William Stohlman
BURLINGTON FLATS — A memorial service for Dr. J. William "Bill" Stohlman, of Burlington Flats and Rockville, Md., will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at 2 p.m., at the Morgan- Jackson All Faiths Chapel, Pathfinder Village, Edmeston, with the Rev. Paul Towers, Father Francis Case, the Rev. William Highfield, and the Rev. Jay Henderson, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to the Martha K. Stohlman Scholarship Fund care of Pathfinder Village, Edmeston.

Francis A. Hawver
UNADILLA — A graveside service for Francis A. Hawver of Unadilla, who died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at the Schenevus Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Thompson, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Schenevus, officiating.

A reception for family and friends will be held at the V.F.W. in Schenevus, following the service.

Dr. Neil Rothman
SIDNEY — Dr. Neil Rothman, 56, of Valley View Apartments, Sidney, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1998, at the home of his sister.

He was born May 21, 1942, in Oneonta. He was the son of Fred and Beatrice Rothman. Neil was married to Arlene Feldman.

Dr. Rothman was a graduate of the Sidney Central Schools. He completed his education at New York University Dental School.

From 1966, until his retirement in 1994, due to his health, Neil was a dentist with Rothman Dental Associates, Sidney.

Neil was a member of the New York State Dental Society, the Sidney Chamber of Commerce and the Delaware County Republican Party. At the present time, he was vice president and presently was chairman for his party. Dr. Rothman was a member of the Southern Tier Advisory Board NBT Bank, Norwich. He was a past member and past president of the Sidney Central School Board of Education and the Sidney Rotary Club. He had served on numerous other boards and organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Arlene Rothman; daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Daniel Fitzpatrick; son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Sarah Rothman; grandson, Quintin Rothman; parents, Beatrice and Fred Rothman; sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Lee Friedman; brother and sister-in-law, Dr. David and Christine Rothman; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 2, 1998, from the Boulevard-Riverside Chapel, 1450 Broadway, Hewlett, with Rabbi Sholom Stern. Burial will follow in New Montefiore Cemetery, Pinelawn.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Sidney Emergency Squad, River Street, Sidney.

Local memorial services will be announced by the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Bruce Knapp
KNOX — Mr. Bruce Knapp of Knox passed away Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.

Bruce was born in Oneonta on Jan. 12, 1945, a son of Franklin and Florence (Faulkner) Knapp.

Bruce operated his own construction business for many years.

He married Karen Volk in Cooperstown on Dec. 21, 1968. Bruce and Karen had resided in Cooperstown, Delhi, Harpursville, Victor and Shortsville over the years.

Bruce was an avid golfer who enjoyed classic cars as well as hunting, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, of Knox; a daughter, Julie, of Knox; three sisters, Sandra Stone of Davenport, Iowa, Katherine Banta of Latham, and Nancy McAdams of Cortland; a brother, Richard, of Davenport, Iowa; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, William and Robert Knapp.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown with Pastor Green of the Faith Alliance Church in Attleboro, Mass.

Calling hours will be on Sunday evening, Oct. 4, 1998, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown when the family will be in attendance. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Index.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions in Bruce's name to the Plank Roaders (a local known charity) in care of Edward Rivenburgh, 1262 Knox Cave Rd., Delanson, N.Y. 12053.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Andrew Wingate
JEFFERSON — Andrew Wingate, 84, of  Jefferson, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, from injuries received in an automobile accident that day.

Andrew had lived for many years in  Jefferson with his friend of 55 years, Ray Becker.

Andrew served in World War II, had been a desinger and decorator in New York City, and he and Ray had managed inns throughout New England and the  Jefferson area. He worked for the Schoharie County Mental Health Department for several years.

Andrew loved to cook and found great pleasure in his garden.

Andrew leaves seven nieces and nephews, who will greatly miss his wit and his ability to keep them in touch with their roots.

A remembrance of Andrew will be held at the  Jefferson United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998, at 10 a.m. His family would be pleased to meet people who knew Andrew.

Donations in his memory may be made to the  Jefferson Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 10,  Jefferson, N.Y. 12093.

Margaret C. Newhall
OTEGO — Mrs. Margaret C. Newhall, 71, of Otego, died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at A.O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born March 29, 1927, in Philadelphia, Pa.

Margaret had been a homemaker in her own home and had lived in Otego for several years.

She is survived by a niece, Debbie Thomas of Farmingdale, Long Island.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 30 River St., Otego, with the Rev. Alan C. Hatch, pastor of the Otego Baptist Church, Otego, officiating.

Margaret will be cremated following the funeral service at Hillington Crematory, Morris.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Otego, on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, after 9 a.m. and until service time on Tuesday.

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Mildred M. Anderson
EAST BRANCH — Mrs. Mildred M. Anderson, 92, of East Branch, formerly of Oneonta, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at the Countryside Care Center, Delhi.
She was born Aug. 10, 1906, in Harpersfield, the daughter of James and Maude (Walker) Bullis.

Mildred married Paul G. Anderson on Jan. 28, 1928, at the First Baptist Church, Oneonta. He died Aug. 14, 1984.

Mildren had been a homemaker in her own home at East Branch until moving to the Countryside Care Center in 1995. She formerly was a resident of Watkins Avenue and Dietz Street, Oneonta, prior to moving to East Branch in October 1989.

Mildred was a very active church member and during her time in Oneonta was a member of Main Street Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Sunshine Class and past president for 10 years, as well as having been a deaconess at Main Street Baptist Church. While living in East Branch she attended the East Branch Community Church.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Nancy Anderson of Oneonta; one daughter, Mrs. Helen Schmitt of East Branch; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Wardwell and Mrs. Estana Palmieri, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; also survived by six grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Donald, Bernard, Lynn and Clayton Bullis and two sisters, Margaret Utter and Izma Dimmick.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta with the Rev. Earl Pomeroy, pastor of the East Branch Community Church, officiating.

