Robert J. Haggerty
WEST LAURENS — Mr. Robert J. Haggerty, 76, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at home.

He was born April 15, 1922, in Manhattan, the son of James F. and Mabel T. (Kritzler) Haggerty. On Aug. 26, 1944, he married Eileen A. Smith in the Church of St. Paul the Apostle, Yonkers, who survives.

Mr. Haggerty was a 1941 graduate of the Evanders Childs High School, Bronx. He was employed by the city of New York as an inspector in the Highway Department. He was a member of the Pavers and Road Builders District Council, City of New York, and the Tile Setters Local 88.

Mr. Haggerty is survived by his wife, Eileen A. Smith of West Laurens; a son, James Haggerty of West Laurens; two daughters, Sharon Rutulante of New Paltz and Mary-Lee Thorn of West Laurens; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Robert J. Haggerty Jr. in 1993.

Cremation took place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.

A memorial service will be held at the Holy Cross Church, Morris, on Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Dwyer officiating.

Contributions in Mr. Haggerty's memory may be made to the West Laurens Fire Department or the Holy Cross Church in Morris.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Edward S. Doi
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Edward Seizo Doi, 82, of Palmetto, Fla., and formerly of Sidney, passed away at Vencor Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla., on Jan. 29, 1999.

Edward was born June 10, 1916, in Binghamton, the son of Samuel and Sen Shimizo Doi.

He married Glennis Pearson on April 6, 1942, in Sidney. Mrs. Doi passed away Oct. 26, 1997.

Edward graduated in 1934 from Sidney High School. He received an industrial engineering certificate from I.C.S. He was employed for 43 years at Scintilla Manufacturing Company, later called Bendix Corp. He retired in 1978 as a senior methods engineer.

Mr. Doi was predeceased by his sister, Merry, and brothers, Harry and Scott.

He is survived by his sister, Marion Payne of Sidney; son and daughter-in-law, David E. and Carolyn Yenson Doi of Edgewood, Ky.; son and daughter-in-law, E. James and Patti Jo Provenzon of Sidney; son, Douglas P. Doi of Oneonta; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Valentine-Delaney and James of Pismo Beach,  Calif., and Masclat, France, and six grandchildren, Timothy Valentine, Susan A. Doi, Michael and Christopher Doi and Jason and Timothy Doi.

Mr. Doi was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He had a life membership in the Sidney Division of the Bendix Management Club where he was a past secretary. He was past president and secretary of the Scintilla Gun Club. He was a long-time rifle instructor for the Scintilla Gun Club Junior Division shooters, member of the National Rifle Association. As an NRA certified small bone rifle instructor, he was one of the first of a group of safety-hunter instructors for New York. Mr. Doi was a past president of the Empire State Rifle and Pistol League and one of its top shooters.

Mr. Doi was a 32nd degree Mason, having served as master of his Blue Lodge located in Sidney. He also served as master in the Scottish Rite at Oneonta Lodge of Perfection, the Otseningo Council Princes of Jerusalem and the chapter of Rose Croix. In the York Rite, he served as high priest of the Unadilla Chapter of Royal Arch Masons. He was awarded the Scottish Rite Meritorious Service Award. He also received the distinguished Dedicated Service Award from the Grand Lodge of the State of New York.

Mr. Doi was a member of the Dad's of the VFW. He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sidney, where he served as a past vestryman.

Mr. Doi was an avid golfer and past member of the Sidney Country Club. He had the first family membership with the Afton Golf Course.

Eddie Doi was dearly loved by his family, grandchildren and friends. There were no services. Griffith-Cline Funeral Home in Bradenton, Fla., was in charge of the arrangements.

A private memorial gathering will be held this summer in Sidney by the family for both Eddie and Glennis.

Memorial contributions may be made in Edward's memory to the charity or organization of one's choice.

Margaret F. Hall
ONEONTA — Margaret F. Hall, 79, of Oneonta died Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born on March, 22, 1919, in Pittsfield, Mass., and graduated from Newburgh Free Academy in Newburgh in 1937. Before coming to Oneonta, she lived in Hyde Park and Carmel.

During World War II, she worked at Stewart Air Force Base in Newburgh, served as a hospital volunteer and was also active in sorority and theatrical groups. She later worked in the Carmel bureau office of the Danbury News-Times, and the George Fisher Middle School Library in Carmel.

In Oneonta, she was a parishioner at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, and was active in AARP and the Young at Heart organization. She was an avid fan of college basketball and a devoted theatergoer. She also loved anything to do with Ireland and cherished her visits there.

She married Robert K. Hall Jr. in Newburgh in 1947. He died in 1988.

