Alois Fink
HOBART — Alois Fink, 76, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999, at home in Hobart.

He was born Feb. 27, 1923, in Yugoslavia, the son of Mathias Fink and Rosa (Hutter) Fink.

He married Hildegard (Mader) Fink in England on April 2, 1955.

He owned and operated his own delicatessen in Manhattan and Queens. Mr. Fink moved to Hobart after retiring in 1987.

Mr. Fink is survived by his wife; one daughter, Caroline Boneta of Queens; two grandchildren, Amanda Boneta and Denise Boneta, both of Queens; one brother, Joseph Fink of New Jersey; and one sister, Anna Schemitsch of Staten Island.

Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, 1999, at the Church of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus, with the Rev. Fr. John Burns officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford. Calling hours will be Friday, May 7, at MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, from 7 to 9 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

Contributions in his memory can be made to the Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are by the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Gary D. Beardsley Sr.
TROY — Gary D. Beardsley Sr., 59, of 109th Street, died Friday, May 7, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital after a short illness.

He was born in  Jefferson and was a graduate of Worcester High School and Utica Community College.

Mr. Beardsley was the son of Dorothy Schleichter Austin of Worcester and the late John Beardsley, and was the husband of Eleanor M. Harris Harbour Beardsley.

Mr. Beardsley was the owner and operator of the Cobleskill Commission Cattle Auction for many years, then he went to work for the Unifirst Corp. in Watervliet for 22 years before he became an independent trucker working for Bennett Trucking in McGowan, Ga.

Mr. Beardsley was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lansingburgh.

Mr. Beardsley is survived by his wife, and mother; seven loving sons, Carl Beardsley of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Dennis Beardsley of Westfield, Mass., Robert T. Harbour Jr. of Godley,  Texas, Brian M. Harbour of Schenectady, Bruce J. Harbour of Weathford,  Texas, Wayne J. Harbour of Troy and William F. Harbour of Latham; three daughters, Joan Martelle of Delmar, Dalemarie "Harbour" Mull of Cohoes and Deborah "Harbour" Loe of Ft. Worth,  Texas. He was the beloved grandfather of Nicholas J. Martone and Justin T. Reed of Cohoes, Wade, David and Elizabeth Harbour of Godley,  Texas, Richard Zinn, Jason and Michael Loe, all of Ft. Worth,  Texas, Rachel, Clarisse Harbour and Michael Bianca of Schenectady, Amanda and Jessica Harbour of Weathford,  Texas, Adam Harbour of Troy, and Megan Martelle of Delmar.

Funeral service will be held Monday morning, May 10, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., corner of 115th Street and Fourth Avenue, Lansingburgh. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Troy. Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Those who wish may make donations to American Cancer Society, Rens. County Unit, 1450 Western Ave., Albany, N.Y. 12203.

Mary E. Bennett
NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Bennett, 71, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and  Jefferson, N.Y., died Tuesday, May 4, 1999, at the Bert Fish Memorial Hospital in New Smyrna Beach, Fla.

She was born Dec. 1, 1927, in Edmonton, Canada, and was the daughter of Henry and Johanna (Kresse) Winklhofer.

She married Gordon L. Bennett on May 22, 1981.

For many years, Betty was an office secretary for the Sears Company in Oneonta, N.Y.

Betty is survived by her husband, Gordon L. Bennett of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and  Jefferson, N.Y.; her children and their spouses, Henry and Gail Rupp of St. Cloud, Fla., and Thomas and Annie Rupp of Clermont, Fla.; her grandchildren, Holly, Jennifer, Amanda, Angela, Christina and Michael Rupp; a great-grandchild, Kameron Rupp. She is also survived by a brother, Henry Winklhofer of Cairo, and a sister, JoAnn Mullaney of Cairo, three dear friends, Holly Augi, Doris Keogh and Lena Chase.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at 3 p.m. in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta, with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor of St. Mary's Church, officiating.

Friends may call Monday evening at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to charity of choice.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Ethel P. Hoyt
WALTON — Ethel P. Hoyt, 89, formerly of the Walton area and of East Meredith, died Thursday evening, May 6, 1999, at her home.

She was born on April 21, 1910, in Methel. She was the daughter of Ferris D. and Elise Beauperthuy Palmer.

