Sandra (Jones) Lavoy
Sandra (Jones) Lavoy, 68, died Tuesday, September 30, 2008, after a long illness. She had been a resident of the Maple Wood Manor Nursing Home in Balston Spa, NY, for the last few months.

She was born in Tupper Lake on May 6, 1940, daughter of the late Charles and Erma Robinson Jones. Sandra attended the local schools in Tupper and later married Corbin Lavoy. They moved to Balston Spa where Mr. Lavoy operated his own business and there they made their home. He pre-deceased her in 1984.

Sandra was a homemaker most of her life and would always greet you with a smile. She loved doing things for her children and grandchildren and loved to crochet and play bingo.

She is survived by three sons: Dale  Jones and his wife Lori of Balston Spa, Corbin Lavoy of Malta, NY, and Lee Lavoy of Balston Spa; one brother, Roger (Mike)  Jones of Rock City Falls, NY and two sisters, Mrs. Gary (Patricia) Dosztin of Lowville, NY and Charlene Stangle of Balston Spa (presently residing in Ocala, Florida.); three sisters-in-law: Joanne Jones, Selva Jones, and Geraldine  Jones of Tupper Lake, eleven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her very dear friend, Gale Carmichael of Blue Mt. Lake.

Other than her husband and parents, Sandra was pre-deceased by a daughter, Brenda Lee and four brothers: Charles, Donald "Jim", Eugene and Floyd.

A service will be held on Friday, October 3rd, at the Armer Funeral Home at 10:30 AM in Balston Spa. Family and friends will then accompany her to Tupper Lake where she will be buried in the Holy Name Cemetery at approximately 2:30 PM with Deacon James Ellis residing.

Kathleen Ruth Smart
Kathleen Ruth Smart, age 66, of 45 Willow Way, Saranac Lake, died Sunday, September 28, 2008 at home.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on December 04, 1941, she was the daughter of Thomas and Ruth (Bancker) Meehan.

She married Matthew Timothy Smart on August 18, 2002 in Saranac Lake. She was predeceased by her former husband George LaMay in 2007.

Kathleen was a life long resident of Saranac Lake. She attended and graduated form Saranac Lake High School and later attended and graduated from Plattsburgh State College with her teaching degree. She worked for the Saranac Lake Central School District for over 30 years until her retirement in 1999. She had also volunteered at St. Bernard's School in the Library. Kathleen loved to read, travel and going out with her friends. She cherished her poet club meetings on Friday afternoons. She will always be remembered for her great sense of humor which was always one of her best traits. She was always very positive and upbeat and loved her family very much.

She is survived by her husband Matthew Timothy Smart of Saranac Lake, NY, two sons Ned LaMay of Monroe, NY, and Brian LaMay and his wife Liza of Utica, NY; three grandchildren Brandon, Jordan, and Cameron LaMay; one sister Marie Tiblis of Lake Placid, NY; one brother Thomas Meehan, Jr. of Dahlonega, GA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Thursday, October 2, 2008 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. A bible vigil service will take place Thursday evening at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday October 3, 2008 at St. Bernard's Church. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake.

Donna M. LaHart
Donna M. LaHart 61, passed away on Friday, 9/26/08, at her home on Church Pond in Saranac Inn. Born on March 9th, 1947 Donna Marie Miner was “one of nine” children of Claude Miner and Veronica Barry Miner of Lake Placid.

She attended Lake Placid Schools for 11 years before a transfer to St. Pius X took her away from many of her friends during her senior year. Donna married her husband John F. LaHart on September 21st. 1968. She worked as a business representative for New York Telephone in Saranac Lake and New England Telephone in West Warwick, RI. On moving to La Fayette, N.Y. Donna worked as Director of Religious Education in La Fayette, South Onondaga, and Otisco, for the Diocese of Syracuse. She was a court watcher for the League of Women Voters, volunteered at St. Joseph’s Soup Kitchen, den mother for Pack 100, and made wonderful apple pies for the La Fayette Apple Festival.

