Bessie M. Chase
RICHMONDVILLE — Mrs. Bessie M. Chase, 64, of Route 7 East, died Monday, July 13, 1998, at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County following a long illness.

Mrs. Chase was born March 25, 1934, in Andes, the daughter of Herman and Daisy (Ingraham) Miner.

Mrs. Chase was a graduate of the Franklin Central School.

She married Robert D. Chase on June 28, 1953. They resided in Oneonta for several years before moving to Richmondville in 1969.

Mrs. Chase was a member of the Richmondville United Methodist Church.

She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Richmondville Volunteer Fire Department.

Survivors include her husband, Robert D. Chase of Richmondville; two daughters, Linda Tallman of Richmondville and Laurie McLear of Cobleskill; three sons, Robert A., Alan D. and Dale L. Chase all of Richmondville; three sisters, Genevieve Thompson of Treadwell, Barbara Cahill of Stamford and Daisy Miner of Oneonta and 10 grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, at the Tallman's residence and all are welcome to attend, Route 7, West Richmondville.

There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County Fund Development Office, 41 Grandview Dr., Cobleskill, N.Y., 12043.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 68 Elm St., Cobleskill.

Mabel B. Misner
ONEONTA — Mrs. Mabel B. Misner, 92, of Oneonta died Sunday morning, July 12, 1998, at A.O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born in Hobart on May 19, 1906, the daughter of Herman D. and Florence (Craft) Bouton.

She married Philip Misner on May 7, 1955, in Delhi. He died Nov. 5, 1979.

Mabel was a homemaker in her own home.

After high school, she attended Albany Business College.

She was a member of Elm Park United Methodist Church, Oneonta.

She is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Ralph Purchell of Sidney and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 15, 1998, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Frederick Albrecht, pastor of the Otego United Methodist Church, Otego, officiating.

Burial will be in Shandaken Rural Cemetery, Shandaken.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta from 10 a.m. to service time on Wednesday, July 15, 1998, when the family will be present at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Elm Park United Methodist Church, Chestnut Street, Oneonta, N.Y., 13820, in memory of Mabel B. Misner.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Janet Starkey Osmond
MORRIS — Janet Starkey Osmond, 75, of the town of Butternuts died Monday, July 6, 1998, at her residence.

She was born June 10, 1923, in Yardley, Pa., the daughter of Phineas and Ruth Starkey.

She had resided in this area since 1975 and had been a senior companion for the Broome Developmental Center (Edmeston branch).

She is survived by two daughters, Muriel Osmond of Phoenix, Ariz., Janet Attanasio and her husband John of Morris; two sons, Jesse and John Osmond of Morris and her grandchildren who are Jake, Janet and Joan Attanasio of Morris.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 25, 1998, at 2:30 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris with the Rev. Hans Irmer officiating.

Cremation took place at the Hillington Crematory in Morris.

There will be no calling hours and in lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make donations to the Catskill Area Hospice of Oneonta in her memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Margaret G. Snyder
BAINBRIDGE — Margaret G. Snyder, 83, of Bainbridge and formerly of Arkville died, July 13, 1998, at the Nursing Care Facility of The Hospital, Sidney.

She was born Oct. 18, 1914, in Arkville.

She married Charles A. Snyder. He died Feb. 21, 1993.

She was a homemaker.

She has lived in Arkville, Deposit and Bainbridge.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Margaretville.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Carolyn Snyder of Bainbridge; a son-in-law, Thomas Armstrong of West Hurley; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 16, 1998, at 2 p.m. at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville with the Rev. Dr. George Carpenter, officiating.

Burial will be at the Wood Cemetery, Arkville.

Calling hours are Thursday at 1 p.m. until service time.

Funeral arrangements are by Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Pauline VanDermark
EDGEWATER, Fla. — Pauline VanDermark, 78, of Edgewater, Fla. and Unadilla passed away July 10, 1998, at Bert Fish Hospital, New Smyrna Beach, Fla., after a courageous battle with cancer.

Pauline was born Jan. 3, 1920, in Treadwell to the late Earl and Eva (Miller) Decker.

On Oct. 18, 1941, Pauline married Fredrick R. VanDermark in Treadwell.

For many years, Pauline was a resident of Sidney, moving to Unadilla in 1961. In 1970, she and her husband moved to Edgewater, Fla. Prior to moving to Florida, she worked at Amphenol.

Afterwards, in Florida, she studied and became a licensed beautician, owning her own salon. After retiring, she spent the summers in the Tri-Towns area.

Pauline was a member of the Treadwell Methodist Church, the VFW Auxiliary, Ladies of the Moose and the Rebeccas, as well as belonging to a square dance club in Florida.

