ANGELA WACHTEL

Liberty, N.Y. - Angela/Ann Wachtel, of Liberty and former resident of Weeki-Wachee Gardens, Fla. and Kelly Corners, N.Y., passed away on Sunday August 29, 2004 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris. She was 87. The daughter of Anthony and Antonette Sibilia, she was born on July 14, 1917 in Brooklyn, N.Y. After WW II, as a wife and mother, she resided in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Richmond Hill, Queens. She was an engaged and tireless community activist and served for a number of years as state Democratic Committeewoman representing South Queens. She was predeceased by her husband, Sidney Wachtel. Survivors include her two sons, Edward Wachtel and his wife Lori Ramos and Chuck Wachtel and his wife Jocelyn Lieu, all of New York City; her daughter, Susan Daurio and her husband Dominic of White Sulphur Springs; a brother, Andrew Rizzotti of Warwick, N.Y.; her grandchildren who brought her so much joy, Kimberly Paola and her husband Fred, Samantha and Nicole Daurio, Henry Wachtel and Grace Wachtel and her three beautiful great-granddaughters, Angela, Elena and Eva Paola. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Peter's Church, 264 S. Main St., Liberty on Thursday September 2 at 11:45 a.m. The Rev. Ivan Csete will officiate. A reception will follow the Mass in the common room of Barkley Garden Apts., 280 N. Main St., Liberty. Private cremation was held at the convenience of the family at Cedar Hill Crematory, Middle Hope, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made in Angela Wachtel's memory to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016 Attn. Memorials. VINCENT "COACH" DeANGELIS

Wallkill, N.Y. - Vincent "Coach" DeAngelis, of the hamlet of Wallkill, N.Y., a retired health and physical education teacher, former athletic director for Wallkill High School and a resident of the area since 1944, entered into eternal rest Friday, August 27, 2004 in the Hudson Valley Rehabilitation and Extended Care Center in Highland. He was 96. The son of the late Anthony and Laura Brunetti DeAngelis, he was born April 7, 1908 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a former member of the National Education Association; New York State Assoc. for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance; Charter member of the Wallkill Lions Club; member of the former Wallkill Footlight Acting Club. He was also involved in other various coaching organizations. In 1986, the Wallkill High School Gymnasium was dedicated to him in his honor. In many respects the community considers Coach DeAngelis the father of Wallkill Athletics. In addition to his teaching duties he also served as Athletic Director at Wallkill High School from 1944 until his retirement in 1973. He coached basketball, baseball, track, volleyball and in 1948 initiated 6 man football to the district and 9 years later introduced 11 man football. Among his many accomplishments were his volleyball teams capturing 21 consecutive league championships and nine section 9 championships. In addition, Coach DeAngelis was involved for over 40 years in summer recreational camps in Maine. A family statement reads: "He was loved and respected for his integrity and his fairness by his students and friends alike; his love was his family and all the kids he encountered." He was the widower of Sallie Simonelli DeAngelis Survivors include his daughters Sallianne Tabasco Sosler and husband Joseph Wallkill, Linda Chumas and husband Spero Wallkill; four grandchildren Frank Tabasco of Newburgh Jay Tabasco and wife Dawn of Hillsdale, N.J., Kara Chumas Crews of Wallkill, Spero C. Chumas of New York City; three great-grandchildren Cassandra, Torianna, and Jay Tabasco; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers Alfred, Charles, Nicholas. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 4 from 4-6 p.m. at the Wallkill Funeral Home, 12 Bonaventura Ave., Rte 208, in the hamlet of Wallkill. Entombment was held privately at the Cedar Hill Mausoleum, Newburgh. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Ulster and Dutchess, 34 Broadway, Kingston, NY 12401 or Wallkill Volunteer Ambulance Corps., PO Box 221, Wallkill, NY 12589. BESSIE W. LAZIER NEWKIRK

