Lawrence J. Murphy
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Lawrence J. Murphy (Larry), 64, of Manley Street, died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 1, 1999.

He was born on March 18, 1935, in Mohawk, son of the late William P. and Bertha M. Cole Murphy.

Larry was raised in Richfield Springs and was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School, Class of 1954.

On Feb. 10, 1956, he entered the U.S. Army, where he served for three years, being honorably discharged on Feb. 10, 1959. He had worked locally for the Beunit Fiber Company, Utica, and various other places in California and Florida, before returning to Richfield Springs in 1982.

Surviving him are two brothers, Vincent, and his wife, Mary Murphy, of Marcellus and Leo F. Murphy of Richfield Springs; two sisters, Evelyn, and her husband, Clyde Ballard, of Cooperstown and Lorraine A. Jennings of Richfield Springs; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Terrance Healy officiating.

Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery later this spring. Calling hours will be Monday evening from 6-8 p.m.

Lloyd E. Rutenber
PORT ST. JOHN, Fla. — Lloyd E. Rutenber, of Port St. John, Fla., passed away March 25, 1999 at his home.

He was born Sept. 1, 1938, to Albert and Florence (Stoutenberg) Rutenber in Sidney.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; his sons, Terry of Salt Lake City and Eric of Canaveral Gardens, Fla.; his daughters, Robin of Hawaii and Patina of London; one sister and brother-in-law, Arlene and Jerry Voorhis of Nineveh; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Fred Steiber of Norwich; one brother, Arnold Rutenber of Bells, Tenn.; and five grandchildren.

He retired from the United States Air Force, spent three years in Saudi Arabia for Macdonald Douglas and was employed until his illness at Kennedy Space Center, Florida.

Memorial services were held March 28 at Elks Lodge in Titusville, Fla.

Donald F. English
EDMESTON — Donald F. English, 68, of Edmeston, formerly of Smithtown, died March 18, 1999.

Mr. English was a veteran of the Korean War and a retired foreman of the Smithtown Highway Department.

He was the beloved husband of Renate and the late Nancy English; the devoted father of Karen Mazzola, Gary, Mark, Donna and Paul English, Terri Bellows and John Green; the dear brother of William English and the loving grandfather of six.

Interment will be in Calverton National Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 17, 1999, 11 a.m., at St. Andrew's, New Berlin.

Naomi B. Adams
SIDNEY CENTER — Naomi B. Adams, 81, of Sidney Center passed away Friday, April 2, 1999, at The Hospital, Sidney.

She was born Nov. 11, 1917, to the late Albert and Phoebe (Langua) Baker in Brooklyn.

Naomi married Al Adams on March 6, 1954, in Brooklyn.

She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sidney.

Naomi is survived by her husband, Al Adams of Sidney Center; daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and David Earl of Sidney Center; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Carole Marshall of Port Townsend, Wash. and Alexander and Susan Marshall of Manhattan; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held today at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Thomas E.C. Margrave, vicar of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Bainbridge, officiating.

Friends may call today from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Sidney Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sidney Center Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., 21 Main St., Sidney.

Wilbur H. Bush
WESTFORD — Mr. Wilbur H. Bush, 84, passed away Saturday, April 3, 1999, at his home.

He was born March 8, 1915, on South Hill, Worcester, the son of John and Marion (Reed) Bush.

On June 7, 1937, he married Nellie B. McClintock, who survives, on South Hill, Worcester at the McClintock residence.

Mr. Bush was a graduate of Worcester High School, Class of 1933. He was a farmer and a buldozer contractor and employed by Van Dot Industries, Worcester.

He was a past highway superintendent for the town of Westford for 20 years, past town of Westford supervisor for four years and town councilman for 16 years.

Mr. Bush was a member of the Worcester Grange No. 1274, state and national for 67 years, a charter member of the Westford Fire Department with 49 years of service, a member of the planning board for the Southeastern Health Center, Worcester.

