David C. Millias
ONEONTA — David C. Millias, 56, of Oneonta, formerly of Worcester died Monday, Oct. 26, 1998, suddenly at his home.

He was born March 29, 1942, in Worcester, the son of Otho and Goldie (Barton) Millias.

He married Teresa Cicchine on June 25, 1966, in Worcester.

Dave graduated from Worcester Central School. He served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963, and spent 2½ years in Berlin, Germany. He was a retired member of the Oneonta police force.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Jill Millias of Syracuse; his daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Joel Spina of Syracuse; his son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Michelle Millias of Cooperstown; three grandchildren, Adam and Alice Spina and Hannah Millias, all of Syracuse; two sisters, Helen Huntington of Westford and Ruth Halloran of Kansas; his brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Susanne Millias of Berlin; three sisters-in-law, Barbara Nelson of Idaho, Leah Millias of Colorado and Rose Millias of Oneonta; and an aunt, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dave was predeceased by three brothers, Donald, Leonard and Richard; and a sister, Alice Phillips.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester with the Rev. George I. Goodwin, retired, officiating. Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at the funeral chapel.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Oneonta Police Benevolent Association, 79 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

Elizabeth C. Frazee
STAMFORD — Elizabeth C. Frazee, 103, of South Gilboa died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998, at Robinson Terrace in Stamford.

She was born Sept. 2, 1895, in Pine Hill, the daughter of James and Ida (Cross) Brewster.

She married Maurice Frazee Sr. on Dec. 31, 1914, in South Gilboa. Maurice died Sept. 10, 1959.

Elizabeth had been a South Gilboa resident most of her life where she and her husband owned and operated a diary farm for many years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Stamford and a charter member of the former Windy Ridge Grange in South Gilboa.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Albert and Kay Frazee of South Gilboa; six grandchildren, Larry Frazee, Jeff Frazee, Barbara Frazee, Jacki Kosalski, Jayne Sparks, and Debra Cole; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sons, Maurice Frazee Jr. and Carlton Frazee.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 West Main St., Stamford with the Rev. Stephen Herring, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Stamford, officiating. Burial will be in the Stamford Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience on Friday morning between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. prior to services.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Elizabeth's memory to the First Presbyterian Church, Main Street, Stamford, N.Y. 12167.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Roy E. Walker Jr.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Roy E. Walker Jr., 36, formerly of Oneonta, died unexpectedly on Aug. 20, 1998, in Rocky Mountain, N.C.
Roy was born on June 19, 1962, to Lois Hedgepeth Hayott and Roy E. Walker Sr.

He was raised in New York City with his sister, Sharia, by his mother and his dad, Michael Robert Hayott.

Roy began his college education at the State University College at Oneonta in 1984. Thereafter, he continued to live and work in Oneonta, where he made many close friends and touched many lives.

His next adventure took him to San Diego,  Calif., where he lived and worked for a few years before moving to Rocky Mountain, N.C., to be near his family. Throughout Roy's travels, he continued to make frequent visits to Oneonta to see his friends. He always planned to move back.

Roy had a unique generosity of spirit and a larger than life personality. The room came alive when Roy entered it. His irrepressible optimism and love of life will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

He leaves behind his mother, Lois Hedgepeth Hayott; dad, Michael Robert Hayott; father, Roy Walker Sr. and Linda; sister, Sharia; stepbrother and sister, Eric and Yolanda; many aunts, uncles and cousins; godson, Ian; and many dear and special friends in Oneonta, San Diego,  Calif., and Rocky Mountain, N.C.

In order to celebrate Roy's life, a memorial service is planned for the spring of 1999 in Oneonta.

Louise Curtis Hawe
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Louise Curtis Hawe, 93, of West James Street, died on Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998, following a brief stay at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital.

She was born on July 15, 1905, in Richfield Springs, a daughter of Howard M. and Mabel Elderkin Curtis.

Louise was raised and educated in Richfield Springs. Upon graduation from high school with the Class of 1923, she attended Richfield Springs Training Class and then continued her training as an elementary teacher at Cortland Normal School. Following her graduation from Cortland in 1927, she taught for several years on Long Island before returning to Richfield Springs. She taught second and third grades at the Richfield Springs Central School, retiring in 1970.

Louise married Edmund A. Hawe in August of 1929 in the First Presbyterian Church, Richfield Springs. They had one daughter, Georgene, and were divorced in 1939.

