Gordon H. Beams
ONEONTA — Mr. Gordon H. Beams, 84, of Oneonta died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at his home.

He was born June 1, 1914, in Oneonta, the son of Clifford and Susan (Hopkins) Beams.

He married Beulah Coe on Oct. 5, 1940, in Oneonta.

Gordon was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army.

Gordon graduated from Oneonta High School in 1931. He was the superintendent of the New York State Armory on Academy Street in Oneonta, retiring on May 31, 1983.

Gordon was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was also an avid golfer and bowler. He enjoyed camping and playing horseshoes.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Beulah Beams of Oneonta; and several nieces and nephews.

Gordon was predeceased by an infant son, Donald Bruce Beams; one brother, Larry Beams; and two sisters, Frances Simonds and Lois Faucett.

Funeral and committal services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at 1 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Andrea  White, spiritual care coordinator for Catskill Area Hospice, officiating. The family will be present today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, when those who wish may call. Burial will be in the spring at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 or to the American Cancer Society, Southern District Office, 57 Front St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905, in loving memory of Gordon H. Beams.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Alice L. Brower
DAVENPORT — Alice L. Brower, 100, formerly of the town of Davenport, passed away Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Robinson Terrace in Stamford.

She was born Aug. 2, 1898, in the town of Sidney, the daughter of David and Betsy (Palmer) Drake.

She married the late Charles Brower on May 6, 1919, and he predeceased her in 1963.

She attended school in Sidney and was a housewife on the dairy farm she and her husband ran in the town of Davenport.

Mrs. Brower is survived by a daughter, Katherine Truscott of Meridale; a daughter-in-law, Rose Brower of Sidney; six grandsons, Douglas and Patricia Brower of Sidney, Richard and Robin Brower of Franklin, Ernest Truscott of Meridale, Paul and Holly Truscott of Oneonta, Steven and Carol Brower of Hernando, Fla., and Allen Brower of Milford; two granddaughters, Ramona Truscott of Maryland and Wanda and Bernie Purinton of Hernando, Fla.; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Her husband and two sons predeceased her, Lloyd Brower and Howard Brower, and three brothers, Clifford, Dewitt and Fred Drake.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at 1 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport with calling hours preceding the service from noon until service time. The Rev. Traci Martin of the Davenport Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in the spring in the Franklin Cemetery.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport.

Gladys L. Foley
GLOVERSVILLE — Mrs. Gladys L. Foley, 90, of Gloversville died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at the Mount Loretto Nursing Home, Amsterdam.

She was born June 11, 1908, in Trout Creek, the daughter of Reed and Agnes (Millen) LaTourette.

She graduated from Sidney High School in 1924, and from the former Oneonta Normal School in 1927.

For 20 years she was employed as a technical clerk in the steam turbine division of General Electric Co. in Schenectady before retiring in 1973.

She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ambridge of Wells and Jane Pollak of Johnstown; one son, John F. Foley of Yorktown Heights; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Turner of New Berlin; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one daughter, Nancy Foley, and two grandchildren, Maria Ambridge and Jason Foley; three brothers, LoRaine, Glenn and Reed Jr. LaTourette.

Funeral services were held Feb. 5, 1999, at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, Johnstown.

A spring burial will be held in the Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.

Louise Risedorph
NEW BERLIN — Louise Risedorph, 85, of New Berlin died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, in New Berlin.

She was born June 25, 1913, in the town of Edmeston, the daughter of Harold and Winifred (Homes) Rogers.

She married Percy O. Risedorph on Sept. 7, 1940. He survives.

Her childhood was spent in Edmeston. She attended Brookfield Central School. She was a graduate of the former New Berlin Central School. She attended Cazenovia College and graduated from Syracuse School of Nursing.

She was a registered nurse at the Chase Nursing Home and Hospital, New Berlin.

She was a member of the Columbus Quater Church, town of Columbus, member of the DAR, Eastern Star and the Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by one stepsister, India Edwards of Burlington Flats.

She was predeceased by one sister, Maxine Manchester.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at 2 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with the Rev. Ernest Clemons officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Corners Cemetery, town of Columbus.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, from noon to 2 p.m. immediately preceding the funeral at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity or organization of your choice.

Henry A. Schebaum
WELLESLEY, Mass. — Henry A. Schebaum, 77, formerly of Morris died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at the Newton-Wellesley Center in Wellesley, Mass.

He was born Sept. 15, 1921, in Corona, the son of William and Sophie (Becker) Schebaum.

He was married to Mary Grant on Oct. 5, 1946, in Corona. She died Oct. 1, 1995.

Henry was the Power Plant manager for the Long Island Lighting Co., until his retirement in 1983, after 37 years of service to the company.

He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II serving in both the European and Asiatic theater of operations.

He is survived by a son, William Schebaum and his wife, Martha, of West Oneonta; and a daughter, Lauren Gallant and her husband, Dean, of Belmont, Mass.; two grandsons, William and Matthew Schebaum; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, with the Rev. J. Mark Norlund officiating. Burial will be in Hillington Cemetery in Morris in the spring. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Those who wish are asked to donate to the Alzheimer's Association, Leatherstocking Chapter, care of the Johnston Funeral Home, P.O. Box 750, Morris, N.Y. 13808.

