Loretta E. Stafford
MOUNT UPTON — Loretta E. Stafford, 70, of Mount Upton passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at The Hospital, Sidney.

She was born July 30, 1928, to the late Edward and Pansy Thompson Saunders in Clayville.

Loretta married Clyde Stafford on Sept. 15, 1945, in McClure. Clyde predeceased her on May 28, 1989.

She was employed by E.C.D. of Bendix, Sidney for 37 years.

Loretta was a member of the machinist union Local No. 1523, Sidney.

She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, George and Doreen "Polly" Stafford of Masonville, Harold Stafford of Scott Center, Pa. and Frederick Stafford of Mount Upton; three brothers, Edwin Saunders of Gulf Summit, Richard of Gulf Summit and Clifford Saunders of Afton; two sisters, Thelma Kelsey of Deposit and Helen Grannis of Vestal; two grandchildren, Derek Stafford of Sidney and Laura Stafford of Syracuse; two stepgrandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a friend and companion, Richard Stanley of Sidney.

She was also predeceased by three brothers.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at 1 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. J. Alvin Mosher of the McGrawville Baptist Church, McGraw, officiating. Friends may call at their convenience on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at the funeral home. The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Upton in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Upton Fire Department.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.

Doris E. Trenkner
NORWICH — Doris E. Trenkner, 88, of Norwich, passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.

She was born Sept. 7, 1910, to the late Daniel W. and Elizabeth Turner Wilcox in Sommerville, Mass.

She married Stanley Scutt in March of 1940, in St. Petersburg, Fla. He predeceased her in 1961. Doris then married Frank Trenkner in July 1961, in Sidney. He predeceased her 1982.

She was a member of the Sidney, Ouleout and Masonville Order of the Eastern Star. Doris was also a member of the First Baptist Church, Norwich.

Doris is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Mary Scutt of Otego; her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Bernard Wojcik of Otego; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at 8 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Andy, of the First Baptist Church, Norwich, officiating. There will be a service by the Order of the Eastern Star directly after the funeral service. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in McClure Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Norwich.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.

Helen A. VanWyk
GILBOA — Helen A. VanWyk, 75, of Gilboa, passed away Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born Dec. 15, 1923, in Passaic, N.J., the daughter of Charles F. and Ella (Potts) Zurheide.

She married Edwin R. VanWyk on Dec. 29, 1945. They moved to Gilboa in 1979, from Montvale, N.J.

Mrs. VanWyk was an office worker employed by W.T. Grant Inc. in New Jersey. Her memberships here included Brimstone United Methodist Church,  Jefferson Senor Citizens, and Romona Grange No. 1297,  Jefferson.

She is survived by her husband, Edwin, in Gilboa; a son, Dennis J. VanWyk of Marlboro, N.J.; and a daughter, Bonnie Leigh VanWyk of Mahwah, N.J.; a grandson, Robert VanWyk of Sayreville, N.J.; and a sister, Ruth Kehr of Delhi.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at 10 a.m. at the  Jefferson United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles Gockel officiating. Burial will take place at George  Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, N.J. later in the day. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home in Hobart.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Brimstone United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 88,  Jefferson, N.Y. 12093.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Peter Engelman Sr.
SEBASTIAN, Fla. — Peter Frank Engelman Sr., 93, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at his Sebastian, Fla., residence after a prolonged illness.

He was born Feb. 22, 1905, in Hungary, and was a resident of Mount Vision, N.Y., as well as a winter resident of Sebastian, Fla.

Mr. Engelman was an executive with the Hearst Publishing Corp., in New York City.

He attended the First Baptist Church of Morris.

Surviving are his wife of 73 years, Bessie; his son and daughter-in-law, Peter F. Jr. and Olive Engelman of Oneonta; one sister, Mary Callahan of Sun City, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

At the family's request there will be no response or visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to VNA Hospice, 1111 36th St., Vero Beach, Fla., 32960 in Mr. Engelman's memory.

Elaine Bagliazo
CRESTLINE,  Calif. — Elaine Mary (Houghtaling) Bagliazo, 70, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, from complications of a stroke in San Bernardino,  Calif. She was formerly of Laurens.

She was born June 7, 1928, in Cobleskill, N.Y. She lived in California for 51 years; 15 years in Crestline,  Calif.

Elaine was a homemaker, she enjoyed life along with arts and crafts.

She is survived by a son, Ciro John Bagliazo of Bonner, Mont.; a daughter, Michele Mary Bagliazo of San Pedro,  Calif.; and a grandson, Justin Eric Bagliazo.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at 11 a.m. at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City,  Calif.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that contributions may be made to the Laurens Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 179, Laurens, N.Y. 13796.

Alice Derock
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Alice L. Derock, 74, of Jacksonville, Fla., and formerly of Sidney, passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at home.

Friends may call on Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, from 3 to 5 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Graveside services will be held at Prospect Hill Cemetery in the spring.

Arrangements are by C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.

George Teachout Sr.
WESTVILLE — Mr. George P. Teachout Sr., 80, of Westville, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 2, 1999, at Little Falls Hospital.