She married Walter G. Hoyt on June 10, 1933, in Mundale. He predeceased her on Jan. 6, 1985.

She was a graduate of Walton High School and the Walton Teachers Training Class. She taught school in the area rural schools until her marriage. She and her husband, Walter, operated a dairy farm and maple syrup business on East Brook Road, Walton, until their retirement in 1980.

She was a member of the Mundale Church and the Mundale Grange. She later became a member of the West Delhi Presbyterian Church. She and her husband also founded the Jolly Farmers 4-H Club in 1947, and remained active leaders for many years.

She was residing in East Meredith for the past four years.

Ethel is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Janet Hoyt of Bovina Center; a daughter, Sandra Moody of Delhi; six grandchildren and their spouses, Lorraine and Brian Francisco, Thomas and Norma Hoyt, Penny and Roger Hamilton, Michael and Annette Moody, Karen and Robert Mellott, Cathy and Donald Goebel Jr.; and 10 great-grandchildren, Meranda, Chesley, Jordan Hoyt, Devin Hamilton, Wayne, Kimberly, Donald Moody, Matthew and Cheryl Mellott, Corey Miglianti; and also many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Lyon Bros.-Way, Inc., Funeral Home, corner of North and Delaware streets, Walton, on Monday, May 10, 1999, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Bert More officiating. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery, Walton.

There will be no calling hours.

Carolyn A. Laures
ONEONTA — Carolyn A. (Carrie) Laures, 88, of Oneonta died Friday, May 7, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.
She was born June 17, 1910, in Clifton Park, the daughter of Joseph and Frances (Gaida) Urbon.

She married Harvey E. Laures on Feb. 12, 1934, in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta. Mr. Laures died on March 26, 1991.

In 1972, Carrie retired as a school teacher at the Laurens Central School, where she taught for 29 years.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church and its Altar Guild. She was a former member of the Oneonta Business Women's Club. Carrie enjoyed golf, and was a former member of the Woodhaven Golf Club.

Carrie is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Marcellus and Mary Laures of Ballston Lake; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyn and Ben Wilcox of Bainbridge and Mary Laures of Santa Rosa,  Calif.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Crandall of Whittier,  Calif.; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, May 10, 1999, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Robert Longobucco, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Friends may call Sunday evening at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Mildred C. Schidzick
HINMAN HOLLOW — Committal services and burial for Mildred C. Schidzick, 89, of Hinman Hollow, who died on Jan. 28, 1999, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery, with the Rev. Paul R. Messner, pastor of the Hartwick Seminary Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Doris R. Christiana
COOPERSTOWN — Committal services and burial for Doris R. Christiana, 84, of Fernleigh Drive in Cooperstown, who died on March 28, 1999, will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at the Lakewood Cemetery in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Stephen J. Quinlan, co-pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Cooperstown, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Bruce J. Richards
COOPERSTOWN — Bruce J. Richards, 72, of Hade Hollow Road, Cooperstown died suddenly, Saturday evening, May 8, 1999, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

He was born on Jan 30, 1927, at the Thanksgiving Hospital in Cooperstown, a son of Jesse A. and Bernice (Kane) Richards.

He married Erna D. Hovik on May 12, 1974, in Middlefield.

Bruce was a lifelong resident of Cooperstown and was a graduate of the Cooperstown High School. Following high school, he went to work for the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, where he was employed in the area of lawn and grounds maintenance. Towards the end of his career at the hospital, he served as a security guard, retiring in 1973. In the years following his retirement, he did landscaping for many Cooperstown residents.

Strong in the Baptist faith, Bruce was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Cooperstown, was one of the first members of the Native Sons in Cooperstown, was a member of the Sons of Norway, and was a dedicated member of the National Rifle Association. He had a great love of the outdoors and was happiest in the woods, surrounded by nature.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 25 years, Erna; two daughters, Deborah Lints and her life companion, Ken Knutsen of Central Bridge and Mary Killmeier and her husband, Albert of Cherry Valley; one stepdaughter, Katrina Cade and her husband, Stanley of Roseboom; three stepsons, Theodore Bergene and his wife, Mary of Oswego, Gregory Bergene and his wife, Susan of Cooperstown and Steven Bergene and his wife, Jeannette of Apex, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Carl Perry and his wife, Dorothy of Florida; a special friend, Grandma Zaugg; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by one brother, Melvin D. Perry Sr., who died on Jan. 13, 1984.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at the First Baptist Church of Cooperstown, with the Rev. Douglas Deer, pastor, officiating. A reception will follow downstairs in the church's fellowship hall. Burial will be private in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.

