Ellen Marie Vroman
NEW BERLIN — Ellen Marie Vroman, 53, of New Berlin died Saturday, Arpil 3, 1999, in New Berlin.

She was born April 13, 1945, in Utica, the daughter of Allie Cross and Olga Hardy.

She spent her childhood in the Brookfield area, and attended Brookfield High School.

She was a machine operator for Kraft Foods in South Edmeston for 24 years.

She was a member of the Morris Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher.

Ellen is survived by her children, Victoria Meyers of New Berlin, Joseph Vroman of Otego, Nancy Utter of New Berlin, Bonnie Elander of Lynchburg, Va. and Pamela Vroman of New Berlin; nine grandchildren, Crystal, Tiffany, Heather, Joseph, Rebecca, Suzanne, Stephanie, Ashleigh and Austin; one sister, N. Louise Spratt of Utica, one aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Owens of Brookfield; and one cousin, Thelma Kabana of Brookfield.

Funeral services will be held today at 1 p.m. at the Morris Baptist Church, Morris, with the Rev. Mark Norlund of the Morris Baptist Church, Morris, officiating.

Interment will be held in the Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer research.

Rosetta Card
OTEGO — Rosetta Card, 80, of Otego, died Sunday morning, April 4, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.

Rosetta was born Oct. 8, 1918, in East Guilford, the daughter of Henry and Blanche (Cotton) Utter.

She was married to Edgar Perry on April 14, 1935, in Harpersfield Center and to Harold Card on Aug. 3, 1963, in Oneonta.

Mrs. Card worked for the Otsego Laundry, Aluminum Factory, the Fairfield Apparel Dress Factory for more than 27 years, Green Thumb and she was an aide in the Oneonta Schools Handicapped bus.

Rosetta was one of the last surviving graduates of the Class of 1934, Harpersfield One Room School House.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Oneonta.

Mrs. Card is survived by a daughter and friend, Maude Baldo and Gerald Armstrong of Unadilla; a daughter, Elaine Nichols of Otego; and a daughter and son-in-law, Regina and Chet DeCarr of Otego; five grandchildren and their spouses, Gail Yager and Audie, Debra Horth and Gregory, Michael Angell and Yvonne, Michelle Anderson and her friend, Shawn Sullivan; and Robert Anderson; six great-grandchildren, Douglas Yager, Corina Yager, Jonathan Horth, Joshua Horth, Jacob Horth, Nicholas Angell and a seventh great-grandchild expected in June.

Mrs. Card is predeceased by her two husbands, Edgar Perry, and Harold Card, to whom she was married to each for 30 years, and a grandson, Bryan Angell.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at the First Presbyterian Church, 296 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Marie King, pastor of her church, officiating. A reception will follow at the church.

Mrs. Card will be buried 10 a.m., May 6, 1999, at the Cook Cemetery in West Oneonta.

The family will receive friends at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 296 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

William Kukulech
EDMESTON — William Kukulech, 69, of The Meadows, formerly of Edmeston, died Saturday, April 3, 1999, in Cooperstown.

He was born Feb. 22, 1930, in Pittsfield, the son of Michael and Anna (Cocundy) Kukulech.

He married Lenora Larrabee on July 25, 1953. She died April 10, 1986.

He spent his childhood in Pittsfield and attended local schools in Ketchum and New Berlin Central School.

He was a dairy farmer, then worked for various feed stores and also worked for the town of Edmeston.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Edmeston.

He was a loving father, uncle and grandfather.

William is survived by his children, Keith Kukulech of New Berlin, Virginia Marasco of Chittenango, Linda Kukulech of Edmeston, Lois LoPresti of Norwich and Nancy Swertfager of Norwich; five granddaughters, Danelle Kukulech, Ashely Kukulech, Heather Crandall, Lea LoPresti and Allie LoPresti; one brother, George Kukulech of Pittsfield; and one sister, June Knapp of West Laurens.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at 1 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with the Rev. Beverly Butler of the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin, officiating. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery, Edmeston.

Calling hours will be Tuesday, April 6, 1999, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Wayne R. Lambert
SAUGERTIES — Wayne R. Lambert, 59, of Appletree Drive, died Monday, April 5, 1999, at Kingston Hospital, Kingston.

He was born June 27, 1939, in Cobleskill, a son of Marion Winne Lambert Ruparshek and the late Melvin Lambert.

A graduate of the DeVry Institute, Mr. Lambert retired as a programmer from IBM Corp. in Kingston. He was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, the American Association of Retired Persons and was past president of the Mid-Hudson Photo Club.

His wife, Rose Marie Finnerty Lambert, died May 18, 1993.

Wayne is survived by his mother of Cooperstown; two sons, Patrick Thomas and Michael James, both of Saugerties; a sister, Wanda Ruiz of Springfield, Mass.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A daughter, Suzanne Monroe, died previously.

A gathering will be held at the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home, 411 Albany Ave., Kingston, on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at which time a service of remembrance will be conducted by the Rev. Arlene Dawber.

