Rev. Joseph Szarek
TROY — The Rev. Joseph Szarek, 85, formerly of St. Mary's Woodlawn Village, died Saturday at Our Lady of Mercy Health Center, Guilderland.

Born in Zotniki, Poland, he was ordained a priest in Krakow, Poland, in 1939.

Fr. Szarek served St. Adalbert's in Schenectady, St. Joseph's in Herkimer, St. John the Baptist in Schenectady, St. Paul the Apostle in Troy, St. Mary's in Troy, Blessed Sacrament in Albany, St. Stanislaus in Amsterdam, St. Casimir's in Albany, St. Michael's in Troy, St. Patrick's in Watervliet, St. Mary's in Oneonta and was in residence at the Church of St. Mary's in Clinton Heights.

Fr. Joe will be remembered for his devotion to the church, Our Blessed Mother of Czestochowa and the beautification of the church by planting many flowers for which he had won several landscaping awards.

Fr. Szarek was predeceased by two brothers who were also ordained priests, Fr. John and Fr. Peter Szarek who were both killed when Hitler took over Poland during World War II.

The reception of the body into the church of St. Mary's, Clinton Heights, will take place Tuesday at 4 p.m. Fr. Joe will lie in state and friends may call until 8 p.m.

The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by Bishop Howard J. Hubbard on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary's, Clinton Heights.

Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Mausoleum, Troy.

Vito Chiaramonte
FLEISCHMANNS — Vito (Bill) Chiaramonte, 69, of Fleischmanns, died May 15, 1999, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

He was born Jan. 6, 1930, in Brooklyn, the son of Charles and Mary (Coppa) Chiaramonte.

He married Mary Tine on Sept. 1, 1959, in Long Island.

He was a construction worker for Union No. 66 located in Long Island. He visited the Catskill Mountains for 37 years, moving to Fleischmanns permanently eight years ago.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Chiaramonte of Fleischmanns; a son, Tony Ernest of Long Island; two daughters, Phyllis DeLaurentis and Antoinette Rosenburg, both of Long Island; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a brother and sister-in-law, John and Alice Chiaramonte of Florida.

Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 1999, at Sacred Heart Church, Margaretville with the Very Rev. Robert H. Purcell, officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Calling hours will be Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Contributions can be sent to the charity of your choice in memory of Vito Chiaramonte.

Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Louise Coss Hinz
ONEONTA — Louise Coss Hinz, 87, of Andes, died May 15, 1999, at Fox Hospital in Oneonta.

Louise was born Dec. 31, 1911, in the town of Andes, the daughter of Andrew William and Minnie (Estus) Ingram.

She was married twice; her first husband was Andrew Coss and her second was Charles Hinz. Both predeceased her.

A lifelong area resident, Louise had worked at one time at the Gerry Estate Game Farm in Lake Delaware.

She is survived by three sons, Harold Coss of Lees Summit, Mo., Andrew Coss of Plattsburgh and Douglas Coss of Tucson, Ariz.; four brothers, Donald Ingram of Andes, Glenn Ingram of Margaretville, Floyd Ingram of Margaretville and Verlyn (Snook) Ingram of Arizona; three sisters, Helen Sager of Binghamton, Rowena Spickerman of Margaretville and Patricia Mariotti of Florida; and a step-daughter, Muriel Golon of Albany. Also surviving are four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 19, at St. James Episcopal Church in Lake Delaware at 11 a.m. with the Rev. R.L. Donahue officiating. Burial will be in Lake Delaware Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Tuesday at the Jester-Stanley Funeral Home in Andes with the family in attendance from 6-8 p.m.

Beverly E. Dresser
ONEONTA — Beverly E. Dresser, 62, of Oneonta, died May 16, 1999, at Fox Hospital Nursing Unit after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Oneonta on Sept. 9, 1936, the daughter of Byron and Esther (Bennett) Thomas.

She was married to Robert E. Dresser in Oneonta on July 27, 1955.

For a number of years after graduating from Oneonta High School, she was a legal secretary and former Oneonta City Court clerk.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Oneonta.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, James, and his fiancee, Karla, Dresser of Rochester and Steven W., and his wife, Patricia, of Oneonta; one granddaughter, Jessica L. Dresser; one brother and his wife, James and Linda Thomas, of Summit; and several nieces and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 21, 1999, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. William D. Boutin, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Thursday when the family will be in attendance.

Contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 3532 James St., Suite 104, Syracuse, N.Y. 13206.

Sigurd G. Reinertsen
NEW PORT RITCHEY, Fla. — Sigurd G. Reinertsen, 83, of New Port Ritchey, Fla., died Thursday, May 6, 1999, at Community Hospital of New Port Ritchey.

He was born July 11, 1915, in Brooklyn, the son of Andrew and Sophie (Larsen) Reinertsen.

He was a Bovina Center resident until moving to Corinth where he was a supervisor at International Paper Co. until his retirement when he moved to Florida. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the Medical Battalion in the Pacific. He was a member of Veteran's of Foreign Wars, American Legion, the Moose Lodge and the Eagle Aerie, all in Florida.

He is survived by a stepdaughter, Janice Anglin of California; four sisters, Thelma Andresen of Afton, Gladys Lay of Bovina Center, Ethel Swantak of South Kortright and Edna Kelly of Delhi; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Reinertsen of Bovina Center and Eleanor Hopkins of New London; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Three wives, Elaine, Airdene and Grace; and four brothers, Leif, Carl (Art), Robert (Mike) and Walter, predeceased him.

The funeral and burial services were held in Florida.

Edna Lynes
HOLLY HILL, Fla. — Edna Wright Lynes, 86, died April 27, 1999, at Bishop's Glen Nursing Home.

Mrs. Lynes was born in Westford. She moved to Daytona Beach, Fla., in 1975 and to Holly Hill, Fla., in 1998.

She had been a patient at Bishop's Glen Nursing Home since March.

Mrs. Lynes attended Grace Episcopal Church in Port Orange.

She was predeceased by her son, Norman.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Edwin; one daughter, Sydney Lynes of Wampsville; a daughter-in-law; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

John R. Adams
COOPERSTOWN — Committal services and burial for John R. Adams, 85, of Cooperstown, who died Jan. 4, 1999, will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 1999, in the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Hale, pastor of the Cooperstown United Methodist Church, officiating.

Full military honors will be accorded by the Sgt. Walter P. Eggleston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7128 of Cooperstown.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Gaius L. Vroman
CHARLOTTEVILLE — Gaius L. "Pop" Vroman, 77, of Charlotteville, went to be with the Lord, Monday, May 17, 1999, at his residence after a lengthy illness.

He was born March 20, 1922, in Emmineuce, town of Summit, the son of Edwin Cornelius and Mable Catherine (Proper) Vroman.

He graduated from Richmondville High School in 1939.

He married Ethel Elizabeth, the daughter of Silas O. and Mabel Elizabeth (Decker) Lawton on Feb. 17, 1945, at the  Jefferson United Methodist Church.

Gaius was a dairy farmer all his married life, six years in New Jersey and Otego, 18 years in  Jefferson and 30 years in Charlotteville, town of Summit, with his son, Harold, grandson, Jeffrey, and granddaughter, Jennifer.

Gaius was a longtime member of the Eastern Milk Producers. He was a former fireman and fire commissioner for Charlotteville Fire Department, former town justice and former councilman for the town of Summit, serving currently on the town of Summit Republican Committee.

He was a member of the Summit Senior Citizen Club, the Summit Grange No. 1536, 7th degree and past Schoharie Pomona master and past New York state deputy for Schoharie and Montgomery counties.

He attended  Jefferson United Methodist Church and Schenevus First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel; a daughter, Sheryl Nichols of  South Carolina; a daughter, Susan Ferris of Schenevus; a son, Harold of Charlotteville; daughters, Sandra Gergich of Worcester Gail Patterson of Dayton, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchldren; two sisters, Doris Cadieux of Florida and Grace Youmans of Kirkville; a brother, Paul of Bloomville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a sister, Wilma Van Valen of Summit.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 21, 1999, at the First Baptist Church, Monitor Street, Schenevus, with the Rev. William Robgert Thompson, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow at the  Jefferson Evergreen Cemetery,  Jefferson.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, May 20, 1999, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus. There will be a Grange service at 8 p.m.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Gaius to the Schenevus First Baptist Church or the Charlotteville Fire Department.

Funeral arrangements are by Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus.