At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.

Expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of the First Baptist Church of Cooperstown, 19 Elm St., Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326, the Cooperstown Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 322, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326 or the National Rifle Association, 11250 Waples Hill Road, Fairfax, Va. 22030.

Marvin F. Reynolds
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Marvin F. Reynolds, 90, of Division Street, died Saturday night, May 8, 1999, in Folts Homes, Herkimer.

He was born in Broadalbin on March 25, 1909, son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Reynolds.

Marvin was raised and educated in Gloversville and in 1935, moved to Richfield Springs.

On June 21, 1931, he married Anna M. Sweet in St. Patrick's Church, Johnstown.

An honorably discharged United States Navy veteran, he served our country during World War II. He was employed by Remington Rand, Univac and later went to work as a Rural Routeman out of the Richfield Springs Post Office, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of the Richfield Springs American Legion and the Richfield Springs Fish and Game Club.

Marvin is survived by his wife of 67 years, Anna; a daughter, Julia and her husband, Daniel Skramko of Eaton; a brother, Burt Reynolds of Mohawk; four grandchildren, Daniel R. Skramko, Carol Ann Malone, Sharon Kane and Marcia Skramko; six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at 11 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, with the Rev. David Oertel, chaplain of the Folts Homes, officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls. Calling hours will be Tuesday, from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donation may be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Verna G. Ross
SIDNEY CENTER — Verna G. Ross, 86, of Sidney Center passed away Saturday, May 8, 1999, in Vestal.

She was born Nov. 11, 1912, to the late Louis J. and Mabel (Tiffany) Heinmen in Roscoe.

Verna married Richard E. Ross of Feb. 11, 1930, in Walton.

Verna is survived by her husband of 70 years, Richard E. Ross of Sidney Center; three sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Florence Ross of Bainbridge, Lawrence and Carolyn Ross of Vestal and Allen and Kathryn Ross of Sidney Center; brothers-in-law, Raymond and Louise Ross of Franklin and Kingsley and Dorothy Ross of Coventry; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is predeceased by her son, Louis Ross, and a brother, Raymond Heinmen.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at 1 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21, Main St., Sidney. Friends may call today after 2 p.m.. The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Sidney Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in name of Verna G. Ross to Lourdes Hospice, 169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., 21 Main St., Sidney.

Earl Glenn Wilkinson
EDMESTON — Earl Glenn Wilkinson, 73, of Edmeston died Saturday, May 8, 1999, at his home in Edmeston.

He was born Dec. 11, 1925, in Litchfield, the son of Grove and Alice Nellie (Morris) Wilkinson.

He married Emma Lou Burch on Oct. 2, 1949, in Milford. She predeceased him Oct. 25, 1980.

Earl had been employed by the town of Burlington, and was a past member of the Burlington Fish and Game Club. He enjoyed his family, hunting and fishing, and working with his hands. He along with Mr. Karl Lochner helped build the Burlington Town Barn, which was recently destroyed by fire.

Earl is survived by his sons and their spouses, Earl and Pat Wilkinson of Edmeston and Garry and Kim Wilkinson of Virginia; six grandchildren, Daniel E., Earl J., Rebecca M., Jeremiah (Bo), Benjamin N., and Brandy K. Wilkinson; two sisters, Esther Looman and Nellie Sprague; his sister-in-law, Leiah Dougherty; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by six brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston, with the Rev. William Highfield, officiating. Calling hours are Tuesday, May 11, 1999, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Interment will be at Edmeston Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Earl's memory to the Edmeston Emergency Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Julia MacKenzie
EDMESTON — Graveside funeral services and committal for Julia MacKenzie, who died Jan. 26, 1999, will be held Saturday, May 8, 1999, at 1 p.m. at  Taylor Hill Cemetery in Edmeston, with the Rev. John Buskey officiating.

Funeral arrangements are by the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.
