Donald Lapierre
OXFORD — Donald Lapierre, 83, formerly of Bainbridge, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 1999, at the New York State Veterans Home, Oxford.

He was born Sept. 8, 1915, to the late Joseph A. and Rose Ann Richards Lapierre in Woonsocket, R.I.

Donald served his country during World War II.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Lapierre on Nov. 21, 1995.

Donald is survived by three sisters, Jeannette Betty of Massachusetts, Doris Weber of Kansas and Dorothy Higgins of California.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 5, 1999, at St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church, Bainbridge, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. Donald Bourgeois, pastor, officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge, in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church, Bainbridge.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., 21 Main St., Sidney.

Elizabeth Underwood
MORRIS — Elizabeth Estelle Underwood, 81, of Morris, and formerly of Otego, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at her residence in Morris.

She was born Dec. 10, 1917, in Sidney, the daughter of Dewitt T. and Irene C. (Bidwell) Underwood.

She had worked as a domestic in the Oneonta and Unadilla area for many years and had resided in the Morris area for the past nine months.

She was a member of the Delaware County Home Bureau, the Seventeener Club (which is a club dedicated to those ladies who were born in the year 1917, throughout the world).

She enjoyed traveling, reading, tatting and quilting.

She is survived by a sister, Christie Stewart of Morris; nephews and nieces including, Richard and Beatrice Worden, Willis and Eleanor Wightman, Bruce and Norma Wolcott, all of Richfield Springs, Richard and Bessie Mertins of Morris, D.L. (Cappy) Chase and his wife, Debbie, of Ilion, Nils and Connie Klem of Junction City, Kan.; 22 grandnieces and grandnephews; and many great-grand nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a sister, Zida Chase, and a niece, Ann Marie Armstrong.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 6, 1999, at 7 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, with the Rev. J. Mark Norlund and the Rev. Alan Hatch officiating.

Her final resting place will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Otego at a later date.

Calling hours will be from 6 p.m. Saturday until service time at the funeral home.

Those who wish may donate to the (Save Our Children) project, care of the Otego Baptist Church, or the charity of one's choice in Estelle's memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Evelyn B. Lowe
COOPERSTOWN — Evelyn B. Lowe, 90, formerly of Mount Upton, passed away Thursday, March 4, 1999, at The Meadows Nursing Home, Cooperstown.

She was born Dec. 18, 1908, to the late Theodore and Christina Wolfe Haynes in Rockdale.

Evelyn married Paul S. Lowe on June 13, 1929, in Binghamton. He predeceased her on Oct. 1, 1994.

She attended the East Guilford Presbyterian Church and was a past member of the Unadilla Grange. Evelyn was an avid gardener, she loved her flower and vegetable gardens.

Evelyn is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Sara Lowe of Mount Upton, William and Florence Lowe of Mount Upton, John Lowe of Sherburne and Duane and Nancy Lowe of Mount Upton; five daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Williams of Montrose, Pa., Marion Weeks of Bainbridge, Ethel McCumber of Sidney, Marie and Robert Luce of Swanton, Ohio, and Barbara and Andy  Woods of Mount Upton; one brother, Herman Haynes of Mount Upton; one sister, Normina Preston of Laceyville, Pa.; 42 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 7, 1999, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. Helen Havlik, pastor of the East Guilford Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Friends may call Saturday, March 6, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Burial will be in East Guilford Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Delaware Valley Humane Society, 101 East Main St., Sidney, or the Joslin Diabetes Center, One Joslin Place, Boston, Mass. 02215.

Anna McCruden
WORCESTER — Anna Belle McCruden, 63, of Worcester, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at her residence.

She was born Sept. 26, 1935, in Carmel, the daughter of Alton and Evelyn (Ridgeway) Travis.

She married John McCruden on Aug. 27, 1968, in Carmel.

Anna Belle worked as a nurses aide at Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She moved to Worcester in 1976, from Poughquag.

She was a member of the Worcester Grange. Anna Belle cared for elderly people in the Worcester area. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Anna Belle is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and David Chase of Worcester and Jackie and Vinnie Pullicino of New Milford, Conn.; three sons, Ron Lane of Worcester, Dennis and his wife, Lisa Travis, of Worcester and John and his wife, Carolyn McCruden, of Schenevus; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters, Cressie Sacchetti of Carmel and Mary Cosme of Queens; one brother, Alton Travis Jr. of Charlotteville; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, March 6, 1999, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worester, with the Rev. George I. Goodwin Sr., retired, officiating.

Burial will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date.

Calling hours will be Friday, March 5, 1999, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Anna Belle to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester.

Carmela M. Rollins
ONEONTA — Carmela M. Rollins, 77, of Oneonta, died Thursday, March 4, 1999, at the Fox Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness.

She was born May 3, 1921, in Manhattan, the daughter of Rocco and Guilia (Spagna) Marro.

She married Harold Rollins on Oct. 2, 1949, in Queens. Mr. Rollins died Aug. 30, 1961.

Mrs. Rollins was a longtime resident of  White Plains, where she owned and operated the Millie Rollins Real Estate Agency, until her retirement in 1988. She moved to Oneonta in 1988, to be with her daughters and grandson.

She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church of Oneonta and had previously been active in civic and community affairs in  White Plains.

Carmela is survived by two daughters, Deborah Harrington and friend, Terrence Fox, and Patricia Cole and friend, Richard Couden, all of Oneonta; one grandson, Michael Cole of Oneonta; and one sister, Miss Rose Marro of Toms River, N.J.

