Florence M. Bouford
WORCESTER — Florence M. Bouford, 84, of Worcester died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born Jan. 24, 1914, in Rutland, Vt., the daughter of George and Florence Mary (Renene) Place.

She married William Bouford on Feb. 21, 1973, in Pine Bush. He predeceased her on July 10, 1997.

Mrs. Bouford has resided in Worcester for the past 10 years. Previously she lived in Pine Bush for 15 years.

She was employed with New York Telephone in Saratoga Springs for 40 years as a telephone operator.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Francis Blanchard of Worcester; one sister, Dorothy Blatnick of Fort Meyers, Fla.; two brothers, Kenneth Place of Cape Coral, Fla., and George Place and his wife, Beth, of Tulsa, Okla.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother Charles Place in 1995.

Mrs. Bouford was cremated and a memorial service will take place at a later date.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in memory of Mrs. Bouford to the Worcester Fire Department, c/o Roy Althiser, 26 Brookside Ave., Worcester, N.Y. 12197.

Arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

Robert Burdick Jr.
BINGHAMTON — Robert W. Burdick Jr., 52, of Isbell Street, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at General Hospital.

He was a member of The Landmark Church.

He is survived by his wife, Helen (Dollinger) Burdick of Binghamton; one son, Robert W. Burdick III of Binghamton; one daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Melvin Allen of Tennessee; two grandchildren, Bethany Allen of Tennessee and Kayla Burdick of Binghamton; a stepdaugher, Wynafer Steward of Tennessee; his mother, Ida Burdick of Sidney; one brother and sister-in-law, William and Rita Burdick Sr. of Kenoza Lake; one sister, Marlene Cordner of Sidney; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins; also many dear friends.

He was predeceased by his father, Robert W. Burdick Sr.

Funeral and committal services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson, with the Rev. Dan Little, pastor of The Landmark Church, officiating.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family at the Spring Forest Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Binghamton General Hospital Foundation, Mitchell Avenue, Binghamton, N.Y. 13903.

Vickie A. (Alger) Althiser
DENVER, N.C. — Vickie A. (Alger) Althiser, 42, most recently of Denver, N.C. and formerly of Oneonta died unexpectedly on Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, at the Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C.

She was born Jan. 7, 1956, in Oneonta, the daughter of Clifton and Elizabeth (Livingston) Van Dyke.

Vickie was a graduate of Franklin Central School and the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital School of Practical Nursing.

A resident of North Carolina for the past six months, she was employed as a practical nurse at the Catawba Memorial Hospital in Hickory, N.C. at the time of her death. For a period of 17 years, Vickie was associated with the office of Dr. William Hopper in Oneonta, and prior to moving to North Carolina she worked at M.I. Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

While living in Oneonta, Vickie was an active parishioner of St. James Episcopal Church, along with being a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

She is survived by a son, Brad Alger of Oneonta; her brother and his wife, Jeff and Lori Van Dyke of New Berlin; and two nephews, Jeffrey and Cody Van Dyke of New Berlin. Also surviving are her many friends, especially Nancy Brandt of Denver, N.C.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at St. James Episcopal Church with the Rev. Canon Mark R. Cole, rector, officiating. Burial will follow in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

Friends are invited to call at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, corner of Grand and Division Streets, Oneonta on Tuesday, Sept. 29, after 3 p.m. The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the East Lincoln Emergency Squad, Highway 16, Denver, N.C. 28037.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Paul Boggs
WARNERVILLE — Mr. Paul Boggs, 96, formerly of the Warnerville Trailer Park, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at the Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown after a long illness.

Mr. Boggs was born March 28, 1902, in South Kortright, the son of Hilliard and Nettie ( White) Boggs.

He was educated in Delaware County, where he had resided for many years, some of them in Franklin. He lived in the Howes Cave area for many years before moving to the Warnerville Trailer Park in 1969. He entered the Delaware County Infirmary in December 1991.

