Ralph C. Mason
SIDNEY — Ralph C. Mason, 85, of 11 Ritton St., Sidney, passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 7, 1998, at the Countryside Care Center, Delhi.

He was born Feb. 2, 1913, in Middletown. Mr. Mason was the son of the late George and Eunice Shaver Mason.

On Dec. 25, 1932, he married Victoria Walker in Sidney.

Ralph was a retired toolmaker with E.C.D. of Bendix, Sidney.

He was a charter member of the Sidney Lodge No. 2175 B.P.O.E. He was a former member of the Unadilla Rod and Gun Club. Ralph was an honorary member of the Sidney Fire Department and Phelps Hose Company No. 1.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mrs. Victoria Mason of Sidney; two daughters and son-in-law, Mrs. Sharon Iadonisi of New Hampton, N.H., and Mrs. Kathy and Carlton Crandall of Sidney; six grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; one nephew; and one niece.

He was predeceased by his brother, Harold Mason.

At the request of Mr. Mason, private services will be held at the convenience of his family.

Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in his name may be directed to the Sidney Emergency Squad or Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are under the direction of the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

James L. Knak
EAST MEREDITH — James L. Knak, 64, of Somers, Conn., co-founder of K&M Electronics in West Springfield, Mass., died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Mr. Knak was born in Toledo, Ohio, and was raised on a farm in East Meredith.

He graduated from Charlotte Valley Central School, Davenport, in 1952, and the University of Cincinnati in 1958, with a degree in electronic engineering.

He worked for the Bendix Company for 17 years before founding K&M with his partner, Darell Mitchell. K&M is an international company and is a leader in the design and manufacture of miniature high-voltage power supplies for military and commercial applications.

Mr. Knak leaves his wife, Gloria Janssen Knak; two daughters, Lisa Toomey of Granby, Mass., and Geri Nelson of Feeding Hills, Mass; his mother, Wilma Ehlermann Knak of Ellenton, Fla.; a sister, Geraldine Stiefel of Sylvania, Ohio; and three grandchildren.

A private memorial service for the family was held on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998, in East Longmeadow, Mass.

Martha (Alger) Mae Trask
UNADILLA — Martha (Alger) Mae Trask, 57, our beloved mother of Unadilla, passed away Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.

Martha was born May 23, 1941 in Oneonta, the daughter of the late Clinton and Leta (Collier) Alger.

Martha's children and grandchildren were the light of her life and her love for them knew no bounds. Her zest for life and her goodness were the essence of her existence. She will be treasured and remembered in our heart always.

She was an avid cook and baker and will be greatly missed.

Martha graduated from Otego Central School in 1960. She worked in the Ames Store (formerly known as FBC and Neisener Bros.) for 25 years.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Paula Trask of Bainbridge and Timothy Trask and his fiancee Lisa Beers of King of Prussia, Pa.; one daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Arnold Cook of Unadilla; one sister and brother-in-law, Bernice and Joseph Manzer of Otego; an aunt, Gertrude De Shaw of Wells Bridge; five grandchildren, Autumn Trask of Bainbridge, Brandy Stevens of Sidney Center, Dakota Cook of Unadilla, Frances Cook of Unadilla and Jimmy Cook of Unadilla; her former husband, Joseph Trask of Sidney; and three uncles, two nephews and cousins survive as well as a special friend, Marilyn.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 30 River St., Otego, with the Rev. Alan C. Hatch, pastor of the Otego Baptist Church, Otego, officiating.

Martha will be buried in the Alger Plot at Otego Evergreen Cemetery, Otego.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 30 River St., Otego after noon today at their convenience. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 tonight when those who wish may call.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Dorothy Mae Choate Delameter
HAMDEN — Dorothy Mae Choate Delamter of Hamden passed away Sartuday, Oct. 10, 1998, at home following a long illness.

She was born in Dayton, Ohio on Jan. 11, 1930 to Dock and Ella (Hunt) Choate.

She married Chester M. Delameter Sr. on Oct. 24, 1948, in Hamden.

