Neil J. Sedlar
MILFORD — Neil J. Sedlar, 73, of Milford, died Tuesday morning, May 18, 1999, at home.

He was born on Aug. 9, 1925, in Passaic, N.J.

He married Eva Kopetz on April 30, 1955, in Clifton, N.J.

Neil was raised and educated in Passaic, N.J. Following high school, he joined the military and served for 12 years in the United States Navy, during World War II and the Korean Conflict. Upon returning to New Jersey, he was employed as a baker and a stationary engineer. In 1972, Neil and his family moved to Milford. He then worked at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, retiring in 1989 from the position of chief stationary engineer.

He was a member of the Hartwick Seminary Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Milford American Legion Post No. 1566. Neil was also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.

Neil is survived by his wife of 44 years, Eva; one daughter and son-in-law, Eva and Michael Pierce of Liverpool; one son, Michael Sedlar of Milford; one granddaughter, Abigail Pierce; and two nieces.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Marie Tomaselli and Helen Kabajian.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 21, 1999, at the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown with the Rev. Paul R. Messner, pastor of the Hartwick Seminary Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating.

A committal service and burial will follow in the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, May 20, 1999, when Neil's family will be in attendance.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Jean L. Hyde
HAMILTON — Jean L. Hyde, 68, of 2 Mitchell St., Oneonta, formerly of Hamilton, passed away Monday, May 17, 1999, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

She was born Jan. 15, 1931, in Utica, the daughter of the late Peter and Irma Parkhurst Wheeler.

She was a 1949 graduate of Hamilton High School and received her R.N. degree from St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Utica in 1952.

Jean had lived in Hamilton most of her life and had been a nurse at the Harding Nursing Home in Waterville until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Hamilton and was a member of the St. Elizabeth's Hospital Alumni Association.

Surviving are six children, Kathryn Hyde of Hamilton, Kristen Tupper and Kellie Place, both of Oneonta, Kevin Hyde of Honeoye Falls, Keith Hyde of Fairport and Kennedy Hyde of Holland Patent; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her lifelong friend with whom she went to nursing school, Mrs. Jack (Marilyn) Sardina of Utica.

She was predeceased by a brother, Peter J. Wheeler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 20, at St. Mary's Church, Wylie Street, Hamilton, with the Rev. William Cahill as celebrant.

Burial will be made in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hamilton.

There will be no calling hours.

Contributions may be made in her memory to St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing, 2209 Genesee St., Utica, N.Y. 13501.

Robert E. Bohringer
MIDDLEBURGH — Robert E. Bohringer, 81, of Route 30, Watsonville, died Monday, May 17, 1999, from injuries received in an automobile accident in the village of Schoharie.

Mr. Bohringer was born Aug. 28, 1917, in the town of Fulton, Schoharie County, a son of Fred and Elsie Moeller Bohringer.

He served with the U.S. Army in World War II in the Pacific Theater.

He was a member of the Fultonham United Methodist Church. Mr. Bohringer operated a dairy farm and apple orchard until the late 1960's and then a strawberry farm and apple orchard. He was a former school bus driver for Middleburgh Cental School, former justice of the peace for the town of Fulton and a member of the Middleburgh Rod and Gun Club, Schoharie Valley Lodge No. 491, F&AM, Memorial post No. 2161, VFW.

Surviving Mr. Bohringer are two sons, Philip C. Bohringer and Harry Bohringer, both of Fulton; two sisters, Elva Buschynski of Middleburgh and Jean Bruce of Owego; and four grandchildren.

Friends may call Thursday, May 20, 1999, from 6-9 p.m. at the Palmer and Shaylor Funeral Home, 63 River St. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 21, 1999, at the United Methodist Church, Main Street, with the Rev. William S. Rowe IV officiating.

Cremation will follow at Vale Crematory, Schenectady.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Schoharie Valley Association, P.O. box 827, Schoharie, N.Y. 12157.

Marjorie Bohringer
MIDDLEBURGH — Mrs. Marjorie S. Bohringer, 78, of Route 30, Watsonville, died Monday, May 17, 1999, from injuries received in an automobile accident in the village of Schoharie.

Mr. Bohringer was born Aug. 11, 1920, in the town of Schoharie, a daughter of Harry and Hazel Wright Saddlemire.

Mrs. Bohringer was married Nov. 30, 1946, to Robert E. Bohringer, who was also killed in the accident.

She was a member of the Fultonham United Methodist Church and the Ladies Aid Society of the church. For several years she was a secretary at the G.E. Corp. in Schenectady and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Bohringer operated the Bohringer Fruit Farm along with her husband.