Filling her role as “Domestic Goddess” she supported John as they moved from Warwick, RI to La Fayette, NY to Bethlehem, Pa to Wallingford, Ct to Abington, Md to Vestal, NY and back to Saranac Lake. She was support, friend, family leader and guide thru 40 years of marriage. She will be missed by family and friends alike

Donna is survived by her husband John of Saranac Inn, her son J. Christopher, his wife Leslie, three wonderful grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua and Kristen of Norfolk Va. and her mother Veronica Barry Miner of AMC Mercy @ Tupper Lake. Donna has five sisters; Carol & Mark Pierce of Norfolk Va. , Claudia & Joe Smith of Wilmington, NY. Pam & Randy Wells of Lady Lake, Fl. Laurie Diehl of Tupper Lake, NY and Anne Lampart of Sugarland, Tx. Three brothers, Barry & Joan Miner of Carthage, NY David & Valerie Miner of Bennington, Vt. and Michael & Naomi Miner of Richland, Ca. There are numerous nieces and nephews spread across the country. She was predeceased by her father, Claude Miner, in 1999.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Monday September 29th from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. A bible vigil service will take place on Monday afternoon at 3:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM on Tuesday September 30, 2008 at St. Johns in the Wilderness Church in Lake Clear with Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Cremation will follow the service.

Terri Jo Holliday (Welch)
Terri Jo Holliday (Welch), age 48, of 9 Prescott Place Apartment #1, Saranac Lake, died Friday, September 26, 2008 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Brunswick, Maine on February 25, 1960, she was the daughter of Leonard and Betty Welch. She married David J. Holliday on September 2, 1993 in Saranac Lake, New York.

Terri Jo graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1978. She later attended and graduated from North Country Community College in 1996 with an Associates Degree in Recreational Management and again in 2004 with an Associates Degree in Business Management. Terri Jo had been employed at the Adirondack Medical Center Environmental Services Department until she had to leave for health reason. Prior to that she had worked as the Bookstore manager for North Country Community College for several years and had also worked for Mountain Lake Academy in Lake Placid as a Counselor. Terri Jo was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 447 in Saranac Lake where she was currently serving as 2nd Vice President.

She is survived by her husband David Holliday of Saranac Lake, NY, one son Michael Ferguson and his wife Amanda of Vermontville, NY, one daughter Heather Savage and her husband Edward of Chazy, NY, one brother Don Welch and his fiancée Julie Armstrong of Hudson Falls, NY, and one grandson Connor Niederbuhl of Chazy, NY, and another grandson due to be born in Feb. of 2009. She is also survived by two step-daughters Kari Hoffman and her husband  Taylor of Ray Brook, NY, and Ashley Holliday of Lake Placid, NY, life long special friends Dorice Nelson Damsky and Sheldon Damsky of Cambridge, NY, and her step-brother Richard Blockston of Danamora, NY. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, her step-mother Barbara Welch, and all her Grandparents.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. An American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Service will take place at 8:00 PM on Wednesday evening at the Fortune - Keough Funeral Home. A memorial service will immediately follow, with Brother William Debono officiating. Burial will take place at 2:00 PM on Saturday October 4, 2008 at the Schroon Lake Community Cemetery in Schroon Lake, New York.

Alice V. Cotter
Alice V. Cotter, 78, of Lake Placid, NY and Marlborough, CT died September 24, 2008 in Nazareth, PA. She was born in New York City July 12, 1930 the daughter of Verena (Blum) and Waldemar Jaeger. She was the wife of Edwin N. Cotter, Jr. Mr. Cotter died August 23, 2001. Mrs. Cotter was the Arts and Crafts Director at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, NY from 1969 to 1993 and oversaw the yearly craft sale by residents. Prior to that she taught art at St. Agnes School in Lake Placid, NY. Mrs. Cotter was a graduate of Hunter College, Class of 1952, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree. She was a long time member of American Association of University of Woman, Catholic Daughters of America, the Garden Club of Lake Placid, John Brown Memorial Association, and an involved member of Saint Agnes Parish: Eucharistic Minister and crafts designer for the annual Christmas Craft Faith. Mrs. Cotter was quite knowledgeable about flowers and had developed the Nature Trail brochure for John Brown's farm in Lake Placid, NY and made several wreaths and decorations for the holiday season. She was extremely talented in many needle arts, "embroidering, tatting and crocheting; she crocheted a winning quilt with all 50 states' flowers in 3D" and crafts. She was a devout Catholic; kind, forgiving, and loving. Mrs. Cotter is survived by her Children, Alice V. Hautman and her husband Donald, Patricia G. Hughes and her husband Kevin and Theresa Vancour and her husband Mark. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Mariel Hautman; Scott, Carol, and Brian Hughes; and Shannon and Meghan Vancour. Calling hours will be held Sunday, September 28th from 2 to 4 PM at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 29th at 9:30 AM at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Lake Placid, NY. Burial will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery.