Mr. Bush is survived by his wife, Nellie Bush of Westford; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judith and Joseph Staruck of Schenevus, Marion and Edward Strong of Melborne, Fla., and Barbara and Richard Strader of Maryland; one son, William Bush of Oneonta; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Rexroad of Cooperstown, Georgia Sawyer of Worcester and Helen McClintock of Worcester; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation took place at the Leatherstocking Crematory, Cherry Valley.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 1999, 2 p.m., at the Westford United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bonnie McGraw, officiating. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Bush's memory may be made to the Westford First Responders or the Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Doris B. Chapman
BAINBRIDGE — Doris B. Chapman, 78, of Bainbridge passed away Friday, April 2, 1999, at the New York State Veterans Home, Oxford.

She was born Jan. 25, 1921, to the late Dwight and Grace (Shaw) Brewer in Columbia.

Doris married Archie H. Chapman. He predeceased her on May 15, 1978.

She was employed by E.C.D. of Bendix, Sidney for 15 years.

Doris is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and James Price of Georgia and Nancy and Douglas Benedict of Bainbridge; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Louis and Marion Chapman of Mount Vision and Daniel Chapman of Bainbridge; brother and sister-in-law, Dwight and Betty Brewer of Herkimer; two sisters and a brother-in-law, June and Lewis Sprague of Richfield Springs and Helen Androski of Florida; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is predeceased by a brother, Lyndon Brewer, and a sister, Florence Ackler.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. David H. Wood, pastor, West Bainbridge Baptist Church, officiating.

Friends may call Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 57 Front St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13903.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., 21 Main St., Sidney.

Margaret N. Deal
NEW BERLIN — Margaret N. Deal, 84, of New Berlin died Thursday, April 1, 1999, in Oneonta.

She was bon Sept. 25, 1914, in Greene, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Ford) Noone.

She married Harold S. Deal on Aug. 10, 1937. He died June 20, 1991.

She spent her childood in the Greene area. She was a graduate of Greene Central School. She received her teaching degree from Albany State Teachers College and her master's degree in reading specialties from Syracuse University.

She taught in the former New Berlin Cental School for many years and also taught in the Oneonta City School until her retirement.

She served on the New Berlin Central School Board. She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, New Berlin, member of the Eastern Star and the Honorary Teachers Organization Delta-Kappa-Gamma.

Margaret is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David J. and Carole Deal of New Berlin; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Pamela Kelley of Houston,  Texas; six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Donna, Karen, Emily, Molly and Lori; three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Melissa and Nicholas; and one sister, Frances Noone of New Berlin.

She was predeceased by one son, Robert Deal.

A private service will be held for the family at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to RIF (Reading is Fundamental) care of Barbara Lee, Unadilla Valley Central School, New Berlin.

Joseph Michael McCabe
WORCESTER — Joseph Michael McCabe, formerly of Worcester, passed away at Bassett Healthcare Hospital in Cooperstown, on Saturday, April 3, 1999, of complications from muscular sclerosis.

He spent the past 15 years in residence at The Meadows Nursing Home in Cooperstown.

Joe was born on March 26, 1934, in Albany, the son of Thomas W. and Mary (Stapleton) McCabe.

Joe devoted his entire life to education. After graduating from Worcester Central School in 1952, he attended the State University at Buffalo, where he was awarded a bachelor's degree in special education, physically handicapped and elementary education in 1956. He went on to obtain a master's degree in special education at Columbia University. He also engaged in post-graduate study at the University of Hawaii. For several summers Joe served as camp counselor for children with special needs at Langhorne, Pa. Joe taught special education at Highland Elementary School from 1959 until 1983, when failing health caused him to retire.

Joe thoroughly enjoyed meeting people and seeing new places. His summer freighter cruises took him to the Caribbean, South America, Scandinavia and Spain. He also lived in Belgium as a participant in the Experimental in International Living.

Joe is survived by his sister, Mary M. Brownell of Worcester; a niece, Virginia (Arnold) Levine of Cortland; nephews, David Brownell of Worcester and Thomas (Kay) Brownell of McLean, Va.; great-nieces, Suzanne and Patricia Levine of Cortland; a great-nephew, Jared Brownell of Worcester; and several cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Robert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Worcester, with the Rev. William Crandall as celebrant. Burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Worcester at a later date. There will be no calling hours.

