Jay Merrill Moore
CHERRY VALLEY — Jay Merrill Moore, 17, passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, as the result of an automobile accident.

He was born in Cooperstown on Feb. 26, 1981. He was a member of the Cherry Valley-Springfield Class of 1999, the CV-S Drama Club, Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 37, Explorer Post 2037 of the Cherry Valley Fire Department, Cherry Valley Presbyterian Church, and the United States Army Reserve 1019th Quartermaster Company.

Jay is survived by his mother and stepfather, Merrilyn and Frank Proper of Cherry Valley; his father and stepmother, Floyd and Fran Moore of Ballston Lake; grandparents, Barb and Ted Duesler of Cherry Valley, and Blencoe Moore of Middlefield; brothers, Richard Moore of South Onondaga, Bryan Moore of Ballston Lake; stepsisters, Amanda Moore of Ballston Lake, Lucy A. Proper of Morris, and Holly M. Proper of Cherry Valley; aunts and uncles, Fred and Amy Herr of Cherry Valley, Rick and Theresa Duelser of Grand Forks, Air Force Base, N.D., Helen Madeline Moore, Dan and Nellie Moore, John and Dora Moore, all of Middlefield; a great-uncle, Richard Baker of Johnstown; a great-grand aunt, Evelyn Wilms of Syracuse; a niece, Elizabeth Moore of South Onondaga; stepnieces and nephews, Shawna and Billy Guardi of Morris; great-uncles and aunts, Dr. and Mrs. Louis Tremonte of Gloversville, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Van Duesen, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Van Alstyne, all of Fonda, Marge Oliver, Cel Corkwell, Margaret and Fred Morris, Marion Mcguire, Judy and Roland Martin, Grace and Bill Hoff; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Cherry Valley on Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ronald Fralick officiating. A military burial will follow in the Cherry Valley Cemetery, Cherry Valley.

Calling hours will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.,

Contributions in Jay's memory may be made to the Jay Moore Scholarship Fund, CV-S School, attention Sue Higgins, P.O. Box 485, Cherry Valley, N.Y. 13320.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Frank Briguglio Sr.
ONEONTA — Frank A. Briguglio Sr., 78, of Oneonta, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, after an extended illness.

He was born July 22, 1920, in Girard, Ohio, the son of John and Josephine (Miseria) Briguglio.

He married Rose Amarose on Oct. 19, 1941, in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta.

Frank was a veteran of World War II serving as a staff sergeant with the United States Army.

For many years, prior to his retirement in 1982, Frank and his brother, James V. Briguglio, operated Eastern Steel and Metal Co. on Main Street in Oneonta. He also was the founder of Tri County Glass Corporation.

He was a member of St. Mary's Church, BPOE 1312, and the Sixth Ward Athletic Club.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Briguglio of Oneonta; a son and his wife, Frank A. and Kyle Briguglio Jr. of Oneonta and Stuart, Fla.; a granddaughter, Amy Briguglio of Boston, Mass.; and two brothers, Arthur and Ernest Briguglio. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Anthony N. Briguglio, in 1991, and a brother, James V. Briguglio, in 1995.

A private funeral service was held on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta, with the Rev. Robert Longobucco, associate pastor of St. Mary's Church, officiating. Burial followed in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Anthony N. Briguglio Scholarship Fund, 75 Chestnut St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements were by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Nicholas Deleski
MILWAUKIE, Ore. — Nicholas John Deleski, 35, of Milwaukie, Ore., died unexpectedly as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Sunday, Nov. 15, 1998, in Oregon.

He was born March 15, 1963, at A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta.

Nick was raised and educated in Laurens. Upon graduating from high school in 1981, he attended and graduated from the State University College at Oneonta. Nick was an avid outdoorsman, as shown by his love for hunting, sports, skiing and boating.

An accomplished snowboarder, Nick moved to Milwaukie, Ore., in 1992. He was employed by Sysco Inc. in Oregon as a sales representative.

He is survived by his father, Edwin Deleski Jr. of South New Berlin; and his mother, Lesley Deleski of Hamden; three brothers, Matthew J. Deleski of Manhatten, Jason J. and his wife, Cathy Deleski, of Otego, Jeremy and his wife, Barbara Deleski, of Morris Plains, N.J.; his paternal grandfather, Edwin Deleski Sr. of South New Berlin; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church on Walnut Street in Oneonta with the Rev. Paul Roman officiating.

To celebrate Nick's life a viewing service is planned for Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Alfred R. Buffoni
MARGARETVILLE — Alfred R. Buffoni, 86, of Margaretville, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at the Margaretville Memorial Hospital, Margaretville.

He was born Oct. 25, 1912, in Bristol, Conn., the son of Antonio Buffoni and Maria Pompaluna.

He married Wilma Ruscoe in May 1934, at Pound Ridge. She died in 1960.