Inurnment will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 159 Green St., Kingston, N.Y. 12401.

Margaret Ford Leonard
WEST ONEONTA — Margaret Ford Leonard, 80, of West Oneonta died Monday, April 5, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.

She was born Sept. 23, 1918, in Oneonta, the daughter of Harold R. and Eloise (Sternberg) Ford.

She married Thomas P. Leonard in Oneonta on June 20, 1954. Mr. Leonard died.

Mrs. Leonard graduated from Emma Willard School for Girls in Troy, Class of 1936, and later attended Connecticut College for Women and Syracuse University.

She was a former member of the Oneonta Country Club and the Oneonta Garden Club.

Margaret is survived by two cousins, Mrs. Eloise Smith and Mrs. Eleanor Muligan, both of Richfield Springs.

She was predeceased by a sister, Miss E. Harriet Ford.

A memorial service will be held later at the convenience of the family. Burial will be later in Riverside Cemetery, Oneonta.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are by Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Roland M. Ouimet
ONEONTA — Roland M. Ouimet, 63, of Oneonta, died Sunday, April 4, 1999, at his residence unexpectedly.

He was born May 8, 1935, in Otego, the son of Homer and Florida (Riel) Ouimet.

Mr. Ouimet was a lifelong area resident, having been employed by the Delaware and Hudson Railroad for 27 years, prior to his retirement in 1995.

He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, and a former member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Maintenance and Way.

Roland is survived by his former wife, Nancy B. Ouimet of Bainbridge; three sons, Ronald M. Ouimet of Sidney, Nathan A. and his wife, Vikki Ouimet of Otego and Daniel Ouimet of Oneonta; one stepdaughter, Nancy Slice of Knoxville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; three brothers, Gene Ouimet of Otego, Donald Ouimet of Unadilla and Alfred Ouimet of Oneonta; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Francis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Friends may call at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, after 3 p.m., Tuesday.

The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday evening.

Jack M. Simpson
TULSA, Okla. — Jack M. Simpson, 81, of Tulsa, Okla., and Oneonta, N.Y., died Monday, March 22, 1999, at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, Okla.

He was born Aug. 21, 1917, in Anson,  Texas, the son of Eugene and Bess (Owens) Simpson.

After receiving a degree in engineering from the University of  Oklahoma, he worked for the General Electric Company in Schenectady, N.Y. There he met and fell in love with Ruth Marie Lull, a daughter of Ezra and Olive Allen Lull of Morris, N.Y. He and Ruth married on Easter Sunday, April 25, 1943.

Later, he returned with his family to  Oklahoma, where he founded The Simpson Company, which he ran until his retirement.

Although a true son of  Texas, Jack returned to Otsego County with his family every year.

For the last 15 years, he and Ruth spent summers and falls here enjoying their many friends and proudly showing off the beauty of the area to scores of visitors.

Jack is survived by his wife, Ruth; sons, Thomas of New York and David of  Oklahoma City; granddaughters, Robyn Schuff and Wendi Simpson; grandson-in-law, James Schuff; and great-grandson, Connor James Schuff, all of  Oklahoma City; a brother, Dale Simpson of Dallas,  Texas; and many nieces and nephews, including Michael and Timothy Fay, formerly of Morris, N.Y.

His easy smile and quiet generosity will be remembered by all who knew him.

Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Salvation Army.

Helen Skaza
ONEONTA — Mrs. Helen Skaza, 94, of Oneonta, died Sunday morning, March 28, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born in Germany on March 10, 1905, the daughter of Johan and Wilomina Klings.

She married George Skaza, who predeceased her.

She is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Diane and John Parks of Harleysville, Pa.; a son and a daughter-in-law, Charles and Barbara Reynolds of Franklin; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two nieces.

A service to celebrate the life of Helen Skaza will be held on Friday, April 9, 1999, at 7 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Richard Breuninger officiating.

Burial will be at the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Carl R. Tesch
MILFORD — Carl R. Tesch, 61, died suddenly at his home, Friday, April 2, 1999.

He was born in Muncie, Ind., on Feb. 7, 1938, and had moved to Milford in 1992.

He had worked for the Xerox Corp. in the Rochester area as a design engineer for 32 years before developing a severe heart condition.

He served in the United States Air Force for four years and was a graduate of Purdue University.

He loved the serene beauty of this area and the strong sense of community, which he experienced here.

Carl is survived by his wife, Carol Critz Tesch; son, Scott Tesch of Spokane, Wash.; daughter, Kathy Lynn Tesch of Rochester; two stepchildren, Ann Whitmore Phillips of Watertown and D. Robert Whitmore of Orlando, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Phyllis Thomas of Zionsville, Ind.; and six grandchildren.

There will be no formal calling hours, since he donated his body to the Albany Medical College for medical research. He will be interned in Central Square.

Friends may contact the family at his home in Milford at anytime.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 10, 1999, at noon at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.

In lieu of flowers, contributions made to the Milford Emergency Squad, Milford, N.Y. 13807, would be appreciated.
