Emma H. Gardner
DELHI — Mrs. Emma H. Gardner, 100, formerly of Otego died Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998, at the Countryside Care Center, Delhi.

She was born July 22, 1898, in Delhi, the daughter of Archie and Hattie (Morton) Hunt.

Emma married Earl W. Gardner on Sept. 20, 1919, in Oneonta. Mr. Gardner died April 7, 1976.

Emma was a homemaker all her life except for a time after her son Kenneth finished school, she was employed by the Glove and Dress Factory in Oneonta for a time.

She was a lifelong area resident. Emma was very active in the Otego United Methodist Church, Otego and was the oldest living member of the church, having been a member since 1913. She was involved with the Mary Broadfoot Bible class, the United Methodist Women and had been a Sunday school teacher for several years. She was also a member of the Women's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) of Otego, a member of the former Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 377 of Otego, the Otego Senior Citizens Club, the Otsego County Senior Citizens and the Otsego Old Boys Club.

Emma is survived by dear friends, Clark and Doris Fisher of Franklin.

She was predeceased by her son, Kenneth E. Gardner who died in 1969 and her sisters, Helen and Ruth.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, from the Otego United Methodist Church, Church Street, Otego with the Rev. Jack Clark, retired minister of Oneonta, officiating.

Burial will be in the Otego Evergreen Cemetery.

Friends may call at their convenience at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 10.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be given to the Otego United Methodist Church, Church Street, Otego, N.Y. 13825, or to the charity of one's choice in memory of Emma H. Gardner.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes of Oneonta and Otego.

Patrick Thomas Cahill
COOPERSTOWN — Patrick Thomas Cahill of Cooperstown and Bronxville died Aug. 2, 1998, at the Rosary Hill Home, Hawthorne.

He was a devoted husband of Margaret; beloved father of Thomas, Lawrence, Patricia, Mary, Anne and Theresa and adored grandfather of 16.

Mildred M. Meredith
NEWBURGH — Mildred M. Meredith, 93, of Newburgh, died of pneumonia on Friday, Aug. 7, 1998 at Manchester Manor Nursing Home.

In earlier years she was involved with the Greater Newburgh Girl Scout Board, Trinity Methodist Church, and was a longtime prize-winning member of the Newburgh Garden Club.

An accomplished pianist, she met her late husband, John H. Meredith, when she played piano for church services in Meredith.

She was a 1927 graduate of Cornell University and member of Delta Gamma Sorority.

A devoted wife and mother, everyone knew her as a true lady.

She leaves a brother, Edwin R. McFarland of Delhi; daughter, Jane Meredith Roche and son-in-law, Leonard S. Roche of South Windsor, Conn.; daughter, Susan M. Bunzl and son-in-law, Dr. Kurt Bunzl of Munich, Germany; three grandchildren, Kevin S. Roche of Lowell, Mass., Meredith Roche Glaser of Gloucester, Mass., and Alexander Bunzl of Munich, Germany; and a great-grandchild, Meryl Glaser of Gloucester, Mass.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, National Office, 919 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1000, Chicago, Ill., 60611-1676.

Mary Strong Pannaci
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Mrs. Mary Strong Pannaci, 83, of 9½ Union St., Richfield Springs, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, Aug. 9, 1998 at her residence.

She was born on July 14, 1915 in Gloversville, the only daughter of William W. and Helen (Martin) Strong.

She married Karl E. Pannaci in May of 1941 in Gloversville. The marriage ended in divorce in 1960.

Mary was raised in Gloversville and graduated from Gloversville High School in the Class of 1933, where she also served as class vice president. As a young woman, she was employed at the family department store, Martin and Nayler's, which was founded by her grandfather, John Martin. Mary attended Wheaton College and Katherine Gibbs and received her retail training at Filene's in Boston.

On June 1, 1977, Mary and her son, "Jud" Pannaci, moved to Richfield Springs when he took over ownership and management of the J. Seaton McCrath Funeral Home. She moved to her present residence in 1989.

Over the years, Mary had been active in church and community organizations both in Gloversville and Richfield Springs. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Gloversville, the Richfield Springs Garden Club, and attended the Church of Christ Uniting in Richfield Springs.

She is survived by her son, Charles "Jud" Pannaci of 9 1/2 Union St., in Richfield Springs; two nephews, William W. Strong of Florida and John Strong-Gruen of Maine; one great-nephew and several cousins.

