Paulene D. Letnow
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Paulene D. Letnow, 94, of 5 Walnut St., died on Monday, July 20, 1998, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

She was born on July 3, 1904, in Richfield Springs, a daughter of the late Frank N. and Josephine Lawler Dibble.

A lifelong Richfield Springs resident, she was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School and went on to graduate from the Albany School of Practical Nursing.

On June 26, 1920, she married John W. Letnow in Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs. It was a blessed union of 50 years until Mr. Letnow's passing on June 28, 1974.

Paulene was a nurse by profession, she had worked for the Ilion Hospital and Clark Nursing Home retiring in 1965.

She was a member of Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, the Catholic Women's Club, the Rosary Altar Society and the Richfield Springs Senior Citizens Club.

Surviving her are one son, John F. and his wife, Gloria Jean Letnow of Richfield Springs; three sisters, Jeanette Smith of Springfield Center, Eileen Dibble and Marline Lander both of Richfield Springs and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Bernard and Joseph F. Dibble, and a sister, Regina Clark.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, with the Rev. Francis Husselbeck, pastor officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to Richfield Springs Emergency Squad or the charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements are with the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 5 West James St., Richfield Springs.

Edwina Arnold
MOUNT DORA, Fla. — Mrs. Edwina Arnold, 84, of Mount Dora, Fla. died Friday, March 20, 1998, at Leesburg Memorial Hopsital in Leesburg, Fla.

She was born Oct. 25, 1913, the daughter of Edward and Cordelia (Sanford) Rendo and is a member of the United Methodist Church of Morris.

She married Leslie Arnold of Milford Center in 1933.

Edwina was employed at one time at Bresee's Department Store in Oneonta and Victory Store in Morris.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years Leslie Arnold of Florida; one daughter, Bonnie Sue and son-in-law, Joe  Jones of Orlando, Fla., and one grandson, Timothy  Jones of Florida; one sister, June and brother-in-law, Leslie Crawford of Otego; two sisters-in-law, Jeanette Rendo of Morris and Mille Rendo of Apple Valley,  Calif., and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Sandy Arnold; one sister, Ida Mae Tilly of New Milford, Pa.; two brothers, Fred an Eddie Rendo of Morris.

Burial will be in Hillington Cemetery, Morris on July 24, 1998, with the Rev. Billy Lyons, officiating.

For those who wish, donations may be sent to the Milford Emergency Squad in memory of Mrs. Arnold.

Josephine S. Kurkowski
COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Josephine S. Kurkowski, 94, of Old School Court, Cooperstown, died Tuesday evening, July 21, 1998, at The Meadows.

She was born on March 19, 1904, in Kosczerzine, Poland, a daughter of August and Gertrude (Shulist) Stefanski.

She married Leslie Kurkowski on Aug. 21, 1926. Mr. Kurkowski died in 1959.

Mrs. Kurkowski sailed from Poland with her parents on April 24, 1904, and arrived in New York City on May 4, 1904. Her family settled in Otsego County and Mrs. Kurkowski received her education in the Cooperstown schools.

A resident of the Cooperstown area her entire life, she was first employed as a dental assistant for Dr. Backus from 1944 until his retirement in 1964. From that time until her retirement in the mid 1970s, Mrs. Kurkowski was employed in the home of Mrs. Stephen D. Clark.

She was a member of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown and was a former member of the church choir. She was also a former member of the National Council of Catholic Women.

In earlier years she enjoyed traveling in the United States and Canada.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-grand nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph and Anthony Stefanski, and five sisters, Miss Marrianna Stefanski, Mrs. Frances Atutis, Mrs. Martha Schwori, Mrs. Anna Lasher and Miss Elizabeth Stefanski.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 1998, at St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown with the Rev. John R. Roos, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Mary's Cemetery in Index.

Friends may call at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown on Friday evening, July 24, 1998, from 7 to 9 p.m. when Mrs. Kurkoswki's family will be in attendance.

Expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to The Activities Fund, care of The Meadows, 140 County Highway 33W, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Reinhold Jahnke
SCHENEVUS — Reinhold Jahnke, 93, of Schenevus died Tuesday, July 21, 1998, at The Meadows.

He was born on March 12, 1905, in Mistory, Germany the son of Ernest and Johanna Jahnke.

He married Sophie Basse on May 11, 1929, in Brooklyn. She predeceased him on Sept. 30, 1994.

Mr. Jahnke came to the United States in 1926, then in 1930 he moved to Elk Creek where he owned and operated a dairy farm.

Mr. Jahnke was a member of the Lutheran Church of The Atonement in Oneonta, the Schenevus Valley Grange, the Farm Bureau and the Old New York ABC Eastern Artificial Breeders.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Reinhart and Gloria Jahnke of Milford and Donald and Karen Jahnke of Schenevus; five grandchildren, Mike Jahnke and Mark Jahnke both of Milford, Charlie Jahnke of Schenevus, Louis Jahnke of Stamford, Conn., and Dona Jahnke of Schenevus; five great-grandchildren, Matt, Mitch, Marcus, Miles and Luxie all of Mil"ford; four sisters, Crystal, Lenchen, Margarete and Lutte all of Germany; two brothers, Ernest and Heinz also of Germany and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 1998, at the Elk Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Marsha Irmer, pastor of the Lutheran Church of The Atonement, officiating.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, July 24, 1998, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Mr. Jahnke to the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, Main Street, Schenevus, or the C.H. Graham Hose Company, P.O. Box 116, Schenevus, N.Y. 12155.

Funeral arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus.

Alice C. Morley
DELHI — Alice C. Morley, 71, of 46 Main St., Delhi died Wednesday night, July 22, 1998, at her home.

She was born Jan. 25, 1927, in Providence, R.I., one of nine children of Algot and Anna (Stark) Mellin, who were natives of Sweden.

Alice spent her early life in Rhode Island, coming to New York in 1949 when she married Thomas J.W. Morley. He died in 1986.

A longtime resident of Tuckahoe, Eastchester, she later lived in Wappingers Falls until moving to Delhi 10 years ago where she was a communicant of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church.

Alice had a longtime love of art and enjoyed painting in pastels as well as pen and ink sketching.

Surviving are a son and his wife, Thomas J. Jr. and Kathleen Morley of Delhi; four daughters and their husbands, Kathleen and Christopher Guinn of Winsor, Deborah and James Dumser of Wappingers Falls, Barbara and Jack Haniuk of Port Jervis and Alice and Michael Viafore of Delhi; 20 grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Lillian O'Keefe of Clinton, Theresa Cirricione of Patchogue and Harriet Mellin of Warwick, R.I.; several nieces and nephews and longtime close friends Paul Hermenze of Great Island, Galilee, R.I., and Deborah Nachtreib of Cary, N.C.

Friends are invited to call today at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, where the family will be in attendance from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and a vigil service will be held at 8 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, 1998, at St Peter's Church by the Rev. Fr. Joseph Manerowski, with final commendation and burial following in the Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Contributions in memory of Alice may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Terry Lynn Fuller
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Terry Lynn Fuller, 40, passed away Jan. 7, 1998, at 10 a.m. in Jacksonville, Fla.

Terry was known as "The Traveling Man." He wanted to see everything, but when times got too rough, he always went home to Meridale. He loved this part of upstate New York and felt at peace there where he had grown up on the farm and became a young man.

A special thanks to his brothers, Wayne and Keith Fuller and daughter, Sunshine Fuller.