Surviving Mrs. Bohringer are two sons, Philip C. Bohringer and Harry Bohringer, both of Fulton; a brother, Keith Saddlemire of Schoharie; and four grandchildren.

Friends may call Thursday, May 20, 1999, from 6-9 p.m. at the Palmer and Shaylor Funeral Home, 63 River St. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 21, 1999, at the United Methodist Church, Main Street, with the Rev. William S. Rowe IV officiating.

Carl J. Peplinski
DEBARY, Fla. — Carl Joseph Peplinski, 89, of Volusia Drive, Debary, Fla., died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at Mariner Health of Orange City.

He was born in Richfield Springs and moved to Florida from Sloansville in 1979.

He retired after 22 years of service from as a compressor operator for Tenneco Inc.

He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and the Elks Club.

He was known as a jack of all trades and he mastered many.

He is survived by a son, Carl Jr. of Deltona, Fla., and a sister, Clara Rauscher of Richfield Springs, as well as six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Iva M. Saxton
COOPERSTOWN — Committal services and burial for Iva M. Saxton, 93, of Cooperstown, who died March 29, 1999, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 1999, in the Westville Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Hale, pastor of the Cooperstown United Methodist Church, and Rev. William Highfield, former pastor of the Cooperstown United Methodist Church, co-officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Marion F. Sloan
SPRINGFIELD CENTER — Committal services and burial for Marion F. Sloan, 96, of Springfield Center, who died March 13, 1999, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, 1999, in the Springfield Cemetery with the Rev. Santino J. Titta, pastor of the Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church in Sprigfield Center, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Lois B. Vrooman
CASTILE — Lois B. Vrooman, 90, formerly of Edmeston, died March 6, 1999, at the Wyoming County Community Hospital in Warsaw.

There will be a graveside memorial service held Saturday, May 22, 1999, at 2 p.m. at the Union Cemetery in Edmeston.

Memorials may be made to the Second Baptist Church of Edmeston.

Arrangements are by the Harmon-Watson Funeral Home, 35 N. Main St., Castile.

Helen Mae Robinson
DAVENPORT — Helen Mae Victoria (Phillips) Robinson, (Molly), 67, died Tuesday, May 18, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

Helen was born Aug. 22, 1931, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta. She was the daughter of Arthur Sr. and Helen (Prout) Phillips.

Helen grew up on Liberty Street in Oneonta. She was confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oneonta. She was in the confirmation class of 1942 at St. Mary's Catholic School. Helen started school at Charlotte Valley Central School in 1943 and was there until her marriage. In January of 1985, Helen received her GED.

Helen married Harold Emmett Robinson Sr. (Robbie) on June 28, 1947, in Worcester. She moved into her family home on Main Street, Davenport, in 1943. She lived there for the past 53 years. Helen and Harold lived their family life and raised their children there on Main Street, Davenport.

Helen was the mother of the band "Jr. and the Nite Raiders" in which were her three sons and a daughter-in-law.

Helen is survived by six children, Harold Jr. and wife, Betty, of Hartwick, Eugene Robinson of Worcester, Lyle and wife, Dorothy, of Davenport, Patricia Craft of Hobart, Victoria Zimmerman and her husband, Charles III, of Davenport and Sarah McLean and her husband, William, of Stamford; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Homer Robinson of Worcester; three sisters-in-law, Frances McMullen of Port Crane, Ruth Knapp of Owego and Esther Walzer of Stanton,  Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband (her best friend), Harold Robinson Sr., on Feb. 16, 1999; a sister, Grace O'Donnell of Oneonta; a brother, Arthur Phillips of Geneva; three infant children; and a son-in-law, Richard Craft.

Helen is famous for her large selection of quilting that she worked on for hours on end. Every pattern was unique and original. Helen loved to read and read her Bible daily. Helen was very fond of her children and grandchildren — she enjoyed their every moment.

Calling hours will be Friday, May 21, 1999, from 7-9 p.m. at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 22, 1999, at 2 p.m. at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester, with the Rev. Frank MacCracken officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in loving memory of Helen to the Davenport First Responders, P.O. 233, Davenport, N.Y. 13750.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester.

Joseph P. Franzese
CHERRY VALLEY — Mr. Joseph Paul Franzese, 75, passed away Monday, May 17, 1999, at Bassett Healthcare from complications of diabetes.

He was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Cold Springs Harbor, the son of John and Theresa (Morabita) Franzese.