She was predeceased by a son, Karl Judson Pannaci and three brothers, John Martin, William Ripley and Wilder Cossitt Strong.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, 1998 at St. John's Episcopal Church, Main Street, Richfield Springs with the Rev. John D. Bartle, rector, and the Rev. Loren House, Congregationalist minister, co-officiating.

Cremation will follow at the Waterville Crematorium. A portion of Mary's cremains will be interred privately at Lakeview Cemetery in Richfield Springs and the other portion will be interred in the Strong-Martin Plot at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville at a time to be announced.

Friends may call at the residence at 9½ Union St., in Richfield Springs, on Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998 from 3 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, preferred expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to the Richfield Springs Lioness Club, P.O. Box 842, Richfield Springs, N.Y. 13439; Santa Annonymous, P.O. Box 1, Richfield Springs, N.Y. 13439; or Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are under the direction of James E. Dow and Peter A. Deysenroth, Funeral Directors, of Cooperstown.

Stanley L. Konchar
HYDE PARK — Stanley L. Konchar, 87, of Hyde Park and formerly of Christian Hill, died Sunday evening, Aug. 9, 1998, at his home.

He was born on Jan. 31, 1911, in Fleming, Kan., a son of August J. and Antoinette (Ocakar) Konchar Sr.

He married Albina Cop on Feb. 14, 1942, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Cooperstown.

Stan moved from Kansas with his family at age 3 to the Cooperstown area. He worked as a dairy farmer for most of his life, owning and operating the family dairy farm on Christian Hill in partnership with his brother, Gus Konchar. In addition to farming, Stan sold farm machinery and did carpentry work. He and his wife Albina moved to their present home in Hyde Park in 1996.

Stan was a member of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Albina of Hyde Park; one daughter, B. Jane Konchar of Hyde Park; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary and Frank Kukenberger of Cooperstown and Mrs. Frances Linich of Richfield Springs; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, William H. and Eileen Konchar, Joseph R. and Dorothy Konchar, all of Milford, and Edward J. and Dorothy Konchar, and Anthony J. Konchar, all of Maryland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by one son, Steven Alan Konchar who died July 19, 1963; three sisters, Mrs. Anne Mole, who died in 1985; Mrs. Pauline Kralj, who died in 1989; and Mrs. Antonio Giel who died in 1995; and three brothers, Frank J. Konchar, who died in 1978; Albin J. Konchar, who died in 1992; and August "Gus" J. Konchar Jr., who died in 1997.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13, 1998, at St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown with the Rev. John R. Roos, pastor, officiating. Burial will be private in St. Mary's Cemetery, Index.

At the request of the family there will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

George L. Connell
COOPERSTOWN — George L. Connell, 74, of 82 Chestnut St., died Monday afternoon, Aug. 10, 1998 at his home.

He was born on March 28, 1924 in Endicott, a son of the Rev. Fred'rick W. and Eunice G. (Hopler) Connell.

George was raised in Endicott and attended schools in West Pittston, Pa., Sidney, Binghamton and Oxford. After moving to Cooperstown in 1940 he graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1942. In January of 1943 George was inducted into the United States Army and served his country during World War II as a surgical technician with the 392nd Anti-aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion in the Pacific Theatre. He was honorably discharged in February of 1946 with a rank of Staff Sergeant.

A 1947 graduate of Eckels College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia, Pa., George was employed at the George H. Scholderer Home for Funerals in Binghamton from January 1948 until January 1952. He returned to Cooperstown in January 1952 and was employed by Mr. and Mrs. Chester W. Ingalls.

In 1970 he purchased the Ingalls Funeral Home with James E. Dow and served as President, Treasurer and Manager of Ingalls, Connell & Dow, Inc. until his retirement in March of 1986. Following his retirement he continued to make his home at 82 Chestnut St. and assisted at the funeral home when needed.

George was an honorary member of the Ninth District New York State Funeral Directors Association, a member of the Sgt. Walter P. Eggleston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7128 in Cooperstown, a member of the Otsego County Republican Committee, and was currently serving as Treasurer of the town of Otsego Republican Committee.

An avid car enthusiast, he was a former member and past director of the Empire State Region of the Classic Car Club of America. George enjoyed music and in earlier years played the organ in area churches for Sunday services and weddings. He also enjoyed playing the piano and attending church and theatre organ concerts.