Donna M. LaHart
Word has been received of the death of Donna M. LaHart, 61, of Church Pond in Saranac Inn who died on Friday morning September 26, 2008 at her home following a long illness.

Calling hours are tentatively set to take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Monday. Audrey St. John
Audrey St. John, of Kiwassa Road, Saranac Lake died suddenly Tuesday, September 23,2008 at her home in Saranac Lake, NY. Audrey was born in Brooklyn, NY October 6, 1928, the daughter of Theodore and Ella (Ohlson) Swenson. Her husband Raymond passed away in Saranac Lake June 4, 2000. She is survived by one daughter, Ellen Meyer of Gabriels, NY, two sons, Raymond P. St. John and his wife Evelyn of Saranac Lake, NY and Richard C. St John also of Saranac Lake, NY. There are also three grand-children, Brianna A. Meyer, Kristyn Richelle Meyer and Marissa Erin Meyer all of Gabriels, NY. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Audrey was a loving and caring mother and was always there for her family. Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home in lake Placid from 4 to 7:00 PM on Friday, September 26, 2008. Funeral Services will be held at the Funeral Home Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at the North Elba Cemetery, Old Military Road, Lake Placid, NY.

Terressa L. King
Terressa L. King passed away Sept. 21, 2008 at the Massena Memorial Hospital.

She was born Jan. 14., 1918 in Saranac Lake where she lived until moving to Potsdam to live with her daughter and son-in-law.

She was predeceased by her mother and step-father Jennie and Gilbert Corbin and brother Amos Rock. On Oct. 5, 1935 she married Maxim King. He predeceased her Oct. 12, 1958.

She is survived by one daughter Joyce and her husband Clarence (Ken) Ward: five grandchildren Brenda Bevilacqua, Dorothy Lalonde, Lynn Talbot, Wayne Ward, Jennifer Starnes, their spouses and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Saranac Lake.

Vincent B. Forrest, Jr.
Vincent B. Forrest, Jr., 72, of Lake Placid, NY passed away Saturday, September 20, 2008. He was born on October 30, 1935 the son of Marion Griffin Forrest and Vincent B. Forrest, Sr. He was a graduate of Gloversville High School, Class of 1953. He graduated from Miami University of Ohio in 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and graduated from Hofstra University with a master of Science in Secondary Education. For 32 years Vincent taught English and social studies on Long Island, 25 of those years at Kennedy High School, Belmore. While there he was very active in union activities. Key Club and Student Advisor, Board Member of Middle Earth Concealing, Board Member of the Merrick Kiwanis Club and member of the Kiwanis New York District Key Club Committee. In 1991 Vincent retired and moved to Lake Placid spending a good deal of his time as administrator of all the Key Clubs in New York State. He received the Key of Honor Award, the highest adult form of recognition from Key Club International. He had been a Member of Lake Placid Kiwanis Club holding the office of President, secretary and Lt. Governor. For several years he was a board member of Mountain Lake Academy as well as being Out Reach Coordinator for Literacy Volunteers. Just recently he was named Distinguished Volunteer of the Year.

Vincent is survived by his wife Patricia (Freeman) Forrest; one son, Vincent B. Forrest III and his wife Eileen; his brother, Phelps Forrest and his wife Sharon; his sister, Lisa Forrest; one niece, Beth Ann Forrest. He is also survived by Ainsley and Ben Forrest, Chris and Michelle Pratt and their children Emily, Elizabeth and Sarah. Tim and Michelle Pratt and their daughter Rebecca.

