Marion Braun
TEMPE, Ariz. — Marion (Baldwin) Braun, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away, Sunday, May 2, 1999, in Tempe, Ariz., after a long illness.

Marion was born March 31, 1917, in Worcester, N.Y., the daughter of Floyd and Leta (Crocker) Baldwin.

She spent her early years in Worcester,  Washington, D.C., and Akron, Ohio, moving to Westford, N.Y., in her teens.

She married Stephen Braun on Aug. 11, 1934, in Milford, N.Y. They were happily married until Stephen's death in March 22, 1982. They owned and operated a dairy farm from 1934 until 1962, in Westford, until retiring and moving to Schenevus, N.Y. In 1982, Marion moved to Oneonta. From 1987 until 1994, she lived six months in Lumberton, Miss., and six months in Tempe, Ariz., each year. From 1994 until the present, she lived in Tempe, Ariz.,

Marion was a life member of the United Methodist Church, first in Westford and then in Schenevus, and was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and a member and leader of the choir. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and went through the chairs and served as deputy and district deputy. She was a member of the Otsego County Senior Citizen's Council, the Schenevus Senior Citizens, the Otsego Nutrition Council, and an organizer and member of the Schenevus Senior Citizens Kitchen Band, which performed for many nursing homes in the area. She and her husband also sang at many area nursing homes.

Marion was an excellent seamstress, sewing many of the clothes for herself, her three daughters, and for many years sewed suede moccasins and gloves for Tops Glove Factory. In later years she made and sold many craft items as well as making many craft gifts for her family.

Marion is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Francis Hosier of Oneonta, Loretta and Kenneth Pflaum of Tempe, Ariz., and Gloria and George Bozanic of Lumberton, Miss. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Sherry Pederson, Stephen Barton, Connie Lull, Lisa Bostwick-Johnson, Sheila Bostwick-Kountz, Brett Bozanic, Suzette Carpenter, Brad Bozanic and Bryan Bozanic. In addition, she is survived by 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers.

Calling hours will be held at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus, N.Y., on Thursday, May 6, 1999, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. There will be an Order of the Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Friday, May 7, at the Heller Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bonnie McGraw, pastor of the Westford and Schenevus United Methodist Churches, officiating. Burial will follow at the Westford Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing, may donate to the Alzheimer's Research, the Diabetes Research or the Otsego Heart Association.

Arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus, N.Y.

Gertrude H. Cornell
ONEONTA — Gertrude H. Cornell, 86, of Oneonta, died Monday morning, May 3, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home.

She was born Dec. 22, 1912, in Otego, the daughter of Claude J. and Lena (Enderlin) Herring.

Gertrude married Freeland R. Cornell on Oct. 3, 1936, in Oneonta. They were married for 57 years until Freeland's death on Dec. 30, 1993.

She graduated from Cornell School of Nursing, New York City, in 1933, and received a bachelor's of science degree in public health nursing from Syracuse University in 1961. Gertrude was the city of Oneonta public health nurse and then became an Otsego County public health nurse and retired in 1974. After her retirement she did volunteer work at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.

Gertrude was a past president of the Oneonta Garden Club and member of the Main Street Baptist Church.

Gertrude is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Eileen Cornell; a daughter and son-in-law, Lois and William Knowles of Sidney; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Norman Moran officiating. Burial will follow at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Gertrude's memory to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Harold A. Hammond
STAMFORD — Harold A. Hammond, 63, of Sara's Senior Care Residence, Stamford, died Monday, May 3, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born July 17, 1935, in Roxbury, the son of Kenneth and Virginia (Moshier) Hammond.

Harold was a lifelong resident of the Roxbury, Hobart and Stamford areas. He was a dairy farmer and worked for many years for the Ken All farms in Kortright. He was a former member of the Hobart Fire Department.

