Mary Jane Beadling
PORTLANDVILLE — Mary Jane Beadling, 68, of Portlandville, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at her residence.

She was born Nov. 24, 1930, in Madawaska, Maine, the daughter of Maxime and Jeanne (Levesque) Cormier. She married Orion J. Beadling on June 26, 1949, in Summit.

Mary Jane had been a local resident since 1966, when she and her husband moved to the Maryland (Portlandville) area from Summit. Currently, she was the business manager for Orion Blades Manufacturing, a company she and her husband operated in Maryland.

She graduated magna cum laude in 1996, from the State University College at Oneonta with a degree in French.

She was a member of Phi Sigma Iota, International Foreign Language Honor Society, and Amicron Delta Kappa, National Leadership Honor Society. She was also a member of the SUCO French Club. In 1994, Mary Jane was named outstanding student of the year by the Region Three Continuing Education Association of New York.

She is survived by her husband, Orion Justin Beadling of Portlandville; her children, Diana C. MacKenzie of Maine, Mary L. Peterson of Hamden, Conn., Joyce E. Casanave of Pinckney, Mich., and Orion M. Beadling of Atlanta, Ga.; her grandchildren, Justin and Mary Casanave, Lorraine Peterson, Billy, Diana and Max MacKenzie; her mother-in-law, Olive V. Beadling of Fulton; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A sister, Doris Faye Siemering, predeceased her.

A service to celebrate the life of Mary Jane Beadling will be held on Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at 2 p.m. in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, with the Rev. John R. Roos, pastor of St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church, Cooperstown, officiating.

There will be no calling hours, and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Elsie M. Brownell
ONEONTA — Mrs. Elsie M. Brownell, 104, of Oneonta, died Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 13, 1999, at the Otsego County Infirmary, Middlefield.

She was born Nov. 10, 1894, in the town of  Jefferson, the daughter of John G. and Harriet (Van Buren) McIntyre.

Elsie married Fred B. Brownell in 1914. They divorced in 1942.

A homemaker in her own home, she had worked in her younger years cleaning homes for affluent families in the Oneonta area. As a child and in her growing-up years, she had lived on the family farm in the town of  Jefferson. She attended school at a one-room schoolhouse called Fuller District No. 4 for eight years.

She was the middle child, having had a brother and a sister. A lifelong area resident, Elsie was one of the first tenants of Nader Towers, Oneonta, in 1973. While living there she enjoyed volunteer work in the kitchen. In 1993, Elsie moved to the Otsego County Infirmary, Middlefield, where she has since lived prior to her death.

Elsie is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Frank (Dorothy) Conigliaro of Oneonta; a granddaughter, Mrs. Robert (Josephine) Gallup of Oneonta; and a great-grandson, Robert Gallup Jr. of Delhi. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her brother, Everett McIntyre, who died in 1970, and her sister, Lois Mead, who died in 1986.

At Elsie Brownell's requests, there will be no funeral service or calling hours.

Her daughter, Dorothy Conigliaro, would like to thank and appreciates all the love and care given to her mother by the staff of the Otsego County Infirmary over the past several years.

Mrs. Brownell will be placed in the Bookhout Funeral Home private vault to await burial in the spring in Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes of Oneonta and Otego.

John Russell Elliott
WEST LAURENS — John Russell Elliott, 50, of Crawford Road, West Laurens, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at Glens Falls Hospital.

He was born Oct. 30, 1948, in Oneonta, the son of Alma (Naylor) Elliott and Francis Elliott.

He was married to Patricia Carey on Jan. 22, 1977, in Morris.

John graduated from Darrow School in 1967, and attended Bryant College. In 1968, he joined the H.W. Naylor Co., a manufacturer of veterinary pharmaceuticals and devices founded by his grandfather, Dr. Howard Naylor. John was the executive vice president and director of marketing for the Naylor Co. John served on the Board of Directors of Higbee Gaskets and Sealing Products Inc. of Syracuse, and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Hillington Cemetery Association. He also served for many years as a trustee and treasurer of Project 85 in Oneonta.

John was an avid golfer and a member of the Oneonta Golf and Country Club and the Oneonta Tennis Club.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia of West Laurens; a son, Brian of Charlotte, N.C.; his mother, Alma Elliott of Morris; and a brother, Howard Elliott of Morris; and also several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at 2 p.m. at the Zion Episcopal Church in Morris, with the Rev. John Scott III officiating.

There will be no calling hours and burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to the Morris Fire Department or Morris Emergency Squad in his memory.

Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Romayn F. Heyler
WESTFORD — Romayn Frederick Heyler, 78, of Westford, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at his residence.

He was the husband of Dorothy Borden Heyler, whom he married Aug. 13, 1943.

He was born April 30, 1920, in Nauvoo, Pa., the son of the late Elmer and Alta Young Heyler.

