Jane C. Bannon
ONEONTA — Jane C. Bannon, of Oneonta, died Thursday, May 13, 1999, at the Bassett Healthcare Center in Cooperstown, from complications due to a heart-lung disease.

She was born in Glens Falls, the daughter of Lawrence and Margaret (Boullion) Callahan.

She married Leo R. Bannon on March 25, 1951. He died on July 20, 1993.

Jane was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Glens Falls, and attended Adirondack Business College.

For a period of time she was employed by the Chamber of Commerce in Syracuse, and while living in Oneonta for the past 40 years, she was a receptionist for the Leo Bannon Opticians Inc., a business operated by her late husband.

Jane was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Fox Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, for which she volunteered for many years. She and her husband were longtime members of the Oneonta Country Club. Her passionate hobby was playing bridge and was considered an excellent player.

Jane will be sorely missed by all.

Jane is survived by two daughters and their spouses, Joan B. and John Blood of Londonderry, N.H., and Karen B. and Steven Vickers of Norwell, Mass.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey B. and Stephanie J. Blood and Brian B. and Jacquelin B. Vickers; a sister, Claire Cooney of Glens Falls; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, May 17, 1999, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Robert Longobucco, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Mary's Cemetery, Glens Falls.

Friends may call Sunday, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Mid New York, 1249 Front St., Suite 105, Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Margaret Graig
DAVENPORT — Margaret (Peg) Graig, 82, of Davenport, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 11, 1999.

She was born Aug. 12, 1916, the daughter of Bertha A. Ames and Wesson B. Clark.

She and her late husband the late John L. Graig were married July 1, 1946, in Davenport. He died Jan. 3, 1989.

A graduate of St. Lawrence (BA) and Syracuse University with a master's in Library Science. A teacher for 33 years, 31 of those years were at Stamford Central School. She was president of the Charlotte Valley Central School Board of Education, a member for more than 50 years of the Delaware Rebekah Lodge, and she enjoyed bowling, politics, traveling and a summer home at Henderson Harbor.

Margaret is survived by a brother, Paul (Barbara) Clark of Las Vegas, Nev.; a sister, Elizebeth (Betty) and Dr. Elbert W. Phillips of Henderson Harbor; and several nieces and nephews.

Two brothers, Walter Clark, a World War II fighter pilot killed in action in the South Pacific, and Clifford Clark, a World War II veteran of the invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge; and sister, Dorothy Moore, who died July 4, 1998, predeceased her.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, May 15, 1999, at 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel of St. Theresa The Little Flower, Davenport Center, with the Rev. Fr. John Burns, officiating. The Rev. Walter Hillis, retired, will speak at the funeral home and at the service at the church. Calling hours will be Friday, May 14, 1999, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be at Davenport Cemetery.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Catskill Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport.

Richard Schneiderman
BATESVILLE, Va. — Dr. Richard Steven Schneiderman of Batesville, Va., passed away peacefully in his sleep April 26, 1999.

He was born June 27, 1948, in New Jersey, he was the son of Dorothy and Rubin Schneiderman, previously of Syosset, N.Y. His mother preceded him in death and his father resides in Charlottesville, Va.

A loving father and husband, Dr. Schneiderman received his doctorate from Binghamton University, N.Y., with a major in art history. In the past, he served as museum director at the North Carolina Museum of Art and the Georgia Museum of Art, and as curator of prints and drawings at the Georgia Museum of Art.

Dr. Schneiderman most recently served the Charlottesville, Va., area American Red Cross as director of development and as a volunteer on the Disaster Action Team. He also worked as a fund-raiser with the  Jefferson Area Board of Aging.

Kathy Schneiderman is the former Kathy Matteson, daughter of Doug and Jeanette Matteson of Franklin, N.Y.

Richard is survived by his wife, Kathy Schneiderman of Batesville, Va.; sons, Matthew of Ogaki, Japan, Adam in college in Bristol, Va., and Justin in college in Worcester, Mass; and a daughter, Jessica of Batesville, Va.

Paul E. Odell
HOMOSSASSA SPRINGS, Fla. — Paul E. Odell, 40, of Homossassa Springs, Fla., passed away Sunday, May 9, 1999, at 7 Rivers Hospital in Crystal River, Fla.

He is formerly from Glen Burnie Road, Delhi, N.Y., and Thornwood, N.Y.

Paul worked for several construction companies and was also employed by the Delhi Telephone Company.

He married Penny Shampine in October 1990, in Delhi, N.Y.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife, Penny; his mother, Charlotte Odell; a sister, Joanne, and her husband, Jerry Decker; mother and father-in-law, William and Martha Shampine and family; twin nephews, Austin and Jerid Goss; and many other nieces and nephews; along with very dear lifelong friends, Joseph and Stacey Calbi.

He was predeceased by his father, Clifford Odell, in 1994, and his grandmother in 1995.

Cremation and service was done by Hooper Funeral Home, Homossassa Springs, Fla.

Contributions can be made in Paul's memory to the American Diabetes Association or by one's choice.

August Maul
WESTFORD — August Maul, 91, of Westford, died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, suddenly at his residence.

He was born March 7, 1908, in West Heim, Germany, the son of Andreas and Anna (Reichel) Maul.

