Chester J. Bame
BAINBRIDGE — Chester J. Bame, 90, of Bainbridge passed away Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at the Nursing Care Facility, The Hospital, Sidney.

He was born June 15, 1908, to John David and Dora McKee Bame in  Jefferson City, Mo.

Chester married Florence Greene in 1935.

He was an antique hunter and also an avid sportsman, especially coon hunting.

Chester was employed by E.C.D. of Bendix for 27 years, until he retired in 1972.

He is survived by his wife, Florence Bame of Bainbridge; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Doris Bame of Bainbridge; his grandsons and their wives, David and Tamara Bame of Bainbridge and Douglas and Rebecca Bame of Jacksonville, Fla.; his granddaughter, Doreen Bame of Bainbridge; his sister, Veda Gustafson of Aurora, Ill.; and three great-grandchildren, Jay, Nisa and Dalton Bame.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Bainbridge, with the Rev. Thomas Margrave, vicar of St. Peter's, officiating at 11 a.m.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bainbridge Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., 21 Main St., Sidney.

Alice J. Kirby
WORCESTER — Alice J. Kirby, 55, of Worcester died suddenly on Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born March 4, 1943 in Bay Shore, the daughter of the late Edward and Jennie Theresa (Embro) Ehrle.

She married Donald Joseph Kirby II.

Alice moved to the Worcester area in 1969.

She was a member of St. Anna's Roman Catholic Church in Summit and also attended St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Worcester.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Joseph Kirby II of Worcester; a daughter and son-in-law, Donna Jean and James Empie of Missouri; two sons, Donald Joseph Kirby III of Worcester and Daniel Edward Kirby of Schenevus; three grandsons, Anthony, James and Brandon; two brothers, Allen Ehrle of Worcester and Robert Ehrle of Cobleskill; a sister, Darleen Eichholz of Riverhead; and many nieces and nephews.

At Alice's request, she was cremated and a memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. today at the Kirby residence in Worcester.

The Rev. Edward Golding, pastor of St. Anna's Roman Catholic Church in Summit, will officiate.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Memorial and Honor Program at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105-1905.

Arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

Sabine J. `Oma' Krueger
OTEGO — Mrs. Sabine J. "Oma" Krueger, 93, of Otego died Saturday evening, Oct. 17, 1998, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born Feb. 23, 1905, in Frankfurt, Germany, the daughter of Josef and Amalia (Kimmel) Kuhn.

She married Frederick W. Krueger on Feb. 23, 1930, in Germany. He died in 1969.

Sabine was known to her family and friends as "Oma." She first came to the United States in 1925, where she worked for five years, then returned to Germany where she was married. In 1931, Sabine returned to the United States with her husband, Frederick, and they resided in Brooklyn until 1945, when they moved to Otego.

She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, and enjoyed baking and traveling with her family in her later years.

Oma is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Eleanor Krueger of Montvale, N.J.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Marie Gagnon of Otego and Dottie and Roger Robinson of Otego. Also survived by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 30 River St., Otego. The Rev. Paul Roman of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, will officiate.

Burial will be in the Otego Evergreen Cemetery, Otego.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Otego after 5 p.m. today and until service time on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, at their convenience. The family will be present from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers it is requested that expressions of sympathy be made to either the Otego Fire Department or the Otego Emergency Squad, River Street, Otego, N.Y. 13825, in memory of Sabine J. "Oma" Krueger.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Marion Lane LaDuke
COOPERSTOWN — Marion Lane LaDuke of Milford died at the Bassett Hospital on Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, with her family at her side.

Born Marion Elizabeth Lane in San Francisco on July 14, 1918, the daughter of Geroge Shipman and Carmelita Lane, "Maisie" moved to Ridgewood, N.J. in the early 1930s when her father sold his patent for the automotive air brake to the Westinghouse Corporation and was hired by the company to advance the system. They later moved to Andes and then Schenevus, where Maisie graduated from Schenevus High School.

In 1938, she met and married Harry "Dutch" LaDuke in Cooperstown, where they remained to raise their family.

Maisie was later employed as a ward clerk at Bassett Hospital, a position she enjoyed and remained at for 22 years. Following her retirement, she stayed on as a volunteer.

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 60 years, Harry LaDuke, and her children: Robert and Barbara LaDuke, Walter and Patti Ashley, David and Jeanne LaDuke, and Michael and Debbie LaDuke. She also leaves her much loved granchildren: Sean and Erin LaDuke, Jeremy Bensen and Todd Ashley, Hillary, John and Patrick LaDuke, and Kyle, Courtney and Cory LaDuke. She also leaves many loving nieces and nephews and two especially caring and important people in her life, Barbara Tongue and Dr. James Dalton.

She was predeceased by her parents, a brother, John Lane, and four sisters: Katherine Petersen, Carol McMullan, Georganne Smith and Suzanne Lepori.

A memorial service will be held at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, at 1 p.m. with the Fr. John Roos of Our Lady of the Lake, St. Mary's Catholic Church presiding.

