Kenneth L. Graig
HOBART — Kenneth L. Graig, 82, of Hobart, died Jan. 7, 1999, in the town of Kortright.

He was born May 3, 1916, in Davenport, the son of Levern and Ada Brockway Graig.

He married the late Esther Warner Graig in Gilbertsville on Aug. 22, 1936. She passed away April 19, 1985.

He worked for several years as a mechanic for Frank McMullen in Hobart. He ran the Davenport Feed Store and drove a school bus in Davenport. He retired as a mechanic from George Flower and Son of Hobart.

He was a member of the Hobart United Methodist Church.

Mr. Graig had a comical sense of humor and loved to tell stories, which were enjoyed by his family and friends. He was also an avid fisherman.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Juanita) Martin of Bloomville; a son, Kenneth W. Graig of Arizona; a foster daughter, Mary Jane Miller of North Carolina; a sister, Mrs. Betty Tiejien of Walton; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Charles L. Graig, who passed away March 4, 1996.

A celebration of his life will take place in the spring with a graveside service at the Davenport Cemetery, Davenport.

Burial will be in the Davenport Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home in Hobart.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are by the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Jack Mason
SIDNEY — Jack Mason, 77, of Sidney, passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at Wilson Memorial Hospital,  Johnson City.

He was born June 3, 1921, to the late John and Agnes Cruickshank Mason in Glasgow, Ireland.

He served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. Jack married Evelyn Bell. She predeceased him Oct. 2, 1986.

He was a pump operator for New York Water in Merrick until he retired.

Jack was a member of Charles L. Jacobi American Legion Post No. 183 in Sidney, VFW Corporal R.H. Arrandale Post No. 7914 in Sidney, was an active Mason in Bainbridge and Babylon, was a past governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 277 in Sidney and was a past chaplain for the Lodge of the Elks No. 2175 in Sidney.

Jack is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Marie Mason of Valley Stream; two grandchildren, Geoffrey and Leslie; and a good friend, Sheri Pell of Sidney.

Friends may call Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, from 3-5 p.m. at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Memorial services will be conducted on Sunday at 5 p.m. from the funeral chapel. The Lodge of the Elks No. 2175 will officiate.

Interment will be in Pinelawn Cemetery, Pinelawn.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Marion Sutter
SEATTLE, Wash. — Mrs. Marion Anna "Pash" Pashley Sutter, born Dec. 8, 1912, in Oneonta, where she lived for 70 years, died Jan. 8, 1999, in Seattle, Wash., at age 86.

She graduated from Oneonta High School in 1929 and from Hartwick College in 1933.

She married Donald M. Sutter in Oneonta on Dec. 8, 1940.

She was a homemaker and an English teacher at  Jefferson and Valley Stream. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Marion enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling. She was an excellent golfer and an avid reader. She loved her family and grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Mrs. Sutter is survived by her husband of 58 years, Donald M. Sutter of Issaquah, Wash.; daughters Karen J. Spaulding of Issaquah, Wash., and Nancy L. Dean of Sudbury, Mass.; sons William F. Sutter of Bellevue, Wash., and Karl E. Sutter of Kirkland, Wash.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at Green Funeral Home in Bellevue, Wash.

Remembrances in Marion's name may be sent to Virginia Mason, Heart Research Fund, V.M. Foundation, Department 34, P.O. Box 34935, Seattle, Wash. 98124.

Ruth M. Yetman
FRANKLIN — Ruth M. Yetman, 86, of Franklin, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born Oct. 28, 1912, in Elkins, W.Va. On Aug. 11, 1939, she married Francis Yetman, who died July 5, 1956.

Ruth moved to Franklin in 1964 from New York City. She was employed by the Keith Clark Company in Sidney for 13 years. She retired in 1977.

She is survived by a son, Gerald C. Yetman of North Bergen, N.J.; a daughter, Marsha E. Yetman of Oneonta; her extended family, Charles Rodriguez of North Bergen, N.J., and Marsha Stock of Oneonta; and a special friend, Barbara Cronk of Franklin. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at 8 p.m. in the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Evelyn Lintern officiating.

