Kenneth H. Mulligan
Saranac Lake- Kenneth H. Mulligan 89 of 124 Charles St. in Saranac Lake Died Thursday June 4, 2009 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

He was born in New York City. Kenneth Mulligan was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, from July 18, 1938 thru March 11, 1946. While home on leave in 1944 he met Florence Muncil who he then married April 21, 1946 at St. Bernards Church in Saranac Lake. He Had several jobs through out his life and the most recent was nutritionist aid for Uhlien Mercy Center in Lake Placid for over 25 years were he then retired in 1989. He had then became a Foster Grandfather for ACAP Headstart in Saranac Lake. His wife of 57 years had past away August 20, 2003.

He is now survived by three Daughters Patricia Mulligan, Julia and Husband Gene Taylor, Kim Mulligan and son-in-law Kevin Fleming all of Saranac Lake. One Son Charles Baker and his partner Lauretta Love of Tennessee. He also had seven Grandchildren A very Special Granddaughter Carla Flemign and a special grandson Patrick Keese who helped care for him. Other Grandchildren are Jessica Fleming and her partner Ryan Branchaud of Lake Placid, Cissy Taylor, Casey and hid wife Amber Taylor, Corey and his wife Kimberly  Taylor all of Saranac Lake, Kenny and Jamie Baker of North Carolina. He also had six Great Grandchildren Ushuaia, Kiah, Cody McDuff Taylor, Andrew  Taylor all of Saranac Lake, Kaitlyn And McCayla Baker of North Carolina. Kenneth also had two sister in laws and a brother in law Helen Muncil, Katie and bob Sawyer all of Saranac Lake.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. Private services will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Saranac Lake.

Friends wishing to remember Mr. Mulligan can make memorial contributions to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home.

Warren S. Moody
Warren S. Moody, 87, died Thursday, May 28, 2009, at home, surrounded by hospice and family, after a long courageous battle with heart disease. Warren was born in Saranac Lake January 11, 1922, to Leslie Clifton Moody and Alma Willson Moody. The family moved to Tupper Lake in 1933 and he graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1939.

He enlisted in the Aviation Cadet Program with Army/Air Corps, serving stateside and in Panama from 1942-1947. A truck driver all his life, he was known by his moniker “WIDE LOAD”, having driven for Kavanaugh Trucking of Tupper Lake and J.E. Farmer of Billerica, MA.

He and the former Ilene Lavoy Tremblay were married November 28, 1969. They returned home to Tupper when he retired in 1984.

Warren was a hunter and avid fisherman – especially on the Raquette River; a member of the Senior Bowling League with Counters Crew; and member of the Arthritic Swim Group.

Warren will live on in the memories of his wife Ilene, his children and stepchildren: Warrene McCarthy of Bloomingdale; Judy and Greg Stinson of Winston Salem, NC; Jack Moody, Tupper Lake; Melody and Art Clarke, Raleigh, NC; Rolene and Pat O’Brien, Chazy; Keith and Janet Tremblay, Alamogordo, NM; as well as the many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also, brother Stanley of Tupper Lake and sisters Marilyn Leroux, Raleigh, NC; Carol and Chubby Leroux, Star Lake. Fondly remembered by his swimming buddies and many good friends, especially Jim Foti.

He was predeceased by his parents, two infant sons, brothers Leonard and Rolland, sister Polly Crary.

There will be no calling hours. The Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake is in charge of arrangements. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Alphonsus Church, Tupper Lake, on Tuesday, June 16 at 11:00 a.m.

Those wishing to make contributions in his memory are asked to consider the TL Rescue Squad, High Peaks Hospice or The Wild Center.

Irvie M. Cole
Irvie M. Cole, age 88, of 143 Ivy Terrace, Tupper Lake, NY died Tuesday, July 01, 2008 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in East Columbia, New Hampshire on October 14, 1919, she was the daughter of Henry and Helen (Hanney) Greer. She married Lawrence Cole, Sr. on May 2, 1940 in Cold Brook, NH. He predeceased her in 1999.