Dorothy graduated from Delaware Academy and Central School, Delhi in 1947. Then she attended the Alfred Beauty School in New York City, and gradauted in 1948.

She worked on the family farm until the winter of 1971, when the barn was destroyed by fire. Dorothy worked in the Hamden Post Office as a part-time clerk and at the Delaware County Infirmary as a nurse's aide. When John Scolfield retired, Dorothy was hired as the full-time rural mail carrier in the Hamden Post Office.

She retired in September 1996, after delivering the mail for 23 years, a job she truly enjoyed. Dorothy was on a team with five other postal workers who were instrumental in Subaru's decision to produce right-hand-drive vehicles for rural letter carriers. Dorothy appeared in Subaru's advertisements for the new cars for about two years, and she became known to many people as the "Subaru Lady."

She was a member of the Hamden Presbyterian Church for 54 years and a trustee of the church for six years. Dorothy was a member of the Hamden Craft Club, Chambers Hollow Craft Club, the National Rural Letter Carrier Association, and the secretary of the Delaware County Rural Letter Carriers for five years.

Surviving are her husband, Chester; two daughters, Mary Oliver and her fiancee, Richard Terry of Lawrenceville, Pa. and Sandi and her husband, Paul Mansker of Moncks Corner, S.C.; one son, Chet Jr. of Hamden; two grandsons, Shawn Liddle of North Vernon, Ind. and Jason Liddle, a college student in Buffalo; four granddaughters, Tricia and her husband, Scott Mason, Dana Delameter of North Vernon, Ind., Stacie Liddle and her fiance, Jeremy Waters of Moncks Corners, S.C. and Amanda Delameter of Hamden; one stepgrandson, Phil Mansker and one stepgranddaughter, Miranda Terry; two great-grandsons, Alan Delameter and Derek Mason, both of North Vernon, Ind.; one sister and brother-in-law, William and June Aitken of Gardiner, Maine; one brother and sister-in-law, Art and Arlene Choate of Hamden; and several nieces and nephews.

A granddaughter, Christa Mae Delameter, predeceased her in August 1982.

Calling hours with the family in attendance will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Moxley-McCall Funeral Home in Delhi. A service to celebrate the life of Dorothy Mae Delameter will be held at the Hamden Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 13, with the Rev. Leigh Holder Bobo officiating. Following the service, there will be a reception at the Delameter home on Hamden Hill.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hamden Presbyterian Church or Catskill Area Hospice in memory of Dorothy Delameter.

Thelma V. Grant
SLOANSVILLE — Thelma V. Grant, 89, of Sloansville died on Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at the Guilderland Center Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1909, in Dalton, Ga., the daughter of J. Samuel and Lula (Robinson) Ray.

Mrs. Grant was married to Clair F. Grant in Oneonta in 1928. Mr. Grant died in 1967.

She was a housewife and a member of the Mount Vision Baptist Church in Mount Vision.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Alta) Lister of Laurens and Linda Grant of Sloansville. She is also survived by several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Mrs. Grant was predeceased by one sister and five brothers.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Plains Cemetery, Oneonta. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Janet M. Knapp
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Janet M. Knapp, 53, of 442 state Route 167, Richfield Springs passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1998, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born Sept. 12, 1945 in Bainbridge, the daughter of Norris and Lena Darling Butts.

She was an inspector for Amphenol Corp. in Sidney.

Janet was an avid golfer.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dwain and Rochelle Knapp of Sidney Center and Michael and Amy Knapp of Mount Upton; her mother, Mrs. Lena Butts of Bainbridge; two sisters and brothers-in-laws, Betty and Chuck Bishop of Masonville and Louise and Don Eggleston of Bainbridge; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Graydon and June Butts of Masonville and David and Janette Butts of New Berlin; three granchildren, Heather, Brian and Zachary Knapp; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1998, at the Masonville Cemetery, Masonville, with the Rev. Thomas Flanders, pastor of the Circle Drive Alliance Church in Sidney, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Winfred Lehenbauer
NEW YORK CITY — Mr. Winfred Lehenbauer of Staten Island, 59, died Friday, Oct. 9, 1998, at the Peninsula Hospital in Brooklyn, after a lengthy illness.

