MILFORD — A committal service for Richard J. Dutcher, who died Jan. 9, 1999, will be Saturday, May 8, 1999, at 9 a.m. in the Milford Cemetery, with Fr. John R. Roos, pastor of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Mildred E. Kennedy
MILFORD — A committal service for Mildred E. Kennedy, who died Feb. 24, 1999, will be Saturday, May 8, 1999, at 3 p.m. in the Milford Cemetery, with the Rev. Nancy Kozlowski, pastor of the Milford United Methodist Church, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Ira Grice
COOPERSTOWN — A committal service for Ira Grice, who died Jan. 29, 1999, will be Saturday, May 8, 1999, at 11 a.m. in the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery, with the Rev. Eileen Kellogg-Cornwell, pastor of the Fly Creek United Methodist Church, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Daniel Dwight Mayer
WETHERSFIELD, Conn. — Daniel Dwight Mayer, 55, of Wethersfield, Conn., beloved husband of Martha (McCullough) Mayer, died suddenly at home on Thursday, May 6, 1999.

He was born in Ann Arbor, Mich., in 1943. He had resided in Wethersfield, Conn., for seven years. Previously, he lived in Cooperstown, N.Y., Virginia and Michigan.

Dan was a self-employed museum consultant; recently he completed design and installation of a permanent exhibit at the Keeney Memorial Cultural Center for the Wethersfield Historical Society. At the time of his death, he was working on projects in Lebanon and Torrington, Conn.

He routinely provided design and installation services for the Freedom Forum's Newseum exhibit space in New York, N.Y. Institutions with which he consulted included the Connecticut Historical Society, Vermont Folk Life Center, Delaware County, (New York) Historical Association, Cedarburg (Wisonsin) Cultural Center and an international cultural center in Hartford.

Dan completed the graduate program in museum studies at the State University College at Oneonta. Subsequently, while an employee of the New York Historical Association at the Farmers' Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y., he was also on the faculty for the graduate program.

As a consultant, he contributed to exhibits at the Eckley ( Pennsylvania) Miners Village Museum; Manattuck Museum, Waterbury, Conn.; and organizations in Wisconsin, Michigan and Mississippi. Under programs for the National Park Service he worked at the Scranton Iron Furnaces and in Seattle for the Historic American Engineering Record. He designed and directed construction/installation of the Visitors Center at Albany, N.Y. under the Urban Cultural Park Program and the New York State Cheese Museum at the Erie Canal Village in Rome, N.Y.

A member of the American Association of Museums, he was a founding member of the Society for Industrial Archaeology.

Dan was an avid rail fan. He held memberships with the National Model Railroad Association and various regional rail associations.

Beside his wife, he leaves a sister, Nancy Grau of Chelsea, Mich.; two nieces, Karen Girard of Antioch,  Calif., and Sarah Sloan of Cape Coral, Fla.; and numerous friends across America.

Memorial donations may be made to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, 1785 Massachusetts Ave. NW,  Washington, D.C. 20036.

Edward Timer
MOUNT VISION — Mr. Edward Timer, 86, of Mount Vision, passed away Sunday, May 9, 1999, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was born Dec. 15, 1912, in New York City, the son of William and Hulda (Manke) Timer.

On May 9, 1943, he married Lillian E. Alpaugh in Cherry Valley; she survives.

Ed was raised and educated in Laurens and had lived in Mount Vision since 1950.

He had been the owner of Timer's Garage in Laurens, worked at Scintilla in Sidney, owned and operated the Timer Farm in Mount Vision, was a self-employed general contractor and was the owner of Timer's Sawmill in Mount Vision.

Ed was a member of the Mount Vision Methodist Church, former member of the Mount Vision Fire Department, Otego Valley Grange, and the Laurens Masonic Lodge.

For the past five years Ed had been a resident of The Meadows. The Timer family wishes to express their deepest appreciation and gratitude for the excellent care he received from the dedicated and loving staff of The Meadows.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Lillian; his daughter, Marian, and her husband, Robert Jeffery, of San Francisco,  Calif.; two sons, Raymond and his wife, Melanie, of Dade City, Fla. and Robert and his wife, Martha-Jean, of Roseboom; three grandchildren, Adam Timer, Alex Timer and Katie Timer; two brothers, Daniel of Mount Vision and Albert and his wife, Emily, of Laurens; three sisters, Freida Kostbar of Oneonta, Bertha and her husband, Robert George, of Garrattsville and Wanda Karlen of Augusta, Maine; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeaceased by a brother, William; a sister, Elsa Squires; and a grandson, Jason Edward Timer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 13, 1999, at the Ottman Funeral Home, 22 Church St., Cherry Valley, with Mr. Lyman  Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Vision Cemetery, Mount Vision.