She is survived by her son, Ken, (former editor of The Daily Star); daughter-in-law, Sally; and grandchildren, Caitlin, Theodore and Elizabeth, all of Traverse City, Mich.; two sisters, Julia Turner of Newburgh and Kathleen Krumenauer of Hendersonville, N.C.; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Boyce of Pagosa Springs,  Colo., and Mary Hall of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Jack of Jamesburg, N.J. and Ted of Albany.

There will be no calling hours. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in Newburgh on Saturday, Feb. 27, 1999, with burial to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newburgh.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 39 Walnut St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 or to the Orpheus Theatre, 31 Maple St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Local arrangements were made by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Vincent P. Domion
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Vincent P. Domion, 80, of West Lake Road died on Friday evening, Feb. 5, 1999, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was born on March 31, 1918, in Richfield Springs, a son of the late Frank and Anna Ronowski Domion.

Vincent was raised and educated in Richfield Springs.

On Dec. 28, 1935, he married Vanetta Teachout at St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs. They had a blessed union of 48 years until her passing on Jan. 3, 1984.

A dairy farmer and carpenter, he owned and operated his own dairy farms, first in Springfield Center from 1942 to 1967, and from 1968 to 1985, in Richfield Springs. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs.

Surviving him are two sons and their wives, Charles and Alice Domion of Tavares, Fla., and Paul V. and Janet Domion of Richfield Springs; two daughters and their husbands, Celia and Charles Vickerson of Caroga Lake and Vanetta and Donald Fahey of Jordanville; a brother, Leslie and his wife, Gertrude Domion of Herkimer; two sisters, Frances Earing of Maryland and Albena Baldwin of Richfield Springs; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by seven brothers, five sisters, and a grandson, Mark Bramhall, on Nov. 28, 1994.

Funeral services will be held from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 5 West James St., Richfield Springs, on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, with the Rev. Terrance Healy officiating. Mr. Domion will then be placed in the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home private receiving vault to await burial in Springfield Center Cemetery later this spring.

Calling hours will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Richfield Springs Volunteer Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Russell Evans Rose
ONEONTA — Russell Evans Rose, 89, died Sunday morning, Feb. 7, 1999, at the Oneonta Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

Russell was born Oct. 7, 1909, in Gloversville, the son of Charles J. and Amy Ann (Evans) Rose.

Russelll married Coralyn A. Whitney on June 23, 1934, in Bainbridge.

He graduated from Oneonta High School and was a United States Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

He was a salesman for Brady's Shoe Store in Oneonta, until he retired in 1971.

He was one of the oldest members of the First United Methodist Church of Oneonta, having joined in 1926, and he was a former member of i's administrative board. Russell had been a member of the Oneonta Lodge 466 F&AM since 1931, the Oneonta Chapter 277 Royal Arch Masons since 1961 and the Oneonta American Legion Post 259 since 1945. A former member and past president of the Oneonta Lions Club, he belonged to and was a board member of the Otsego County Office for Aging. Russell was also a member of the Senior Citizens Bowling league at Holiday Bowl.

Russell is survived by his wife of more than 64 years, Coralyn W. Rose of Oneonta; a daughter, Donna R. Donnell of Oneonta; and a daughter and son-in-law, Kristin R. and Jeffrey Wright of Woodbury, N.J.; four grandchildren, Kimberly S. Ryan, Heather K. Layton, Aaron R. Jarrett and Shane D. Jarrett; one great-granddaughter, Jillian R. Ryan; six stepgrandchildren, Stacy, Becky, Carey, Jody, Courtney and Kelly Wright; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. William D. Bouton, pastor of his church, officiating. Russell will be placed in the Bookhout private burial vault to await burial in the spring at Greenlawn Cemetery in Bainbridge.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. The Oneonta Lodge 466 F&AM will hold ritualistic services at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Russell's memory to the Oneonta Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Activity Fund or the Memorial Fund of the First United Methodist Church, Oneonta.

Funeal arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Luella G. Conklin
UNADILLA — Luella G. Conklin died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at the Skilled Nursing Facility at The Hospital in Sidney.

She was born April 18, 1925, in Franklin, the daughter of John J. and Lena Mae (Gransbury) McDonald.

In 1942, she married Everett Conklin. He predeceased her in 1964.

She lived in the Unadilla area for most of her life and was a former employee of Keith Clark Inc. She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.

Mrs. Conklin is survived by her son, Alan, and daughter-in-law, Janet, of Hastings; her sisters, Elnora O'Dell of Perth, Charlotte Lambert of Oxford, Joyce Goodrich of Unadilla, Izetta Foree of Aburndale, Fla., and Rodena Morrow of St. Petersburg, Fla.; her brother, James McDonald of Arizona; two grandchildren, Michael Conklin of Marcellus and Kolah Conklin of Cicero; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Fellowship Baptist, Covered Bridge Road, Unadilla, on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Michael Amos officiating. Interment will be later in the spring at Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Joyce Funeral Home Inc., Main Street, Unadilla.

Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church, R.D. No. 2, Box 150 A., Unadilla, N.Y. 13849.

Funeral arrangements are by The Joyce Funeral Home Inc. of Unadilla.

Terence R. Christian
ROCKDALE — Terry Christian, 36, a wonderful father, husband and son, passed away at his home on Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

He was born to Ronald and Ascenith (Stark) Christian on Nov. 1, 1962, in Norwich, where he lived until his family moved to Mount Upton in 1969.

Terry grew up in Mount Upton and graduated from Mount Upton Central School in 1981. He participated in many school activities, including sports and the marching band.

On July 19, 1986, he married Nicole Ostrander, his high school sweetheart and best friend.

Terry worked at the Norwich Shoe Co. and the Victory Markets Warehouse in Norwich. In 1993, he was hired at Egli Machine Co. in Sidney. He was fortunate to work with such a caring and supportive group of people.

Terry was a member of the Central New York MOPAR Association. He had a strong passion for his gold 1973 Dodge Challenger, the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Yankees.

Terry is survived by his parents, Ronald and Ascenith Christian of Mount Upton; his maternal grandmother, Myrtha Stark of Gilbertsville; his wife of 12 years, Nicole Christian; his sons, 11-year-old Joel Terry Christian, 2-year-old Jay Colby Christian and his baby girl Shay Kendall Christian; a brother and his wife, Theodore and Sandra Christian of Mountain Top, Pa.; a sister and her husband, Karen and Michael Rose of Mount Upton; and 10 special nieces and nephews: Michael, Alicia, Craig, Shayne, Cerice, Eden, Kory, Dane,  Taylor and Cole. Also surviving are many very special family members and friends who helped all of us more than words can say.

A service to celebrate Terry's life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at the East Guilford Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Helen Havlik, pastor of the East Guilford Presbyterian Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to "G.M.U. Playground Fund," Gilbertsville-Mount Upton School, 693 state Highway 51, Gilberstville, N.Y. 13776 in memory of Terry Christian.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.

Richard Fullington
FRANKLIN — Richard E. Fullington, 76, of Franklin, died unexpectedly, on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at the Bassett HealthCare center in Cobleskill.

He was born June 7, 1922, in Meridale, the son of Howard and Louise (Thompson) Fullington. He married Frances Oblinski on Jan. 27, 1952, in South Kortright.

A lifelong area resident, Dick served with the United States Army from 1946 to 1947.

For the past 22 years, Dick was a local cattle dealer. Before that, he owned and operated a dairy farm in East Meredith.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Fullington, of Franklin; his children, Donald and Midge Fullington of Stamford and Daniel and Vickie Fullington of Davenport; his grandchildren, Stacy, Heather, Danielle and Daniel Fullington; and a sister, Caroline Harrington of Unadilla. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Florence Oblinski of East Meredith; a sister-in-law, Biancy Fullington of Ashland; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Fullington.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at 11 a.m. in the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Dr. Lyle Linder, pastor of the Franklin United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

The family will not be in attendance for visitation hours. However, friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

Donald W. Schreier
UNADILLA — Donald W. "Tug" Schreier, 71, of Shamrock Trailer Park, Unadilla, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at his home.

He was born Jan. 21, 1928, in the town of Colchester, the son of John and Mildred (Ellet) Schreier.

He was married to Gladys M. Pilkerton, June 4, 1950, in Beltsville, Md. Mrs. Schreier, died March 16, 1994.

He served in the United States Army from 1946-1947, and from 1950-1952.

He has been a 24-year resident of Unadilla and had previously lived in Deposit and Walton.

He was a retired employee of the Laborer's Union Local No. 7 of Binghamton.

Mr. Schreier is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Gloria and Robert Coffey of Unadilla and Donna Dailey of Harpursville; a son, Donald W. Schreier Jr. of Unadilla; two brothers, Paul Schreier of Florida and Jack Schreier of Greenville, S.C.; four sisters, Buelah Kerschner of Walton, Jean Barnes of Chambersburg, Pa., Bonnie Yale and Joan Cotton of Unadilla; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Hiller Fuller.

Funeral and committal services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at the Westcott Funeral Home, 112 Main St., Unadilla, with the Rev. R. Michael Amos, pastor of the Fellowship Baptist Church, Unadilla, officiating. Burial will be later in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.

Friends may call at the funeral home, Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at their convenience and the family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.