He was born March 28, 1939, in Villa Crespo, Entre Rios, Argentina, the son of Alberto Ernesto Henry and Helena (Priebe) Lehenbauer.

Winfred's father was a Lutheran missionary to Brazil and Argentina from Missouri. Winfred was raised in Argentina until the age of 17 when, having dual citizenship, he came to the United States and enlisted in the United States Air Force. After four years of service as an aircraft electronics repairman, he was honorably discharged in March of 1961.

He was married to Winifred Ellen Messner on Oct. 21, 1962.

He worked for years as a technical representative for Xerox.

He enjoyed classical music, camping and the outdoors, and reading.

Winfred is survived by his ex-wife, Winifred of Worcester; two sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher Paul and Lori L. (Patton) Lehenbauer of Worcester, and Karl Phillip and Nancy Lynn (Atwell) Lehenbauer of Milford; one daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Anne and Chris Laird of Fort Polk, La.; seven granchildren, Scott Christopher, Timothy Paul, Sarah Marie, Liana Michelle, Brittany Nicole, Nathaniel Wesley and Damian Kristofer; two brothers, Ronald of Brazil and Ottomar of Utah; two sisters, Naomi L. Hohn and Flora Kroeger of Argentina; and many nieces, nephews and other family.

Winfred was predeceased by two brothers, Siegfried and Reginald and one sister, Monica.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, in New York City.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Heart Association, Hearts Gifts Processing Center, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, N.Y. 13220-3049 or to the American Lung Association of Mid New York, 311 Turner St., Suite 415, Utica, N.Y. 13501.

Arrangements have been made by the E.J. Skinner Co., Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester.

Peter F. Rosa
BOVINA CENTER — Peter F. Rosa, 57, of Bovina Center, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 7 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.

Peter was born on Jan. 13, 1941 in Kingston, the son of Victor and Della (Stair) Rosa.

He married Linda Ackerley on April 25, 1961 at St. Peter's Church in Delhi. Peter was a graduate of Delaware Academy in Delhi.

He was a tool and dye machinist at Audiosears in Stamford for more than 20 years. Mr. Rosa was a lifelong resident of Bovina, where he enjoyed the outdoors, gunsmithing, playing football, hunting, fishing, playing guitar and singing. Most of all he enjoyed being with his friends and family.

Peter is survived by his wife Linda of 37 years; three children, Douglas and wife Mary of Delhi, Kathy (Rosa) Keck and her husband Todd of Delhi and Jeffrey and his wife Lisa of Endicott; four grandchildren, Nicholas, Alyssa, Haley and Brandy Rosa; two brothers, Richard Rosa of Bainbridge and Stephen and Susan Rosa of Norwich; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were Sunday, Oct. 11 at the Moxley-McCall Funeral Home, 131 Main St., Delhi.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Peter's Church in Delhi with Fr. Joseph Manerowski officiating.

Graveside services and interment will follow at the Bovina Center Cemetery. The family requests that those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Bovina Emergency Squad.

Nellie Ward
SPRINGFIELD CENTER — Nellie Ward, 91, formerly of Route 80, died on Saturday morning, Oct. 10, 1998, at The Meadows, Cooperstown.

She was born on Dec. 10, 1906, in Newville, a daughter of the late Emmett and Mabel Oliver Smith.

A lifelong area resident, she was educated in Newville.

In September of 1931, she married Hiram Ward. They had a loving and devoted union of 36 years until his passing on May 19, 1968.

Surviving her are one son, Hiram Ward; a daughter, Ruth and her husband, William Schultz; one sister, Helen Smith, all of Springfield Center; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and her dear friend Hazel Austin.

She was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Shane Marmet in July 1997; a daughter, Roseann Marmet in March 1988, and a brother, Oliver Smith.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday at noon at J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 5 West James St., Richfield Springs, with the Rev. Ronald Fralick officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Plain Cemetery.

Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial donations to Springfield Center Fire Department Emergency Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