He married Sophie Kalbfuss on May 10, 1951. She predeceased him on May 3, 1985.

Gus moved to the United States in 1928, then in 1942, he moved to Westford.

He was a pastry chef at the Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown for many years and was a member of the Schenevus United Methodist Church.

He is survived by a son, Dr. George A. and his wife, Carole Maul, of Melbourne, Fla.; a daughter, Marion Peter of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Westford; five grandchildren, Chris, Lynne, Bruce, Anne and Patricia; five great-grandchildren; a niece; and a cousin.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, May 16, 1999, from noon-3 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus.

A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 17, 1999, at the United Methodist Church, Main Street, Schenevus.

The Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta will officiate.

Burial will follow at the Elk Creek Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in loving memory of Gus to the Schenevus United Methodist Church, Main Street, Schenevus, N.Y. 12155.

Funeral arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus.

Florence Ainslie
COOPERSTOWN — Committal services and burial for Mrs. Florence Anna Ainslie, 65, of Cooperstown and formerly of Springfield, who died March 12, 1999, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, in Springfield Center Cemetery with the Rev. Eileen Kellogg Cornwall, pastor of Fly Creek United Methodist Church, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Stanley Gergich
GLOVERSVILLE — A graveside committal service for Stanley Gergich will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 17, 1999, at the St. Joseph's Cemetery in Worcester with the Rev. Edward Ryan officiating.

Military honors will be presented by the Worcester American Legion Post 1584.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

Vito (Bill) Chiaramonte
FLEISCHMANNS — Vito (Bill) Chiaramonte, 59, of Fleischmanns died May 15, 1999 at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

He was born Jan. 6, 1930 in Brooklyn, the son of Charles and Mary (Coppa) Chiaramonte.

He married Mary Tine on Sept. 1, 1959 in Long Island.

He was a construction worker for Union No. 66 located in Long Island. He visited the Catskill Mountains for 37 years, moving to Fleischmanns permanently eight years ago.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Chiaramonte of Fleischmanns; two daughters, Phylis DeLaurentis and Antoinette Rosenburg, both of Long Island; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and a brother and sister-in-law, John and Alice Chiaramonte of Florida.

A funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 1999 at Sacred Heart Church, Margaretville with the Very Rev. Robert H. Purcell officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Calling hours will be today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Contributions can be sent to the charity of your choice in memory of Vito Chiaramonte.

Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Louise Coss Hinz
ONEONTA — Louise Coss Hinz, 87, of Andes died May 15, 1999 at Fox Hospital in Oneonta.

Louise was born Dec. 31, 1911 in the town of Andes, the daughter of William and Minnie (Estus) Ingram.

She was married twice; her first husband was Andrew Coss and her second was Charles Hinz. Both predeceased her.

A lifelong area resident, Louise had worked at one time at the Gerry Estate Game Farm in Lake Delaware.

She is survived by three sons, Harold Coss of Lees Summit, Mo., Andrew Coss of Plattsburgh and Douglas Coss of Tucson, Ariz.; four brothers, Donald Ingram of Andes, Glenn Ingram of Margaretville, Floyd Ingram of Roxbury and Shnuck Ingram of Arizona; three sisters, Helen Sager of Binghamton, Rowena Spickerman of Margaretville and Patricia Meticani of Florida; a step-daughter, Muriel Golon of Albany. Also surviving are four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 19, at St. James Episcopal Church in Lake Delaware at 11 a.m. with the Rev. R.L. Donahue officiating. Burial will be in Lake Delaware Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Tuesday at the Jester-Stanley Funeral Home in Andes with the family in attendance from 6-8 p.m.

Carl P. Lanni
BLOOMVILLE — Carl P. Lanni, 68, of Bloomville, passed away May 15, 1999 at O'Connor Hospital, Delhi.

He was born Feb. 11, 1931 in Port Chester, the son of Peter and Fiorenza Lanni.

He married Nancy Rowinski Lanni in Yonkers, New York City on Sept. 24, 1977.

Mr. Lanni owned and operated his own television and appliance repair businesses in Port Chester and Yonkers and retired as a service manager for Electrolux in Peekskill. He was a member of the Church of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus in South Kortright.

His wife in Bloomville and a sister, Catherine Labate of Port Chester as well as several nieces and nephews, survive him.

The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, May 19, 1999 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus in South Kortright with the Rev. Father John Burns officiating.

Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford. There will be no calling hours.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Hobart Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Edith E. Murphy
ONEONTA — Edith E. Murphy, 89, of Oneonta, died Saturday evening, May 15, 1999 at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.

Edith was born May 5, 1910 in Walton, the daughter of Hiram and Ida (Beardslee) Jenkins.

Edith married Michael T. Murphy in September of 1932 in Walton. They were married for 24 years until his death on May 31, 1956.

Edith retired in 1974 from Hartwick College after 18 years of employment.

She is survived by her sister, Ruby Murphy of Oneonta; a nephew, John H. and Dorothy Murphy of Oneonta; four great-nieces and nephews, Colleen, Melissa, Kathleen and Michael Murphy and two great-nephews, Patrick and Ryan Murphy.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 1999 at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta with the Rev. Mel Farmer, pastor of the River Street Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will follow at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.
