Mabel M. Fay
NORWICH — Mabel M. Fay, 90, of Norwich and a former lifelong resident of Morris, died Thursday, March 25, 1999 at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich.

She was born Dec. 28, 1908 in Morris, the daughter of Willard and Anna (Keller) Gifford.

She was first married to Charles Miller in 1930. He died in 1973. She was then married to Charles Fay in 1976. He died in 1987.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Morris and the Church Women's Guild. She was also a longtime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Morris Fire Department.

Mabel is survived by a son, Ronald Miller, and his wife, Darlene, of Morris; a daughter, Joan Valentine, and her husband, Bill, of Homer; her grandchildren including Randall Miller, Joseph Miller, Deanna Kent, Ronald Miller, Matthew Miller, Olivia Miller, Karin Casalarc and David and Jonathan Valentine; great-grandchildren including Amber Miller, Jeffrey Miller, Tiffany and Brittany Miller, Ashley and Joshua Kent, Thomas Wallace and Dustin Sherman; stepchildren, Michael and Tim Fay; and a stepgrandchild, Meike Fay.

Private funeral services will be Sunday, March 28, 1999, at the United Methodist Church in Morris with the Rev. Kip Stratton officiating.

Burial will be in the Hillington Cemetery in Morris.

Calling hours will be Saturday, March 27, 1999, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.

In lieu of flowers, it was Mabel's request that donations be made to the United Methodist Church of Morris or the Morris Fire Department Emergency Squad in her memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Frank J. McMahon
SOUTH GILBOA — Frank J. McMahon, 73, of Meeghan Road, South Gilboa, died Friday, March 26, 1999, at the home of his daughter Patricia in Inwood, Long Island.

He was born April 23, 1925, in New York City, the son of Frank and Florence (Shields) McMahon.

Frank was married to Louise L. Kenney on Feb. 16, 1947, at Howard's Beach, Queens. Louise died June 26, 1998.

Frank was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II, and had served in the Pacific Theater. For 27 years he was employed as a foreman for the New York City Department of Sanitation. He retired in 1973.

Frank had lived in South Gilboa for the past 25 years, moving here from Inwood, Long Island.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Stamford, the Lt. Harry Pruden Jr. VFW Post, Stamford, and the  Jefferson Senior Citizens. Recently Frank acted as a volunteer for the Restoration of the USS Slater in Albany.

Frank is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Robert Hefferman of Inwood, Kathleen and Fred Kerber of Oceanside and Mary McMahon of Albany; son and daughter-in-law, Frank J. and Sue McMahon Jr. of Stamford; grandchildren, Christine, Tricia, Dennis and Robert Hefferman, Allison, Fred, Michael and Keith Kerber and Julie and Brian McMahon; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Richard Croly of Palm Bay, Fla.; a brother, Raymond McMahon of Sebring, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Frank was predeceased by a sister, Theresa Donovan, and brothers, George, Eugene, Gerald and Robert.

A funeral Mass will be offered 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at the Sacred Heart Church, Stamford, with the Rev. Joseph Cebula, pastor, presiding. The burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford, between 2 and 4 p.m. and 7 and 9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, at which time the family will be in attendance.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Frank's memory to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford-Grand Gorge.

William M. Langdon
YONKERS — William M. Langdon, 82, of Yonkers, died Thursday, March 25, 1999, in Manhattan.

He was born Oct. 25, 1916, in Brooklyn, the son of Charles D. and Ann (Genirs) Langdon.

He married Eloise Harsnett on June 26, 1948, in Yonkers, who survives.

He was a lifelong Yonkers resident. He was a graduate of Richmond Hill High School, Queens.

He worked for CARE for more than 40 years traveling to many different countries including Kenya, Indonesia, Egypt, India, Columbia and Bolivia.

He was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church, New Berlin.

He served in the United States Army during World War II as a 1st Lt. in the 163 Field Artillery in the Philippines and New Guinea. He was a decorated veteran receiving the Bronze Star and Air Medal for Bravery.

He was a great basketball and baseball player, playing on the New York City team as a first baseman with Phil Rizzuto, where he won the city championship. He also loved to dance. He was a man of extreme integrity, kindness, honor and exceptional devotion to his families needs. He also had a wonderful sense of humor.

William is survived by one son, Gregory "Gerard" and Jeannie Loh Langdon of Oneonta; one daughter, Heidi Langdon of Yonkers; and one granddaughter, Alexandria "Xandry" Langdon.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 1, 1999, at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, New Berlin, with Fr. Francis Case of St. Theresa's Catholic Church, New Berlin. Interment will be in Columbus Corners Cemetery, town of Columbus, at a later date.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 31, 1999, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Edna Reinhardt
DELHI — Edna Coulter Reinhardt, 86, of Delhi and formerly of Oneonta, died Friday, March 26, 1999, at O'Connor Hospital, Delhi.

She was born July 30, 1912, in Andes, the daughter of Nell (Tremper) and Howard Coulter.

Mrs. Reinhardt was an honor graduate of Andes School.

On Sept. 30, 1937, she married Samuel Percy Reinhardt in Central Islip, Long Island. They resided in Oneonta from 1946 until 1996.

Mrs. Reinhardt was employed as a teacher's aide at Greater Plains Elementary School in Oneonta for several years.

She was a devoted wife and mother.

She lived with her daughter from February of 1996 until July of 1997, when she became a resident of Countryside Care Center in Delhi.

Mrs. Reinhardt is survived by one daughter, Elaine of Delhi; one son, Donald of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years and one brother, Burton Coulter of Delhi.

At the request of the family there will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at the family's convenience at a later date in the Hamden Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Countryside Care Center, RR1 Box 417, Delhi, N.Y. 13753.