He was born May 11, 1918, in Amsterdam, a son of Oscar C. Teachout Sr. and Isabelle Antis.

Mr. Teachout attended school in Richfield. On June 21, 1939, he married Bertha H. Roseboom.

George was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army from 1944 to 1945, in the European Theater. After his discharge George operated his farm in Westville for many years.

George is remembered by his family and friends for his love of touring the countryside admiring landscaping, old stone walls and fences, and old cemeteries.

He is survived by four daughters, Joan and Robert Schallert of Milford, Carol Cox and George Robinson of Phoenix Mills, Georgina and Robert Brunet of Hudson, Fla., and Janice Richards and Gary Robinson of Mount Vision; a son and daughter-in-law, Christine and George P. Teachout Jr. of Westville; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Arthur and Jeanette Teachout of Camden, Richard and Wanda Teachout of Richfield, Orville Teachout of Florida, and Oscar C. Teachout of Lakeland, Fla.

He was predeceased by his wife, Bertha, in 1996; his sister, Vanetta Domion; and a grandson, Steven Schallert.

Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at 1 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Nancy Kozlowski, pastor of the Milford United Methodist Church, officiating. Calling hours will be Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, when the family will be in attendance.

Mr. Teachout will be placed in the receiving vault at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown until burial at the Westville Cemetery in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions in his name to the Folts Homes Adult Care, 104 North  Washington St., Herkimer, N.Y. 13350.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Kenneth Dorosky
HARPERSFIELD — Kenneth Dorosky, 76, of Harpersfield, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at his home.

He was born May 5, 1922, in South Kortright, the son of Frank and Rose (Siderski) Dorosky.

He married Audrey More in South Kortright, Sept. 2, 1951.

Mr. Dorosky was a dairy farmer on Betty Brook, South Kortright. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church; served as fire commissioner for Kortright Fire Department; was a member of Stamford-Harpersfield Senior Citizens; and was active in the Col. Harper Grange No. 1508. He was an avid sportsman and especially enjoyed bowling and playing cards.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey, at home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rosanne and Richard Sutton and Karen and Gilbert Mattice of Stamford; and three sons, Kevin and Denise Dorosky of South Kortright, Andy Dorosky of Rehoboth Beach, Del., and Brian Dorosky of Middletown; grandchildren, Richard, Rebecca, and Renee Sutton of Stamford and Sarah, Michael and Mathew Dorosky of South Kortright. Three sisters, Frances Eckerson, Grace Oles and Pauline Fowlston of Oneonta; a sister-in-law, Margaret Flaherty of Oneonta; and several nieces and nephews.

A brother, Harry Dorosky, predeceased him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at Sacred Heart Church in Stamford, with Fr. Joseph Cebula officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford. Calling hours will be Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Helen A. VanWyk

Russell A. Roy
SIDNEY — Russell A. Roy, 88, of Sidney, passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at the Skilled Nursing Facility, Sidney.

He was born to the late Euclide and Clementine Guilbault Roy on Dec. 20, 1910, in North Adams, Mass.

Russ married Lillian Brigham in June of 1940, in North Adams, Mass.

He was a supervisor of scheduling at E.C.D. of Bendix, Sidney, until he retired on June 30, 1973.

Russ was a member of the Management Club at Bendix and the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 277, Sidney.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian of Sidney; and several nieces and nephews.

Upon Russ's request services are private.

Graveside services will be held in Evergreen Cemetery in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sidney Emergency Squad and Sidney Fire Department.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.

James W. Franklin
DELANCEY — James W. "Jim" Franklin, 75, of Stoddard Hollow, DeLancey, R.D. 1, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 2, 1999, at Countryside Care Center, Delhi.
He was born Jan 28, 1924, in Hyde Park, Pa., the son of James Truman and Edna (Whitlinger) Franklin.

A World War II Navy veteran, he served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ranger VI.

He married Mary Foutz on Dec. 20, 1947, in Tiffin, Ohio, and in 1951, received his bachelor's of science degree from Heidelberg College.

During his early career, Jim was an editor of the Engineering and Mining Journal for McGraw-Hill Publishers, and later a longtime programmer for International Business Machines, where he created the first word processor. He retired from IBM in 1979, and subsequently pursued a career in nursing, receiving his R.N. from Dutchess Community College. A former Hopewell Junction resident, he did nursing in the Dutchess County area, moving to DeLancey in 1991, where he was summer staff nurse at Camp Nubar in Andes.

Jim was an active member, deacon and trustee of the DeLancey United Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Mary "Molly" Franklin, at home; four children, Linda Franklin of Burkley,  Calif., John Franklin of Kingston, James Franklin of Pepperell, Mass., and Eve Franklin of Hercules,  Calif.; nine grandchildren ; one great-grandson; one brother, Dr. William Franklin of Raleigh, N.C.; one sister, Lucille Fulton of Porter, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Friday, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, and the family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the DeLancey U.P. Church by the Rev. H. Leigh Holder-Bobo, pastor, and private cremation will follow.

Memorial contributions may be made to the DeLancey United Presbyterian Church Restoration Fund.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.