Friends are invited to call Monday at the funeral home from 7 p.m. until service time.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin Emergency Squad or the Delaware Valley Humane Society, 101 E. Main St., Sidney, N.Y. 13838.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

Audrey Saxton
ONEONTA — Audrey W. Saxton, 62, of Oneonta, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. She had donated her body to Albany Medical College.

Audrey was born May 10, 1936, the daughter of Kenneth and Velma (Schutt) Wright of Westford.

Ms. Saxton lived in Ocala, Fla., for a number of years.

Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Stewart and Joanne Wright of Mifflintown, Pa.; her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Ed Gross Jr. of Wells Bridge; two grandchildren, Jason and Jessica Gross also of Wells Bridge; and many uncles, aunts, cousins; three nephews; and her ex-mother-in-law, Iva Saxton of Cooperstown.

Also surviving are many very special and caring friends without whose help and love her life would have been a lot different and more difficult. Her daughter would like to thank each and every one for all their support and love.

A memorial service in her honor will be held at 2 p.m., Jan. 16, by the Rev. William Highfield at Academy Arms (Audrey's apartment house) in the meeting room.

Msgr. John J. Powers
PALO ALTO,  Calif. — Msgr. John J. Powers, a native of Oneonta, and most recently of Palo Alto,  Calif. died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, in Palo Alto,  Calif.

He was born Aug. 27, 1911, in Oneonta, the son of John J. and Ellen (Lynch) Powers.

After graduation from Oneonta High School, he entered the seminary at Niagara University, and was ordained a priest on June 11, 1938. Following his ordination, he served as an assistant at St. Helen's in Schenectady before entering the United States Army as a chaplain in 1941. He was assigned to the paratroopers. After his discharge in 1946, he became a chaplain at veterans' hospitals before retiring in California.

On the occasion of the golden jubilee of his ordination, Msgr. Powers stated, "no person is worthy of being a priest. I am glad to the bottom of my heart that God somehow picked me."

Survivors include cousins.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, with the Most Rev. Howard J. Hubbard, Bishop of Albany, officiating.

Burial will be in the spring in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Doris J. Baldwin
OTEGO — Mrs. Doris J. Baldwin, 74, of Otego died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born Feb. 1, 1924, in the town of Butternuts, the daughter of Frank and Sarah (Wright) Polley.

Doris married Charles Baldwin on July 27, 1941, in Unadilla. Mr. Baldwin died Jan. 8, 1994.

Doris was a homemaker in her own home. A lifelong area resident, she had resided on the Pony Farm Road in Oneonta for many years. Later the Baldwins moved to Otego on the Mill Creek Road. Dors lived there until moving to the Gardenview Manor Home for Adults, where she has lived for the past three years.

Doris is survived by four sons and daughter-in-laws, Ronald Baldwin of Columbia, S.C., Randy and Barbara Baldwin of West Davenport, Stephen and Jody Baldwin of Sidney Center and Shawn and Pam Baldwin of Oneonta; two daughters and a son-in-law, Rita and Amos Bates of Oneonta and Cheryl Ostrander of Bainbridge; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Dorothy Polley of Oneonta and Robert and Kathy Polley of Oneonta; two sisters, Marion Lobdell of Otego and Dorothy Robson of Oneonta; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Alan C. Hatch, pastor of the Otego Baptist Church, Otego, officiating.

Mrs. Baldwin will be placed in the Bookhout Funeral Home private vault to await spring interment in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta, on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, from 7 to 9 p.m. when the family will be present at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Mary E. Deyo
GRAND GORGE — Mary E. Deyo, 88, of Becker Road, Grand Gorge died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

Mary was born May 23, 1910, in Roxbury, the daughter of John and Hannah (Chase) Larkins. She was married to Otis Deyo on Oct. 10, 1931, in Grand Gorge. Otis died April 18, 1985.

Mary lived in the Grand Gorge area most of her life. She worked at Greendell Packing Co. in Prattsville for 21 years and retired in 1975.