Crystal River, Fla. - Bessie W. Lazier Newkirk, a retired health care worker, died Wednesday September 1, 2004 at home. She was 84. The daughter of Clarence and Anna (Decker) Weeden, she was born July 24, 1920 in Westtown. She moved from Middletown, N.Y. to Homosassa Springs, Fla. nine years ago. She was a member of the Civil Service Assoc. of New York; the VFW; and American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, Douglas Newkirk of Crystal River, Fla.; daughters, Anna and husband Bob Conkling, Marlene and husband Martin Archer all of Crystal River, Fla., Linda and husband Paul Gadke of Homosassa, Fla.; sons, H. Pete Lazier of Middletown, Robert Lazier of Middletown; stepson, Douglas Newkirk Jr. of Middletown; stepdaughter, Terri and husband Mark Matthews of Middletown; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She died peacefully at home with family and Hospice in attendance.

TANNER MATTHEW EHLERMANN

Westtown, N.Y. - Tanner Matthew Ehlermann, of Westtown, NY, entered into rest September 6, 2004 at Westchester Medical Center. He was a twelve day old infant. The son of Matthew & Daphne Ehlermann, he was born August 25, 2004 in Middletown, NY. Survivors include his parents, Matthew & Daphne Ehlermann; sister, Danielle Ehlermann; grandparents, Fred Ehlermann, Joseph Ahearn and Deborah Ahearn and Glenda Hancock. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 8, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, September 9, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Cornelius, Dodd & Connell Funeral Home, 26 Grove Street, Middletown, NY. Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 9, at 11 a.m. Services will be held at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Hill cemetery in the town of Waywayanda, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital Foundation, 1 Kid's Corner, Building Nine, Valhalla, NY 10595. MONTEZ PEARSON

Memphis, Tenn. - Montez Pearson, a former resident and school teacher for 16 years at the Newburgh Headstart, died Friday, September 3, 2004. She was born February 2, 1921 in Memphis, Tenn. Survivors include her husband Edward Pearson of Memphis, Tenn, married for 65 years; five sons, James E. Pearson Sr. of Houston, Texas, Melvin Pearson, of Leesburg, Fla., Herman and Percy Pearson, both of Newburgh, N.Y., Larry Pearson of Tampa, Fla.; one daughter Trenda Pearson of Memphis, Tenn; two sisters-in-law, Anne Mae Ware of Baton Rouge, La. and Viola McKensie of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and other family and friends. She was predeceased by a son, John Pearson and one daughter, Gloria Ann Pearson Toh. Correspondence can be sent to Herman Pearson at 8 Pleasant View Ave., Newburgh, NY 12550. ROBERT JOHN "BOBBY" MATTEINI

Monticello, NY - Robert John Matteini, a painting contractor and 5 year area resident, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2004 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 42. The son of Raoul J. and Carol A. Sheid Matteini, he was born on January 6, 1962 in Englewood, NJ. Bobby attended the White Lake Reformed Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his parents, Raoul and Carol Matteini of Sanford. FL; 2 brothers, Russell J. Matteini and his wife Michele of Lake Mary. FL and Raoul J. Matteini II of Monticello and 1 niece, Sierra Rose Matteini, daughter of Russell and Michele Matteini. KAY SANO

Highland, N.Y. - Kay Sano, a 32-year resident of Highland and a CNA for Hudson Valley Nursing Center in Highland, retiring in 2000, died September 5, 2004. She was 69. Born September 5, 1935 in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of Frank Mattson and Theresa Forbes. She married Nunzio Sano on April 16, 1955 at Mt. Carmel Church, Bronx, NY. He predeceased her on September 27, 2002. Survivors include four daughters: Theresa Wilson of Highland, Angela Palmateer of Highland, Audrey DiLorenzo of Highland and Nicole Sano of Highland; one son, Jack Sano of Lantana, FL; one sister, Eileen Lawston of Highland; one brother, Mancy Mattson of Mexico; 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, also several nieces, nephews and cousins, also her adopted daughter, Elaine Lindquist of Highland. Calling hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home Inc., 38 Main St., Highland. ANGELINA F. MASEFIELD