Mr. Boggs was a mason's tender for Olin Fuller, a mason from the Howes Cave and Central Bridge areas. He had also done dairy farming in the Schoharie County area many years ago.

Mr. Boggs was married to Esther (Potts) Boggs for many years until her death in 1974.

Survivors include: one son, Warren G. Boggs of Cobleskill; one sister, Mrs. Evelyn Dickson of Delhi; two half-brothers, Wendell Boggs of Oneonta and Renwick Boggs of Oneonta; two half-sisters, Mrs. Margaret Craig of Oneonta and Mrs. Nettie Moore of the state of Florida; two grandchildren, Sheri Sellick of Phelps and Stephen Boggs of Schoharie; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren also survive.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at the Langan Funeral Home, 21 North Main St., Central Bridge. Burial will follow in the Bramanville Prospect Cemetery, Bramanville.

The Rev. Alan Griffith, pastor of the Mineral Springs United Methodist Church, will officiate.

As per the family's request, no calling hours will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to: The Mineral Springs United Methodist Church care of Mrs. Mary J. Myers, Treasurer, P.O. Box 335, Cobleskill, N.Y. 12043.

Alice I. Keith
CICERO — Alice I. Keith, 97, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Syracuse.

She was born July 26, 1901, in Pittsfield, the daughter of Warren P. and Mary Jane (Ellis) Calder.

She was married to Lloyd Keith; he predeceased her in 1956.

Alice was a charter member of the Wharton Valley American Legion, and had been an employee at the Silk Mill in New Berlin.

She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Mary Jane and John Henderson of Cicero, and Catherine Herrschaft of Winter Haven, Fla.; her granchild and spouse, Lynne and Gerald Cushman; two great-grandchildren, Brian J. Butler and Michael Cudahy.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at 10 a.m. at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston with the Rev. John Buskey officiating. Interment will follow at the Unadilla Forks Cemetery.

Calling hours are Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, from 5 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alice's memory to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

William Richard (Knick) Knicklebine
GILBERTSVILLE — William Richard (Knick) Knicklebine, 64, of Gilbertsville died Friday, Sept. 25, 1998, at The Hospital, Sidney.

He was born in Rochester, Ind., on June 22, 1934, the son of Chester and Viola (Drudge) Knicklebine.

He was married to Mary Faber on Sept. 7, 1959, at her family's home at 4 Maple St. in Gilbertsville.

He retired from the United States Navy after 22 years of service to his country. He retired as a chief radio operator and had served in Vietnam and The Bay of Pigs invasion.

"Knick" was a member of the American Legion Post No. 1339 of Gilbertsville and the V.F.W. Post of Sidney. He was also a member of the Gilbertsville Rod & Gun Club and was well-known for his love of the game of golf.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Gilbertsville; two daughters, Becky Edgett and her husband, Mitch of Mount Upton and Marna Dunham and her husband, Jeff of Gilbertsville; a son, William Knicklebine II and his wife, Caren of Manhattan, Kan.; grandchildren include Chad and Cory Edgett, Brandon Knicklebine, Cody and Nathan Edgett, Phylicia and Carolee Dunham, he is also survived by one brother, Larry Joe Knicklebine and his wife, Judy; and three sisters, Annie Edgil and her husband, Charlie, Aleta Bush and Marla Sue Dill and her companion, John, all of South Bend, Ind.; also surviving are several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at 2 p.m. in the Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville with Dr. Donald Boardman officiating. Interment and committal services will follow in the Brookside Cemetery with full military honors.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to the American Cancer Society or the Gilbertsville Emergency Squad in his memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home, Morris.

Robert E. Lyons
STAMFORD — Robert E. Lyons, 72, of 11 W. End Ave., Stamford died Sunday, Sept. 27, 1998, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

Bob was born Dec. 31, 1925, in Oswego, the son of Herbert R. and Eula (Dillingham) Lyons.