Mrs. Cole had been a resident of Tupper Lake since 1951 coming from Vermont. She delivered the Post Standard paper in the 1950' and 60's and had also worked for the Dress Factory and B.J. Manufacturing in both Tupper Lake and Malone. Mrs. Cole was a foster Grandparent at Sunmount for many years. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and going bowling with her husband for many years. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.

She is survived by three sons Lawrence Cole, Jr. and his wife Gloria of Tupper Lake, NY, Irvin Cole and his wife Peg of Westville, NY, and Bruce Cole and his wife Rebecca of Clovis, NM, two daughters Irvie Robistow of Rochester, NY and Betty Abare and her husband Charles of Athens, AL, four sisters Helen, Vada, Fanny and Anna, two brothers Leonard and Henry Greer, 19 Grandchildren, 20 Great Grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, one son Dale Cole, and one daughter Alta Cole.

Private calling hours and funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Burial will follow at Lake View Cemetery in Tupper Lake.

Douglas Raymond Brownell
Douglas Raymond Brownell, age 56, of 488 Lake Flower Avenue, Saranac Lake, Died Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at his home unexpectedly.

Born in Buffalo New York on June 12, 1952, he was the son of Raymond “Doc” Brownell and Edith Brownell Williams. He married Eileen Vlacancich Brownell July 17, 1976, at Saint Matthews Roman Catholic Church, Dix Hills New York.

Douglas graduated from Bethlehem High School and completed his education at the University at Albany in 1975. He was an entrepreneur and family business owner for thirty years, including Brownell Insurance Agency of Delmar NY, and Gauthier’s Saranac Lake Motor Inn Saranac Lake NY. Doug was a dedicated town leader and served as President of the Town of Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce for two terms. He was also a key player in the coordination of the first canine police unit in the Town of Bethlehem. Above all Doug was an avid skier, paddler, runner and lover of nature and the Adirondacks. He was a regular competitor in the Round the Mountain and 90 Miler Canoe Races.

He is survived by Eileen Brownell of Stuyvesant, NY, two beloved sons, Douglas Raymond Brownell JR of Albany, NY, Daniel Patrick Brownell of Saranac Lake, NY, his mother Edith Brownell Williams of Albany, NY, two sisters, Janet Brownell of Albany, NY, and Joan Duso of Saranac Lake, NY. He was preceded in death by his father Raymond “Doc” Brownell. He will be remembered by numerous relatives and friends.

Calling hours will be held on Monday July 7, 2008, at Applebees Kenwood Avenue, Delmar NY (please fill in address) from three to six pm, with a service to follow, from six to seven pm.

Alton L. Shene
Alton L. Shene, age 81, of 154 Fletcher Farm Road, Bloomingdale, died Monday, June 30, 2008 at his home following a long illness

Born in Vermontville, New York on September 02, 1926, he was the son of Herbert and Florence (Aubin) Shene. He married Peggy Malark on September 25, 1976 in the First United Methodist Church in Saranac Lake.

Alton is retired from the United States Army where he had served from 1945 to 1966 serving in World War II, the Korean War and during the Vietnam War. He received several commendations for his service including three Bronze Stars during the Korean War. Following his retirement from the United States Army Mr. Shene worked as a chef for several years for various area restaurants including the Hotel Saranac for 15 years, and a few colleges including Plattsburgh State and a college in Albany, NY. He was an avid fisherman and woodworker. He had built his own home which he was very proud of. Mr. Shene is a member of the Saranac Lake VFW Post. He also was a member of "TREA".

He is survived by his wife Peggy Shene of Bloomingdale, NY, three step-sons John, Joe and Lee Mandigo all of Saranac Lake, NY, one step-daughter Debbie Mandigo of Troy, NY, four brothers Malcolm Shene of Vermontville, NY, Claude Shene of Lake Clear, NY, Almon Shene of Vermontville, NY, and Gary Shene of Bloomingdale, NY, three sisters Bertha Sawyer of Vermontville, NY, Elliody Bickford of Vermontville, NY, and Laurel Giddings of Vermontville, NY, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, one brother Carl Shene, and one step daughter Ann Mandigo.

