Donald W. Fessenden
LAURENS — Donald W. Fessenden, 84, of Laurens, died Thursday morning, April 8, 1999, at his daughter's home in Laurens.

He was born June 8, 1914, in Holister, Pa., the son of Homer and Florence (Swingle) Fessenden.

Don married Mildred Ward on Aug. 20, 1935, in Mount Vision. They were married for 57 years, until Mildred's death on Dec. 24, 1992.

Don grew up in the Mount Vision area, went to Laurens High School and graduated from Diesel Mechanic School in New York City. He attended Bible Baptist Church in Mount Vision. Don was a lathe operator for Scintilla in Sidney until his retirement in 1978. After his retirement, he owned and operated Fessenden's Repair Shop until 1992.

Donald is survived by two daughters and son-in-laws, Esther and Homer Carr and Virginia and Edward Wispell of Laurens; a daughter, Gail Kroll of Unadilla; four sons and daughter-in-laws, Arthur and Kathy Fessenden of Queen Valley, Ariz., Howard and Carol Fessenden and Roy and Susan Fessenden of Laurens, Earl and Laura Fessenden of  Pennsylvania; a sister, Marjorie Kennedy of Fresno,  Calif.; and a brother, Rembert Fessenden of  Washington; a special family friend, LuLu Day of Laurens; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, April 12, 1999, at Mount Vision Cemetery, with the Rev. Christopher Ellis, pastor of the Mount Vision Bible Baptist Church, officiating.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Laurens Emergency Squad.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Gaspar W. Fuzy Sr.
MOUNT UPTON — Gaspar William Fuzy Sr., 64, of Mount Upton, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at his home.

Bill was born May 27, 1934, to Gaspar Adam and Rozalia Nyikos Fuzy In Himod, Hungary.

He married Anna T. Gaspar on Jan. 18, 1958, in Cliffside Park, N.J.

Bill was a self-employed gun and locksmith. Bill was also an avid writer and poet.

He was an adoring husband and wonderful father and grandfather.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Anna T. Fuzy of Mount Upton; daughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren, Cecilia and Lester Ward and Kenneth, Bailey and Lester Jr. of Toms River, N.J.; son and daughter-in-law and a granddaughter, Gaspar William and Randi Fuzy Jr. and Anna Marie Fuzy of Easley, S.C.; godson, Geza Fuzy Jr. and his daughter, Imola Fuzy; two brothers and sister-in-laws, Geza and Julie Fuzy of Himod, Hungary and Istvan and Anna Fuzy of Himod, Hungary; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 10, 1999, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Liberty Street, Sidney, with the Rev. Fr. Joseph Schuck officiating.

Friends may call Friday, April 9, 1999, the family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Memorial contributions may be made to Special Olympics Hungary, 2643 Diosjeno Kastely, Hungary, e-mail: Hunolimp@Nograd.Net.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., 21 Main St., Sidney.

Frank A. Gagliano
OTEGO — Mr. Frank A. Gagliano, 78, of Otego, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at the Samuel S. Stratton Veteran's Hospital, Albany after a lengthy illness.

He was born April 26, 1920, in New York City, the son of Salvatore and Providenza (Napoli) Gagliano.

He married Mary L. Pecora on Dec. 11, 1943, in Brooklyn.

In his youth Frank was a member of the Bay King's baseball team of Brooklyn and then went on to play minor league ball in Milwaukee. He was in the Civil Conservation Corp in Milwaukee at age 18. When he returned, he joined the 9th Army Air Corp in Jackson, Miss. While there he served with the Royal Netherlands Air Corp. He was Honor Guard and Security for Queen Wilamina while she was at Ft. Jackson. He served in the Invasion of Normandy during World War II, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. After the war, he was a Civil Service employee until August 1960. He then attended and graduated from Suffolk County Community College in May 1962. He then attended and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Psychology at Adelphi Suffolk University (Dowling College) in 1966. After graduation, he worked at the Bernstein Institute for Drug Addiction. Later he worked as the Director of Social Services at Brookhaven Hospital, until his retirement.

Frank and Mary then moved to the Otego area, where he helped to raise his three grandsons and his several nieces. For the last eight years they split their residence between Otego and Daytona Beach Shores.

In 1991, during his retirement he went to West Haven, Conn. to attend the VA School for the Visually Impaired for training. He then returned and counseled many of the veterans of the area.

Frank was a life member of the VFW and was a past commander. He was a 3rd Degree Knight. A member of the Otego American Legion, he was a past member of the Otego Rotary, a member of the Eagles Club and loved helping out with bingo. He was an avid bowler and loved baseball.

