Theodore Dornburgh
PLEASANT BROOK — Mr. Theodore E. Dornburgh (Scookie), 65, passed away Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at his home.

He was born Aug. 11, 1933, in Pleasant Brook, the son of Frank E. Sr. and Gladys (Baxter) Dornburgh.

On Sept. 15, 1956, he married Marian Hubbell in Middlefield.

Mr. Dornburgh served in the United States Army from 1953-1955, he worked for 33 years at Life-Savers, Canajoharie, and eight years at the Otesga Hotel, Cooperstown.

He is survived by his wife, Marian Dornburgh of Roseboom; a daughter, Tammi Ritton of Pleasant Brook; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank Jr. and Esther Dornburgh of Cherry Valley, Emery and Ruth Dornburgh of Cherry Valley and Gerald and Joyce Dornburgh of Fort Plain; five grandchildren, Travis Dornburgh, Kyel, Theodore Ritton, James, Andrea Duncan; great-grandchildren, Halie and Dakota Dornburgh; two aunts, Marcia Edwards of Milford and Beatrice Hotailing of Palatine Bridge; and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents and a daughter, Cindy M. Dornburgh in 1977.

Cremation took place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family, who will receive friends at their home at any time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Helen F. Cook
SUMMERFIELD, Fla. — Mrs. Helen F. Cook, 81, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Summerfield, Fla., died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at the Lake Regional Nursing Center, Leesburg, Fla.

She was born July 3, 1917, in Roxbury, the daughter of Louis D. and Olive D. (Tompkins) Cronk.

She married Donald Cook on Sept. 27, 1947. He died in 1979.

She was a retired homemaker. She moved to Summerfield, Fla., from Roxbury, in 1973.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Summerfield, Fla.

She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Blodgette of Delhi; three nephews, James L. Cronk of Bloomville, Philip D. Blodgette of Columbia, S.C., and Gene S. Cronk of Roxbury; and a cousin, Betty T.  Jones of Grand Gorge.

She was predeceased by three brothers, James, Gerald and Eugene W., all of Roxbury.

Funeral arrangements have been arranged by Hiers Belleview Funeral Home, Belleview, Fla.

Dora Bell
DELHI — Dora Bell, 88, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

Mrs. Bell came to the United States in her early teens. She received her nursing degree in Atlantic City, N.J., and was formerly employed in Morristown, N.J., M.I. Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, and A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

Mrs. Bell is survived by three nieces in Ireland and a cousin, Anna Goodrich of Delhi.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the spring in the Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Arrangements are by Moxley-McCall Funeral Home, Delhi.

James P. Seeber
LAURENS — Mr. James P. Seeber, 82, of Laurens died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, at Albany Medical Center, Albany.
He was born April 28, 1916, in Laurens, the son of Paul G. and Matilda C. (Atkins) Seeber.

He married the former Katherine Jester on May 21, 1939. She died Oct. 5, 1983.

Jim was employed by Ralston Purina Co. and Agway for 30 years as a truck driver. Following his retirement he became a truck driver for the village of Laurens and was also a custodian of the walks and lawns for the village.

Jim was a member of the Laurens Presbyterian Church, where he was very active and had served on the session as well as having been a deacon at one time. A 51-year member of the Laurens Fire Department, he served as fire chief for 15 years and was awarded the Fireman of the Year Award in 1986. He currently served as a fire police captain, served on the Fire Commission and the Laurens Emergency Squad. Jim was a town councilman and had served on the Laurens Village Board for 31 years. He was a very active member of the Laurens F and AM Lodge No. 548 and became a member on March 1, 1957. Jim served as master of the Laurens Lodge in 1965 and was also a past treasurer of the Lodge. He served as a grand lodge officer serving as grand stewart in 1984 under Calvin G. Bond, grand master of the state of New York.

Jim traveled to several Masonic Functions over the years with the late Wilmer Bresee and Earl Aldrich of Oneonta. He received the Dedicated Service Award in 1981. Jim also served as a past master of the Oneonta Lodge of Perfection and was a member of the Consistory in Binghamton AASRNMJ.

As a pastime he enjoyed camping as well as square dancing with his close companion, Wanda Perry.