Romayn was a graduate and co-valedictorian of Liberty High School class of 1938. He received a bachelor's in Music Education from Mansfield University in 1942, and a master's in Music Education from Temple University in 1947. He was a music teacher at Lewes High School in Lewes, Del. from 1948-1952. He then became manager of Peoples Bank and Trust Co. in Wilmington, Del., 1952-69. He was vice president of Deak National Bank in Fleischmanns, 1969-1981. He then became vice president of Cherry Valley Bank in Cherry Valley in 1981 and retired in 1985.

Romayn was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Nauvoo, Pa. He was a member of the American Guild of Organists and a member of the American Banking Association. He was also a member of Phi Mu Alpha National Music Honor Fraternity.

He was a Navy pilot during World War II and was a recipient of the Navy Cross and Distinguished Flying Cross, in addition to three Air Medals.

Surviving other than his wife, Dorothy, are son and daughter-in-law, Frederick and Lynn Heiler of Saddle River, N.J.; daughters and son-in-law, Dorayne Heyler of Adelphi, Md. and Annette and Christopher Boprey of Ravena; brothers and sisters-in-law, Earl and Freda Heyler of Nauvoo, Pa., Edward and Dorna Heyler of Westfield, Pa. and Frederick and Joann Heyler of Nauvoo, Pa.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and the Rev. James Reed of Watsontown, Pa. and Margaret and Robert Raker of Liberty, Pa.; five grandchildren, Joshua Osborne, Tara Osborne, Dorayne Boprey, Derek Boprey and Timothy Heiler.

Friends may call at St. Paul's United Methodist Church at Nauvoo, Pa. on Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, from 1 to 2 p.m. Funeral to follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Joy Bement officiating. Burial in Salem-St. Paul Cemetery.

If desired, memorials may be sent to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 or a Hospice agency of your choice.

Arrangements are by Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, 139 Main St., Wellsboro, Pa.

Marion R. Kinch
WESTFORD — Marion R. Kinch, 91, of Westford, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at her home suddenly.

She was born July 20, 1907, in Westford, the daughter of Benjamin and Belle (Holmes) Roseboom.

She married Charles Everett Kinch on June 30, 1927, in Pleasant Brook. He passed away Feb. 8, 1967, in Lakeland, Fla.

Mrs. Kinch was a graduate of Oneonta Normal School. She was a school teacher, having taught in Amsterdam, Westford, Oneonta and Schenevus school districts. She retired in 1963. She also served for many years as a volunteer aid at Schenevus Central School.

Mrs. Kinch was a member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Westford, NSDAR, Iroquois Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 138, the Westford Historical Society and of the Westford Community Association.

She is survived by a son, Ronald Kinch and his wife, Helen of Schenevus; a daughter, Cynthia Palmer and her husband, Jay, of Delanson; five grandchildren, Cherle Powers and her husband, Tim, of Worcester, Connie Kinch of Binghamton, Christie Dickinson and her husband, Ken, of Albany, Lee Palmer and his wife, Kimberly, of Greenville, S.C. and Lynn Palmer of Delanson; three great-grandchildren, Leita M., Nathan K. and Riley J. Powers of Worcester; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a son, Robert; two brothers, Horace and Howard Roseboom; and a sister, Georgia Williams.

A funeral service will be held in the spring and burial will follow at the Westford Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in memory of Mrs. Kinch to the Schenevus Central School, Awards Fund, 100 Main St., Schenevus, N.Y. 12155; the Westford First Responders, P.O. Box 187, Westford; or the Westford Fire Department, P.O. Box 24, Westford, N.Y. 13488.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

Harriet VanDusen
GRAND GORGE — Harriet VanDusen, 92, of Grand Gorge, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at the Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville, where she had lived for the past three years.

She was born Oct. 30, 1906, in Arena, the daughter of Uriah Haynes and Loami Monington.

She married Merton G. VanDusen on May 9, 1925, in West Point. He died Aug. 27, 1982.

She was a well-loved nanny for several area families. She lived in Grand Gorge since 1933.

Harriet is survived by two sons, David VanDusen of Salt Spring, Fla. and Preston A. VanDusen of Grand Gorge; two grandsons; and one sister, Viola Miller of Sargent,  Texas.

Private funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, with the Rev. S. Hayden Walsh officiating.

Committal services will be held in the spring at Harpersfield Cemetery, Harpersfield.

Contributions may be made in memory of Harriet VanDusen to the Activities Fund of Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville.

Funeral arrangements are by Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Louis V. Jerson
UTICA — Louis V. Jerson, 86, of the Heritage Home, formerly of Cooperstown and Richfield Springs, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at Faxton Hospital, Utica.