Contributions in Joe's name may be made to The Meadows Activities Fund, 140 County Highway 33 W., Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326-9221.

Funeral arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

Jack Pardee
DELANCEY — John L. "Jack" Pardee, 84, of Terry Clove, DeLancey died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Countryside Care Center, Delhi.

He was born Dec. 18, 1914, in Hamden, the son of John and Maude (Conklin) Pardee.

He married Laura W. Palmatier, who died Oct. 7, 1961. He later married Margaret G. Hulse.

Jack was a well-known area ginseng hunter and owned and operated a dairy farm at Terry Clove for 25 years. Subsequently, he was a wildlife trapper and employed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, until his retirement.

A lifelong area resident, Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed conversation with his many friends.

Surviving are his former wife, Margaret Mallory of Hamden; seven children, Naomi Calhoun of DeLancey, Gloria Bacon of Andes, Lewis Pardee and Jack Carl Pardee, both of DeLancey, Donald Pardee of Bloomville, Carol Jeffery of Bedford, Ohio, and Jacqueline Pardee of Delhi; 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Ben Pardee of Downsville; four sisters, Mary Miller and Marion Ellis, both of Binghamton, Rose Elmore and Viola Mealus, both of Lake Pleasant; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Patty Sue Pardee, in 1961.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, where the family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. and funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, by the Rev. Bert More, with burial in the Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wildlife Federation.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Harold Wright Tyler
WESTFORD — Harold Wright Tyler went to his Eternal Rest on Sunday, April 4, 1999.

He was born on May 17, 1920, in Westford, the son of Jesse and Ethel (Wright) Tyler. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Mildred Vaughn and Marion Losee.

He was first married to Vivian Moore, who predeceased him. Their children are Linda Beth (Tyler) Adee of Schenevus, Cheryl Lee Tyler of Michigan and was predeceased by a daughter, Virginia Anne (Tyler) Card.

Harold later married Evelyn Moser, who survives, and their children are Linda Ellen (Tyler) Schwartz of Long Island, Timothy Paul Tyler of Florida and Sherry Lynn (Tyler) Peeters of Schenevus.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Harold spent his life in farming, mainly producing maple syrup and products. He was very well-known in the area. He was a lifetime member and trustee of the Westford United Methodist Church and a 32-year member and one of the five founding members of the Westford Fire Department. He was a member of the Schenevus Valley Masonic Lodge No. 592, the Schenevus Valley Rotary Club, the Worcester Valley Grange, the Westford Historical Association and was a past president and trustee of the Westford Cemetery. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau Association, the Morris Fair Board, the State Forest Practice Board, the Eastern Milk Producers, and the Flying Club of Westford, several years ago.

Harold was instrumental in giving his time and energy to the maple syrup industry, local and statewide. He was past president and member of the North American Maple Syrup Association, the New York State Maple Producers Association, of which he was president for a number of years and former president and member of the Otsego Maple Producers Association. He was inducted in the American Maple Hall of Fame in Croghan, in 1992. He was awarded the Charles R. Hubbell Award in 1993, by the Department of Agriculture and Markets in Albany for distinguished service in the maple industry.

He gave unselfishly of his time and energy to help in the smooth running of these organizations and was remembered as always ready to help whenever and wherever he could. He loved life and lived it to the fullest, in a quiet and dignified way, and was a man who didn't say "no" to whoever and wherever he could be of help.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 8, 1999, at the Westford United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bonnie McGraw officiating.

Burial and committal service will be in the Westford Cemetery and will be announced at a later date.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, at the E.J. Skinner Funeral Chapel in Worcester. There will be a Masonic service at 8 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in loving memory of Harold to the United Methodist Church, Westford; The Meadows, 140 County Highway 33W., Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326; Westford First Responders, P.O. Box 187, Westford, or the Westford Fire Department, P.O. Box 24, Westford, N.Y. 13488.

Funeral arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.