She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Church of Christ Uniting and a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by her daughter, Georgene C. Hawe of Richfield Springs; two nephews, Scott and Bruce Curtis; a niece, Wendy Curtis Foss, all of Farmington, N.M.; and a cousin, Ruth Hicks of Norwich.

She was predeceased by her mother, father and three brothers, Clellan D., Caulder M. and Floyd N. Curtis.

Funeral service will be on Monday at 11 a.m. in the Church of Christ Uniting with the Rev. John Wilde, pastor, officiating.

Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery at a time convenient to the family. Calling hours on Sunday are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 5 West James St., Richfield Springs.

Memorial donations may be made to the Richfield Springs Public Library or the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Helene D. Kelly
ONEONTA — Mrs. Helene D. Kelly, 103, of Oneonta, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998, at the Oneonta Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born Jan. 29, 1895, in Belford, France, the daughter of Maurice and Maria (Poirot) During.

Helene married Thomas F. Kelly on June 2, 1926, in Brooklyn. He died March 2, 1972.

She attended Milford Center Baptist Church over the years.

She is survived by her sister, Madeline Netillard of Doubs, France, and two nephews, Arthur Eisele of Collinsville, Ala., and George Eisele. Several nieces and nephews also survive as well as close friend, Audrey Finley of Oneonta.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.

The Rev. Stephen Fournier, pastor of the Milford Center Baptist Church, Milford Center, will officiate.

Burial will be in the Milford Center Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes of Oneonta and Otego.

Etta Averell Ballard
COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Etta Averell Ballard, 92, of Cooperstown died early Sunday morning, Nov. 1, 1998, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born on March 16, 1906, on Pink Street in the town of Middlefield, a daughter of Lewis and Carrie L. (Vunk) Averell.

She married Clyde K. Ballard on Sept. 18, 1924, in Cooperstown. He died on Oct. 25, 1973.

Etta was raised in Cooperstown and attended Cooperstown schools. For 34 years, she was employed at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, first working as an operating room technician. She later became manager of Central Service, retiring in 1977. Etta also worked as a domestic in the Cooperstown area, with employers including The Beasley School and Tom Goodyear. She also baby-sat for many of the Bassett Hospital doctors' families.

A longtime member of the Cooperstown United Methodist Church, Etta was also a member of the Native Daughters of Cooperstown, Otsego-Hartwick Chapter No. 201, Order of the Eastern Star, Redwing and Pocohantas.

Etta's family wishes to thank everyone at The Meadows for their kind, considerate and understanding care.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Clyde S. (Bud) Ballard and his wife, Evelyn Murphy Ballard and Robert L. Ballard and his wife, Jean Solarchik Ballard, all of Cooperstown; four granddaughters, Barbara LaDuke Tongue and her husband, James and Nancy Ballard and her husband, Richard Bailey, all of Cooperstown, Deborah Ballard of Alexandria, Va. and Karen Dailey and her husband, Douglas, and family of Oneonta; two grandsons, Stephen Ballard and his wife, Rhonda of Shallotte, N.C. and Joseph Bozosi and his wife, Susan and family of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two great-granddaughters, Hillary Bass LaDuke of Milford and Lindsay Cole Bailey of Cooperstown; one sister, Betty Coleman of Hartwick Seminary; one brother, Herbert L. Averell of Pompano Beach, Fla.; an important person in Etta's life, Edna Briscoe; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Averell and a sister, Mrs. Edna Haynor, formerly of Rome.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown with the Rev. Jeff Hale, pastor of the Cooperstown United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday afternoon from 1 p.m. until service time, when Etta's family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to the Activities Fund, care of The Meadows, 140 County Highway 33 W., Cooperstown, N.Y 13326.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Charles Wesley Coote
WEST CHESTER, Pa. — Charles Wesley Coote, 86, of West Chester, Pa. and formerly of Otego, died on Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998, at the Brandywine Hall Care Center, West Chester, Pa.

He was the husband of the late Evelyn J. Coote, who died Sept. 20, 1996, following 62 years of marriage.

He was born in Mullingar, county of Westmeath, Ireland, the son of the late Robert B. and Sarah Gilhooley Coote.

He immigrated to the U.S. in 1914 and graduated from high school in Madison.

He owned and operated Coote's Grocery Store in Otego for more than 25 years.

He moved to West Chester, Pa. in 1995.

He had been a member of the Otego Methodist Church, was a former, longtime member and past president and past secretary of the Otego Rotary Club, was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 1260 of Oneonta and had been a member of Pleasant Valley/Susquehanna Valley Grange, Pleasant Valley for more than 70 years.