She is survived by a daughter, Faye E. Deyo; and a son, Ronald Deyo, both of Grand Gorge; grandsons, David and Duane Furgerson, both of Grand Gorge and Donald Furgerson of Albany. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Hall Funeral Home in Grand Gorge, with the Rev. Carl Orlando of Harpersfield officiating. The burial will be in the spring at the Fairview Cemetery at Grand Gorge.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, Grand Gorge, this morning prior to the funeral service.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford-Grand Gorge.

Richard Jacob Dutcher
MILFORD — Richard Jacob Dutcher, 63, of Milford passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at the M.I. Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

Mr. Dutcher was born in Milford, the son of John C. and Agnes L. (Ernst) Dutcher.

He attended Milford Central School, graduating with the Class of 1953. Richard was a self-employed carpenter for many years.

On April 14, 1967, he married Rosa Alcott and the couple settled in Milford.

Richard served in the Air Force, most notably in England, with the Air Police from January 1955 to July of 1959, and continued service with the Reserves from 1959 to 1963.

He was a member of the V.F.W., as well as the Milford and Cooperstown American Legion for 25 consecutive years, most recently, of Post 579, Cooperstown.

Mr. Dutcher was devoted to his family, particularly his grandchildren, and enjoyed gardening.

Mr. Dutcher is survived by his wife, Rosa of Milford; and one son, Richard W. of North Carolina. He leaves three grandchildren, Jessica Marie Dutcher, 10 years old, Kylie Rose Dutcher, 9 years old, and Cody Jacob Dutcher, 5 years old, all of North Carolina. He had four brothers, Roderick C. and Erwina T. Dutcher of Otego, Jim and Gwen Dutcher of Milford, John and Joann Dutcher of Binghamton (both deceased) and William Dutcher (deceased). He had two sisters, Judy and Ralph Westfall of Columbia, Mo., and Louise Dutcher of Milford; as well as several nieces and nephews; and a stepson, William Pomeroy of Tucsan, Ariz.

Mr. Dutcher was predeceased by a former wife, Elizabeth Gough of England.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Milford, with Fr. John R. Roos of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake, Cooperstown, presiding. The family will greet friends at 10 a.m., one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard's memory to the Milford Emergency Squad or to the Milford Fire Department.

Funeral services are under the direction of the Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Lee Gardner
ROXBURY — Lee Gardner, 70, of Roxbury died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at Albany Medical Center, Albany.

She was born Jan. 2, 1929, in Baltimore, the daughter of Harry Albert Zears and Loretta Elizabeth Mechau.

She married Dale Gardner on Sept. 9, 1950, in Catonsville, Md.

She was an office manager for many years at Gardner & Buhl, CPA offices.

She was a member of the Roxbury Fire Department, where she was awarded the Fireman of the Year honor.

She was a longtime volunteer for the Girl Scouts and served on the Indian Hills Girl Scout Council.

She worked on many projects for the Delaware County Youth Board and taught Sunday School at the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church in Roxbury. She was a Cub Scout leader and active for many years with the PTA of the Roxbury Central School.

The Thanks Badge was presented to Lee from the Girl Scouts for her many years of service.

Lee is survived by her husband, Dale E. Gardner of Roxbury; one son, Christopher E. Gardner and fiancee, Kimberlee Forney of Yardley, Pa.; one daughter, Page C. Gardner and fiance, Steven M. Gesualdo of Clearwater, Fla.

A service to celebrate the life of Lee Gardner will be conducted 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church, Roxbury, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra and the Rev. Robert E. Clark officiating.

Following cremation, entombment will take place at the Church of the Messiah, Glen Falls.

Friends will be received by the family at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury tonight from 7 to 9. Members of the Roxbury Fire Department will give their respects at 7 p.m.

Contributions in memory of Lee Gardner may be made to the Roxbury Ambulance Fund or the Girl Scouts Indian Hills Council Inc., P.O. Box 2145, Binghamton, N.Y. 13902-2145.

Funeral arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
