Dorothy R. Loft
SCHENEVUS — Dorothy R. Loft, 81, of Schenevus died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.

She was born Feb. 21, 1917, in Richmondville, the daughter of Andrew and Frances (Hayes) Sperbeck.

She married Dewey W. Loft.

Dorothy was a graduate of the Richmondville Central School and the Wilson Memorial School of Nursing in  Johnson City. She has lived in Schenevus for over 50 years.

For over 40 years Dorothy was a dedicated registered nurse employed at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, the Oneonta Nursing Home and was Director of Nursing at The Meadows in Cooperstown.

She enjoyed watching the happenings of nature from her front window, knitting and crocheting. She also had the ability to grown beautiful African Violets.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dewey W. Loft of Schenevus; three sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Nancy Loft of Worcester, George and Inge Loft of Schenevus, and David and Sylvia Loft of Worcester; daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Richard Skinner of Horseheads; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold `Jack' and Margaret Sperbeck and Clifford `Kip' and Marjorie Sperbeck all of Richmondville; two sisters, Ulah Hamm of Worcester and Edna Sperbeck of Richmondville and many nieces, nephews, cous"ins and aunts.

She was predeceased by her parents and two brothers, Archie and David Sperbeck.

As Dorothy requested, she will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus, with the Rev. Bonnie McGraw pastor of the Schenevus United Methodist Church officiating.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, from 7 p.m. to service time at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Lung Association of Mid-New York, 311 Turner St., Suite 415, Utica, N.Y. 13501 or the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 272, Schenevus, N.Y. 12155.

Funeral arrangements are by Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus.

Kieth L. Mosier Sr.
SIDNEY CENTER — Kieth L. Mosier Sr., 74, of Sidney Center passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at the New York State Veterans Home, Oxford.

He was born Nov. 14, 1923, to the late Clarence and Eulah Pierson Mosier in Robinson, Kan.

Kieth graduated from Robinson High School in 1940, and joined the United States Navy, he served upon U.S.S. Hobby, Hobson, and the Inch during World War II as Chief Radio Operator. Kieth returned to the States and married Lillian Messerschmitt in 1945.

He worked as a carpenter until 1964, Kieth then joined Dime Savings Bank as chief building inspector and then retired in 1983.

He has been a resident of Sidney Center for seven years. Kieth was a member of the V.F.W. Kings Point.

He was also a licensed ham-radio operator.

Kieth is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws, Dusty and Mary Mosier of Slate Hill and Keith L. Mosier Jr. and Bitzey Mosier of Sidney Center; one daughter and son-in-law, Merry Lou and Marvin Crist of Hopkinsville, Ky.; two brothers and sister-in-laws, Buss and Anne Mosier of Hatboro, Pa. and Mick and Erna Mosier of San Jose,  Calif.; two sisters and brother-in-laws, Marge and Tony Fridrich of Lincoln, Neb., and Nean and Earl Buss of Lincoln, Neb.; one niece, Marie Sandell of Lincoln, Neb.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Kieth was predeceased by brother, Wallis Mosier and sister, Betty Braasch and his wife, Lillian.

Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Donna Joy Schmid of the United Methodist Church, Sidney Center officiating.

The family would like to sincerely thank the New York State Veterans Home for making their father's last months very comfortable.

Memorial contributions may be made to the New York State Veterans Home, 4211 State Highway 220, Oxford.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., 21 Main St., Sidney.

Ronald E. Lints Sr.
CENTRAL BRIDGE — Ronald E. Lints Sr., 74, of Central Bridge and formerly of West Oneonta died Aug. 23, 1998, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 15, 1924, in Frankfort, the son of Andrew and Helen (DeForest) Lints.

He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II. Ron was a Staff Sgt. in the 95th Bombardment Squadron (European Theater), having flown 62 missions. He was awarded several Bronze Battle Stars, the Medal of Honor, Silver Star, Purple Heart, the Croix de Guerre award from the French government, as well as others.

Ron was employed by Bendix/Allied Amphenol Corporation for 36 years, retiring in 1987.