Burial will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998. The family will be present at the funeral home from noon to service time on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998.

Those that wish may offer expressions of sympathy to either the Main Street Baptist Church, Main Street, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 or to the East Branch Community Church, East Branch, N.Y. 13756 in memory of Mildred M. Anderson.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Mildred M. Anderson
EAST BRANCH — Mrs. Mildred M. Anderson, 92, of East Branch and formerly of Oneonta, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998.

Inadvertently omitted from Mrs. Mildred Anderson's obituary was that she was predeceased by her son, Richard P. Anderson, who was killed in the Korean War on June 5, 1953.

Deborah A. Stocking
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Deborah A. Stocking, 42, of 4 Center St., died on Saturday morning, Oct. 3, 1998, in her home with her loving family at her side.

She was born on Jan. 27, 1956, in Oneonta, the daughter of the late Richard B. and Luva Washburn Bunn.

A lifelong area resident, she was a graduate of Edmeston High School.

On Oct. 25, 1975, she married David A. Stocking in the Burlington Flats United Methodist Church.

For the past eight years she worked as a clerk for the New York Central Insurance Company in Edmeston.

Her recreation time was spent bowling on the Early Bird Bowling League in Richfield Springs.

Surviving besides her devoted husband of 22 years, David, are three daughters, Sonya and her husband, Sean Buck of Clovis, N.M., Heather and Jolene Stocking, both of Richfield Springs; one brother, Wayne Bunn of Leonardsville; a grandson, David Buck of Clovis, N.M.; aunts and uncles, Vernon and his wife, Barbara Bunn, Francis and his wife, Holly Bunn and Shirley Bunn; her mother and father-in-law, Virginia and David Stocking; several nieces and nephews and her special friend, Nick Thomas.

She was preceded in death by a son, David Stocking in 1976.

Funeral service will be on Monday evening at 7 p.m., in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 5 W. James St., Richfield Springs, with the Elder Phillip Paddock officiating.

Calling hours are Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, from 2-4 p.m. and following the funeral service from 7:30-9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Lewis Hagger Bush Cancer Center in care of Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Emmett D. Maine
GILBERTSVILLE — Emmett D. Maine, 60, of Gilbertsville, went to be with our Lord. He died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 21, 1937, in Oneonta, the son of George C. and Alice J. (Cope) Maine Sr.

He never married. He was in the United States Army, having served time in Tulee, Greenland.

Emmett worked for Rochester Telephone as a journeyman. He also worked on the Marcy South Line.

He was a member of the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union. He was also a member of the American Legion in Oneonta and Gilbertsville.

He is survived by his mother, Alice J. Maine of Gilbertsville; his five sisters and brothers-in-law, Ida Maine of Tucson, Ariz., Mrs. Ray L. (Ruth) Wilson of Gilbertsville, Mrs. Don (Eleanor) Harbaugh of Pensacola, Fla., Linda Kent of Afton, and Mrs. Kent (Anna) Kinsey of Gilbertsville; eight brothers and sisters-in-law, George C. Jr. and Arthur R. Maine of Statesville, N.C., Frederick A. and Beth Maine of Statesville, N.C., Paul K. Maine of Las Vegas, Nev., John C. Maine of Oneonta, Bill R. and Janet Maine of Oneonta, David D. and Theresa Maine of Albuquerque, N.M., and Duane A. and Louise Maine of Cicero; and 34 nieces and nephews.

Emmett was predeceased by his father, George C. "Herky" Maine Sr.

A service to celebrate the life of Emmett D. Maine will be held on Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at 1 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta with the Rev. Randolph Palada, pastor of the Gilbertsville Baptist Church, officiating.

Emmett was cremated at the Hillington Crematory and his ashes will be interred in the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

There will be no calling hours.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to either the Gilbertsville Emergency Squad, Gilbertsville, N.Y. 13776 or the Gilbertsville Baptist Church, Gilbertsville, N.Y. 13776 in loving memory of Emmett D. Maine.

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Henry L. Gaul Jr.
BINGHAMTON — Henry L. Gaul Jr., 77, passed away Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. After World War II, he finished his college education, graduating from Hartwick College in Oneonta.

He then worked as a claims adjustor for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company until, along with his partners, he started Malik, Gaul, Benedick, Inc. Insurance Agency in 1961. He worked in his agency until his retirement in 1986.

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved being at his special place "The Farm" in Delaware County. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church.

He was predeceased by his mother and father, Henry L. Sr. and Grace (Sands) Gaul; his brother, Robert Gaul; and special brother-in-law, Earl Rogers.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Delina (Madormo) Gaul of Binghamton; his children, Rosemarie Yezzi of Binghanmton, Michael and Jean Gaul of Binghamton; two grandsons, Jonah and Alex Yezzi of Binghamton; a loving sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Fred Schroder of Franklin; one aunt, Alice Knox of Melrose, Mass.; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Rogers of Binghamton, Dominic and Marie Madormo of Binghamton; also many nieces and nephews, and special friend, William (Enzo) Farneti of Hillcrest.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 8:30 a.m. at the James V. DeMarco & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson and at 9 a.m. in St. Paul's Church, due to the renovation of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Ouleout Valley Cemetery in Franklin at a later date.

Friends are invited to call at the funeral home Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations in his name can be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Church Refurbishing Fund, 37 Fayette St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13901.