He worked for the refuse business in Pound Ridge for 17 years. He also worked for the Pound Ridge Highway Department for 11 years.

He was a charter member of the Pound Ridge Fire Department.

For the past year he has lived at Kirkside Adult Home in Roxbury. In prior years he lived in Pound Ridge and Margaretville.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Donald and Rosemary Buffoni and Richard Buffoni; one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Timothy Allen; two brothers, George Buffoni and Charles Buffoni; two sisters, Ida Long and Lee Curtis Carlson; seven grandchildren; four great-grandsons; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one brother, Louis.

Prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, with the Rev. George Carpenter officiating at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Funeral service will be at the Community Church in Pound Ridge, Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at 12:30 p.m. with the Rev. Frank Denton officiating. Burial will be in Pound Ridge Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Joseph Capobianco
GUILFORD — Joseph Capobianco, 53, of 111 Nickolas St., Guilford, formerly of Kings Park, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.

He was born on Aug. 2, 1945, in Brooklyn, the son of the late Michael J. and Virginia (Ruggerio) Capobianco.

On Feb. 13, 1965, in Smithtown, he married Jo Ann Underwood, who survives.

Joe was self-employed as a dry-wall finisher in the area for many years.

Besides his wife, Jo Ann of Guilford, he is survived by his son, Dominick Capobianco of Faibanks, Alaska; his daughters, Ragina Gardepe of Bainbridge and Tina Nuzzo of Kings Park; his brother, George Misiano of Bainbridge; and eight grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Clayton Funeral Home, 25 Meadow Road, Kings Park, on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998, from 7 to 9 p.m., where a prayer service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998, at 10 a.m. They may also call at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, on Thursday, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, from 10 to 11 a.m., when a prayer service will be held. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Guilford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Guilford Emergency Squad, Guilford, N.Y. 13780.

Stanley G. Soule
LEXINGTON — Stanley G. Soule, 72, of Lexington, died Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at his residence.

He was born on July 2, 1926, in Jewett, to Charles A. and Sarah (nee Vermilya) Soule.

Mr. Soule was a cattle dealer and farmer for many years in Lexington.

He is survived by his children, Elaine Grange and her husband, Roger, Jeanette Goff and her husband, Robert, Pamela Berry and her husband, Jeff, Doreen Mauer and her husband, Richard, Sarah Soule, Heidi Brainerd and her husband, Eddie, Sherrie Soule and Stanley Soule and his wife, Janine; and by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving companion, Joan Whitney, who cared for him for 19 years, and her children, Jimmy, Joanne and Christine. His surviving siblings include brothers, Audrey, Harrison and Clarence Soule, and sisters, Daisy Van Etten, Dorothy Giordano and Nettie Howard.

Private cremation took place on Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at the Albany Rural Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the care of Decker Funeral Home, Windham.

If so desired, the family requests that donations may be made in his memory to the Lexington Rescue Squad.

Douglas L. Thomson
WALTON — Douglas L. Thomson, a lifetime resident of Walton, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at his home surrounded by his family and friends after a long battle with cancer.

He was born March 24, 1947, the son of Milton and Veda Alexander Thomson.

He married Margaret "Meg" McCabe on Nov. 2, 1996.

At the time of his passing, Doug was a sales representative for Zep Manufacturing, having resigned his post as sales manager at the time of his illness. He was also a salesman for Harvestore and had also sold veterinary supplies.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1967-1971. He was a graduate of Walton Central School and Delhi College.

Following the tradition established by his parents, Doug freely gave of his time and talents to the good of the larger community. He was a founding officer and member of the Walton Jaycees and a member of the Walton Central School District Board of Education. His generosity was extended to the youth of his community in building playgrounds, supporting athletic endeavors, and encouraging academic excellence. A champion cattle showman, Doug loved the Delaware County Fair and supported its annual August Run in several ways. He was a member of the Walton United Presbyterian Church.

His deep and abiding faith was mixed with a rich sense of humor and a love of life which he shared with all he met.

He is survived by his wife, Meg of Walton; his beloved children, Jason, Damien and Angela; his stepson, Shawn, and his mother, Veda, all of Walton. He is also survived by countless friends and associates.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at 2 p.m. from his church, with the Rev. Dr. Miriam L. Hathaway, pastor, and the Rev. Bert More officiating. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday evening, Nov. 19, 1998, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Lyon Bros.-Way, Inc. Funeral Chapel.

Persons wishing to do so may make memorial contributions to the "Just for Kids Scholarship Fund" at the National Bank of Delaware County, 133 Delaware St., Walton, N.Y., 13856 or the United Presbyterian Church, Corner of East and North St., Walton, N.Y., 13856 in his name.

Henry Meyerhoff
EAST MEREDITH — Henry William Meyerhoff, 78, of East Meredith, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, due to complications from a severe stroke on Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998.