Private calling hours and services will take place at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Vermontville.

Interment Services have been set for Jon Shaw, age 60, of 603 Keesesmill Road, Paul Smiths, NY who died on Friday, January 18, 2008 at Adirondack Medical Center

A graveside service will take place at 2:00 PM on Wednesday July 16, 2008 at the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Saranac Lake.

Howard Denis
Howard Denis, 77, of Tupper Lake died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born 10/27/30 in Tupper Lake, Howard was the son of Arthur and Evelyn Boushie Denis,growing up in Tupper Lake attending public school. His high school sports career included basketball and of course football where coach Perry called him his Booster which stuck with him the rest of his life.

He met his life-long best friend and kindred spirit Ann Helen Rice. They married Apr 2, 1952 in Selma Alabama where he was stationed in the USAF, Craig AFB. Soon to be sent to Korea to a war leaving his wife and newborn daughter to hold down the fort in Tupper Lake till his return in Aug of 1954. They enjoyed snowmobiling in the early years and then camping and boating in the later years after raising their 4 children.

He worked on many logging jobs in the later 50's and 60's including Kavanaugh Trucking, driving log trucks for Mr Kavanaugh for many years. Then working as Chief Mechanic for Elliott Hardwood till they closed and then found himself hauling cement for Wilsons, then Tupper Lake Ready Mix till his retirement,

After spending a precious few years in retirement in Hudson Florida with his dear Annie he devoted the rest of his life tending wonderfully to her every need after her illness; touching everyone's heart, friend or stranger who ever witnessed the Love and Devotion he had for his Ann.

He has 4 children Deborah Moody, Cheryl and her husbandTony Mercurio, Maureen and her husband Shawn Hutchins all of TL, Donald Denis of Hollywood, FL, 6 Grandchildren, Stacie and Elliott Thompson, Jessica Arnold, Andrea Matejcik, Shawn and Sarah Hutchins, and 6 Great Grandchildren, Ryan, Alyson, Madelyn, Joshua, Ella, and Lauryn.

He was pre-deceased by Ann, his parents and sister Nora. He is survived by his sisters Mary Denis and Barbara Mose, Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 25th from 5 to 7 pm at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough funeral home in Tupper Lake. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus cemetery on Saturday with full military honors.

Albert C. Lawrence
Albert C. Lawrence, 68, of Greenwood St., Lake Placid, NY passed away Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Adirondack Medical Center Uihlein. He was born in Wilmington, NY January 10, 1940 the son of Chester and Dorothy (Warren) Lawrence. Mr. Lawrence had worked in the maintenance dept. for the Olympic Regional Development Authority at the Olympic Arena in Lake placid, NY.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (DeShane) Lawrence of Lake placid, NY; One son, Albert Lawrence Jr. and his wife Lisa of Wilmington, NY; Five stepsons, Dennis Mills and his wife Claire of Syracuse, NY, William Mills and his wife Snow of So. Carolina, George Mills of Rainbow Lake, NY, Gary Mills and his wife Judy of  Oklahoma and Allen Mills and his companion Beth of  Oklahoma. He is also survived by One Sister Harriet Blaise and her husband Howard of Ausable Forks, NY; Two brothers, Philip Lawrence and his wife Mary Jane of Lake Placid, NY and Leander Lawrence and his wife Sharon of Lake Placid, NY Nine step-grandchildren, 11 great step-grandchildren and several nieces nephews and cousins also survive him.

There are no calling hours. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, August 2nd at 1 P M at North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid. Rev. Kenneth Mihill, Pastor of the Nazarene Church of Lake Placid will officiate. The Clark Funeral home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.