Loved ones left behind are his wife, Patricia Fuller of Georgia; four children, Sunshine Fuller, Ann  Jones and Jeremy  Jones of Georgia and Julie Fuller of New York; three brothers, Wayne Fuller, Thomas Fuller and baby brother, Keith Fuller of New York; two sisters, Diana  Jones of Florida and Cindy Burgher of New York; three stepsisters, Ruthie, Linda and Tammy, all of New York; four stepbrothers, Allen, Charles, Michael and Donald, all of New York; his mother, Blanche Mertins of New York; his father, Eugene Fuller of New York; stepparents, Richard and Bessie Mertins of New York; Kathy Schaeller of Florida and grandmother, Jean Mallory of Homer; lots of nieces and nephews, close friends and the love of his life.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, July 26, 1998, at 2 p.m. at Pine Grove Cemetery, Meridale.

Helen M. Hoag
MORRIS — A memorial service will be held for Helen M. Hoag on Saturday, July 25, 1998, at the First Baptist Church in Morris at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Norlund officiating. All are welcome to attend.

Violet M. Mattice
ONEONTA — Mrs. Violet M. Mattice, 93, of Oneonta died Wednesday morning, July 22, 1998, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born May 8, 1905, in Berwick, Pa., the daughter of David and Anna (Hower) Loreman.

Violet married Kenneth W. Mattice Sr. on June 7, 1921, in Dallas, Pa. He died May 18, 1976.

Violet lived most of her life here in the greater Oneonta area. She and her late husband, Kenneth, had operated a dairy farm on the Pony Farm Road, town of Oneonta for several years. After they retired they moved to Laurens where they both owned and operated Onatego Kennels until Mr. Mattice's death.

From 1953-1962, Violet had worked for the Enterprise Aluminum Co. here in Oneonta.

She attended the River Street Baptist Church, Oneonta and was a member of the Oneonta Moose Lodge.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kenneth W. and Phoebe Mattice Jr. of Oneonta and David F. Mattice and his friend Shirley of Oneonta; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vivian and Donald Townsend of Oneonta and Jo Ann and Andy Periz of Binghamton. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-granchildren.

She was predeceased by three sons, Winfield, LeRoy and Robert Mattice.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 27, 1998, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta with the Rev. Melvin Farmer, pastor of the River Street Baptist Church, Oneonta, officiating.

Burial will be in the Mattice Family Plot at Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 1998, when the family will be present at the funeral home.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the American Lung Association, 1249 Front St., Suite 105, Binghamton, N.Y. 13905 or to the church of your choice in memory of Violet M. Mattice.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta and Otego.

Richard R. French
SCHENEVUS — Richard R. French, 63, of Schenevus, died Friday, July 24, 1998, on his dairy farm from a tractor accident.

He was born on Feb. 1, 1935, in Greene, the son of Russell and Ethel (Wheeler) French.

He married Marjorie M. Mabie on Oct. 19, 1958, in Schenevus.

French was a United States Navy Veteran serving from 1955 to 1957.

He was a lifetime area resident. He owned and operated his family dairy farm the "Elk Valley Farm" for 40 years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Schenevus, Schenevus Valley Masonic Lodge No. 592, Schenevus Valley Grange and various farm organizations.

He enjoyed reading, traveling and was a sports enthusiast.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie M. French of Schenevus; three daughters, Janet and her husband, John Kostbar of Cooperstown Junction, Cynthia and her husband, David Landry of Rochester, Karen French and her friend, Glenn Zuill of Davenport; sister, Doris Burlarley of Canastota; brother, Jerald and his wife, Kathy French of Norwich; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leland and Patricia Mabie of South Valley and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, a son, Donald, and a daughter, Linda Sue.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 1998, at the United Methodist Church, Main Street, Schenevus with the Rev. Bonnie McGraw, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow at the Schenevus Cemetery.

Calling hours are on Sunday, July 26 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus. A Masonic Service will be held at 8 p.m.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Mr. French to the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 272, Schenevus, the United Methodist Church, Main Street, Schenevus, N.Y., 12155, or the Leukemia Society of America, Central New York Chapter, 847 James St., Suite 201, Syracuse, N.Y., 13203.
