Katherine Thomas
WORCESTER — Katherine Thomas, 73, of Worcester, died Monday, Oct. 12, 1998, at M.I. Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown after a short illness.

She was born May 10, 1925, in Hempstead, the daughter of Leo and Anna (Ziminski) Trymer.

She married Stuart W. Thomas on Oct. 19, 1946, in Roosevelt.

Katie first started coming to Worcester from Long Island in 1949, she and her husband became full-time residents in 1982.

She was employed with New York Telephone Co. for 25 years, and locally she worked at the Oneonta office from 1982 to 1990.

Katie was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Worcester and the Worcester American Legion Auxiliary. She was involved with the Girl Scout Community on Long Island for 15 years and served as a chairman. She was also a trustee for the Worcester Library.

She enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting and gardening. She was an excellent cook and loved to travel. Those that knew her remember her for her wit.

She is survived by her husband, Stuart W. Thomas Sr., of Worcester; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Stuart W. Jr. and Lisa Thomas, of Lakeland, Fla., and Stephen M. Thomas, of Worcester; daughter, Patricia A. Thomas, of Schenectady; five grandchildren, Brandon, David, Kerrie, Sandy and Jeffrey; sister, Evelyn Kingston of Connecticut; brother, Edward Trymer of Florida; and an aunt and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister and a brother.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Worcester, with the Rev. William Crandall as the celebrant. Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1998, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., with the family in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m., at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, Worcester.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Worcester Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 191, Worcester, N.Y. 12197; or the Leukemia Society of America, Central New York Chapter, 847 James St., Suite 201, Syracuse, N.Y. 13203.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

Jill Lintner Peper
FLY CREEK — Jill Lintner Peper, 45, of Fly Creek, died Sunday afternoon, Oct. 11, 1998, at her home.

She was born on Dec. 19, 1952, in Binghamton, a daughter of Henry and Charlotte Lintner.

Jill was raised in Mountainside, N.J., and graduated from the Governor Livingston Regional High School in Brookshire, N.J., in 1970. She later attended Montclair College. While living in New Jersey she was employed as a bookkeeper for United Counties Trust Company in Elizabeth.

In 1983, she moved to Cooperstown and was owner of The Marketplace on Main Street from 1984 until 1991. She was then employed by the New York State Historical Association as a weaver and interpreter at the Farmers Museum. From February 1993 until this year, Jill was a very devoted employee of Smith Ford in Cooperstown.

Jill enjoyed skiing and softball while living in New Jersey, and after moving to Cooperstown she exercised her love of outdoor gardening, animals and most of all people. She will be greatly missed by her family and many, many dear friends.

She is survived by her son, John Henry Peper, of Cooperstown, and his father, William J. Peper; a special aunt, Mickey Gitomer, of Silver Spring, Md; many cousins; and countless dear friends and acquantances.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1998, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown with the Rev. John R. Roos, pastor of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, officiating.

Expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to: The Trust for the Benefit of John Henry Peper, care of Dorothy Gebbia, 31 Pioneer St., Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326; Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820; or Susquehanna SPCA, R.D. No. 3, Box 64-B, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Thelma V. Grant
SLOANSVILLE — Thelma V. Grant, 89, of Sloansville, died on Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at the Guilderland Center Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1909, in Dalton, Ga., the daughter of J. Samuel and Lula (Robinson) Ray.

Mrs. Grant was married to Clair F. Grant in Oneonta in 1935. Mr. Grant died in 1967.

She was a housewife and a member of the Mount Vision Baptist Church in Mount Vision.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Alta) Lister of Laurens, and Linda Grant Banks of Sloansville. She is also survived by several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Mrs. Grant was predeceased by one sister and five brothers.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Plains Cemetery, Oneonta. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Gordon P. Rowe
DELHI — Gordon P. Rowe, 51, of Delhi, died unexpectedly Monday morning, Oct. 12, 1998, at his home.

He was born July 21, 1947, in Ann Harbor, Mich., the son of Paul F. and Vera Matthews Rowe.

He married Brenda Schriver on June 21, 1986, in Oneonta.

A United States Navy veteran, he served in Vietnam.

Gordy grew up in Andes, where he was class salutatorian and graduated high school in 1965. He received his formal education at SUNY Alfred and SUNY Delhi, where he received his A.A.S. degree in civil technology. Subsequently, he continued his education at New York University College of Engineering and Science.

A professional land surveyor, he was a partner in the firm of Rowe, Woodin, Parsons & Brovetto Associates, Engineering and Surveying, Oneonta.

A former Oneonta resident, Gordy lived in Delhi for the past 12 years, where he was a member and trustee of the First Presbyterian Church and served on the Delhi town Planning Board. He was also a member of James D. Calhoun American Legion Post No. 200, Andes; Catskill Area Association of Land Surveyors and the New York Association of Professional Land Surveyors.

Surviving are his wife of 12 years, Brenda S. Rowe; and a son, Michael D. Rowe, both at home; his mother, Vera Matthews of Andes; his father, Paul F. Rowe of Puyallup, Wash.; a sister, Lisa Rowe and her husband, Klaus Meinnsen, of Asheville, N.C.; his grandmother, Agnes Matthews of Andes; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today, when the family will be in attendance at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Arvid Whitmore officiating. Burial will follow in the Andes Cemetery, where the American Legion will accord military honors.

Contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, Delhi.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Alice V. Bergstrom
JEFFERSON — Alice V. Bergstrom, 76, of North Road,  Jefferson, died Monday, Oct. 12, 1998, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born March 11, 1922, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Axel and Telly (Kleppe) Hendricksen.