He is survived by one son, William A. Coote of Oakland, N.J.; and two daughters; Karen Louise Coote Feess of Holbrook, Ariz. and Zada Ann Coote Pirollo of Downingtown, Pa.; and one sister, Geneva Kingsbury of Seneca; four grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.

Services and interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Otego Rotary Club, Otego, N.Y. 13825 or to the Brandywine Hall Care Center, care of Activities Department, 800 West Miner St., West Chester, Pa. 19382.

Arrangements are by the Boyd Funeral Home, Inc. West Chester, Pa.

Eloise S. Crumb
BURLINGTON FLATS — Eloise S. "Aunt Ellie" Crumb, 88, passed away Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, in the Masonic Home, Utica.

She was born Aug. 20, 1910, in Leonardsville, the daughter of Fred and Ellen Collins Crumb.

She was a graduate of Leonardsville High School. Ellie was a member of the Burlington Flats United Methodist Church. She enjoyed taking care of children. Her greatest joy was her love of animals and flowers.

Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Ina Crumb of West Winfield; nieces, Janet and husband, Richard Baulch of Burlington Flats, Mary Lou Dauchy of Burlington Flats; a nephew, Walton and wife, Evelyn Dauchy of Burlington Flats; and other loving family members.

She was predeceased by sisters and a brother and a nephew, Jack Dauchy.

The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at the Wilcox-Dimbleby Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Highfield officiating. Interment will be in Burlington Flats Cemetery. Calling hours are today from 2 p.m. until funeral time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Burlington Flats United Methodist Church or the Masonic Home. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Donald A. Davis
FLY CREEK — Donald A. Davis, 81, of Fly Creek died Friday morning, Oct. 30, 1998, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

He was born on Sept. 11, 1917, in the town of Plainfield, a son of William O. and Grace (Hitchcock) Davis.

He first married Helen L. Curtis on June 10, 1939, in West Exeter. She died on July 22, 1984. He then married Helen (Puputti) Gage on Nov. 30, 1985, at the Fly Creek United Methodist Church.

Don was raised in the town of Plainfield and attended Huntley Corners School and West Winfield Central School. Following school, he worked for several area farms and feed stores. For many years, Don was also employed as a heavy equipment operator for many construction companies in the area. Don was employed as a tractor trailer driver for several companies, including C.&E. Trucking and Frank's Express, where he made daily freight runs to Binghamton.

While working for Adler's Milk in Fort Plain he was especially proud to be the first person to drive a double milk tanker into New York City. From 1985 until 1996, he was the owner of Donald Davis Sales and Service in Fly Creek. The business was Don's pride and joy, and there he enjoyed fixing chain saws, lawn mowers and snowmobiles, and visiting with customers and friends.

A longtime and devoted member of the Fly Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Don served as fire chief from 1967 until 1969 and fire commissioner of the Fly Creek Fire District until December of 1997. Don was a member of the Fly Creek United Methodist Church and also served his community as a justice of the peace for the town of Otsego from 1965 until 1985.

Don was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. A member of the Sportsman's Federation and a past member of Trout Unlimited, he was well-known for his black and tan coonhounds, which he raised and trained, winning many trophies with them. Additionally, he enjoyed football, building stock cars and watching NASCAR.

Don is survived by his wife of 12 years, Helen of Fly Creek; one son, Duane A. Davis and his wife, Helen, of Ada, Ohio; one daughter, Joan Willems Morrison and her husband, William, of Daytona Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Davis and his wife, Kelly, of Alpharetta, Ga., Jill Davis of Philadelphia, Gregory Willems and his wife, Kayma, of College Station,  Texas and Brian Willems of California; three great-granddaughters; one great-grandson; one brother, Gerald (Ged) Davis and his wife, Gertrude; and one sister, Nellie (Davis) Talbot, all of West Winfield; one stepson, Robert D. Gage of West Burlington; one stepdaughter, Barbara Gage Stephenson of Cooperstown; one stepgrandson, Gerald Patrick Gage; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one great-grandson, Tyler Davis; two brothers, Fred and Harold Davis; one brother-in-law, Robert Talbot; and one sister-in-law, Judy Davis.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home, Cooperstown, with the Rev. Eileen J. Kellogg, pastor of the Fly Creek United Methodist Church, officiating. The Fly Creek Volunteer Fire Department's Rescue Truck, R16, will bear Don to the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery for burial following the service.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., when Don's family will be in attendance.

Expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to Fly Creek Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 41, Fly Creek, N.Y. 13337-0041 or the Fly Creek United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 128, Fly Creeek, N.Y. 13337-0128.