Frank is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Gagliano of Otego; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Ann and Frederick Enck of Otego; one sister, Rosalie Murphy of Connecticut; one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Ann Gagliano of Brooklyn; three grandchildren, Bruce and Kelly Enck of Cooperstown, Brian Enck of Otego and Barrett Enck of Otego; three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Kaitlin and Bridger; two sisters-in-law, Jody and Lee Kelley of West Islip, Long Island and Yolanda Gagliano of Brooklyn; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

Frank was predeceased by one sister, Jean Carlucci, two brothers, Anthony and John.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 12, 1999, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Robert Longobucco officiating.

Burial will be at a later date in the Otego Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will be at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 30 River St., Otego, Sunday, April 11, 1999, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. for those who wish may call.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Otego Emergency Squad or to the Otego Boy Scout Troop 16 in loving memory of Frank A. Gagliano.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

William A. Killenberger
SUMMIT — William A. Killenberger, 40, of Summit died Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County.
Killenberger

He was born Oct. 20, 1958, in Cobleskill, the son of Leo and Betty (Chambers) Killenberger.

He married Karen Fancher on Aug. 7, 1977, at the Second Baptist Church in Worcester.

Bill was a lifelong area resident. Bill worked as a pipe organ builder for Chase Organ Co. in Worcester for 22 years.

He was associated with the Second Baptist Church in Worcester.

William is survived by his wife, Karen Killenberger of Summit; three children, Melissa, Travis and Billy Killenberger of Summit; his parents, Leo and Betty Killenberger of Summit; one brother, Joseph Killenberger of Broadalbin; two sisters, Debbie Soucia of Summit and Rita Carpowich of Missouri; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; four sister-in-laws, Kathy Bleuer of Worcester, Robin Skipper of Florida, Penny Ruff of Georgia and Sue Parker of Worcester; two brother-in-laws, Michael Fancher of East Worcester and Richard Gavett of New Hampshire; and a very special friend, Sid Chase of Worcester.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, April 12, 1999, at the Second Baptist Church, Main Street, Worcester, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, pastor of the Second Baptist Church, Worcester, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Bill in trust for Melissa, Travis and Billy in care of the Second Baptist Church, P.O. Box 373, Worcester, N.Y. 12197.

Funeral arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester.

Joseph Kosier
SOUTH KORTRIGHT — Joseph Kosier, 91, of South Kortright, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at Delaware County Countryside Care Center in Delhi.

He was born July 2, 1907, in the town of Kortright, the son of Stephen and Helen (Oblinski) Kosier.

He married Bessie (Dekker) Kosier on Feb. 21, 1941. She passed away Jan. 31, 1999.

Mr. Kosier worked for E.T. VanBuren Feed Store, Hobart, for many years and then retired as a custodian and bus driver for Stamford Central School. He was a former member of the Church of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus in South Kortright. However, since his residence in Delhi he had become a communicant of Saint Peter's Church in Delhi.

Joseph is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Jean Kosier of East Meredith, Stephen and Kathleen Kosier of Cobleskill, and James and MaryAnn Kosier of Woodbourne; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother, Helen Lighte of Stamford, Frances Hoyt of Colorado and Edward Kosier of Loudonville.

The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m., Monday, April 12, 1999, at St. Peter's Church, Delhi, with Fr. Joe Manerowski celebrating the Mass. Burial will take place in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford, following the service. Calling hours will take place Sunday, April 11, 1999, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

A luncheon will be held at the East Meredith Fire House immediately following the graveside service.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or the East Meredith Fire Department.

Arrangments are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

John A. Terzo
CALABASH, N.C. — John August Terzo, 82, of Carolina Shores Parkway, Calabash, N.C., died Tuesday, April 6, 1999, at his residence.

He was born in Frankfort, N.Y. on Aug. 12, 1916, the son of the late Nicholas and Angelina Mesa Terzo.

He was a United States veteran and had retired from the Borden Chemical Co. in Bainbridge, N.Y.

John is survived by his wife, Irene Flyzik Terzo of Calabash, N.C.; son, James and Anne Terzo of Bainbridge, N.Y.; stepson, Richard Duncan of Durham, N.C.; stepdaughters, Susan and Richard Bliven of St. Cloud, Fla., and Margaret and Kourtland Koch of Charleston, S.C.; brothers, Joseph and Jespehine Terzo of Utica, N.Y., James and Theodora Terzo of Little River, S.C., and Peter and Marie Terzo of Surprise, Ariz. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Michael Terzo of Guilford, N.Y., Stephen and Shelly Terzo of Guilford, N.Y., and Emily Bliven of St. Cloud, Fla.; also several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m., Monday, April 12, 1999, in St. Brendan's Catholic Church, Shallotte, N.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in John's name may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 674 Ocean Highway, P.O. Box 830, Supply, N.C. 28462, or to St. John's Catholic Church, 34 South Main St., Bainbridge, N.Y. 13733.