He married Debra Richards on Oct. 23, 1982, in Cooperstown.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Blue of Florida and Doris of Georgia; one son, Jesse and his fiancee, Jackie of Portlandville; two sisters, Sherry Hecox of Oneonta and Julie Blackwell of California; one sister-in-law, Betty Lints of Greene as well as several granchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

In honor of his wishes, he will be cremated at the Hillington Crematory, Morris.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Scott Thompson of the Cobleskill Wesleyan Church officiating.

Burial will follow at the Cook Cemetery in West Oneonta.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Ida Mary Dunham
NEW BERLIN — Ida Mary Dunham, 80, of New Berlin died Aug. 23, 1998, in Norwich.

She was born on Feb. 24, 1918, in Clayville, the daughter of William and Anna May (Matteson) Royce.

She married Owen Charles Dunham on March 30, 1940. He died June 8, 1970.

She spent her childhood in the town of Pittsfield.

She graduated from New Berlin Central High School.

She is survived by her children, William Royce of Morris, Mrs. John (Virginia) Scott of Brandenburg, Ky., R. Gene Dunham of South New Berlin, Mrs. Yogi (Linda) Brazee of West Burlington, Barry Dunham of Pittsfield and Ardeth Dunham of West Burlington; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her brother, Frank Royce of Pittsburg, Pa.; and sister, Mrs. Louis (Dorothy) Hill of New Berlin.

She worked for Kraft Foods and after her retirement she was a home-care provider.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at 8 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with the Rev. Jay Henderson of the Burlington Flats Baptist Church, Burlington Flats, officiating.

Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.

Calling hours are on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 1998, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Memorial donations may be made to the New Berlin Emergency Squad, New Berlin.

Ward D. Kirkland
BAINBRIDGE — Ward D. Kirkland, 90, of Bainbridge passed away Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

Ward was born June 24, 1908, to the late Lewis and Linna Riley Kirkland in Oxford.

He served in the United States Army from 1942-1945.

Ward married Vera Margaret Clark on Sept. 1, 1945, in Winchester, England.

He was a member of Lodge of the Elks No. 2175, Sidney, V.F.W. No. 3529 of Afton, past owner of the Garden Food Store, Bainbridge.

Ward is survived by beloved wife, Peg Kirkland of Bainbridge; sister, Irene Goodfellow of Yellow Springs, Ohio; niece, Dr. Robin Goodfellow of Albion, Mich.; two nephews, Dr. James Goodfellow of Enon, Ohio and Dr. Donald Goodfellow of Lyndhurst, Ohio and three grandnephews and five grandnieces.

He is predeceased by brothers, Carlton and Fred Kirkland.

Funeral services were private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bainbridge Emergency Squad or the American Cancer Society, 57 Front St., Binghamton, N.Y.

Marjorie MacDonald
BRADENTON, Fla. — Marjorie C. MacDonald, 67, of Bradenton, Fla. and formerly of Hobart passed away Aug. 20, 1998, in Bradenton.

She was born April 5, 1931, in Hobart the daughter of James S. and Mary Wissinger Cowan.

She was the wife of Robert B. MacDonald.

She is survived by her husband, Robert, in Bradenton, Fla.; two sons, Robert J. MacDonald of Bradenton, Fla., and Todd C. MacDonald of Palmetto, Fla.; a sister, Eleanor Todd of Bradenton, Fla.; a brother, James Henry Cowan of Oneonta and nine grandchildren.

Graveside services will take place at Locust Hill Cemetery in Hobart, on Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Bert More officiating.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the First Baptist Church Hymnal Fund, 1306 Manatee Ave., W., Bradenton, Fla., 34205-7594.

Local arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Orlo R. Thayer
OTEGO — Mr. Orlo R. Thayer, 80, of Otego died Tuesday evening, Aug. 25, 1998, at The Meadows, Cooperstown.

He was born May 29, 1918, in Oneonta, the son of Robert and Mabel (Van Woert) Thayer.