Chester, N.Y. - Angelina F. Masefield, a homemaker, died Monday, September 6, 2004 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Horton Campus, Middletown. She was 95. The daughter of the late Antonio Fazio and Frances Leggio Fazio, she was born November 11, 1908 in Port Murray, N.J. She was a member of St. Columba R.C. Church, Chester; and the Chester Golden Age Club, Chester. Survivors include two sons, Ciro "Jerry" Masefield and his wife Helen of Fair Lawn, N.J., Anthony Masefield and his wife Paula of Broken Arrow, Okla.; one daughter, Marian Desharnais and her husband Jeff of Chester; two sisters, Lena Re and Rose Pompilio both of Washington, N.J.; 13 loving grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Josephine and Mary. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, September 9 at the Donovan Funeral Home, 82 S. Church St., Goshen. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, September 10 at St. Columba R.C. Church, 27 High St., Chester. Interment will be in St. Columba cemetery, Rt 94, Chester. PAT TRITTO

Monroe, N.Y. - Pat Tritto, of Monroe, died September 5, 2004. He was 84. Pat was born in Italy on August 28, 1920 to John and Rosa (Strippoli) Tritto, and came to the US in 1927. Mr. Tritto had been a resident of Blooming Grove for 44 years and prior to that a resident of the Bronx, N.Y. He worked for Ford Motor Co. in Mahwah, N.J. for 28 years, retiring in 1981 and was a member of U.A.W.U. Pat was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army. He married Yolanda Carpentieri in 1949 in St. Roch's Church in the Bronx. Pat is survived by his wife, Yolanda; daughters, Nancy and her husband John Seifts of Lake Pleasant, N.Y. and Nina Tritto of Washingtonville; two grandchildren John T. and Matthew F. Seifts; a brother, Anthony of Queens, N.Y.; and a sister Anna Maria Cumella of Alpine, N.J. He was predeceased by two brothers, Mauro and Charles. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Donovan Funeral Home, 82 S. Church St., Goshen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Washingtonville, N.Y. with burial to follow in Orange Co. Veterans cemetery. BESSIE POWELL RUGER

Walden, N.Y. - Bessie Powell Ruger of Walden, NY, a retired office Clerk for Spence Engineering, Walden and a lifetime resident of the area died Tuesday, September 7, 2004, in Goshen. She was 81. The daughter of Harold and Mary Elizabeth Gale Powell, she was born October 12, 1922 in the hamlet of Wallkill New York. She was a member of the Wallkill Reformed Church; a fifty year member of the Grange including: Clintondale Grange #953, Ulster County Ponoma Grange #38, past Lecturer of Plattekill Grange and a member of the New York State and National Grange. She enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening. Survivors include her husband Arnold R. Ruger at home; sister, Marion Harp of New Paltz, several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, September 9, 2004 from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. at The Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St.Walden, NY. Services will be Friday, September 10, 2004, 11 am at Millspaugh Funeral Home. Rev. Toni Macon will officiate. Burial will be in New Hurley cemetery in Wallkill, NY. MARY T. McKENNA

Greenwood Lake, N.Y. - Mary T. McKenna, of Greenwood Lake, a homemaker and longtime resident of the area, died on Monday, September 6, 2004 in Goshen. She was 91. The daughter of the late Michael and Anne Keenan Kelly, she was born on June 27, 1913 in Manhattan, N.Y. She was the widow of John F. McKenna. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church. Survivors include her four sons, Bill and his wife Rose of Toms River, N.J., John and his wife Phyllis of Port Jefferson, N.Y., Jerry of Uniondale, N.Y. and Michael and his wife Jean of Uniondale; her two daughters Anne Littler and her husband Peter of Chester and Elizabeth Nicholson and her husband Tucker of Greenwood Lake; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, September 8 and Thursday September 9 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Storng-Basile Funeral Home, 4 Oak St., Greenwood Lake. GERTRUDE S. WALKER