Arrangements are by Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte, N.C.

John D. Van Valkenburg
UNADILLA — John D. Van Valkenburg of Wilbur Hill Road, Unadilla, died Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Van Valkenburg was born Aug. 15, 1936, in Sidney, the son of Ernest and Leola (Alger) Van Valkenburg.

He was a lifelong resident of the area. On June 27, 1964, in Unadilla, he married Mary Washburn. They shared 34 years of marriage. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Germany during the Berlin Wall conflict. He worked as a dispatcher for Dellwood Foods in Delhi.

Mr. Van Valkenburg is survived by his wife, Mary of Unadilla; his son, Ernest Van Valkenburg of Unadilla; his daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Shawn Fallon of Unadilla; five grandchildren; two brothers, James Van Valkenburg of Unadilla and June Van Valkenburg of Sidney Center; three sisters, Virginia Zurn of Syracuse, Alice Beers of Buffalo and Bertha Reynolds of Sidney Center; his mother-in-law, Marguerite Washburn of Unadilla.

He was predeceased by his brother, Clifford Van Valkenburg.

Funeral services will be held at The Joyce Funeral Home, Inc., Main Street, Unadilla on Saturday, Arpil 10, 1999, at 2 p.m.

The family will receive friends at the Joyce Funeral Home on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.

Burial will be in May at the Sidney Center Highland Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy in Mr. Van Valkenburg's memory may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Eleanor M. Weidman
GUILFORD — Eleanor M. Weidman, 71, of School Street, Guilford, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.

She was born on Sept. 15, 1927, in Sidney, the daughter of Fred and Mabel (Laidlaw) Schlafer.

On Jan. 28, 1950, in St. Joseph's Church, Oxford, she married Ernest (Pete) Weidman, who died Oct. 18, 1993.

Eleanor was an active member of the Guilford Emergency Squad for many years. She taught the American Red Cross first-aid class for many years and served on the board of the Chenango County Unit. She was a school teacher from 1961 until her retirement in 1986. She worked in the Norwich and Oxford schools and retired from the library of the Sidney Central School. She received her master's degree from Syracuse University in Library Science. She was also a member of Literacy Volunteers.

Eleanor is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Maureen Weidman of Clifton Springs and Edward and Chris Weidman of Newfield; her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and John Manzer of Palatine Bridge; her grandchildren, Sarah, Joshua and Ben Weidman and Jessica and Aaron Manzer; her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Marion Schlafer of Sherburne; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 10, 1999, beginning with a prayer service at 12:30 p.m. at the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford followed at 1 p.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by the Rev. Douglas Cunningham at St. Joseph's Church, Oxford. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.

Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford on Friday, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bainbridge-Guilford Central School Scholarship Fund or the American Red Cross.

Robert A. (Bob) Bridger Jr.
SPRINGFIELD CENTER — Mr. Robert A. (Bob) Bridger Jr. passed away Thursday, April 8, 1999 as the result of an accident.

He was born March 20, 1946 in Cooperstown, the son of Robert and Shirley (Salisbury) Bridger.

On June 24, 1966 in the Presbyterian Church, East Springfield, he married Barbara Cook. She survives.

Mr. Bridger was a 1964 graduate of Springfield Central School. He was in the U.S. Army from 1966-1967, serving in Vietnam.

Mr. Bridger had worked previously at Remington Arms until becoming owner and operator of Brider Septic Service.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Bridger of Springfield Center; two sons, Robert Bridger III of Springfield Center and Ronald Bridger and his fiancee, Robin Healy of Middleburgh; one daughter, Dawn Doyle and her husband, Tom of Cherry Valley; four grandchildren, Kenneth, Brandon and Barbara Doyle and Matthew Bridger; his parents, Robert and Shirley Bridger of East Springfield; two brothers, Richard Bridger of Milford and Gary Bridger of East Springfield; two sisters, Mrs. Raymond (Mary) Roberts of Springfield Center and Mrs. Kenneth (Sharon) Smith of Fort Plain and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bridger was predeceased by a sister, JoAnne Herklotz.

Mr. Bridger will be cremated at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.

A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, April 13, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Church, Cherry Valley with Mr. Lyman  Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Springfield Cemetery, Springfield Center.

Contributions in Mr. Bridger's memory may be made to the Springfield First Responders, Springfield Center.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.