Harold is survived by five daughters, Debra A. DeBias of Laurens, Joyce  Jones of Hobart, Ann and Yvonne Hammond of Stamford and Teresa Hammond of Buffalo; three sons, Timothy and Harold J. Hammond of Sidney and Frederick Hammond of Delhi; five grandchildren, Amber, Jeremiah, Desiree, Breanna and Brandy; three sisters, Gloria Rose of Harpersfield, Joyce Speenburg of  Jefferson and Joan Rappleyea of Windham; two brothers, Kenneth Hammond Jr. of Gilbertsville and Frederick Hammond of Stamford; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 6, 1999, at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 West Main St., Stamford, with the Rev. Richard Elder, pastor of the Hobart United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery in Roxbury.

Friends may call at their convenience on Wednesday afternoon and evening at the funeral home. Family will be in attendance between 7 and 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Harold's memory to the R.A. Robinson Emergency Squad, Main Street, Stamford, N.Y. 12167.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Sheldon W. Hill
SAUGERTIES — Sheldon W. Hill, 84, of Spike Horn Road died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at the Thompson House, Rhinebeck.

He was born Nov. 11, 1914, in Saugerties. He was the son of the late William and Juliet Young Hill.

He formerly owned and operated a dairy farm in East Meredith. He also was a school bus driver for the South Kortright Central School District, before returning to Saugerties, where he was employed at Saugerties Coal and Lumber as a finish carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, the former Betty Lane, with whom he recently celebrated his 60th wedding anniversary; three daughters, Sharon N. Weigel of Saugerties, Sheila S. Haslam of Saugerties and Diana L. German of Saugerties; three sons, Dennis S. of Harpersfield, Ronnie S. of Saugerties and Dean E. of Pasadena, Md.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at the Plattekill Reformed Church, with the Rev. John Needham, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the Blue Mountain Cemetery, Saugerties.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Seamon-Wilsey Funeral Home, Inc., corner of John and Lafayette Streets, Saugerties.

Hillis E.  Johnson Sr.
MIDDLETOWN — Hillis E.  Johnson Sr., 86, of Middletown, died April 25, 1999, at Orange County Residential Home, Goshen.

He was born April 10, 1913, in Halcott Center, to Elwin and Eva Maxem Johnson.

He was a retired electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electical Workers. He was a member of the Bloomville Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Anje Dekker  Johnson at home; one son, Hillis and his wife, Betty, of Middletown; two daughters, Eva Winner and her husband, Jerry, and Joyce Kinman of Middletown; one brother, Malcolm of Bloomville; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one sister, Sylvia Sackett.

Funeral services were held in Middletown on April 28, 1999. Following cremation, he will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery, Bloomville.

Donald L. Linabery
FRANKLIN — Donald L. Linabery, 78, of R.D. No. 1, Franklin, died suddenly, Saturday, May 1, 1999, at his home from a heart attack.

He was born on Aug. 6, 1920, in Montrose, Pa., the son of Glenn and Mae (Otis) Linabery.

He was married to Sonja Wendelen on Nov. 14, 1975, in Franklin.

He was raised and educated in the Montrose, Pa., area, where he held various jobs, before enlisting in the United States Army and serving combat time in Italy and North Africa, during World War II.

He has been a resident of Franklin for the last 31 years and was a retired employee of Amphenol Corp. of Sidney.

He loved life and was an avid boater, fisherman, hunter, trapper and snowmobiler.

Donald is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Sunnie (Sonja) Linabery of Franklin; two daughters, Patricia Hulbert of Oneonta and Donita Dietsch of Hamburg; a stepdaughter, Amanda Heaney-Smith of Hackensack, N.J.; two stepsons, Brian Heaney of Bainbridge and Craig Heaney of Franklin; his mother-in-law, Greta Wendelen of Honesdale, Pa.; a sister, Dorothy Snow of Montrose, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Robert, Shannon and Kristin Hulbert, Krista, Adam, and Zachary Dietsch and Nevada Heaney; and nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, who loved him.

He was predeceased by a sister, Leola Knight.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, May 10, 1999, at the Franklin United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lyle Linder, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin, at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.

The family graciously declines flowers and ask that memorial contributions be made to the Franklin Emergency Squad or to a charity of one's choice.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.