He was born July 28, 1912, in Utica, a son of Casimer and Jennie Jerzykiewicz. Lou attended Wetmore School until he started his adult career as a Utica Western Union messenger at the age of 14. By the age of 19, he had become the manager of the Richfield Springs A&P, eventually rising to company troubleshooter. He and his brother Stanley then opened Pic-N-Pay in Richfield Springs. Later, he opened another Pic-N-Pay in Cooperstown, where he resided for many years.

He was a member of the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department and the Richfield Springs Rotary. In his retirement he was a wonderful auctioneer and loved calling for charitable organizations. Lou was a kind, loving person who was known for his help and thoughtfulness. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dearborn S. Reeves, in 1973 and his second wife, Natalie H. Johnson, in 1977.

A son, Robert, and daughter-in-law, Elisabeth, of New Hartford; a granddaughter, Melissa Cabocel; a grandson, Michael; and a great-grandson, Sinclair Cabocel, survive him. He also leaves behind a sister, Helen Kroll, and a brother, Stanley Jersen, both of Utica; nieces and nephews, Ronald Kroll, Mrs. Sheila Cornacchia, John and Lana Jersen and Marjorie and Robert Theising.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John, and a sister, Valerie.

Calling hours will be on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 5 West James St., Richfield Springs. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Richfield Springs Volunteer Fire Department or the Richfield Springs Rotary Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Lou's family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care he received from the staff at the Heritage Home and Faxton Hospital.

Donald C. Post
HOBART — Donald C. Post, 85, of Hobart. Don loved life, people and nature. He was born on the family homestead, Dec. 6, 1913, and lived there until his death Jan. 14, 1999.

He was the son of Clarence J. and Bertha S. (Sturgess) Post. On April 14, 1939, in Hobart he married Helen Hamilton, who survives.

Mr. Post was a graduate of Hobart High School and Delhi Tech. He was a member of the Township United Methodist Church, Dairyman's League, the Farm Bureau, American Tree Farmer organization and served as a fire commissioner for the Hobart Fire Department for many years.

Mr. Post began his career as a sawyer working for the Earl Carson Family Sawmill in Hobart, where he also worked as a carpenter, skills he continued into his own sawmill business. This sawmill is still in active operation today. He also worked in the trucking industry for Frank Sturgess.

In 1946, he purchased the family farm from his father and had been an active farmer ever since. As a 4-H member in his teens, Don showed cattle and continued this talent well into his 80s.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Richard Brink of Barton; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Carolyn Post of Hobart; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, John Post of Florida; and two sisters, Elisabeth Post of Cooperstown and Edith Slack of Vermont.

He was predeceased by one granddaughter and one brother, Everett Post.

Funeral services will take place Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Township United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bert More, Hobart Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Burial will take place in the spring at the Township Cemetery.

Friends may call at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, Sunday evening, Jan. 17 from 7-9 p.m.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Township United Methodist Church or to the Hobart Fire Department.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Teckla Cooper
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Teckla (Dibble) Cooper, 84, of 3 River St., died on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

She was born on Dec. 10, 1914, in Richfield Springs, a daughter of the late Floyd and Matilda (Feldman) Dibble. She was named Teckla Matilda Barbara Dibble.

She was a benefactor to all forms of birds and animals, providing food, love and shelter to those in need. Her husband, Gradyon A. Cooper, whom she married in 1951, predecesed her in October 1990. Together, they provided friendship, guidance and looked over their extended family of neighborhood kids, whom the Coopers became referred to as "Mom and Dad."

Mrs. Cooper worked at area nursing homes and provided in-home care. A good listener, she gave advice when asked, and consoled those in need. In today's world she was one in a million. She was a great neighbor and a silent provider to many.

She is survived by her brother, Emil (Bud) Dibble of Richfield Springs; a nephew, Chris Cooper, and his wife, Kathy, and their children, Graydon and Hazel of Alna, Mass.; and two cousins.

Calling hours will be on Monday from 2-4 p.m. in the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 5 West James St., Richfield Springs. Funeral service will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. John Dixon Bartle, rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, officiating.

Mrs. Cooper will be placed in the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home private receiving vault to await burial in Lakeview Cemetery later this spring.

Dot Edge
GREENVILLE, S.C. — Dorothy Louise Tidwell Edge, 70, of 121 Eisenhower Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999.

Born in Columbia, S.C., she was a daughter of the late James Edwin and Annie Louise Tidwell.

She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband, Burton J. Edge, of the home; three daughters, Hazel Ann Blanken of Bulls Gap, Tenn., Barbara "Bobbie" Dale Barton of New Lisbon and Jeanne Marie Hendrick of Greenville; three sons, Jimmy Edge of Taylors, S.C., Alex Edge of Easley, S.C., and Michael Edge of Powdersville, S.C.; and nine grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Roy F. Edge.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mackey Mortuary, Century Drive, with the Rev. T. Spencer LeGrand officiating. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum at Graceland East Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.
