Johannes Hart Snyder, 87, of Richmond, Va., died Friday. He graduated from Syracuse University School of Journalism and was a member of Sigma Delta Chi journalism fraternity and vice president of Theta Chi social fraternity. He had worked in the city newsroom of The Post-Standard in Syracuse and managed its news bureaus in Pulaski, Oneida and Oswego. He served as a reservist in the Coast Guard at the Oswego Coast Guard Station and moved away in 1946. Cremation Society of Virginia, Richmond, has arrangements.

James R. Switzer

James R. Switzer, 79, of 229 Dunham Road, Martville, died Monday. He was born in Hamilton. He was a self-employed automobile mechanic and parts dealer and had also operated a small-equipment repair business. His wife, the former June Strong, died in 2000; a son, Glenn, died in 1957. Survivors: Four daughters, Judy Husted of Littleton, N.H., Linda Dano of Pulaski, Karen Cooler of Summerville, S.C., and Ellen Weaver of Moncks Corner, S.C.; eight sons, Jimmy Switzer of Central Square, Danny Switzer of Ilion, David Backus of Horseheads, Jack Switzer of Greene, Frank Switzer of Syracuse, Steve Switzer of Beaufort, S.C., Charles Switzer of Pulaski and Earl Switzer of Whitney Point; several sisters and brothers; 47 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren. Charles G. Thompson, 80, of Baldwinsville died Tuesday. Born in Allen, Mich., he lived in the Syracuse area since 1946. He retired in 1987 as a welder at Griffin Environmental in Syracuse. He was a communicant of St. Augustine's Church in Baldwinsville. A daughter, Sandra Roach, died in 1970. Survivors: His wife, the former Sharon C. Genito; a daughter, Joanne Berger of Niagara Falls; a son, Carlo G. of Martville; a sister, Dorothy Strolhl of Stevensville, Mich.; three halfsisters, Janice Rushlow of  Texas, Dale Webster of Burr Oak, Mich., and Donna DeHoff of Michigan; five halfbrothers, Max Woodman of Michigan, Darwin Woodman of Florida, Dwayne Woodman of Montana, Lloyd Woodman of Indiana and Dale Thompson of  Texas; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Services: 9 a.m. Saturday in St. Augustine's Church. Burial, private. Calling hour, 8:30 to 9 a.m. Saturday in the church. Falardeau Funeral Home, Baldwinsville, has arrangements. Gary L. Tuttle, 48, of Newfield died Tuesday. Born in Cortland, he lived in Homer most of his life before moving to Newfield about three years ago. He was a maintenance worker at the Marriot Hotel in Ithaca. His mother, Joyce A. Tuttle, died in 2000. Survivors: Two sons, Todd B. of McGraw and Chad M. of Homer; his father, Ralph E. of Homer; two sisters, Tina M. Caldwell of Homer and Carol A. Mae Kuney Tyhanic, formerly of Standart  Woods and Schwartz Towers, Auburn, died Tuesday at Finger Lakes Center for Living in Auburn. Born in Seneca Falls, she attended Auburn City Hospital School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse and had worked for Seneca Falls, Auburn and Auburn Prison hospitals. She was a member of St. Mary's Church. Her husband, Frank, died in 1980. Survivor: A brother, Burt Kuney of Waterloo. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Farrell's Funeral Service, 84 South St., Auburn. Anna Florio Viscome, 90, of Syracuse died Wednesday at James Square Health & Rehabilitation Centre. She was born in New York City. She retired in 1975 from W.T. Grant Co. after 20 years. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Pompei Church and a former member of St. Anthony Society. Her husband, Joseph, died in 1960; a son, Sam, died in 2001. Survivors: A son, Anthony of Syracuse; a sister, Emelia Florio-Paolillio of Italy; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Henrietta Kline Thomas Williams, 84, of Waverly, Ohio, died Monday. Born in Shickshinny, Pa., she lived in Cortland many years before moving to Waverly 12 years ago. She had worked at Cortland County Court House and was a member of Homer Methodist Church. Her husbands, Henry Thomas and William Williams, died previously. Survivors: A daughter, Johann Vandenburg of Cortland; a son, Henry Thomas Jr. of Waverly; a sister, Molly Hubbard of Syracuse; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild. Helen May Rooney Brown, 99, of 131 W. First St., Oswego, died Wednesday. Born in Oswego, she attended Oswego Normal School. She lived in Wellsley, Mass., for 40 years before moving back to Oswego. She had worked at Hathaway Bookstore in Wellsley for several years. She was a homemaker, a member of First United Methodist Church in Oswego and a Red Cross volunteer. Her husbands, Frederick Hayes LeFaivre and Earl D. Brown, died previously. Survivors: A daughter, Helen M. Russo of Chelmsford, Mass.; a son, Frederick H. LeFaivre of Littleton, N.H.