Calling hours will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 12, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ed's memory may be made to The Meadows Activity Fund, 140 County Highway 33 W., Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326 or the Laurens Emergency Squad, Laurens, N.Y. 13796.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Anita M. Pett Towne
HERKIMER — Anita M. Pett Towne, 98, of 690 West German St., formerly of Schuyler Lake, died on Sunday morning, May 9, 1999, in Valley Health Services Inc.

She was born on Feb. 25, 1901, in Schuyler Lake, a daughter of the late Adelmar G. and Grace A. Engell Morey.

A lifelong area resident, she was educated in Schuyler Lake and Oneonta Normal School.

On Sept. 4, 1924, she married Lynn D. Pett in Cooperstown. He died on Dec. 20, 1955. She later married Leigh C. Towne in Herkimer on Jan. 1, 1960. He preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1971.

For 25 years she worked as a time clerk for the Remington Rand Company, retiring in 1964.

She was a member of the Old Stone Church — Schuyler Lake, Colonel Marinus Willett Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Colonist, Descendants of Governor William Bradford of Plymouth Colony, Daughters of the Colonial Wars, Daughters of Colonial Clergy, Daughters of Colonial Governors, New England Women Innkeepers, Mayflower Descendants, Daughters of the Nile, New York Court, NSWD A & HAC, Fly Creek Valley Grange No. 790, Arbutus Chpater No. 317 Order of the Eastern Star and the Exeter Historical Society.

Surviving are one stepdaughter, Harriett Hauser of Big Bear Lake,  Calif.; a special niece, Glenice T. Branigan of Schuyler Lake; a nephew and a niece.

She was predeceased by a brother, Harry Morey, two sisters, Vera Bennett and Lepha Tuller and a stepdaughter, Thelma Foster.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, May 11, 1999, at 11 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 W. James St., Richfield Springs, with the Rev. Elizabeth Strong officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Center Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Valley Health Services Inc. or the Old Stone Church, Schuyler Lake. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Arthur G. Gifford
ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — Arthur G. Gifford, 83, of Breezeway Drive, Ormond Beach, Fla., died Saturday, May 8, 1999, at Ormond in the Pines.

He was born in New York City. He moved to Florida in 1979, from Mamaroneck, N.Y.

He was a former assistant vice president of transportation and administration of the Marine Division for Bethlehem Steel. Following retirement from Bethlehem Steel, he was manager of admistration for Marine Transport of New York City, N.Y.

He was a member of the St. James' Episcopal Church, Shippers Advisory Group of the National Maritime Administration for the Promotion of U.S. Flagship International Shipping, former captain of the Halstead Manor Engine and Hose Company No. 4 in Mamaronek, N.Y., where he helped to organize the first rescue squad. He was one of the first volunteer fire department members to become an E.M.T. in the state of New York. He was also a member of the North Peninsula Volunteer Fire Department in Ormond-by-the-Sea for 15 years, where he started the annual Santa Claus ride with all of the north peninsula fire and rescue equipment each year; a member and past master of the Masonic Lodge in Harrison, N.Y.; past patron for the Harrison, N.Y., Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star; member of the Ormond Beach Masonic Lodge No. 326; and former past president of the High 12 in Daytona Beach.

He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Arthur is survived by his wife of 61 years, Emily; three daughters, Dawn Minette of Oneonta, N.Y., Barbara Lupino of Winter Springs, Fla., and Elizabeth Falter of Winter Springs, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Frank J. Warren
MORRIS — Frank J. Warren, 100, formerly of Morris, died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at The Meadows in Middlefield.

He was born in Brooklyn on June 30, 1898, the son of Henry Clay Warren and Mary (Burns) Warren.

He was first married to Madeline in June of 1931, and she died in December of 1938. He was then married to Catherine in April of 1943, and she died Jan. 31, 1996.

He was employed with the United States Postal Service at the New Lots Station until his retirment in 1954. He was then employed by several architectural firms after his retirement from the postal service.