A memorial Service will be held October 4 at 2:00 PM at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid, NY. There will be no calling hours. A celebration of his life will be held immediately following the Memorial Service at Humdinger Hill on Lake Placid. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake Placid Sinfonietta, Box 1303, Lake Placid, NY 12946, Literacy Volunteers of Essex and Franklin Counties, Box 450, Mineville, NY 12956, or High Peaks Hospice, P.O. Frances B. Perkins
Frances B. Perkins, 74, of School Street, Lake Placid passed away Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, NY. She was born in Lake Placid May 23, 1934, the daughter of Earl and Marguerite (Donnelly) Blinn. Fran was a graduate of the Lake Placid High School Class of 1952 and attended CCBI Secretarial School in Syracuse, NY.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer M. Perkins of Lake Placid, three grandchildren, Quintin Perkins-Fielder, Simone Perkins-Feilder both of Lake Placid and Jasmin Fielder of Syracuse and their father, Charles Fielder, Jr. of Syracuse, NY. Frances is also survived by three sisters: Maryanna Woodruff and her husband Arnold of Saranac Lake, Gertrude Hammer of Reno, NV. and Doris Spotts and her husband Charles of Lake Placid and two brothers, Richard "Brownie" Blinn and Patrick Blinn and his wife Sue, both of Lake Placid. Fran is also survived by two sister-in-laws, Betsy Wilcox and her husband Jack of Florida and Upper Jay, Carol Perkins of Lake Placid and several nieces and nephews that she loved so dearly. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Luke F. Perkins in 2001, her parents Earl and Marguerite Blinn, one sister, Gwendolyn Watson, one niece Tina Watson Lenhart and one aunt, Kathleen Donnelly.

After attending CCBI in Syracuse Frances moved back to Lake Placid in the late 1950's to help her father raise the family after her mothers death. Fran began working for Dr. George Hart as a medical secretary for over 25 years. During that time she married Luke F. Perkins, owner and operator of the Lake Placid True Value Hardware. Frances was a hard worker, devoted wife, loving mother, sister, and aunt. Her greatest joy was her grand-children whom she spent the last few years of her life with.

Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid on Tuesday, September 23 from 5 to 8 PM. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, September 24 at 10:00 AM at the St. Agnes Church. Burial will follow at the North Elba Cemetery, Lake Placid. Memorial donations may be made to High Peaks Hospice, POBOX 840, Saranac Lake, NY 12983 in her memory.

Donna M. LaTray
Donna M. LaTray, 52 of Tupper Lake, died Wednesday September 17, 2008 at her home where she was under the care of her family and North Country Home Health.

Born on December 14, 1955 in Malone NY, she was the daughter of Walter and Anita (Gonyea) Woods.Donna attended Tupper Lake schools.

Donna was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and using the computer. She was a communicant of Holy Name Church.

Donna is survived by her parents, a sister Patricia and her husband Sherman Beaudette of Tupper Lake, Two nieces Tracy LaFlamme and Nicole Logie and a nephew Peter Beaudette all of Tupper Lake. Several great nieces and nephews, and her long time companion Paul Becker.

She is predeceased by her infant brothers Ricky and David, a son Wesley and a daughter Wendy.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Friday September 19, 2008 at 1:00pm at the Holy Name Church.

Daniel A. Hamm
Daniel A. Hamm, age 24, of 179 Cold Brook Road, Vermontville, died Wednesday, September 17, 2008.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on August 18, 1984, he was the son of Donald and Doris (Tuthill) Hamm.

Daniel graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 2002. He had been employed by various businesses in the area including Don Scammell, Inc., Stanley Chevrolet, Wayne Darrah Auto Body, Saranac Lake Civic Center and Gregory Supply. He also had worked many years in the family business, Whiteface Construction. Daniel graduated from the New York State Correctional Academy on March 2, 2006 and currently had been assigned to Green Haven Correctional Facility. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He also loved motor sports, including boating, four wheeling, and motorcycles and just about anything with a motor on it, especially driving the “Hamm”boni at the Civic Center.

He is survived by his father and mother Donald and Doris Hamm of Vermontville, one sister Jennifer Hamm and her fiancé Tim Greenfield of Homer, NY, one brother Darrell Hamm and Jennifer Blocher of Gettysburg, PA, his paternal grandmother Marion Hamm of Vermontville, NY, and his maternal grandfather Francis Tuthill of Bloomingdale, NY, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday, September 19, 2008 from 2PM -4PM and 7PM - 9PM. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday September 20, 2008 at Union Cemetery in Vermontville, with Rev. David Drake officiating.