Joseph P. Franzese
CHERRY VALLEY — Mr. Joseph Paul Franzese, 75, passed away Monday, May 17, 1999, at Bassett Healthcare from complications of diabetes.

He was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Cold Springs Harbor, the son of John and Theresa (Morabita) Franzese.

On Oct. 15, 1977, he married Linda Cramer in Cherry Valley.

Mr. Franzese resided in the area for 35 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943-44. He was a graduate of Syracuse University's two-year engineering program.

He formerly owned the Tryon Inn, Cherry Valley, the Bell Hotel in Schenevus, Contract Sales Agency in Cherry Valley and was the 7th District county representative for Otsego County.

Mr. Franzese was past president of the Cherry Valley Chamber of Commerce, member and president of the former Cherry Valley Rotary Club, member of the Cherry Valley Historical Association and a member of the Roseboom Historical Association. As a nine-year member of the Foundation Board, Pathfinder Village, he was instrumental in initiating the annual Seniors Pro Am golf tournament, which has benefited Pathfinder Village for the past 17 years. He was also a member of the Leatherstocking Golf Course and a former member and lobbyist for the N.Y.S. Restaurant/Liquor Dealers Association.

Mr. Franzese is survived by his wife of 22 years, Linda Cramer Franzese of Cherry Valley; a son, Joseph P. Franzese Jr., and his wife, Manetta, of Chagrim Falls, Ohio; a daughter, Patricia Franzese of Provincetown, Mass.; a grandson, Joseph A. Franzese, and granddaughter, Sara Anne Franzese, both Chagrim Falls, Ohio; sisters, Marie Franzese and Eleanor Franzese, both of Huntington; a brother, John Franzese of Huntington Station; a sister-in-law, Mary Franzese of Poughkeepsie; nieces and nephews: Suzanne Wohr and husband, Wayne, of Poughkeepsie; Marybeth Fasciano and husband, David, of Highland; Patricia Marchsiello and husband, Michael, of Huntington; Terry and husband, Alex Kirillin, of Palatine, Ill.; John and Marybeth Franzese of Millerton; and Paul and Estelle Franzese of Long Island; and several grand-nephews and grand-nieces and his beloved springer spaniel, Brittany.

He was predeceased by brothers, Francis and Natal Franzese, and a stepson, Todd Adam Gilchrist.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 21, 1999, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Cooperstown, with Father John Roos officiating.

Burial will follow in the Cherry Valley Cemetery, Cherry Valley.

Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, May 20, at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with a prayer vigil at 8:30 p.m. with Father Santino Titta officiating.

Contributions in Mr. Franzese's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the Joseph P. Franzese Endowment Fund of Pathfinder Village, Edmeston, and the Todd A. Gilchrist Scholarship Fund, c/o Pamela Clark, 502 Springfield Hill.

Robert H. Neish Sr.
SIDNEY CENTER — Robert H. Neish Sr., 77, of Sidney Center, passed away Sunday, May 16, at The Hospital, Sidney.

He was born Aug. 21, 1921, to the late Harvey James and Ethel (Mayo) Neish in Montgomery.

Robert married Elizabeth Peake on Jan. 23, 1942, in Franklin.

He served his country in the United States Navy from 1942-1945. Robert was aboard the USS Corry, which was sunk on D-Day. Robert was employed by ECD of Bendix, Sidney, until his retirment in 1984.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose No. 277, Sidney, the Charles L. Jacobi American Legion Post No. 183 in Sidney, the VFWRH Arrandale Post No. 7914 in Sidney, the Sidney Center Rod and Gun Club and the Sidney Center Historic Society.

Robert is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Neish of Sidney Center; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert H. and Veda Neish Jr. of Phoenix and Eric and Pat Neish of Chittenango; one daughter and son-in-law, Junal and Arnold Jump of Mount Upton; one sister, Natalie Radeker of Bend, Ore.; one stepsister, Delhia Case of Newburgh; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Robert is predeceased by a son, Danny Bruce Neish, on July 25, 1994.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 20, at 10 a.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Donna Joy Schmid, of the United Methodist Church of Sidney Center, officiating.

Friends may call Wednesday, May 19. The family will be in attendance from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Sidney Center, at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sidney Center Emergency Squad or the American Heart Association, Delaware County Branch, P.O. Box 315, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., 21 Main St., Sidney.
