Floyd C. Hamm Sr.
FRANKLIN — Mr. Floyd C. Hamm Sr., 53, of R.D.1, Franklin died Saturday evening, Jan. 9, 1999, in the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital Emergency Room.

He was born on Jan. 7, 1946, in Oneonta, the son of Francis and Alice (Storey) Hamm. Floyd married the former Jean Banks on June 26, 1964, in Oneonta. She died April 27, 1994.

A lifelong area resident of Delaware County, Floyd had been a mechanic for Country Club Chevrolet for 11 years, prior to his retirement due to health reasons.

He enjoyed the outdoors, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and four-wheeling as a pastime.

Floyd was a loving father and grandfather to all who knew him.

Survived by his devoted son and daughter, Floyd C. Hamm Jr. and his finace, Denise Vaughan of Wells Bridge, Stephanie (Hamm) Huber and her fiance, Tim Whitehead of Otego; his grandson, his pride and joy, Dakota Huber; one brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Bonnie Hamm of East Meredith; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonnie and Ken Murwin of Harpursfield and Anna and Joe  Jackson of Davenport. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Patti Hoxie and Rod Mowers.

There will be no funeral services, however, the Hamm family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Wells Bridge First Responders or the Unadilla Emergency Squad in memory of Floyd C. Hamm Sr.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes of Oneonta and Otego.

Louise D. Ingoldsby
ONEONTA — Louise D. Ingoldsby, 90, of Oneonta died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 6, 1908, in Chaseville, which is a small locality between Maryland and Schenevus. Louise was the daughter of Clint and Nettie Bell (Ryder) Doolittle.

Louise attended and graduated from Schenevus High School and started working for the Otsego and Delaware Telephone Company in Schenevus. In 1931, after Schenevus went with the dial phone, she was transferred to Oneonta in the Traffic Department of the New York Telephone Company. She became a service assistant until she retired after 42 years of employment.

She was married in 1950 to Harold Ingoldsby, and they bought a home in the East End across from Brooks House of Bar-B-Q's.

She was a member of New York Telephone Pioneers and a member of Emmons United Methodist Church.

Her special loves in life were flowers, music, birds and she enjoyed her work with young people.

She is survived by her nephew and his wife, Clint and Dawn Doolittle; a grandnephew, Colin Doolittle; and grandnieces, Mercedes and Zora Doolittle, all of Stowe, Ohio.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harold A. Ingoldsby and two brothers, Kenneth and Lewis Doolittle.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta. Her pastor, the Rev. Rodney E. Johnson, pastor of the Emmons United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the spring at the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery, Hartwick Seminary.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Jane E. Mac Farran
RAMSEY, N.J. — Jane E. Mac Farran (nee Banta) of Ramsey, N.J. died on Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999.

She was the wife of the late Robert E. Mac Farran, who died in 1996. She grew up in Cherry Valley; they had many cousins and friends in the area.

She is survived by her son Robert H. (Mickey) Mac Farran of Mahwah, N.J.; and daughter, Jean Hildebrandt of Wyckoff, N.J.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Van Emburgh-Sneider Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave., Ramsey, N.J.

Ethel M. McGuinness
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Ethel Mills McGuinness, 90, of Scottsdale, Ariz. died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, in Scottsdale, Ariz. of complications following a stroke.

Ethel was born in Brooklyn, on Oct. 18, 1908, the second of three daughters of Edwin John and Elizabeth (Davis) Mills.

She graduted from Elmira College in 1929, and later received a master's degree in library science from the State University College at Geneseo.

A longtime resident of Cedar Street in Oneonta, Ethel's career as an educator spanned several decades. She taught at schools in Treadwell, Otego, Sidney and Laurens. Her last position was as a school librarian with the Otsego County Board of Cooperative Educational Services. She retired in 1970.

Ethel was a member of the Oneonta chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Unitarian Universalist Society of Oneonta, and the New York State and Otsego County Retired Teachers' Associations.

Ethel was married to Robert D. McGuinness on Aug. 24, 1940, in Oneonta. Mr. McGuinness died in 1981.

Ethel is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Raymond Gorshe of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and a sister-in-law, Ruth McMoon of Oneonta.

Memorial donations may be made to the Unitarian Universalist Society of Oneonta, 12 Ford Ave., Oneonta.

Martha A. Smith
MALVERN, Pa. — Mrs. E. Dayton (Martha A.) Smith, 94, of Malvern, Pa., formerly of Laurens and Oneonta died Friday morning, Jan. 8, 1999.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, tonight from 7 to 9 when the family will be present at the funeral home.

Funeral and committal services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at the funeral home.

John Stoehrer
ONEONTA — John Stoehrer, 89, of Oneonta died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born Jan. 1, 1910, in East Wiliamsburg, Queens, the son of Fred and Lena (Blaser) Stoehrer. He married Gertrude Stoehrer on July 8, 1932. She died on April 3, 1998.

A commercial artist, John studied at the National Academy of Design, Art Students' League, and in the studios of Sol Wilson, James LeChay, and Philip Reisman.

He was elected to the Silvermine Guild of Artists and the Vectors, a contemporary group of painters and sculptors in New York City. He also received reviews in several publications, including The New York Times, the New York Tribune, and several arts magazines.

During his career as an art director for several leading advertising agencies, he contributed to the design of the Maxwell House coffee and the Sinclair Oil ads. He retired in 1975, from Hodes-Daniel of New York City.

Mr. Stoehrer is survived by a daughter, Jane Mininberg of Rockville, Md.; and a grandson, David Gould of Virginia. He is also survived by several cousins, including Bernice Colban of Davenport Center.