Graveside and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 8, 1999, at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, with burial to follow.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are by Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Marjorie Kane Gerry
LAKE DELAWARE — Marjorie Kane Gerry, 89, of Lake Delaware, died on Thursday, March 4, 1999, following a short illness at Delhi.

Widow of the late Elbridge T. Gerry, who died on Feb. 26, 1999, she is survived by two sons, Elbridge T. Jr. of Locust Valley and Peter G. of Hopewell, N.J.; a daughter, Marjorie G. Ryland of Beverly, Mass.; a sister, Patricia Kane Leonard of Chesiers, Switzerland; 11 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A joint memorial service for her and her husband of 67 years will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at Trinity Church, Wall Street and Broadway, New York City, at 10:30 a.m. A local service will take place in the spring at a date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake Delaware Boys Camp or The O'Connor Hospital, Delhi, N.Y. 13753.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, 131 Main St., Delhi.

Christine Brent
COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Christine Gunhilda Brent, 88, of Cooperstown, died Thursday afternoon, March 4, 1999, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born July 9, 1910, in Kristiansand, Norway, a daughter of Karl and Kristine (Burkeland) Jensen.

She first married Walter J. Bass on June 14, 1930, in North Haven, Conn. He died Nov. 11, 1937. She then married Arnold A. Brent on March 12, 1955, in North Haven, Conn. He died on March 16, 1992.

Mrs. Brent was raised and educated in Norway. In 1927, she came to the United States and became a citizen in 1953. During World War II she served as an air raid matron and volunteered for the Red Cross. She also worked for a manufacturing company that produced defense products. Mrs. Brent later worked for many years as a secretary for Burndy Corp. in Norwalk, Conn., a company that produced electrical connectors and tools for their installation, until her retirement in 1972. Living most of her life in North Haven, Conn., she and her second husband moved to Cooperstown in 1979.

She was of the Protestant faith and enjoyed knitting Norwegian sweaters, hats and mittens.

Mrs. Brent is survived by one stepdaughter, Lois Hennessey of Baltimore, Md.; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Margaret Bass of Cooperstown; two sisters, Katie Andrewsen and Edel Salingo, both of North Haven, Conn.; one brother, Ralph Jensen of Waterford, Conn.; six grandchildren, Jonathan Bass and his wife, Lynn, of Cooperstown, Marcia Kemp and her husband, Richard, of Rockville Center, Christopher Bass and his wife, Sherry, of Cooperstown, Walter Jason Bass of Binghamton and Mary Hennessey and J.D. Hennessey, both of the state of Maryland; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States and Norway.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Karla and Doris.

Funeral services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family at the Montowese Cemetery in North Haven, Conn.

At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, N.Y. 13220-3049.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Richard H. Himes
COOPERSTOWN — Mr. Richard "Ted" Himes Sr., died Friday, March 5, 1999, at The Meadows.

Ted was born June 13, 1923, in Oneonta, the son of Andrew and Goldie (Graham) Himes.

He married Bertha M. Dietz on Nov. 15, 1947, in Oneonta. They were married for 48 years until her death on July 10, 1996.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and Korea having served in New Guinea, Philippines and Korea.

Ted was a member of the American Legion and the Salvation Army. He was a maintenance supervisor at SUCO for 20 years and belonged to CSEA.

Ted is survived by five sons, Richard H. Himes Jr. of Elizabethtown, Ky., Gary R. Himes Sr. of Rochester and Wayne A. Himes Sr., Terry L. Himes and Douglas R. Himes of Otego; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Fredric Knapp of Milford and Edith and George Browning of Missouri; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Edith Catella of Oneonta, Mrs. Jennie Spence of Maryland, Mrs. Catherine Newell of Norwich, Miss Dorothy Himes of Sidney and Mrs. Elizabeth Hoffman of Cooperstown; one brother, Andrew Himes Jr. of Peoria, Ariz.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, William and Gerald Himes.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta. Lt. Michael Knepp of the Salvation Army will officiate.

Mr. Himes will be placed in the Bookhout private vault to await burial in the spring at Milford Center Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 7-9 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made in Ted's memory to the Salvation Army, 25 River St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes of Oneonta and Otego.

Allan K. Young
WESTVILLE — Mr. Allan K. Young, 46, of Westville, died Thursday, March 4, 1999.

He was born April 15, 1952, in Stamford, a son of Kenneth and June (Sprague) Young.

Allan was a lifelong resident of the Westville area and graduated from Milford Central School in 1972. Allan has been employed at the Otesaga Hotel for 27 years as a bartender where he made many friends with co-workers and hotel guests.

Allan will be remembered for his love of classic cars as well as his support of the Milford Central School sports teams. He was also very involved in family affairs.

Allan is survived by his parents, June and Kenneth Young of Westville; a sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Ted Winsor of Milford; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Marnita Young of Davenport; a maternal grandmother, Dorothy Shaul of Earlville; two nephews, John-Henry Winsor and Justin Young; a niece, Kimberly Winsor; three special friends, Daria and Florence Drysdale and David Drysdale; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be Thursday, March 11, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Milford with the Rev. Nancy Kozlowski, pastor of the Milford United Methodist Church, officiating.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 10, 1999 from 5-8 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Milford when the family will be in attendance. Burial will be in the spring in the Westville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, for those who wish may make contributions in Allan's name to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc. at 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.