She loved to travel, having visited nearly all of the 48 continental states and Canada. She also enjoyed working on crafts.

Pauline will be missed by her loving husband of 57 years, Fred; her sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Sharon VanDermark of Bainbridge and Roy and Faye VanDermark of Unadilla. Also by her six grandchildren, Sandra Ross of Sidney, Jeffrey VanDermark of Bainbridge, Jennifer McKee of Bainbridge, Scott VanDermark of Baltimore, Md., Steven VanDermark and Sherman VanDermark of Unadilla and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Harold Sturgess of Hobart and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial gifts in Pauline's name may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Unadilla Emergency Squad.

The time and place of a memorial service for Pauline will be announced at a later date.

Bernhard Lubbers
EAST MEREDITH — Mr. Bernhard Lubbers, 90, of East Meredith died Monday night, July 13, 1998, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

He was born April 21, 1908, in Westenholz, Germany, the son of Frank and Annie Marie (Roer) Lubbers.

He married Bertha Heindlmeyer on Feb. 27, 1933, in Chicago. Mrs. Lubbers died on June 2, 1975.

Prior to coming to the United States, Bernhard was a tool and die maker. After settling in East Meredith, he owned and operated his own dairy farm.

Bernhard loved to farm and also enjoyed bowling.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Donna Lubbers; two sisters, Mia and Anna; three grandsons, Matthew and his fiance, Nicole Carley, Patrick and Ryan Lubbers; two great-grandchildren, Alex and Carly and several nieces and nephews.

Bernhard was predeceased by three brothers, George Lubbers Sr., William Lubbers and Wilhelm Lubbers.

Private funeral services will be held for the Bernhard Lubbers family.

The family will be present at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta on Thursday evening, July 16, 1998, from 7 to 9 p.m. for those who wish may call.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to Robinson Terrace, Route 23, Stamford, N.Y., 12167, in loving memory of Bernhard Lubbers.

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

James Austin Clark
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — James Austin Clark, 62, of R.D. No. 3, died, unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 14, 1998, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was born on May 24, 1936, in Herkimer, a son of Dorothy VanValkenburg Clark and the late Jean J. Clark.

A lifelong area resident, he was a graduate of the Rome School for the Deaf.

On Aug. 15, 1964, he married Rebecca Ritter in St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs.

He was a typesetter by trade and at one time had worked for the Freeman Journal of Cooperstown.

James was a proud man, a loving father and devoted husband. He knew the enchantment of nature and enjoyed animals.

Surviving him are his wife of 33 years, Rebecca; his mother, Dorothy Clark of Newport; two daughters and their husbands, Robin and Christopher Lakata of Utica, Cathleen and Marc Dolbee of Deerfield; two brothers, Jean and his wife, Lucille Clark of Tupper Lake, Thomas and his wife, Joann Clark of Middleville; two sisters, Rosalie and her husband, Donald Stack of Tarpon Springs, Fla., Mary and her husband, Terry Oswald of Spring Hill, Fla.; one granddaughter, Nicole Lakata of Utica; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Ann Canton in 1961.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., 115 Court St., Herkimer.

Interment will follow in Mount View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls.

Calling hours will bw held on Thursday evening, 5 to 8 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the Richfield Springs Volunteer Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Marguerite Ellen McKnight
MOUNT UPTON — Mrs. Marguerite Ellen McKnight, 77, of Medbury Road, Mount Upton passed away Tuesday evening, July 14, 1998, at Bassett Healthcare Center, Cooperstown.

She was born July 28, 1920, in Brooklyn. Marguerite was the daughter of the late John and Marguerite Kerer Hayes.

On Sept. 28, 1979, she married Howard J. McKnight in Dunedin, Fla.

For several years, Marguerite was a waitress at the Dairy Bar-n in Bainbridge.

She is survived by her husband, Howard J. McKnight of Mount Upton; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Denise Casey of Princeton, Mo., Peter and Anna Casey of Tobyhanna, Pa., Patrick Casey of Nichols; two daughters and sons-in-law, Maryann and Herbert Weidman of Mount Upton and Jacqueline and Randy Phillips of Wellington, Fla.; stepson and daughter-in-law, John J. and Betty McKnight of Yeadon, Pa.; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Shriever Johnessee of Dallastown, Pa.; one brother, John Hayes of Lynbrook; 17 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her brother, William Hayes.

Funeral and committal services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 1998, from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Friends are invited to call at their convenience Saturday at the funeral chapel. Her family will be in attendance from 2 to 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts in her name may be made to the Hanna House care of the Bassett Healthcare Center, Atwell Road, Cooperstown, N.Y., 13326, or the Mount Upton Emergency Squad, Mount Upton, N.Y., 13809, or Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y., 13820.