He was predeceased by a son, Jerry Stoehrer.

There will be no calling hours. A committal service will be in the spring in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Mary Ann Nichols
ONEONTA — Mary Ann Nichols, 51, of Oneonta, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born Jan. 31, 1947, in Oneonta, the daughter of Maurice S. and Loretta (Kelly) Nichols Sr.

Mary Ann was a graduate of St. Mary's and the Oneonta High School. Prior to her illness, she was a prep cook at the Farmhouse Restaurant. For a period of time, she worked at the State University College at Oneonta and Custom Electronics.

She is survived by her father, Maurice S. Nichols Sr. of Oneonta; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Richard VanHoesen of Davenport; a brother, Maurice S. Nichols Jr. of Oneonta; her nieces and nephews, Peggy and Russell Hait of  Jefferson, Lorraine VanHoesen of Otego, Jim VanHoesen of Stamford, David VanHoesen of Hobart, Millie VanHoesen of Stamford, Marie and Brandon Epperson of Glendale, Ariz., Michael and Matthew Nichols of Phoenix, Ariz., and Lisa and Fred Tormey of Peoria, Ariz.

She is also survived by several great-nieces and nephews, and one great-great-nephew, along with several cousins and special friends, Janet and Gary Woodrow, and Ginny Bliss.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in the spring in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Friends may call Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Pearl J. Weaver
STAMFORD — Pearl J. Weaver, 91, of Back Hobart Road, Stamford, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at Robinson Terrace in Stamford.

She was born May 4, 1907, in  Jefferson, the daughter of Floyd and Mary Hope (Horton) Ryder. She married Garfield "Chet" Weaver on Sept. 4, 1940, in  Jefferson. Chet died April 14, 1998.

Pearl had lived in the  Jefferson-Stamford area most of her life. She graduated from the  Jefferson High School in 1923, and the Oneonta Normal School with a degree in elementary education. Pearl started her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Clapper Hollow,  Jefferson. She continued teaching primarily third grade for 35 years, retiring from the Stamford Central School in 1969.

Pearl was a member of the Stamford United Methodist Church and the New York State Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Vance and Wilma Ryder of Oneco, Fla.; a son-in-law, Leonard Mirtallo of Stamford; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Clapper of Palisades Park, N.J.; grandchildren, John, Jayne, Jim and Jay Mirtallo, Jeanne Clapper Ahad and Joanne Clapper; several great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her own children, her daughter, Betty Louise Clapper Mirtallo, and her son, Lloyd John Clapper; two brothers, Harry and Ted Ryder; and a sister, Grace Lamp.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford, with the Rev. Waylen Bray, pastor of the Stamford Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will take place in the Stamford Cemetery, Stamford.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday afternoon and evening. The family will be in attendance after 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Pearl's memory to the R.A. Robinson Emergency Squad, Main Street, Stamford, N.Y. 12167.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Owen P. Brady Jr.
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Owen P. Brady Jr., 85, of Lake Street, died on Monday evening, Jan. 11, 1999, in Little Falls Hospital.

He was born on Jan. 9, 1914, in Richfield Springs, a son of the late Owen P. Jr. and Ella Naughton Brady.

A lifelong area resident, he was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School and went on to graduate from Saint Boneventure University, Olean.

On Oct. 26, 1935, he married Helen Ryan in Saint Francis of Assisi Church in New York City.

An honorably discharged United States Army veteran, he served our country in World War II. For 25 years he was a claims supervisor for the Social Security Administration in Utica and Herkimer, retiring in 1975. He had the distinction of receiving a certificate from President Richard M. Nixon for his work with migrants.

He was the oldest living member of the Ryersons Golf Club, an exempt Richfield Springs fireman and a member of the Richfield Springs V.F.W. Post. He was a member of Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, where he played the organ, since he was 15 years old and retiring in 1980.

Surviving besides his loving wife of 63 years, Helen, are two sons, Michael E. Brady of Carlsbad,  Calif., and O. Patrick and his wife, Hope Brady, of Loudenville; two daughters, Carol and her husband, John "Pete" Clark, of Brewster, Mass., and Kathleen Brady Steckloff of Jacksoville, Fla.; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Brady of Syracuse; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur and James Brady.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 5 West James St., Richfield Springs.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Joseph's Church on Friday at 10 a.m.

Mr. Brady will be placed in the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home private receiving vault to await burial in Saint Joseph's Cemetery later this spring.

Julia V. Lewis
GILBOA — Julia "Judy" V. Lewis, 79, of Route 30, Gilboa, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at her residence.

She was born April 2, 1919, in Howes Cave, the daughter of Deforest and Bessie (Maxwell) Bailey. She married Winston "Bill" Lewis on May 2, 1958, in Grand Gorge. Bill died Jan. 6, 1993.

Judy had been a Schoharie County resident all of her life. For a number of years Judy was employed at Newberry's Department Store in Cobleskill and Greendell Packing Co. in Prattsville. She was an active member of the Gilboa United Methodist Church.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and George Tiemann of Oneonta; grandchildren, Jessica and Joseph Tiemann of Oneonta; two nieces and one nephew, Mary Barbic of Esperance, Irene Bailey of Cobleskill, and Harold DeVoe of Virginia; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was predeceased by sisters, Mary, Florence and Mabel; and a brother, Harold.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 West Main St., Stamford, with the Rev. Neil Irwin, pastor of the North Blenheim United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be held in the spring at the Fairview Cemetery in Grand Gorge.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday afternoon and evening. The family will be in attendance between 7 and 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Julia's memory to the Gilboa United Methodist Church, care of Sharon Snyder, Gilboa Road, Gilboa, N.Y. 12076.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.
