He worked for Homer post office for many years and was a Navy veteran of World War II.Survivors: His wife of 52 years, Dawn; three daughters, Diana Woodward of Homer, Deborah Slater of Cortland and Danene Poole of North Beach, Md.; two sons, Devin of DeWitt and David; a sister, Phyllis  Jones of La Feria,  Texas; a brother, Donald of Preble; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Florence E. Grant O'Brien, 76, of Syracuse, died Wednesday. Born in Watertown, she lived in Syracuse since 1947. She attended Point Loma High School in California and Vocational High School in Syracuse. She was a homemaker and had worked at General Electric Co. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church. She was a volunteer for Senior Companion Program from 1987 to 1998. She founded Mother Goose Nursery School at the former Salt City Homes Housing Project. Her husband, John, died in 1973.Survivors: A daughter, Jacqueline Gerace of Fayetteville; a son, Steven Grant of East Syracuse; a sister, Beverly Carpenter of Hope Valley, R.I.; three grandchildren. John J. "Monk" Curtin Sr., 78, of Capitol Street Extension, Auburn, died Thursday. Born in Auburn, he graduated from Holy Family High School. He retired 18 years ago as a mail handler at Auburn Post Office after 30 years. He was a communicant of St. Hyacinth's Church and a member of the Auburn and state Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame. He was a member of Utopia Club and Knights of Columbus Council 207, both in Auburn. His wife, the former Emily Bojcun, died in 1995. Survivors: A daughter, Mary Curtin Rand of Auburn; a son, John J. Jr. of Auburn; two sisters, Patricia Taber of Clemons, N.C., and Mary Hitchens of Miramar, Fla.; a brother, Donald of Auburn; three grandchildren. Services: 9 a.m. Tuesday in St. Hyacinth's Church. Margot Breslin Engelhardt of Bernhards Bay died Thursday. Born in Albany, she lived in Syracuse before moving to Bernhards Bay in 1982 and also had a home in Port Charlotte, Fla. She graduated from College of St. Rose in Albany. She was a teacher for the Syracuse City School District for 15 years. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church in Cleveland and St. Charles Borromeo in Port Charlotte. She was a member of Irish-American Club in Port Charlotte. Her husband, George, died in 2000. Survivors: A daughter, Ellen Kane of Braintree, Mass.; six sons, Robert of Buffalo, Joseph of Albany, Daniel of Minoa, John of Dayton, Ohio, Mark of Tampa, Fla., and James of Fairfax, Va.; a sister, Sister Elaine Marie Breslin of Albany; 12 grandchildren. Arthur B. Haver, 91, of Syracuse died Friday. He was born in Syracuse. He retired in 1976 as plant supervisor of the installation and repair department of the former New York Telephone Co. after 46 years. He was a communicant and usher at Assumption Church and was president of its Holy Name Society and past president of its Parish Council and St. Joseph the Worker Society. He was a member and past president of Telephone Pioneers of America and a member of the Cerebral Palsy Clinic board of directors. His wife, the former Mary Schemel, died in 2000. Survivors: A daughter, Dr. Virginia M. Haver of Seattle; four sons, Robert J. of Tempe, Ariz., Gerald F. of Tacoma, Wash., Thomas A. of Syracuse and David A. of Tallahassee, Fla.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. He retired in 1998 as a truck driver for the town of Barneveld Department of Public Works. He also drove for Birnie Bus Service in Syracuse for two years and was sales manager for Bankers Life Insurance Co. in Philadelphia, Pa., for 25 years. He was a member of Booneville Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons and Hastings-Parish Veterans of Foreign Wars Post. He was an Air Force veteran. Survivors: His wife, Joan; a daughter, Kelley Payne of Remsen; a son, James; a sister, Sherrill Lang of Parish; three brothers, Bruce of Caughdenoy, John of West Monroe and Michael of  South Carolina.