Antonina Dziewit
STAMFORD — Antonina Dziewit, 93, of Robinson Terrace, Stamford, died Friday, March 26, 1999, at her residence.

She was born June 13, 1905, in Poland, the daughter of Felix and Petronela (Oksinska) Smoktonowicz.

Antonina was married to Franciszek Dziewit, who has predeceased her.

Antonina is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janina and Kazimierz Kuznicki of Fairview Heights, Ill.; a son and daughter-in-law, Kazimierz and Helen Dziewit of Harpersfield; grandchildren, Ted Dziewit, Christina Ranks, Eddy Kuznicki and Halina Muller; four great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be offered 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at the Sacred Heart Church, Stamford, with the Rev. Joseph Cebula, pastor, presiding. The burial will be in St. Raymond's Cemetery, Bronx. Visiting hours will be before the funeral Mass between 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Antonina's memory to the R.A. Robinson Emergency Squad, Main Street, Stamford, N.Y. 12167.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford-Grand Gorge.

David H. Luquer
EAST MEREDITH — David H. Luquer, 82, Catskill Turnpike, East Meredith, died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born Aug. 15, 1916, the son of David and Frances (Fellows) Luquer in Maybrook.

He married Mabel Fuller in 1946, in Oneonta.

Mr. Luquer ran a farm in East Meredith. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army; a 30-year active member of the Donald W. Gleason American Legion Post of Delhi, serving as past commander and in many other capacities; also past vice president of town of Meredith Democratic Club; and was an election custodian.

Survived by his wife, Mabel, at home; a son, Earl David; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; three sisters, Venona Orr of Oneonta, and Genevieve Broas and Betty Ekerts of Middletown; and one brother, Francis of Seattle, Wash.

A son, Gary Lee Luquer, predeceased him.

There will not be any funeral services following the wishes of Mr. Luquer.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Meridale Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Alice V. Kniskern
DORLOO — Mrs. Alice V. Kniskern, 58, of West Richmondville Road, died Saturday, March 27, 1999, at her residence following a long illness.

Mrs. Kniskern was born July 25, 1940, in  Jefferson, the daughter of Rubin and Lenna (Ovitt) Clapper.

Mrs. Kniskern was a lifelong area resident and had attended  Jefferson High School. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Kniskern enjoyed fishing and hunting as well as going for rides on Sunday afternoons.

She is survived by her husband, Douglas C. Kniskern, whom she married Sept. 25, 1964; a son, Darrell Kniskern of Dorloo; two brothers, Arthur Clapper of Rome, Ga., and Charles Buck of Charlotteville.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 68 Elm St., Cobleskill. Officiating will be the Rev. Andrea  White of the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Oneonta.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, March 29.

Spring interment will be in the Seward Valley Cemetery, Dorloo.

Helen E.M. Chetner
COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Helen E.M. Chetner, 92, of Cooperstown, died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at The Meadows.

Helen was born Oct. 28, 1906, in New York City, a daughter of Vaclav and Anna (Halir) Korinek.

She married Charles Chetner in St. Mary's Church in Hackensack, N.J., on Sept. 5, 1925. He died on June 23, 1989.

During World War II, she worked at Wright's Aeronautical War Plant in Woodridge, N.J. In 1944, she and her family moved to a farm on Christian Hill. For many years she worked in the J.J. Newberry Store in Cooperstown, retiring in 1975.

Helen was a communicant of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown.

Helen is survived by a daughter, Helen F. Chetner of Cooperstown; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles J. and Catherine F. Chetner of Montrose; three grandsons and their wives, James and Debbi Chetner of Lake Peekskill, Michael and Laura Chetner of Lancaster,  Calif., and John and Karen Chetner of Wappingers Falls; a granddaughter and her husband, Ann and Eric Kummer of Poughquag; four great-grandchildren, Michael Chetner of Lake Peekskill, Holly and Emily Chetner of Lancaster,  Calif., and Megan Chetner of Wappingers Falls; several nieces and nephews; as well as a special friend, Arletta Kortz of Cooperstown.

She was predeceased by a sister, Theresa Riedel, and three brothers, William, Joseph and Adolph Korinek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown, with Fr. John R. Roos officiating. Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 30, 1999, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, when the family will be in attendance. Burial will be later in the spring at St. Mary's Cemetery in Index.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Volunteers of The Meadows, care of Marge Schellhammer, 26 Maple St., Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Robert H. Houghton
EAST WORCESTER — Robert H. Houghton, 84, died Monday, March 29, 1999, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 10, 1914, in Hartwick Seminary, the son of Dorr and Catherine (Henderson) Houghton.

He married Irene Dettling on Oct. 9, 1941, at St. Joseph's Church in Worcester.

Bob lived the majority of his life in East Worcester.

He owned and operated the Worcester Box Company in East Worcester.

Bob was a former president and treasurer of the Worcester Rotary. He was also a former Worcester town assessor, serving for 32 years.

Robert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Irene Houghton of East Worcester; one sister, Ruth Greene of Albany; one sister-in-law, Alice Staruck of Unadilla; two nieces, Ester Conklin of Berne and Lois VanBuren of Albany; two nephews, the Rev. Russell Greene of Connecticut and David Greene of  South Carolina; a cousin, Faith Buechner of Milford; and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 31, 1999, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Worcester, with the Rev. William Crandall as the celebrant.

Burial will be in the St. Joseph's Cemetery at a later date.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, March 30, 1999, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester. A recital of the Rosary will be held at 8 p.m.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Bob to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820; East Worcester First Responders, P.O. Box 781, East Worcester, N.Y. 12064; or St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church "Building Fund," 181 Main St., Worcester, N.Y. 12197.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester.