Harvard, N.Y. - Gertrude Walker, 87, of Harvard, NY, passed away peacefully, Sunday, September 5, 2004 at her daughter, Ellen Craig's home in Wallingford, CT. She was born March 16, 1917 in Astoria, NY, the daughter of Ellen and Axel Swenson. She was the wife of Joseph Walker, and sister of Elsie Walker both predeceased. Gertrude was a practicing beautician for over 50 years. "Gertie", as she was known to her friends and family, lived life to the fullest and experienced great joy in raising and watching her family flourish; which is her legacy. Gertie is survived by six children: George and his wife Sandy of Brookfield, CT, Joseph of Quincy, MA, Ellen Craig of Wallingford, CT., Richard and his wife Rita, of Oviedo, FL., Alan and his wife Vickey, of Salt Lake City, UT, and David and his wife Angie, of Downsville, NY. She was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 21 great- grandchildren. Funeral services are being handled by the Knorr Funeral Home in Downsville, NY. WESLEY C. ACKERLEY

Liberty, N.Y. - Wesley C. Ackerley of Liberty, NY, an accountant and co-owner of Ackerley & Pearsall Accounting of Liberty, NY, died Monday, September 6, 2004 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center, Harris, NY. He was 71. The son of Margaret McGuire Ackerley and the late Arnold Ackerley, he was born August 6, 1933 in Curry, NY. Wes was a life long area resident, a member of the National Association of Tax Professionals and a member of the National Society of Accountants. Survivors include his mother, Margaret Ackerley of Jeffersonville, NY; four brothers: Richard Ackerley of St. Paul, NC, Eugene Ackerley of Grahamsville, NY, Arnold Ackerley Jr. of Hurleyville, NY and Donald Ackerley of Hope Mills, NC; six sisters: Marian Wegman of Swan Lake, NY, Marjorie Fairbairn of Swan Lake, NY, Caroline Johnson of Fayetteville, NC, Virginia Kiefer of Jeffersonville, NY, April Malara and her husband Robert of Jeffersonville, NY and Cindy Barber and her husband Edward of White Lake, NY; several nieces and nephews; his long time business partner Sherry Pearsall and her children: Lena and William and dear friend, Audrey Wilson. WALTER C. CONKLIN

Chester, N.Y. - Walter C. Conklin of Chester, a lifelong area resident, and a retired school bus driver for Ramapo Valley Rapid Transit in Hillburn, died Monday, September 6, 2004 at Orange Regional Medical Center, Goshen. He was 75. The son of the late Elias Conklin and Elsie Schultz Conklin, he was born November 17, 1928 in Suffern. He was the widower of Estella Straut Conklin. He was a former police officer for Suffern Police Department. He was a member of Washingtonville V.F.W. Post # 8691 and a veteran of the United State Army, serving during World War II. Survivors include one son, Walter J. Conklin of Montgomery; three daughters, Estella Chucka of Orlando, Fla., Dorothy Smith of Monroe, and Eleanor Bamond of Chester; one brother, Richard Conklin of Haverstraw; two sisters, Mary Anzalone of Monsey and Elsie Mae Boycott of Haverstraw; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. CECILIA M. WHITE