Margaret P. Morris
COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Margaret P. Morris, 81, formerly of Grove Street, died Monday morning, May 3, 1999, at The Meadows.

She was born Catherine Margaret, on March 7, 1918, in Pontiac, Mich., a daughter of John and Myrtle (Connell) Postle.

She married Harold "Hike" Morris on July 4, 1941, in Columbia, S.C.

At the age of 2, Marg and her family moved to Syracuse. They later moved to Toddsville, and finally settled in Cooperstown. She graduated from Cooperstown Central School with the Class of 1935. Following her marriage, she and her husband managed the family plumbing business, George H. Morris and Son.

She was of the Baptist faith. A former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cooperstown Veterans Club, Marg was an avid baseball fan, enjoyed playing cards with her friends and spent many wonderful hours playing bingo at the old Redmen's Hall and recently at The Meadows.

Marg is survived by five nephews, Michael Morris of Santa Barbara,  Calif., Ricks Morris of Springfield Center, Stephen Morris of Willow City,  Texas, Perry Chapman of Boston, Mass., and Dennis Chapman of Utica.

She was predeceased by her son, Timothy Morris, who died on April 11, 1965.

Marg's family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service, which will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 1999, in the Chapel at The Meadows, with the Rev. Donald Phillie, chaplain at The Meadows, officiating. Burial will be at the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to the Cooperstown Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 322, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Ellen Mednansky
COOPERSTOWN — A graveside service for Ellen Mednansky, who died March 25, 1999, will be Wednesday, May 5, 1999, in the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery at 11 a.m.

Ellen was born Sept. 17, 1922, in New York City, a daughter of Paul and Eva (Kovacovic) Mednansky.

Committal services will be conducted by the Rev. John C. Young.

Arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Irving A. Decker
GARRATTSVILLE — Irving A. Decker, 102, formerly of Garrattsville died Monday, May 3, 1999, at the Chase Memorial Nursing Home in New Berlin.

He was born Dec. 3, 1896, in North Franklin, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Decker.

He was married to Edna Madison on May 22, 1918, in North Franklin. She died Nov. 15, 1976.

In 1977, he moved to Garattsville. In his younger years, he had operated a garage and a dairy farm and also operated a kennel, where he raised and sold a variety of different breeds of small dogs.

He was a member and former Sunday School teacher and Sunday School superintendent of the Second Baptist Church of Edmeston for many years.

Irving is survived by his son, Roger H. Decker of West Winfield; four granddaughters, Mrs. Judy Matson of Garrattsville, Mrs. Donna Gregory of Garrattsville, Mrs. Theresa Mayne of Burlington Flats and Linda Button of Pittsfield; two grandsons, James Brimmer of Garrattsville and David Decker of West Winfield; two nieces, Ruth Sturgess of Hobart and Evelyn Dauchy of Burlington Flats; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Bernice Brimmer and a son, Ernest Decker.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at 7 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, with the Rev. Jay Henderson officiating. Committal services and burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Edmeston Union Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 5 p.m. Wednesday until service time at 7 p.m.

The family would like to express their greatful appreciation for the love and concern shown and given to Irving during his stay at the Chase Nursing Home.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Frances L. Dibble
STAMFORD — Frances L. Dibble, 92, of Stamford, passed away Monday, May 3, 1999, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

She was born Sept. 15, 1906, in Stamford, the daughter of Richard and Catherine (Driscoll) Lynch.

Mrs. Dibble was a devoted wife and mother. Her husband, Perry C. Dibble, predeceased her on April 10, 1992. They were married in Delhi on April 26, 1924.

She was an active member of the Stamford Methodist Church, having been the oldest surviving member of that congregation.

Two sons survive her, Roderick A. Dibble of  Texas and Gordon Dibble of London, England; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

One daughter, Pauline Axtell, predeceased her.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, May 7, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, with the Rev. Waylen Bray officiating. Calling hours will take place Thursday, May 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be following the service in Stamford Cemetery, Stamford.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Stamford Emergency Squad, Stamford.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.