Joan K. Sandike
GILBERTSVILLE — Joan K. Sandike, 63, of Gilbertsville, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at A.O. Fox Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born March 28, 1935, in Gilbertsville, the daughter of George E. and Josephine (Foote) Holden.

She was twice married and a lifelong area resident. She was a member of the Women's Relief Corp, the Butternuts Valley Grange, a member of the Presbyterian Church and a former elder of the church and was also very active in the church youth groups. She was also a very strong supporter of the Boy Scouts and Exploring programs in the Butternut Valley. She was the founder and president of the "Farmers Health Agency" of Gilbertsville, for more than 28 years.

Joan is survived by her son, Everest E. (Ed) Dibble Jr., and his wife, Patricia A., of Gilbertsville; two grandsons, Everest E. (Edward) Dibble III and Timothy G. Dibble; a sister, Ann Hull, and her husband, Thomas, of Tilson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom remember Joan as a devoted mother and grandmother and aunt.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 20, 1999, at 2 p.m. in the Presbyterian Church in Gilbertsville, with the Dr. Rev. Donald Boardman and the Rev. Randolph Palada officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery in Gilbertsville at a later date. Calling hours will be held on Friday, Feb. 19, 1999, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.

Friends are asked to donate to their favorite charity in her memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Alfred Julius Chase
BALDWINSVILLE — Alfred Julius Chase, 88, of Baldwinsville, formerly of New Berlin, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, in Baldwinsville.

He was born May 29, 1910, in Pittsfield, the son of Julius and Etta (Ashley) Chase.

He spent his childhood in the Pittsfield area. He attended local area schools.

He loved gardening and bowling.

He attended the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin. He was a member of the 60 plus and Senior Citizens of New Berlin and a member of the Grange.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Helen Chase Stafford and Richard Stafford of Baldwinsville; and grandchildren, Jennifer and Heather Stafford of Baldwinsville and Scott Stafford of East Syracuse.

He was predeceased by one brother, Homer A. Chase.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at 3 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with the Rev. Beverly Butler of the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, from 1 to 3 p.m. preceding the funeral at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Memorial donations may be made to the Syracuse Nursing Home, Meigs Road, Baldwinsville, N.Y. 13027 or the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin.

Kenneth A. Scanlon
ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — Kenneth A. Scanlon, 88, formerly of Maryland, N.Y., died at his home in Zephyrhills, Fla., on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999.

A native of Maryland, N.Y., Mr. Scanlon moved to Zephyrhills, Fla., in 1995.

He was employed by Bendix Corporation, a member of the Cooperstown Junction United Methodist Church, the Crumhorn Mountain Rod and Gun Club, the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors, and a lifetime member of the Lodge 1529 International Machinist and Aerospace Workers.

Mr. Scanlon was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, a daughter, Kathy Ann, three brothers, Maurice, Donald and John Jr., and two sisters, Mary Michaletz and Ruth Dulkis.

He is survived by a brother, Gerald of Brooksville, Fla.; three sisters, Velma M. Davis of Richmondville, N.Y., Doris Kenik of Oneonta, N.Y., and Virginia Scanlon of Cooperstown, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Mr. Scanlon will be held in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cooperstown Junction United Methodist Church, care of Mrs. Edna Schaffer, 42 Morgan Ave., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are by Kelly Memorial Funeral Home, Zephyrhills, Fla.

Harold Robinson Sr.
DAVENPORT — Harold Emmett Robinson Sr. (Robbie), 71, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
Harold was born on Oct. 18, 1927, the son of Emmett and Sarah (Bailey) Robinson.

Harold grew up on the family farm in Worcester, and attended the Worcester school. He married Helen M. Phillips on June 28, 1947, in Worcester.

Harold earned his Electronics Technology Certificate in 1956. He ran Rob's T.V. Repair Shop on Main Street in Davenport and also the Delhi Radio and T.V. Shop in Delhi from 1956-1985. He then worked with J.M.F. Association with Pete Haddam in Oneonta from 1987-1990.

Harold was the past president of the D.&H. Bowling league on Thursday nights. He was an avid gardener, bird watcher, nature lover, past fisherman and frequently attended flea markets. Harold was the father of the band "Jr. & the Nite Raiders," which were his three sons and a daughter-in-law.

Harold is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Helen M. Robinson of Davenport; two brothers, Homer Robinson and Arnold Robinson and wife, Noel, all of Worcester; three sisters, Frances McMullen of Port Crane, Ruth Knapp of Owego and Esther Walzer of Stanton,  Calif.; six children, Harold Jr. and wife, Betty, of Hartwick, Eugene of Davenport, Lyle and wife, Dorothy, of Davenport, Patricia Craft of Hobart, Victoria Zimmerman and husband, Charles III, of Davenport and Sarah McLean and husband, William, of Stamford; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Beatrice Furman and Dorothy Becker; a brother, Kenneth Robinson; three infant children; a daughter-in-law, Bertha Robinson; and a son-in-law, Richard Craft.

The twinkle in this dear brother, father, and grandfather's blue eyes will be dearly missed.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester, with the Rev. Frank MacCracken Sr. officiating. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at the funeral chapel. Burial will take place at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester, in the spring.

Contributions may be made to the Davenport First Responders, P.O. Box 233, Davenport, N.Y. 13750.

Funeral arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.