On Oct. 15, 1977, he married Linda Cramer in Cherry Valley.

Mr. Franzese resided in the area for 35 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943-44. He was a graduate of Syracuse University's two-year engineering program.

He formerly owned the Tryon Inn, Cherry Valley, the Bell Hotel in Schenevus, Contract Sales Agency in Cherry Valley and was the 7th District county representative for Otsego County.

Mr. Franzese was past president of the Cherry Valley Chamber of Commerce, member and president of the former Cherry Valley Rotary Club, member of the Cherry Valley Historical Association, member of the Roseboom Historical Association, member of the Leatherstocking Golf Course and a former member and lobbyist for the NYS Restaurant/Liquor Dealer's Association.

As a nine-year member of the Foundation Board, Pathfinder Village, he was instrumental in initiating the annual Seniors Pro Am golf tournament, which has benefited Pathfinder Village for the past 17 years.

Mr. Franzese is survived by his wife of 22 years, Linda Cramer Franzese of Cherry Valley; a son, Joseph P. Franzese Jr., and his wife, Marietta, of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; a daughter, Patricia Franzese of Provincetown, Mass.; a grandson, Joseph A. Franzese, and granddaughter, Sara Anne Franzese, both Chagrin Falls, Ohio; sisters, Marie Franzese and Eleanor Franzese, both of Huntington; a brother, John Franzese of Huntington Station; a sister-in-law, Mary Franzese of Poughkeepsie; nieces and nephews: Suzanne Wohr and husband, Wayne, of Poughkeepsie; Marybeth Fasciano and husband, David, of Highland; Patricia Marchsiello and husband, Michael, of Huntington; Terry and husband, Alex Kirillin, of Palatine, Ill.; John and Marybeth Franzese of Millerton; and Paul Franzese and Estelle Franzese Rigney of Long Island; and several grand-nephews and grand-nieces and his beloved springer spaniel, Brittany.

He was predeceased by brothers, Francis and Natal Franzese, and a stepson, Todd Adam Gilchrist.

Joe lived his life to the fullest and along the way touched many people, each in a special way. His honesty and integrity as well as love for his fellow man will be profoundly missed.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 21, 1999, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Cooperstown, with Father John Roos officiating.

Burial will follow in the Cherry Valley Cemetery, Cherry Valley.

Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, May 20, at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with a prayer vigil at 8:30 p.m. with Father Santino Titta officiating.

Contributions in Mr. Franzese's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the Joseph P. Franzese Endowment Fund of Pathfinder Village, Edmeston, and the Todd A. Gilchrist Scholarship Fund, c/o Pamela Clarke, 502 Springfield Hill Rd., Cooperstown, or the Dialysis Unit, Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Bernice V. Wilcox
BROOKFIELD — Bernice V. Wilcox, 68, of Brookfield, died May 18, 1999, at Cooperstown.

She was born Feb. 25, 1931, in Dixon City, Pa., the daughter of Benjamin and Lottie (Jagodzinski) Yankowski.

She married Junior F. Wilcox on Sept. 5, 1949, who survives.

Her childhood was spent in the Dixon City and Throop, Pa., areas.

She attended St. Mary's School in Dixon City, Pa.

She is survived by her children and grandchildren, Jim and Lynette Wilcox and their children Matt, Brad and Chad of Brookfield, Dean and Susan Wilcox and their children, Amanda, Scott, Rob and Erick of Brookfield, Donna and Jack Vunk and their children, Jeremy and April, Kari, Joe and Kris of Edmeston and Bill and Marge Wilcox and their children, Ryan, Cory and Derek, and stepchildren, Katie, Megan and Will Ziers of Brookfield; brothers and sisters, Pearl Chesnaky of Las Vegas, Nev., Sister Manulita of Wilkes Barre, Pa., Shirley Gidivills of Throop, Pa., Benjamin Yankowski of New Berlin, Jeannie Commadaric of Olyphant, Pa., Mary Ann Rudalavage of Eynon, Pa., and Walter Yankowski Jr. of Eynon, Pa.

She was predeceased by one brother, Frank Yankowski.

She was a member of the Columbus Quarter Church, town of Columbus.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 21, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Columbus Quarter Church, town of Columbus, with the Rev. James Dickerson, the Rev. Ernest Clemons and the Rev. Mark Thall officiating.

Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.

Viewing will be Thursday, May 20, 1999, from 7-9 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Memorial donations may be made to the Louis Busch Hager Cancer Treatment Center, M.I. Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.