He is survived by his four daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Leland (Betty) Scott of Schenevus, Mrs. Harry (Dorothy) Walke of Schenevus, Mrs. Mitchell (Helen) McMullen of Laurens and Mrs. Paul (Kay) Cooper of Schenevus; Jim's close friend and companion, Wanda Perry of Laurens; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Seeber of Watertown; a niece, Cynthia Fisher of Synder; a nephew, Kenneth Seeber of Lowville; six grandchildren, William Rogers, Tabatha Carrigan, Kathleen Scott, Jesse McMullen, Matthew Cooper and James Cooper; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth Seeber.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, from the Laurens Presbyterian Church, Laurens with the Rev. Harry Myers, pastor of Laurens Presbyterian Church, Laurens, officiating. Burial will be in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, on Thursday at their convenience. The family will be present at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998. Laurens Fire Department will conduct a service at 7 p.m. followed by the Laurens F and AM Lodge No. 548 conducting services at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to either the Laurens Presbyterian Church, Laurens Fire Department or the Laurens F and AM Lodge No. 548 in memory of James P. Seeber.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Florence Michaels
FLY CREEK — Mrs. Florence W. Michaels, 87, of Fly Creek, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at her home.

Florence was born in the Thanksgiving Hospital in Cooperstown, a daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Belle (Ferris) Wilson on April 2, 1911.

Mrs. Michaels graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1927, State Normal School in Oneonta in 1930, and received her B.S. degree for special education from the State University College at Oneonta in 1963.

Florence married Paul Michaels, who predeceased her in 1977, on June 22, 1933.

She started teaching school in one-room school houses in the area and retired after 30 years. In addition to teaching, she and her husband operated Mohican Craftsman, an antique business in Fly Creek.

Mrs. Michaels was a member of Chapter 201 Order of the Eastern Star, Otsego Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, was historian for the town of Otsego, a founding member of the Fly Creek area Historical Society, a member of the United Methodist Women, and an active member of the Fly Creek United Methodist Church for more than 80 years. Florence volunteered for Meals on Wheels, as well as tutoring. She and her husband enjoyed square dancing, especially after her retirement.

Florence is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Paula and William Schaeffer of Fly Creek; a son and daughter-in-law, Wilson (Mac) and Joyce Michaels of Leander,  Texas; two grandsons, Laurence Michaels of Waterbury, Conn., and Michael Schaeffer (residing in Japan); a granddaughter, Lucy Schaeffer of New Haven, Conn.; two nephews, John and Ernest Chase of Cooperstown; in addition to several other nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Dr. Agnes Michaels; and a brother-in-law, Rolan Mumford.

She was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Earl Chase, and a brother, Le Roy Wilson.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at the Fly Creek United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eileen Kellogg, resident pastor of the Fly Creek United Methodist Church, and the Rev. William Highfield, former pastor of the Cooperstown U.M.C., officiating.

Calling hours will be on Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, when the family will be in attendance. Burial will be at the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions in her name to the Fly Creek United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Leslie B. Sarrge
SCOTIA — Leslie "Sarge" Sarrge, 87, died Tuesday evening, Dec. 8, 1998, at the Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.

Sarge was a longtime resident of Oneonta having resided for 20 years at Nader Towers until he moved to Glendale Nursing Home in Scotia.

He was born Sept. 18, 1911, in Hobart, the son of Antonio and Florence (Bunn) Sarrge. Sarge married Carrabelle Hall on Nov. 17, 1932. They were married for more than 62 years, until her death on Feb. 2. 1995.

During World War II Sarge was employed at Scintella in Sidney. He was a well-known chef at the Karmel Korn, Hofer's Diner, Winney Hotel and retired after 20 years of employment at Molinari's Restaurant in Oneonta.

Mr. Sarrge is survived by a daughter, Joyce Osborne of Oneonta; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Beverly Sarrge of Schenectady; four grandchildren, Dale and Keith Osborne of Oneonta, Wayne Sarrge of San Diego,  Calif., and Richard Sarrge of Radford, Va.; five great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Vesta "Pat" Sarrge of  Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Carrabelle Sarrge; a brother, Fred Sarrge, on Oct. 6, 1994; and his sister, Myrtle Barnes, on May 15, 1995.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta. Burial will follow at Roger Hollow Cemetery, Unadilla Center. The Rev. Royal Mattoon, pastor of the Southside Wesleyan Church, will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta.

