He worked at the New York State Thruway Authority and was employed previously at Easy Washer and Olindorfs. He was a member of the Oneida Lake Fishing Association. He was an Army veteran of World War II and received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star.Survivors: Two sons, Stephen of Syracuse and James of Georgia. Pearl A. Bush Hicks, 80, of 44 Cortland St., Homer, died Sunday. She was born in Cuyler. She was a nurse's aide at Cortland Memorial Hospital. Her husband, Donald L., and a son, Donald E., died previously.Survivors: A daughter, Phyllis Dalgado of Homer; two sisters, Nellie Nefsy of Cincinnatus and Ruth Angell of DeRuyter; a brother, Gurdon Bush of Cortland; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. Constance C. Kohles

Constance C. Kohles of Bridgeport died Sunday. She was born in Canajoharie. She was a resident of North Syracuse for 60 years before moving to Bridgeport this year. She retired in 1991 as a self-employed beautician after 31 years operating at Kurl and Klip in North Syracuse. She was a member of the National Cosmetology Association.Survivors: A daughter, Kathy Panebianco of Bridgeport; a sister, Thelma Scott of St. James City, Fla.; a grandson; a great-granddaughter. Charlotte S. Menter

Charlotte Sandler Menter, 89, of West Roxbury, Mass., died Tuesday. Born in Atlantic City, N.J., she lived more than 60 years in Syracuse before moving to West Roxbury in 1996. She was a former member of Temple Adath Yeshurun and a past president of its Sisterhood. She was a former member of LaFayette Country Club and a former chairperson of the Women's Division of Syracuse Jewish Federation. She was a life member of Hadassah. Her husband, A. Solomon, died in 1978.Survivors: Three daughters, Dr. Lois Zachary of Phoenix, Ariz., Joyce Baron of McCoy, Fla., and Roberta Sacks of Wayland, Mass.; a brother, Theodore Sandler of Oxnard,  Calif.; seven grandchildren. Elza Abols Smits, 83, of 108 Tryon St., Liverpool, died Sunday. She was born in Terijoki, Finland, and grew up in Latvia. She retired in 1983 as a supervisor at Burnett Process, Syracuse. She was a member of the Latvian Lutheran Church of Christ. Her first husband, Arturs Kuciers, died in 1944; her second husband, Karlis Smits, died in 1994.Survivors: Two daughters, Vija Lacey and Ilga Smits, both of Liverpool. Services: Were private. She retired in 1979 as a deputy sheriff with the Madison County Sheriff's Department after 10 years. She was a former member of town of Lincoln Republican Committee and Wampsville Parent Teacher Association. She was a former member and past president of Canastota Lionettes and a coach of the Clockville girls softball team. A daughter, Nancy Gail Tuttle, died in 1951; a son, Donald M., died in 1973.Survivors: Her husband of 66 years, Wallace F.; two daughters, Deborah Marshall of Wampsville and Donna Mullett of Syracuse; three sons, Wallace G. of Oneida, Douglas of Jupiter, Fla., and Dan of Varysburg; two sisters, Joan Belpulsi of Port Republic, Va., and Jane Paone of Canastota; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He worked for the Electrolux Corp. for more than 50 years and retired as division manager. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Lowville and the Lewis County Memorial Post 6912. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