Michael R. Thompson
Funeral services for 50 year old Mr. Michael R. Thompson of Saranac Lake will be held Friday, August 1, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam with Rev. William Hart Pastor of 7 steeples United Methodist Church in Dekalb officiating. Burial will follow in the Bayside Cemetery in Postdam. Friends may call at the Seymour Funeral Home in Postdam on Thursday afternoon and Thursday evening from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. If friends do desire donations may be made in his memory to the charity of one's choice. Mr. Thompson died July 27th in Saratoga Springs, NY the victim of an automobile accident.
Survivors include his wife Cynthia of Saranac Lake, NY, a son Craig Thompson of Ogdensburg, NY, his mother Mrs. Marlene Thompson of Canton, NY, three brothers and sisters in law Gary and Mary Thompson of Englewood, CO, Wayne and Michelle Thompson of Potsdam, Scott and Sally Thompson of Taylorsville, GA, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Michael was born on July 13, 1958 the son of Wilbur and Marlene (Pharoah) Thompson. He graduated from Potsdam High School in 1976. He then completed his Associates degree in Hotel Management at Canton College. .In 1985 Michael married Elisa Adams. The marriage ended in divorce. He married Cynthia M. Buell formerly of Canton in 2003.

Michael worked in the hospitality industry in  Texas, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada for several years before entering a career in automotive sales in 1993 in the Albany, NY area. Over the coarse of his working career Stanley Chevrolet employed him in Saranac Lake, Adirondack Chevrolet in Elizabeth town, and most recently High Peaks Ford sales in Raybrook, NY.

Michael loved his family, and enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, and had a passion for horse racing.

Arrangements are with the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam.

Helen M. Fitzpatrick
Helen M. Fitzpatrick, 75, of Rainbow Lake, NY, and Spring Lake, FL, died peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by her family. Her strong spirit led her to live actively these past 7 years with ovarian cancer.

Helen was the daughter of the late Chester W. and Ellen (Malone) Kilfoyle. She graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1949. While attending Plattsburgh State Teachers College of Nursing she married her high school sweetheart and is survived by the love of her life and best friend of 60 years, Roger. Helen and Roger lived in Albany and Voorheesville, raising their family together. They moved back to the Adirondacks after retiring in 1988. Helen was employed by the Capital District BOCES as a teaching assistant for the hearing impaired. She loved her work with elementary children for 20 years in the Guilderland School System.

Helen and Roger enjoyed 20 years of retirement together. Side by side, they built 3 Adirondack houses, traveled to many National Parks in “The Bounder”, and went to Alaska 7 times to hunt big game and fish with “Uncle Tom”. They loved their home in Spring Lake, Florida where most days you could find mom on the golf course.

In 1988 Helen was instrumental in organizing and collecting over 30,000 signatures to bring to the State Capital, petitioning for what is known today as the North Country Life Flight. It provides critical care to patients in need of air transport in emergency situations to advanced medical facilities.

Helen loved Roger, her family, Rainbow Lake friends, dinner at the boathouse, evening boat rides, nature, lobster and corn, golf, doggies, talking on the phone, laughing and in the evening “Wheel of Fortune”.

Helen was the beloved wife of Roger for over 57 years, and devoted mother of Kathleen (Fitzpatrick) Boado and her husband Ed of Spring Lake, FL, and of Bridget (Fitzpatrick) Lochner and her husband Joseph of Guilderland, NY, and her son Christopher Fitzpatrick of Altamont, NY.

Helen was the dear sister of Patricia (Kilfoyle) Weller and her husband Joseph “Don” Weller of Clarksville, NY, and brothers Thomas Kilfoyle of Kasilof, Alaska, Chester W. Kilfoyle and his wife Therese of North Fort Myers, FL, Francis Kilfoyle and his wife Rosalie of Saranac Lake, NY, and David Kilfoyle and his wife Virginia of Plattsburgh, NY.

She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Rena and Eli Sanchez, Aaron Coon, Cristie-Jo and Devin Fitzpatrick, David and Amelia Lochner and precious great-grandchildren, Zoe and Leora Sanchez.

Many nieces and nephews also survive their Aunt Helen.