She was married to Alf Bergstrom on Feb. 19, 1944. He died Feb. 13, 1960.

Alice lived in the  Jefferson area most of her life, moving there from Bayridge, Brooklyn. She attended  Jefferson Central School.

When her boys were young, Alice was a Cub Scout den mother. She was the first woman school bus driver for the  Jefferson Central School. She was a substitute mail carrier for the  Jefferson Post Office. Alice was also a real estate saleswoman with Frank Fatta Real Estate in Oneonta and United Real Estate in South Kortright.

She was an avid bowler and a 50-year member of the Woman's Bowling Congress and participated in and won many local and state tournaments. Alice also loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, golfing and snowmobiling. She was a more than 50-year member of the Sons of Norway and a former member and past matron of the Leila Chapter O.E.S. of  Jefferson.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Buck of  Jefferson and Arlene Bergstrom of Saugerties; two sons, Ron Bergstrom and Stan Bergstrom of  Jefferson; three grandchildren, Sandra, Wendy and Daniel Crandall; and nieces and nephews. She is also survived by cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 West Main St., Stamford, with the Rev. Ralph Darmstadt, pastor of the Fleischmanns United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery,  Jefferson.

Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience on Thursday afternoon and evening. The family will be in attendance on Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Alice's memory to either the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820; or to the  Jefferson Rescue Squad,  Jefferson, N.Y. 12093.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Harold E. Hunt
MESA, Ariz. — Harold E. Hunt, 76, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Worcester, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 1998, in Mesa, Ariz., after a long illness.

He was born Dec. 5, 1921, in Worcester, the son of Erwin V. and Nina (Banker) Hunt.

Mr. Hunt was a United States Air Force veteran, serving in World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Almeda R. Hunt of Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter, Marion Kumm of Phoenix, Ariz.; a son, James E. Hunt of Waterford; two grandchildren; a sister, Grace H. Putnam of Worcester; and a brother, Paul E. Hunt of Worcester.

At Mr. Hunt's request, he was cremated and a graveside memorial service will take place at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Cemetery in Worcester at the convenience of the family at a later date.

Marjorie Crawford
NEW BERLIN — Mrs. Marjorie T. Crawford, 66, of New Berlin, died Tuesday night, Oct. 13, 1998, at her residence.

She was born Sept. 14, 1932, in Morris, the daughter of Russel Lynn and Velma (Hamilton) Thayer.

She married Frank Crawford on June 14, 1953, in Otego.

Marjorie lived in New Berlin for 27 years, having previously lived in West Laurens. Marjorie and Frank owned and operated Silverlake Farm in New Berlin. She also worked in her earlier years for Briggs Lumber Company in Oneonta.

She was president of the Del-Chenango Fiddler's Association for 20 years. She played for many benefits and churches.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Crawford of New Berlin; her mother, Velma Thayer of Oneonta Nursing Home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lynn and Patty Crawford of Silverlake Farm, New Berlin, and Wayne and Cindy Crawford of Silverlake Farm, New Berlin; one daughter, Linda Crawford of Indian Shores, Fla.; two brothers, Paul L. Thayer of Owego, and Clyde W. Thayer of  Louisiana; two aunts and an uncle, Jane Thayer of Otego, and Dorothy and Edwin Harris of Otego; eight grandchildren, Tanya, Tressica, Keona, Travis, Francis, James, Joshua, and Sabina; one great-grandson, Zachary  Taylor Sherman; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at 1:30 p.m., at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. David Wood, pastor of the West Bainbridge Baptist Church, and the Rev. Gary Folz, pastor of the Berean Baptist Church, New Berlin, officiating.

Burial will be in the Hillington Cemetery, Morris.

The family will be in attendance on Friday evening, Oct. 16, 1998, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, for those who wish to call.

It is requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Wendy Soloway, Sherburne, N.Y. 13460, granddaughter of one of Marjorie's dear friends.

George R. Kenyon
CHARLOTTEVILLE — George R. Kenyon, 72, of Charlotteville, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998, at his residence after a lengthy illness.

He was born Dec. 6, 1925, in the town of Day, the son of Benjamin and Mabel (DeLong) Kenyon.

He married Susie Stevens on March 21, 1949, in Worcester.

Mr. Kenyon was a United States Army veteran serving in World War II from 1944 to 1946.

He has lived in Charlotteville for 35 years and was a self-employed logger for many years, previously working at Ace Glove Shop in Richmondville as a glove cutter.

He is survived by his wife, Susie B. Kenyon of Charlotteville; four children, Harold Kenyon of Alabama, Larry Kenyon of Charlotteville, Betty Kenyon of Charlotteville, and Brian Kenyon of Maryland; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Arthur Kenyon of the town of Day, and Harold Kenyon of Amsterdam; three sisters, Carolina Russick of Perth, Mary Denker of Galway, and Jennie Gysin of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester, with the Rev. Robert Deugan, pastor of the First Summit Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at the Charlotteville Cemetery with military honors presented by the Worcester American Legion Post 1584.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the funeral chapel.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice Inc. and Palliative Care, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

Walter Stewart
APOLLO BEACH, Fla. — Walter Herbert Stewart, 72, of Apollo Beach, Fla., died Monday, Oct. 12, 1998, at his residence.

He moved to the area in 1971, from his native Stamford.

He was a World War II Army veteran, worked as an owner/operator at his machine shop and was a Presbyterian.

He is survived by his wife, Martha.