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Ralph J. Marble Jr.
SIDNEY — Ralph J. Marble Jr., 84, of Sidney, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at Binghamton General Hospital, Binghamton.

He was born to the late Ralph and Edna Slawson Marble on March 21, 1914, in Sidney.

Ralph married L. June Halbert on Jan. 23, 1937, in Guilford. She predeceased him on Jan. 27, 1970.

Ralph served in the Civil Conservation Corp. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church, the Loyal Order of Moose, No. 277, Sidney, a life member of the Lodge of the Elks, No. 2175, Sidney, a member of the Veterans Club, Charles L. Jacobi Post 183, American Legion, Sidney, a past member of the Sidney Fire Department, and Cartwright Hook and Ladder and the I.A.M. & A.W. Local 1529.

He is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Ann Marble of Greene, Wayne and Diane Marble of Binghamton and Colin Kelly of Sidney; one daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Kenneth Leizear of Unadilla; one brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Helen Marble of Rochester, Minn.; one special niece and her husband, Sandra and Clay Conover of Unadilla; nine grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home on Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Masland of the United Methodist Church, Sidney, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., 21 Main St., Sidney.

Catherine Bobik
SIDNEY — Catherine Bobik, 83, of Sidney, passed away Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, at Albemarle Hospital in Elizabeth City, N.C.

She was born to the late Carlo and Angelica Iaretti Benna on June 22, 1915, in Phillipsburg, N.J.

Catherine married Edward Bobik on Dec. 9, 1939, in North Bergen, N.J. He predeceased her on April 20, 1994.

She was a member of the Sidney Senior Citizens.

Catherine is survived by her sister-in-law, Jane Benna of Masonville; three nieces and their spouses, Gina and Stewart Jordan of Camden, N.C., Angela and John Carey of Williamston, Mich., and Joan and Ray Kirkpatrick of Sarasota, Fla.; one nephew and spouse, Tony and Debbie Benna of Slingerlands.

She is predeceased by two brothers, Mario and Frank Benna, and a sister, Emma Weber.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, the family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held Saturday evening. Interment will be in Walton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., 21 Main St., Sidney.

Richard Dietze
GREENVILLE, Pa. — Richard Ernst Dietze of Greenville, Pa., and formerly of Oneonta, passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998.

He was born Aug. 8, 1913, in Munich, Germany. He came to the United States to live in Maine in 1954.

He worked as a painter and artist and was a veteran of World War II in which he was a member of the Alpine rescue unit.

He was a humanitarian and very supportive of his church in later years.

Richard Dietze was predeceased by his wife, Matilda, and a daughter, Helen.

He is survived by two sons, Peter of Norwood and Richard of Dumont, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Roger and John Escobar, JoAnn Keefe, Michelle McDoal and Christine, Lori, Christopher and Peter Dietze Jr.; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at 2:30 p.m. in the Southside Wesleyan Church, 5300 State Highway 23, Oneonta. The Rev. Royal Mattoon, assisted by the Rev. Peter Dietze, will conduct the service.

Helen Harmon
ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — Helen Dietze Harmon of Zephyrhills, Fla., and formerly of Oneonta, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998.

Helen was born April 23, 1943, to Richard and Matilda Dietze in Munich, Germany, and came to the United States when she was 11. She was a homemaker most of her life and enjoyed knitting, making quilts and crafts.

Helen is survived by her husband, Milton Harmon; two sons, Roger and John Escobar of Oneonta; two daughters, JoAnn and husband, Michael Keefe, of Milford and Michelle and husband, Bill McDoal, of Roscoe; eight grandchildren, Ann Marie, Roger, Sara, Jeremiah, Dana, Corey, Rodney and Michael; one great-granchild, Monica; and two brothers, Peter of Norwood and Richard of Dumont, N.J.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, at 2:30 p.m. in the Southside Wesleyan Church, 5300 State Highway 23, Oneonta. The Rev. Royal Mattoon, assisted by the Rev. Peter Dietze, will conduct the service.