The family would like to thank Dr. Phillip Roland of Florida Gynecologic Oncology of Fort Myers, FL and Dr. Patrick Timmins of the Women’s Cancer Care Center in Albany, NY. Your care, dedication and commitment to mom’s life let her live to her fullest with this disease. Our hearts have been touched by the nurses, support staff and all the wonderful people in your offices. Everyones kindness, compassion, and humor always kept mom’s spirit up, these past few years.

The family would also like to express a special thank you to Brenda and Barb of Adirondack High Peaks Hospice of Saranac Lake for taking us through this journey with mom. Your care, humor and comfort have blessed us all.

Florence V. Collela
Florence V. Collela, age 85, of 60 Church Street, Saranac Lake, died Monday, July 28, 2008 at C.V.P.H Medical Center in Plattsburgh.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on March 29, 1923, she was the daughter of Joseph and Lucy (Hammer) Marello. She married Ernest Collela on October 17, 1943 in Saranac Lake. He predeceased her on June 26, 1994.

Mrs. Collela is a life long resident of Saranac Lake and had worked as a nurse for Will Rogers Hospital for 20 years. She later worked for ORDA for 10 years and then for the Saranac Lake High School for 11 years until her retirement in 2005. Mrs. Collela had also served on the Tenants Association Board for DeChantel Apartments.

She is survived by two sons E. Charles Collela of Boca Raton, FL and Gary Collela of Saranac Lake, NY, two daughters Joanne Lewis of Saranac Lake, NY and Sandra Bluteau and her husband Kenny of Hertford, NC; three grandchildren Walter and Brian Lewis of Saranac Lake, NY, and Eric Collela of Saratoga, NY, two great grandchildren Kyle and Adam Lewis of Saranac Lake, NY, one sister Margaret Molloy of Baldwinsville, NY, and one brother Junior Marello of Rochester, NY. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and several brothers and sisters.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Saturday, August 2, 2008 from 9:30 AM - 11-30 AM. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:30 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake.

Jean Burrows
Jean Burrows, age 58, of 61 Heymeadow, Tupper Lake, died Thursday, August 28, 2008 at her home.

Born in Queens, New York on November 29, 1949, she was the daughter of Donald and Grace (Weseman) Burrows. Jean was a long time resident of Newcomb and Long Lake area.

Calling hours will take place at Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM... A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 PM on Wednesday September 3, 2008 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Newcomb Cemetery in Newcomb.

Teresa K. Walsh
Teresa K. Walsh, age 85, of Tupper Lake, NY, died Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Tupper Lake, New York on March 22, 1923, she was the daughter of Frank and Mabel (LaDue) Henry. She married Wilson Walsh on August 14, 1943 at Holy Name Church. He predeceased her on May 3, 1981.

Mrs. Walsh had been a life-long resident of Tupper Lake. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. After her children were grown, she worked for 4-H in Malone, ARC Sheltered Workshop in Tupper Lake and for Franklin County Co-operative Extension in Malone for several years. Mrs. Walsh is a past member of St. Ann Society at Holy Name Church. She was a fabulous cook and loved to work with all kinds of crafts including knitting, sewing, and dried flowers.

She is survived by seven children: Virginia Carrow and her husband Ronald of Lake Placid, NY, Rosemary Godin and her husband Francis of Tupper Lake, NY, Michael Walsh of Roswell, GA, Patrick Walsh of Cadillac, MI, Thomas Walsh and his wife Geraldine of Tupper Lake, NY, Timothy Walsh and his fiancé Eileen McCabe of Rochester, NY, and Amelia Palmer and her husband Paul of Beekmantown, NY, 15 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, one daughter Kathleen Scott, one son Kevin Walsh, three sisters Violet Gagnier, Margaret Blaikie, and Della Tromblay, and one brother Leland Henry.

Calling hours will take place at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Saturday, August 30, 2008 from 10:00 AM to -12:00 Noon. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00 PM on Saturday August 30, 2008 at Holy Name Church., with Rev. Kris Luzon officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Name Cemetery in Tupper Lake.