Floyd Hutchins Jr.
Floyd Hutchins Jr., 80, of Tupper Lake, died Sunday, September 14, 2008 at his home. Born on February 10, 1928 in Tupper Lake, he was the son of Floyd and Eva (Fletcher) Hutchins. Mr. Hutchins attended local schools and went on to graduate from Proctor Academy in Andover, NH in 1946. On June 25, 1949 he married the former Jane Gale at Holy Name Church. Mr. Hutchins worked heavy equipment during the construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway and later the airstrip at Griffis Air force base in Rome. He went on to drive truck for Kavanagh Trucking and St. Lawrence Freightways retiring in 1990. He was a recipient of the Million Mile Award from Mack Truck. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting at the Bear Brook club and Gale Park. He also enjoyed woodworking and was an avid reader. He is survived by his wife Jane of 59 years, three daughters; Michelle Hutchins of Tupper Lake, Devin LaFave and her husband Randy of Plattsburgh, Heidi LaQuay and her husband Terry of Tupper Lake, three sons; Michael and his wife Joanne of Tupper Lake, Shawn and his wife Maureen of Tupper Lake, Patrick of Childwold, 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by two brothers Almanzo and Howard and one sister Genevieve “Sally” Williams. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 16 at 12 noon at the Gale cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad. Arrangements are with the Stuart-Fortune-Keough funeral home.

Barbara Quigley McKillip
Barbara Quigley McKillip, age 76, of 60 Church Street, Saranac Lake, died Monday, September 15, 2008 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on June 14, 1932, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Maria (Keyes) Quigley. She married John "Jack" McKillip April 14, 1956 at St. Bernard's Church. He predeceased her in 1973.

Mrs. McKillip was a life long resident of Saranac Lake and had worked as a registered nurse for over 50 years until her retirement in 1999. She had worked as an RN for various places including Medical Associates, the Old Saranac Lake General Hospital (which is currently North Country Community College) and for a short time at the Saranac Lake General Hospital on Lake Colby Drive. She also worked at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid. Mrs. McKillip was an avid reader.

She is survived by one son James McKillip and his wife Mary Ann of Fredonia, NY, one daughter Molly Burke and her husband Aaron of Saranac Lake, NY, three sisters Ann Crisham, Patricia Dupree and Eileen Swain all of Saranac Lake; three brothers James Quigley of Florida, Thomas Quigley of Staten Island, NY, and Joseph Quigley of Saranac Lake, NY, four grandchildren Caitlin and Justin Burke of Saranac Lake, NY, and Megan and Andrew McKillip of Fredonia, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five sisters Maria Keyes, Betty Owens, Margaret Rice, Kate Wiles, and Marie Peabody and one brother Lawrence Quigley.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. A bible vigil service will take place on Wednesday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:00 PM on Thursday September 18, 2008 at St. Bernard's Church, with Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Following cremation burial will take place in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Saranac Lake.

Jeremy Christopher Quinn, 38, of Church Street in Keene, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2008, as the result of accidental trauma. he was born on March 20, 1970 in New Rochelle, New York, son of Nicholas A. and Patricia K. (Walker) Quinn.

Jeremy was a graduate of Keene Central School and attended Paul Smith's College and North Country Community College. he was employed at the Ausable Club. Over the course of his lifetime, he was a dedicated volunteer fireman with both the Keene and Keene Valley Fire Departments and responded to hundreds of fire and rescue calls. He served as an officer in the Keene Valley Fire Department for many years. He recently became a certified trainer with the American Red Cross for CPR and AED.

He is survived by this wife, Sheryl (Carey) Quinn, and their daughters, Caitlin and Megan; his mother Patricia; in-laws, Alan and Susan Carey of Keene; one sister, Kathleen Quinn of New York City; five brothers: Barrett and his wife Stephanie of Saranac Lake, Michael and his wife Beth, of Saranac Lake, Thomas and his wife, Genny of Keene Valley, Sean of Shelburne, Massachusetts, and Andrew and his wife, Amy of Lake Placid; and sister-in-law Amy (Carey) Cinar and her husband, Sukru of Waltham, Massachusetts. Jeremy is also survived by nine nieces and nephews: Cassie, Lauren, Nicholas, Logan, McCayla, Gabrielle, Eli, Patrick, and Kevin. He is predeceased by his farther, Nicholas, and his brother, James.

Jeremy found great happiness in helping others. He was a dedicated family man, and his greatest pride was his two daughters. He enjoyed every moment he spent with them, whether taking them to ballet and skating, coaching t-ball or teaching them to ski. Jeremy also loved every aspect of entertaining and cooking, and his grilling expertise was often called upon for special events, catered private parties and family functions. He also loved sports and was an avid Yankees and Jets fan.

Calling hours were held at Clarks funeral home in Lake Placid on Sunday, September 14. A Mass of Christian Burial on September 15 at 11a.m. at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid. Memorial donations in the memory of Jeremy Quinn may be made to the Keene Fire Department of Keene Valley Fire and Rescue.