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Memorial services: 10 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church. Private burial will be in Wellsley, Mass. Barbara A. Goodnow, 57, of Simi Valley,  Calif., died Monday of cancer. Born in Syracuse, she graduated from St. Lucy's Academy in 1962 and lived at 811 Milton Ave. in Syracuse for many years until moving to Simi Valley in January. She retired in 1999 as manager of the Central New York Regional Flea Market after 13 years. She had been a crossing guard for the city of Syracuse for 15 years and was a communicant of St. Brigid & St. Joseph Church in Syracuse. Survivors: Her caregiver, Jo Angela of Simi Valley; three sisters, Mary Lavine of Homer, Kathleen Leonardo of Mattydale and Janice Michalak of Solvay; two brothers, James C. of Onondaga Hill and Charles R. of Syracuse. Ann C. Stewart, 70, of Pulaski died Thursday. Born in Pittsburgh, she also had residences in Brennan Beach and Bradenton, Fla., and previously lived in Liverpool. She was a homemaker. Survivors: Her husband of 52 years, Ronald W.; four daughters, Theresa Schneider of Sunnyvale,  Calif., Tracy Parillo of Gautier, Miss., Tori Coats and Tamara Stewart, both of Liverpool; three sons, Timothy of Perkinston, Miss., Thomas of Ontario,  Calif., and Senior Master Sgt. Helen C. Russell Cappon, 94, formerly of Olean, died Aug. 4. Born in Allegany, she lived in Syracuse for 30 years, moving away in the early 1990s. She was a graduate of St. Elizabeth's Academy and the Olean General Hospital School of Nursing. She was a private-duty nurse and floor supervisor at St. Francis Hospital, Olean. She was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean. Her first husband, Leon J. Russell, died in 1958; her second husband, Marvin T. Cappon, died in 1989. Survivors: Two sons, Richard J. Russell of Olean and David R. Russell of Baltimore; a daughter, Ann Dygert of Stuart, Fla.; three stepsons, Marvin T. Cappon of Rochester, Paul Cappon of Fayetteville and Jerry J. Cappon of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Eileen Dwyer of Fairport; three sisters, Evelyn Engstrom of Allegany, Teresa Simms of Lilburn, Ga., and Ruth Simms of New Port Richey, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; many stepgreat-grandchildren. Bruce M. Ebert, 81, of 319 Valley Road, Fernwood, died Wednesday at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego. Born in Cardiff, he graduated from Fairmount High School and lived in Syracuse before moving to Fernwood 50 years ago. He retired in 1983 from New York Telephone Co. after 35 years. He was a member of Fernwood United Methodist Church and Pioneers of New York Telephone. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors: His wife of 56 years, the former Monica Williams; two daughters, Susan J. Murray and Dawn M. Holynski, both of Fernwood; a son, David B. of Chittenango; a sister, Marana  White of Syracuse; eight grandchildren. Services: 3 p.m. Saturday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home. David L. Levac, 50, of 800 Irving Ave., Syracuse, died Thursday after suffering a stroke. Born in Massena, he graduated from Massena High School. He was a disabled veteran and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Lisle R. Simpson, 67, of Plainville Road, Baldwinsville, died Wednesday. Born in Lorraine, he lived in Baldwinsville most of his life. He retired in 1989 as an equipment operator for Onondaga County Department of Public Works after 25 years. He was a member of Plainville United Church of Christ and a former member of Onondaga County Fire Police Association. He was a life member of Plainville Volunteer Fire Department. His second wife, Marie P., died previously; a daughter, Kathleen Slater, died in 2001. Survivors: His wife of three years, the former Margaret Moore; four daughters, Dominique M. Simpson of Baldwinsville, Patricia Simpson and Joanne Correlli, both of Syracuse, and Norma J. Pulis of North Syracuse; two sons, James O. of Fulton and John F. of Georgia; three stepsons, Ryan, Brian and Brett Moore, all of Bernhards Bay; his mother, M.