He served his country during World War I in the United States Army.

He and his wife had resided in the Morris area since 1965.

He was a member of the American Legion, the Morris Grange and the Butternuts Valley Senior Citizens Club.

Frank is survived by two sons, Robert Warren and his wife, Veronica, of Smithtown and Allen Warren and his wife, Margaretta, of Ft. Worth,  Texas; two stepsons, Donald Link and his wife, Clair, of Mollusk, Va., and Kenneth Link and his wife, Barbara, of Davie, Fla.; grandchildren, Robert John Warren, Linda Hatanaka, Christopher Warren, Deborah Warren, Douglas Warren, Bonnie Neal, Steven Warren, Lori Stevenson, Denise Warren, Donald Link Jr., Diana Garbey, David Link, Raymond Link, Keith Link, Cindy Lopes, Christopher Link and Julie Norman; and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 13, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, with the Rev. Morris Dwyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery in Queens on Friday, May 14, 1999, at 1 p.m. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home, Morris.

Anthony Augustoni
STAMFORD — Anthony R. Augustoni, 83, of 58 Prospect St., Stamford, died Sunday, May 9, 1999, at his residence.

He was born March 17, 1916, in the Bronx, the son of Carlo and Luise (Weiss) Augustoni.

He married Mary Ryan on Nov. 23, 1946, in the Bronx.

Tony was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II. For the past 20 years he lived in Stamford, moving there from the Bronx. Tony was employed by the MTA Bus Lines of New York City from the early 1930s until he retired in 1976. He then became a bus driver for the Stamford Central School for 17 years. He was a member of the Lt. Harry Pruden Jr. VFW Post in Stamford.

Tony is survived by his wife, Mary, of Stamford; two sisters, Margaret Mangiapane of New Jersey and Virginia Cairo of Kerhonkson; three brothers, Elmer and Robert Augustoni of New Jersey and Vincent L. Augustoni of Boco Raton, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Stamford, with the Rev. Joseph Cebula, pastor, presiding.

There will be no calling hours.

The family would appreciate that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made in Tony's memory to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Helen M. Follett
COOPERSTOWN — Helen M. Follett, 76, most recently of Cooperstown and formerly of Oneonta, died Monday, May 10, 1999, at The Meadows.

She was born Jan. 25, 1923, in Oneonta, the daughter of Richard and Mary (Farrell) Durkin.

She married Harold W. Follett Jr. on April 15, 1950, and he died on Aug. 25, 1974.

A lifelong area resident, Helen was a homemaker, along with being a member of St. Mary's Church.

Helen is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard J. and Carol Follett of Oneonta; two grandchildren, Debra Follett of New York City and Shannon Follett of Oneonta; and one nephew, John Klein of Oneonta.

She was predeceased by a brother and a sister, Joseph Durkin and Mary Klein.

A private graveside service will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons, at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Catherine Davis
TRENTON, Fla. — Catherine "Kay" Viola (Close) Davis, 75, of Trenton, Fla., a longtime Delaware County resident, died Friday, May 7, 1999, at North Regional Hospital, Gainsville, Fla.

Catherine was born May 15, 1923, to the late Eldon and Nattie (VanKuren) Close of Margaretville.

She was a graduate of Margaretville High School.

She married F. Eugene Davis on Feb. 14, 1942. She worked at Astrocom Electronics until retiring in 1969.

Surviving besides her husband are two sons, Charles Davis of Grand Gorge and Keath Davis of Walton; two sisters, Dorothy Truesdell of Oneonta and Betty Utter of Margaretville; a brother, Gilbert Close of Downsville; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at the Advent Christian Church, Margaretville, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, 1999, with the Rev. Hayden Walsh officiating.

John Schemm Jr.
MILFORD — Committal services and burial for John Schemm Jr., 71, of Milford, who died March 13, 1999, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 14, 1999, at St. Mary's Cemetery in Index, with the Rev. John R. Roos, pastor of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown, officiating.

Full military honors will be accorded by the Sgt. Walter P. Eggleston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7128 of Cooperstown.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Evelyn M. Conrow
SIDNEY — Graveside services for Evelyn M. Conrow, 78, of Sidney, will be held Wednesday, May 12, 1999, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David Masland, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Sidney, and the Rev. Janet Kitchen officiating.

Services will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., 21 Main St., Sidney.