He was born May 24, 1920, in North Campen, Germany. Henry moved to America in 1924. He is the son of Henry and Marie (Ehlerman) Meyerhoff.

He married Doris May Storey on Jan. 25, 1947, in Oneonta.

Henry was a electroplater at Bendix in Sidney for 31 years, having retired in June 1984.

He was a very active member of the East Meredith Presbyterian Church. He loved gardening, fishing and spending time in the outdoors. He liked to travel to view the countryside and most enjoyed time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Meyerhoff of East Meredith; daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and David Beers of East Meredith; son and daughter-in-law, William and Maureen Meyerhoff of Moorsville, N.C.; six grandchildren, Malissa MacDonald of Maryland, Thomas Beers of East Meredith, Lisa Beers of Philadelphia, Pa., William Meyerhoff II of Moorsville, N.C., Ryneanne Meyerhoff of Moorsville, N.C., and Ty John Meyerhoff of Moorsville, N.C.; four great-grandsons; brother and sister-in-law, Eric and Ruth Meyerhoff of Meridale; one aunt; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at 1 p.m. at the East Meredith Presbyterian Church, East Meredith, with the Rev. Tracie Martin, pastor of the East Meredith Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in the East Meredith Cemetery, East Meredith.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, at their convenience after 3 p.m., the family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. for those who wish may call on Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the East Meredith Presbyterian Building Fund, East Meredith, N.Y. 13757.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Carl J. Spinola
UNADILLA — Carl J. Spinola, 61, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 18, 1998, at The Hospital in Sidney.

Carl was born Aug. 14, 1937, in Oneonta, the son of Jerome J. and Frances (Shelley) Spinola.

After Carl graduated from Oneonta High School, he left the area to enlist in the Army. After leaving the Army he married Ann Beck and resided in Derby, Conn. He returned to the Oneonta area in 1994. While in Connecticut he was employed as the superintendent of the Long Shore Country Club in Westport, Conn., and later employed at the Norwalk Company in Norwalk, Conn.

Carl was a member of the American Legion in Connecticut, Hudson Highland Retreads Motorcycle Club and the Oneonta Eagles.

He is survived by two sons and daughter-in-laws, Jerome and Rebecca Spinola of Ansonia, Conn., and Anthony and Elizabeth Spinola of Groton, Conn.; a daughter and son-in-law, Valarie and Steven Britto of Trumbull, Conn.; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Samantha, Pensilynn, Serleen, Judyann and Ryan Spinola, and Steven, Joseph and Thomas Britto; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Jaywon; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerome "Jerry" and Susan Spinola Jr. of Oneonta; three sisters, Josephine Bredesen of Irving,  Texas, Delores Shorrock of Ansonia, Conn., and Mary Ann Spinola Spoor of Ormond Beach, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Susan and Philip Youngs of Unadilla; two aunts, Josephine Spinola and Leona Daniels of Oneonta; several cousins, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Paul A. Roman, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

The family will receive friends 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Marion R. Davis
MORRIS — Marion R. Davis, 72, of 18 West St., Morris, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at her home.

She was born Nov. 2, 1926, in Ilion, the daughter of the late Palmer and Blanche (Burdick) Ray.

She was married to Nathan Van Davis, Sept. 27, 1946, in Ilion, who passed away April 25, 1995.

She was a homemaker and loving mother and had resided in Morris since 1953, and previously in Rome.

She was a member of the Zion Episcopal Church of Morris and in her younger years had served as a den mother of Pack No. 3, Cub Scouts.

Marion is survived by her children, Jeanne D. Hengey and her husband, Bruce, of Telford, Pa., Pamela D. Cole and her husband, David, of Westford, Susan M. Knowles of Colorado Springs,  Colo., and Jeffrey J. Davis of Morris; her grandchildren include, Sandra L. Cole and friend, Patrick O'Donnell Jr., of Oneonta, Darrick J. Cole of Westford, Erin J. MacDonald and friend, Matthew Jones, of Colorado Springs,  Colo., Amanda Knowles of Colorado Springs,  Colo.; and great-grandchildren include, Kailee E. O'Donnell, Patrick O'Donnell and Marcus Jones. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Sarah D. Espy of Wilmington, Del.; four nieces, Diana Stuart of Ilion, Blanche Albin of Douglassville, Ga., Ruth Booth of Wilmington, Del., and Margaret Monck of Dallas,  Texas.

She was predeceased by a son, Van Edward (Pete) Davis, two grandsons, Damian J. Cole and Scott M. MacDonald, and a twin sister, Margaret R. Stuart.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998, at 11 a.m. at the Zion Episcopal Church in Morris with the Rev. John Scott III officiating and interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Bridgewater.

It was Marion's request that no calling hours be held.

Those who wish may donate to the American Cancer Society in her memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.