As a resident of the village of Cooperstown for over 50 years, he was a member of the Native Sons of Cooperstown, was a member and past secretary of the Lions Club of Cooperstown and a 38 year member of Otsego Lodge No. 138, Free and Accepted Masons in Cooperstown.

George enjoyed his work as a volunteer at the information desk at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital and his daily visits to the Cooperstown Diner and Stagecoach Coffee. George was often seen touring around Cooperstown in either his 1947 Packard Clipper or his 1966 Lincoln Convertible. He will be greatly missed by his family, many friends and his extended family at the funeral home.

He is survived by one sister and two brothes-in-law, Charlene and Thomas Callahan of Panama City, Fla., and Philip F. Chamberlain and his wife, Alberta of Friendsville, Pa.; two nieces; three nephews; one great-nephew; two great-nieces and one cousin, Miss Jean E. Connell of Forty Fort, Pa.

He was predeceased by one sister, Carolyn Chamberlain.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15, 1998 at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown with the Rev. John Weyand, pastor of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Greenfield Center and St. Paul's Catholic Church in Rock City Falls, officiating. The funeral home's 1961 Buick Flxible Flxette Hearse will bear George to the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery for burial following the service.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, Aug. 14, 1998 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. when George's family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to the Lions Club of Cooperstown, P.O. Box 2, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Raymond Link Fiorina
FORT PIERCE, Fla. — Raymond Link Fiorina, 76, of Fort Pierce, Fla., and formerly of Unadilla, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998, at the Longwood Medical Center, Fort Pierce, Fla., following a short illness.

He was born, May 2, 1922, in Bainbridge, the son of Link and Mary (Brungard) Fiorina.

He was first married to Marjorie Wilbur, who predeceased him in 1975, and on July 17, 1987, he was married to Irene Bristol.

Raymond was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army, a longtime resident of Unadilla, a devoted husband and father, and a retired employee of the Amphenol Corp. in Sidney with over 25 years of service.

He loved many sports, but in particular baseball and bowling. He played town team baseball for the Sidney and Unadilla teams and umpired for many years afterward. He was also an avid bowler and was inducted into the tri-town bowling Hall of Fame in 1995.

Before he and Irene moved to their current residence in Florida in 1994, he was an active member of the Unadilla Rod and Gun Club, Sidney Elks Lodge No. 2175 and the Joyce-Bell Post No. 578 American Legion of Unadilla.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; a daughter and her husband, Marlene and Andy Witham of Greene, Maine; a son and his wife, Dean and Patricia Fiorina of Unadilla; a stepdaughter and her husband, Eugenia and James Faughnan of Unadilla; a stepson, Daniel Bristol of Oneonta; four grandchildren, Kathryn Johnson, Christina, James and Bethany Faughnan; two brothers and their wives, Edward and Evelyn Fiorina of Elksgrove,  Calif., and James and Sherri Fiorina of Twinsburg, Ohio; a sister and her husband, Gloria and Howard Hall of Wells Bridge; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Paul Fiorina.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla with the Rev. Thomas Margrave, vicar of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Bainbridge officiating.

Friends may call at the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla, Friday, Aug. 21 from 7 to 9 p.m., when the family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Elks Lodge No. 2175 Scholarship Fund.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.

Eunice M. Macumber
TYRONE, Pa. — Eunice M. Macumber, 83, of Tyrone, Pa., and formerly of Gilbertsville, passed away Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, at the Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital in Altoona, Pa.

She was born July 28, 1915, to the late Elbert and Salina Loucks Crandall in Davenport.

Eunice married Clifford Macumber Nov. 4, 1973.

She was past owner and operator of Crandall's Home for the Aged, Gilbertsville.

Eunice was predeceased by her husband, Clifford, May 19, 1977, and son, Earl Hoosier, Oct. 13, 1997.

She is survived by a son, Edward Hoosier of Clifton Park; three daughters, Dorothy Eckert of Tyrone, Pa., Betty Cronk of Westerlo and Barbara Hotaling of Sloansville; a sister, Vivian Faragalli of Bellevue, N.J.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Aug. 14, 1998, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Donald P. Boardman of the First Presbyterian Church, Marion Street, Gilbertsville, officiating.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to the time of the service, Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be at a later time in Davenport Cemetery, Davenport.

Memorial contributions may be made to Roswell Park Alliance Foundation, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 631, Buffalo, N.Y. 14240-9856.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Funeral Directors, 21 Main St., Sidney.