Middletown, N.Y. - Cecilia M. White, a longtime Middletown resident, died Friday, September 3, 2004 at home after a courageous battle with bone cancer. Daughter of Harold Reilly, deceased and May Baum Reilly of Chester, N.Y., Cecilia was born on March 15, 1949 in Jersey City, N.J. Cecilia was a member of the Scotchtown Presbyterian Church where she had served as Deacon, Youth Group leader, Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher. She had also served on the Meals on Wheels Board of Directors. She is survived by her husband Alan C. White at home; one daughter, Michelle L. Cornelius and her husband James of Middletown; one granddaughter, Kaitlin M. Cornelius of Middletown; one sister, Margaret Reilly and her family of Chester; one brother, Steven Reilly and his family of Elizabethtown, KY; two brothers-in-law: Jeffrey White, his wife Michele and daughters Danielle and Heather, Clifford White and his wife Patricia, all of Middletown; mother and father-in-law, Rose and Ralph White of Middletown. Cremation and burial of cremains will be private and at the convenience of the family. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 10 at 7 p.m. at Scotchtown Presbyterian Church, 367 Blumel Road, Middletown, N.Y., Pastor Jean Risley officiating. CHARLES E. JONES SR.

Marlboro, N.Y. - Charles E. Jones Sr., a 52 year resident of the area, died September 5, 2004 at Vassar Bros Hosp., Poughkeepsie, NY. He was 72. The son of Ernest Jones and Doshie Frost, both deceased, he was born September 22, 1931 in Little Rock, AR. He was the husband, for 52 years, of Sally DuBois. A family statement read: "Dad was a hard working man who loved country music and always put his family 1st; was always there for us; and never wanted anything in return but our happiness. Having him for our father made us the proudest and happiest family. Thanks Dad, your loving wife and children. Mr. Jones was an Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of Local 17 and Marlboro-Milton Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife Sally DuBois Jones; sons: Charles & Roseann Jones Jr. of Newburgh, William "Billy" & Debbie Jones of Marlboro, Ernest & Helene Jones of Marlboro; daughters: Carol Gekakis of Marlboro, Susan Jones of Phoenix, AZ, and Jennifer Jones of Poughkeepsie; brothers: Harmon Jones, Ernest Jones, Vernon Jones and Otis Jones, all of Arizona; granddaughters: Ann Marie Hayner, Renee Gekakis and Danielle Gekakis, ; grandsons: Williams Jones Jr., Paul Gekakis Jr., Matthew Gekakis, Dominick Jones, Christopher Jones, and Jonathan Jones; great grandchildren: Connor Hayner, Jeffrey Hayner Jr. and Emilee Jones, also several nieces and nephews. RALPH "RON" MORGAN

Clintondale, N.Y. - Ralph "Ron" Morgan, of Clintondale, a self-employed plumbing & heating professional and lifetime resident of the area, entered into rest suddenly on Monday, September 6, 2004 in Connecticut. He was 53. Ron was born June 29, 1951 in Newburgh to Ralph and Josephine Goldy Morgan, who survive in Newburgh. A member of Gardnertown United Methodist Church, Ron owned and operated R. Morgan Mechanical with his son in Clintondale. He was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy and was an avid fisherman. A family statement read "Our Dad was a well-loved person, devoted loving husband and father, and a friend to all that came into his life. He was a dedicated golfer; deep sea fisherman and NASCAR fan. He worked very hard to achieve the lifelong dream of owning his own company with his son. Everyone that knew our dad knew that he was a very special person. He will be deeply missed by all." Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Geraldine "Geri" Cables Morgan, at home; his daughter, Aimee Conklin and her fiancé Bruce McAllister of Ohio; his son, Andrew Morgan of Clintondale; his brother, Stephen Morgan and his wife Pat of Wallkill; his sister, Susan Luciano of Bethel; his grandchildren, Sierra Conklin, Austin Conklin and Bridgett McAllister, all of Ohio; nieces and nephews, Heather, Holly, Chris and Scott Hagar, Kyle, Tyler, Cheyenne and Ryan Morgan, and Jenn and Matt Luciano; many, many good friends, and his puppy Zoe. He was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Morgan Hagar. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 9 at the Brooks-DiDonato Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Avenue, Newburgh, NY 12550. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 10 at Gardnertown United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Gardnertown cemetery, Newburgh. .
