his wife Donna of Rock Hill; a daughter: Rosalie Bastone of White Plains; five brothers: Guiseppe Bastone of Montreal, Frank Bastone of New York City, John Bastone of New York City, Paul Bastone of the state of Florida and Mike Bastone of Monroe; a sister: Maria Nardi of Hurleyville; four grandchildren: Gina, AJ, Danielle & Andy; and several nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 11 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and on Monday, September 12 from 2 to 4pm & 7 to 9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello.
His funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 13 at 10:00am at St. Peter’s Church, Broadway & Liberty Street in Monticello. Entombment will be held at Ferncliff cemetery in Hartsdale.

Robin Mae Edwards
September 6, 2005
Robin Mae Edwards of Wurtsboro died Tuesday, August 6, 2005 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. She was 41.
She is survived by her two sons: Christopher Edwards of Port Jervis and Eric Baisley of Westbrookville; a daughter: Priscilla Olcott of Wurtsboro; her beloved best friend, Roger Castle, at home; two brothers: Andrew Edwards and Henry Edwards; three sisters: Joanne Vail, Jannette Munoz and Michelle Edwards; two grandchildren: George Olcott, Jr. and Benjamin Edwards and one expected grandchild; many nieces, nephews and numerous friends, most of all Gladys Laura;
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 9 from 2-4 and 7-9pm and on Saturday, September 10 from 9 - 11am at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Her funeral service will be held on Friday evening at 8:30pm at the funeral home.

Emmie Louise Lauenstein
September 4, 2005
Emmie Louise Lauenstein of Wurtsboro, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2005 at University Hospital in Syracuse, New York. She was 87.
The daughter of the late Emma and George Lyons, Emmie was born June 19, 1918 in Brooklyn. She lived in Wurtsboro for many years and resided in the Syracuse area the last four years. She was a homemaker and mother who loved her family and was a member of the Community Church of Wurtsboro. She was the widow of John W. Lauenstein who predeceased her on April 9, 2002.
Survivors include a daughter Linda Amorsen of San Diego, CA; her son John P. Lauenstein and his wife Susan Gilmore of Mineapolis; and her daughter Karla Lauenstein and her husband Warren F. Miller of Lafayette.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at 10:00am at the VanInwegen-Kenny, Inc. Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Rev. Robert Schwander will officiate. Family and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home at 9:30am prior to the funeral service.
Burial will be in the Sylvan cemetery in Wurtsboro.

Flora Sarine Hummel
August 31, 2005
Flora Sarine Hummel of Middleburgh, NY was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday August 31, 2005 at Basset Hospital of Schoharie County, Cobleskill after a short illness at the age of 81.
Flora was born on February 22, 1924 in Summitville, the daughter of the late Abraham and Flora Green Sarine. On July 26, 1941 she married Alonzo DeWitt Hummel who passed away on April 24, 1963. In 1974 she accepted the Lord when here grandson, Davied Allen Perry, went home to be with the Lord. Flora was a mother, grandmother, homemaker, and great-grandmother. She resided in Middleburgh with her daughter Kathleen, granddaughter Jessica and grandson Zachary. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much, as they all loved her.
Survivors include her daughters Harriet Hughes of Wurtsboro, Kathleen Perry of Middleburgh and Terri Hummel of Summit; her grandchildren: Deborah Smithem, James Hughes, Timothy Hughes, True Johnson, Kerine (Tina) Perry-Colley, Davied Allen Perry, Shawn Perry, Jessica Perry, Elizabeth Perry, Rachel Ann Hummel and Stephanie Chamberlain; 22 great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; her sisters include Arlene Platt of Wurtsboro, Pauline Platt of Cornwall, and Charlotte Marcantonio of Parsippany, NJ.
She was predeceased by her husband, Alonzo Humme;, her son Richard Hummel; grandson Davied Allen Perry; granddaughter Rachel Ann Hummel; her son-in-law James Hughes Jr.; her sisters: Helen Wells Terwilliger, Bessie Sisco, Jessie Sarine and Dorothy Platt; and her brothers Arthur Sarine, George Sarine, Charles Nelson Sarine and David Sarine.
Visitation will be on Saturday September 3, 2005 (today) from 12:00 noon to 2:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro. Her funeral will directly follow the visitation at the funeral home at 2:00pm. Rev. Robert Schwander will officiate. Burial will be at the Sylvan cemetery in Wurtsboro.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Mamakating First Aid Squad or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