He was married to Mary Root on Aug. 10, 1948. Mary died Jan. 7, 1971. On Feb. 3, 1973, he married Ruth (Beers) Clark.

Bob graduated from Oswego High School and the State University College at Oswego, where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees in industrial arts.
He was a United States naval veteran during World War II and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Mission Bay in the European Theater.

Bob taught industrial arts in Rotterdam,  Jefferson and for 25 years taught at the Stamford Central School prior to his retirement in 1980. He was also driver training instructor for several years and at one time coached junior varsity boys basketball.

He was a resident of Stamford most of his life and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Lyons of Stamford; a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Joseph Matrone of Farmington; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert R. and Ellen Lyons of Evergreen,  Colo.; grandchildren, Katie, A.J. and Todd; two sisters and brother-in-law, Marjorie and William Thayer of Ithaca, Nancy Lyons of Concord, Mass.; a brother and sister-in-law, David and Marilyn Lyons of Marblehead, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford with the Rev. Stephan Herring, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Stamford, officiating. The burial will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery at Prattsville.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday afternoon and evening. The family will be in attendance at the funeral home Tuesday between 7 and 9 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Bob's memory to either The Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 or the R.A. Robinson Emergency Squad, Main Street, Stamford, N.Y. 12167.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Joseph A. Martz
NEW LISBON — Joseph A. Martz, 91, of New Lisbon died at home on Saturday, Sept. 26, 1998.

He was born March 20, 1907, in Manhattan, the son of Maurice and Florence (Belinge) Martz.

He married Lillian "his beloved Lill" on June 16, 1929, at the Christ Episcopal Church in Staten Island. She predeceased him on April 17, 1993.

He is survived by his daughter, Joan Carman of New Lisbon; his grandchildren, Wesley C. Carman III, Douglas J. Carman, and Scott P. Carman; his great-grandchildren, Adam, Victoria, Jennifer and Douglas Carman, and Noelle and Amanda Pink.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston with Pastor Mitchell Spring officiating. Interment will follow at the Butternut Valley Brick School House Cemetery in Garrattsville.

Calling hours are Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Mary Frances Wichowsky
COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Mary Frances Wichowsky, 89, of Delaware Street in Cooperstown died Saturday evening, Sept. 26, 1998, at The Meadows.

She was born on Nov. 10, 1908, in the town of Warren, a daughter of Frank and Julia (Meyer) Peplinski.

She was first married to Max Gorney on Nov. 15, 1925, at St. Joseph's Church in Richfield Springs. Mr. Gorney died on April 14, 1954. She then married Vito Wichowsky on Aug. 6, 1955, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cooperstown. Mr. Wichowsky died on Sept. 7, 1965.

Mary received her education in district schools in the town of Richfield. For most of her life she enjoyed working with her first husband, Max, on his dairy farm in Middlefield Center and with her second husband, Vito, on his dairy farm in the town of Richfield. In 1966, Mary moved to Cooperstown where she was employed as a cook at the former Doubleday Restaurant and the Otesaga Hotel until her retirement in 1983.

She was a member of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown and enjoyed working outdoors, especially with flowers.

She is survived by four daughters and one son-in-law, Betty and Ed W. Koshar and Helen Cankar all of Fly Creek, Josie Bliss of Cooperstown and Dorothy Ricco of Mission Viejo,  Calif.; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl Peplinski of DeBary, Fla.; one sister, Clara Rauscher of Richfield Springs; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph F. Peplinski and Harry Peplinski Sr.; two sons-in-law, Anton Cankar and Clyde Bliss; and one grandson, Tony Cankar.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown with the Rev. John R. Roos, pastor of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Index.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9 a.m. until service time when Mary's family will be in attendance.

Mary's family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff of The Meadows for all of the kindness and support given to them and the care given to Mary during her time on A Wing.

Expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to the Activities Fund care of The Meadows, Box 140, County Route 33W, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