Orlo was twice married. His first wife, the former Harriet Knapp, was married Oct. 4, 1941, in North Franklin. She died June 29, 1984. His second marriage was to the former Clara Woodruff of Bainbridge, whom he was married to for four years until her death in 1996.

He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II.

Orlo was a shipping clerk for Bendix Corp. in Sidney for 32 years prior to his retirement, as well as having operated his own dairy farm at the same time.

He was a graduate of the Milford High School, Milford. He was a lifelong area resident, having moved to Otego with his family in 1955 from Mount Upton. A very community-minded person, Orlo was a member of the Otego United Methodist Church, Otego, where he served as a member of the church Administrative Council for a number of years as well as having been involved as a member of the Seniors Group at Otego, the Otego Old Boys Club. He was a member of American Legion Post 259 of Oneonta and a former volunteer fireman for the Otego Fire Department.

Following his retirement from Bendix and the Farm, Orlo was well-known throughout the area for a Rototilling Business that he founded. He had several customers that depended on him every year to come rototill their gardens so they could do their spring planting. He also was one of Santa's helpers at Bresee's Oneonta Department Store and the Southside Mall during the Christmas season, where he recalled many times, many cherished memories and stories.

His dog, Lady, and his cat, Rascal, were loved deeply by him.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry R. and Ruth Thayer of New Lisbon and Harry O. Thayer of Otego; two daughters and a son-in-law, Priscilla Thayer of Sidney and Susan and Stanley Zoltanski of Jacobstown, N.J.; one sister, Marjorie Crandall of Oneonta; one brother, Frank Thayer of Horseheads; also survived by 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta with the Rev. Fred Albrecht, pastor of the Otego United Methodist Church, Otego, officiating.

Burial will be in the Otego Evergreen Cemetery, Otego.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta on Thursday evening, Aug. 27, 1998, from 7 to 9 p.m. when the family will be present at the funeral home.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to either the Otego Emergency Squad, River Street, Otego, N.Y. 13825 or to the Otego United Methodist Church, Otego, N.Y. 13825 in memory of Orlo R. Thayer.

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Paul E. Koerner Sr.
GILBOA — Paul E. Koerner Sr., 71, of Wyckoff Road, Gilboa, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 1998, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 15, 1926, in the Bronx, the son of Paul W. and Sarah (O'Connor) Koerner.

Paul was married to Marilyn Everett on Sept. 14, 1946, in the Bronx.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II serving with the Seebees.

Paul had been a resident of Gilboa for the past 51 years and was employed for 18 years for the New York State Power Authority at the Gilboa-Blenheim Power Project.

He was a member of the St. Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church in Grand Gorge, The Susquehanna Post American Legion at Conesville, The Lt. Harry Pruden Jr. V.F.W. Post, Stamford, and the Manorkill Rural Cemetery Board of Trustees. Paul was also a former town of Conesville fire commissioner and a former member and past president of the Gilboa-Conesville Central School Board of Education.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Koerner of Gilboa; daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Thomas Mulle of Gilboa, Donna and Leonard Castle of Schoharie; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Melinda Koerner of Grand Gorge, and Paul E. and Karen Koerner Jr. of Stamford; grandchildren, Michelle, Christi, Wayne, Tommy, Ashley, Kelly, Paul III, Sarah, Heather, Jason, Malinda, Erin, Elizabeth, Nancy, Gary Jr., Julie, and Brooke; great-grandchildren, Devon, Maeze, Liam, Connor, Alyssa, Nathan and Caitlin; and a sister, Peggy Usher of East Freetown.

Paul was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Eileen in 1977.

A funeral Mass will be offered 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 1998, at St. Philip Neri Church, Grand Gorge with the Rev. Joseph Cebula, pastor, presiding.

The burial will be in the Manorkill Rural Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford at their convenience on Thursday afternoon and evening. The family will be in attendance between 2 and 4 p.m. and 7 and 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Paul's memory to the Gilboa-Conesville Central School Scholarship Fund, Wyckoff Road, Gilboa, N.Y. 12076 in memory of his daughter, Mary Eileen.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.