The family will be in attendance at noon. A private burial service will be at a later date.

Maisie's family wishes to express their loving and grateful thanks to the Third Floor doctors and nurses at the Bassett Hospital and would request that anyone wishing to make a donation do so in Maisie's memory to the Bassett Hospital third-floor nurses to be used for any needs they may have.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Richard D. Main Sr.
UNADILLA — Richard D. Main Sr., 58, of Old Crookerville Road, Unadilla died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at the VA Hospital in Albany.

He was born May 5, 1940, in Danbury, Conn., the son of Conrad and Alice (Houghy) Main.

He was married to Jane C. Sutton, who survives and served in the United States Navy from 1958-1959.

He was a self-employed carpenter and had been a 20-year resident of Unadilla.

Mr. Main is survived by his wife, Jane C. Main of Unadilla; two sons, Richard D. Main Jr. of Unadilla and Peter A. Main of Windsor, Conn.; a stepson, Richard Fisher of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Cindy L. Main of Tampa, Fla.; and a stepdaughter, Kathy M. Kosturock of Gulfport, Miss.; two brothers, Raymond J. Main of Kissimmee, Fla. and Conrad E. Main Jr. of Ridgefield, Conn.; a sister, Patricia A. Benadict of Venice, Fla.; also seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services have been held for the family. Interment will be held in Bridgewater, Conn. There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.

Stephen D. Smith Sr.
BAINBRIDGE — Stephen D. Smith Sr., 69, of Bainbridge passed away Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford.

Stephen was born April 2, 1929, to Clair and Nellie Stanton Smith in Coventry.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Stephen married Wylma Emhof on Nov. 12, 1960 in Edmeston.

He was employed by Borden Chemical Co. as shipping clerk until he retired in 1981.

Stephen loved hunting and fishing and was an avid bowler. He was the past president of the Bowling Hall of Fame.

Stephen is survived by his wife, Wylma Smith of Bainbridge; his son, Stephen D. Smith Jr. of Sidney; his daughter, Marsha Hayes of Bainbridge; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Harry and Thelma Smith of Bainbridge and Fred and Debbie Smith of Bainbridge; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Millus of Bainbridge and Beverly and Lawrence Rowe of Bainbridge; three grandchildren, David, Christopher and Danny Hayes of Bainbridge; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be announced at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bainbridge Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., 21 Main St., Sidney.

Ailsa Alicia Beary Wright
DELHI — Ailsa Alicia Beary Wright, 87, passed away Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She had been a resident of the Delaware County Countryside Care Center since December 1995.

She was born in Waterloo on July 22, 1911, a daughter of Addison and Sarah Dunning Beary.

She married Everett Wright on April 4, 1944.

Ailsa graduated from Waterloo High School. She was a telephone dispatcher for the Delaware County Electric Cooperative in Delhi.

She and Everett were members of the Delhi Humane Society and were the first caretakers in the new animal shelter on Route 10.

She enjoyed her hobby of lapidary and jewelry making very much.

Ailsa lived most of her adult life in Delhi. She will be remembered for her kindness and her love of small animals.

She is survived by one sister, Geraldine B. Elwell of Delhi; a sister-in-law, Virgina Beary of Leesburg, Fla.; a niece, Linda Beary of Leesburg, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Everett Wright, on March 14, 1980 and by her brother, Meredith Beary.

Calling hours will be today from 7-9 p.m.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998, at 2 p.m. at the Moxley-McCall Funeral Home Inc., 131 Main St., Delhi. The Rev. Wayne E. Muckel of the Delhi Alliance Church will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodland Cemetery.

Memorial gifts in Ailsa Wright's memory can be made to the Humane Society of Central Delaware County, Delhi; the Delaware County Countryside Care Center, Delhi or the O'Connor Hospital, Delhi.

Arrangements are by the Moxley-McCall Funeral Home Inc., Delhi.

Myrna C. Bell
DELHI — Myrna C. Bell, 96, a longtime Delhi resident, died Sunday evening, Oct. 18, 1998, at Countryside Care Center, Delhi.

The only child of Thomas and Jennie (Tweedie) Ballantyne, she was born Dec. 29, 1901, in Walton, where she grew up and married Ellsworth C. Bell on Sept. 2, 1929. After their marriage, the Bells lived in Scarsdale until moving to Delhi. Mr. Bell died Sept. 20, 1977.

A graduate of Walton High School, Myrna received a degree in fine arts from Syracuse University. She was an art teacher most of her life and taught in Treadwell, South Kortright and Walton schools, retiring in 1970.

An accomplished artist, she enjoyed painting and lent her expertise in the interior decorating of many area homes.

A resident of Delhi since 1942, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the former Watauga Chapter No. 315, O.E.S.

Surviving are one daughter, Barbara B. Bell of New Bern, N.C.; and a son, Robert E. Bell of Boston, Mass.

Friends are invited to call today, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, where the family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. and funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1998, by the Rev. Arvid Whitmore with burial following in the Hamden Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Countryside Care Center Memorial Fund, Delhi.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.
